I'm looking to root my phone later. Is it safe to apply the OTA update that they will push us to do on the 23rd?
Do not accept OTAs.
Always. No exceptions.
Live by this rule and you will have the best chance at getting root and no chance of losing. Period.

I would always wait to see if the dev's post that its safe to. I updated my EVo when it first came out and never could get root after that. Now that i have the EVO3d and root. I never updated untill i got the update from a dev.
So i would say no.
+ 10000! The hboot 1.50 that comes with the OTA closes the exploit that was used to gain root.
Why not root now and just flash the stock ROM with the updates included? On this last update, Devs had it ready to flash for root users (minus the hboot) before I even got notification of the update on my phone.

+1 good advice.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk
The OTA didn't even work on my rooted phone
Sent from my DDD-EVO
As someone else mentioned root now and then flash a rooted version of the OTA. OR if you update now without root you can always root via HTC method later. Either way you root itll void your warranty.
Don NOT ACCEPT any OTA UNLESS you have S-Off.
with S-Off you can still save yourself if you flash an OTA, i would S-off and Root your device now then apply the ODEX 2.3.4 that's already been posted in the forum.
Their is no guarantee that 2.3.4 will be rooted soon

rooting with the HTC method doesn't give you S-Off right now

Hello.
I want to unroot and go back to stock EXCEPT I want to be using the newest RUU (2.11.605.0).
Can't I just flash this via Bootloader and I'm good to go?

Why not wait a little longer, as many feel it wont be long until the official Gingerbread that will be slated for OTA leaks?

So what "stock" should I go back to now? Cause I do want to go back to stock now since Official OTA is imminent, among other reasons
if you want to go factory stock so you can receive the ota you will need to unroot and switch from s-0n to s-off use this method and just update as normal http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009423
I'm just curious if I will be able to do this when the time comes? Thank you

Rule of thumb is to never perform an ota update once rooted until the developers take a look at the update and either give the ok or release an updated stock or custom rom with the update. You could run the risk of loosing root if you install an ota update.
If I root the HTC One on the stock rom well I still get the OTA updates from T-Mobile?

I swear this type of question must be asked in every thread. Try SuperSu and do some research for upgrading and keeping root. Rooting has been around for a while and there are ways around this. Honestly though why do people root if they want to get factory updates. You do realize that a factory updated rooted version would be out before or shortly after an official release is out....
OTA update and a rooted phone is not a big deal... Jus sayin
To answer your question directly...if you have stock recovery then yes. If you have custom recovery then no.
search next time but...
stock rom with root yes you will get updates.
If you have a custom recovery it may not flash.
I flash the tmobile ota ( the .28 one) with clockworks and all was fine.
Appears a new OTA update is going out today, locks down a previous root exploit and few other things.
(Make sure you S-OFF your device first before taking this unless you risk being locked down for good!)

If anyone on a rooted device can capture this OTA file from /cache directory after you download it would be much appreciated.

I'm running Santod's stock ROM, I think it blocks the OTA from even downloading, right? Any way I can get it? I'd love a new stock ROM to try out.

My stock full odex rom will accept OTA's.
You just need the stock recovery installed for it to work.
But it's not rolling out yet where I am at least.
Once it does, I will post the firmware and a full rooted stock rom.
Anyone who is not already s-off and plans to gain s-off, should avoid the update until after they have gained s-off and unlocked.
I'm checking regularly, so will have it up just as soon as I get it and package it up.
I will post the OTApkg.zip as well...

Thanks man. You're awesome and a total treasure to the DNA community. :highfive:
With TWRP will the OTA download still, or will it not even do that?

So it stops you from getting root?
HTC DNA
LG Optimus G
Oh good, I was just looking yesterday, trying to figure out which was the newest version of stock because CM11 apparently doesn't support HDMI out.
Although, if anyone has a favorite sense-based ROM and can confirm HDMI out works on it, I might be persuaded to try that instead.
Anybody get the update through HTC Sync Manager yet? I don't have Verizon so I can't get the OTA.

Sync Manager doesn't show any updates for the DNA at all actually.
Haven't seen any sign of the OTA yet either.

My cousins phone got bricked from the update.
So nobody got this OTA yet?
Anybody know if you can even get OTA without an active Verizon sim card?

They never push them on weekends either.
No, you can't get the OTA without Vzw service.
