[Q] The screen doesn't turn on - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have found a tricky bug and I can't find any solution for it. I have installed the last version of UltraToxic ROM 8.0 XWKK5 and now sometimes my phone doesn't turn on screen after automatic screen turn off. The phone is continuing to work, for example it accept incoming calls, but it doesn't react on any try to activate the screen - no reactions on "power button" and any taps on the screen or others hardware buttons. The screen will turn on only after reboot by long press on power button.
Before phone was just "rooted".

Do you have set cpu installed with a very low figure for your screen off power? I had this problem in an old rom I was running

No, I have not setCPU installed. But I just installed CPU tuner and adjust the "screen off power" to min 500MHz, max 800MHz.
I hope this will solve my problem.
Thank you.

[Q] Screen on/off lag

I'm using CM7 with Imoseyon's leanKernel in battsaver mode. When I press the power button, the screen lags to turn on/off. Sometimes when I press the button to turn the screen on, it lags so much that it times out before I unlock it and turns off again.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Check your min clock speed in your settings. If it is at 245, your phone may be a bit slow to come back to "life" (on any custom rom). I use Bamf and noticed the same thing. Set my min to 345 and don't have the issue anymore.
You said you are using battery saver mode. That mode by nature is going to undervolt and conserve as much power as possible. It's kinda like when your computer comes up outta sleep. Doesn't take as long as a complete reboot, but does take longer than if the screen just shut off.
Your mileage may vary.
Ahh thanks a lot. Seems that did the trick.

[Q] SGS2 screen stays on after notification while charging

Hi guys!
I noticed over quite a time, that while I leave my phone charging over the night, any random notofication will cause the screen to stay on until I wake up and manually turn it off.
On my galaxy s2 I have VillainRom 2.1.0 (Android 2.3.4) with ninpho's 2.0.4 kernel.
However I did notice the problem before with VR 1.4 and CF-Root kernel (didn't use anything else yet), so I figure it might not be related to this.
This is rather annoying, as I don't want any burn in effects on my screen, but there's a much worse part about it:
It's noch 100% limited to the time of being charged. If I remove the charger at 100%, play around a little with the phone and then go to sleep, some random notification (whatsapp/sms etc.) will still cause the phone to wake up and not go back to sleep mode.
What happens is, I wake up with a phone at 50% battery (at it's best!), or I don't even wake up because my phone is dead and therefore my alarm clock stays quiet..
I read about some people having this problem with their SGS1 and it might help to go to Settings -> Applications -> Development -> uncheck Stay awake.
SGS2 does not have this "stay awake" option (or I'm seriously stupid)..
Anyone an idea what I might want to try?
Best greetings, Alex
At that screen I have "Standby" and you need to have it unchecked. Also, what's your screen-off delay? You don't have any apps like screebl keeping you screen on, I assume?

I have tested with a stock rom of which I made no input and had the same issue.
Hope we can solve our problems. Cheers

mine just started doing it. i have been running custom rom for awhile now.
apps recently installed:
words free
launcher pro 806
extended controls
impossible level game
I have uninstalled:
words free
impossible level game
my issue is still happening.
when unplugged screen turns off.
I can get a text, it will light up then turn back off.
when plugged in (charging)
display will not turn off unless i press the lock button.
if i get a text the screen turns back on and stays on unless i press the lock button again.
I have recently re-flashed, complete wipe of phone and factory reset wipe.
I still have the screen on when charging and no option to disable.
I need an option to disable the "stay awake"
As my fault occurs with the phone completely reset on a stock rom it must be hardware so I am going to return it and see what happens from there.
I have flashed CM7 and there is an option to turn stay awake off.
This option is removed in DarkyRom.
Finally figured out how to turn it on or off!!!!
install the app extended controls and add stake awake as a toggle.
Turn it off!!!
then remove app
FINALLY!

Touch screen doesn't respond for a few seconds after resuming from sleep

When I resume the device from sleep, the touch screen doesn't respond for about 5 seconds, and then it works normally. If the lock screen is enabled, I can't unlock and it goes to sleep again in 5 seconds. I have to press power again and only then it works normally
This is especially annoying when I get an incoming call - I have to wait a few seconds before I can slide to answer.
The behavior isn't always consistent, but it happens mose of the time. I think it started when I upgraded to KI4, not sure.
Does anyone else have the same problem? Or an idea what might be causing it?
Stock ROM, KI4 2.3.4, Rooted.
Which kernel are you using.
And which governor?
Kernel: CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_KI4-42-v4.2-CWM4
Governor: I had to Google this to understand, I never set up or changed any CPU settings, so I guess it's SetCPU on default settings - SetCpu says "scaling ondemand 1200 max 200 min".

Display Options

Hi everyone,
I recently installed Remix on my laptop, and I'm loving it so far. I do have several issues though, mostly regarding my display.
In display settings, when I set the "Sleep" option to "Never", the screen goes very dim after about 15 seconds of inactivity. It doesn't brighten again when you tap the screen or type on the keyboard. The only way to brighten it again is to use the brightness keys to turn the brightness down, then turn it up again.
Also, when my computer goes to sleep, when I wake it up again, the screen is off and it is totally unresponsive, even though the power light is on. The only way to get it to respond is to force it to shut down, and then power it on again.
Any advice on how to fix either of these two problems would be greatly appreciated! :good:
Thank you!
Kpenguin

You may try pressing the power button briefly a second time. This works for me to bring back the display responsiveness.
Best, maris

This doesn't seem to work for me.
Same issue here with the auto dim feature even when disabled.
This dim issue was solved by setting sleep after duration to 30 minutes.

Unlocking the phone is a hassle sometimes...

Hello, Everyone.
It's my first time posting here. I just received my phone yesterday with 64gb/3gb MTK variant. I have been testing it out and noticed that unlocking the phone is a bit buggy or is there a setting i can change? Here is the problem: When i unlock the phone via power button it turns on and after a split second the screen turns off. And if i try to unlock it again via power button it won't turn on. If i try to unlock it via fingerprint it turns on and everything is fine again. Is this a bug or a feature i can turn off?
Thank you.

Hi,
I don't believe that to be the default behavior when pressing the power button.
What is the version of your ROM?

This happens after you leave the phone for a bit right? Not after you manually turn off the screen. I think what is happening is the moment you try to unlock it, the screen is not actually locked but the brightness is just way too low. This phone when left untouched has a two stage brightness dim
1. The brightness when you immediately stop using it
2. A lower brightness which comes 15 seconds after you stop using it and then it actually locks
The latest global developer ROM does not have this problem as they increased the second stage dim brightness so that users are not fooled into thinking that the screen has been locked
