So, I have installed the Home.apk that is being used in the Xperia Arc.
It works perfectly, but.... I decompiled it using the APKtool, changed the Dock background (the one that is in the bottom of the screen) into a grayscale version of it. I didn't change absolutely anything else.
I compiled it, signed it, did the whole procedure, moving it to its folder with the correct permissions.... But, when I restart the phone i get an error about the Sony Ericsson Setup Wizard, and the SEMC ID something. I get a completely black screen.
I even tried to build it in to my rom, I still cant get it to run. Just a black screen with the taskbar.
If i change the Home.apk to the one with the original blue tint on the dock, it works perfectly. Any ideas?
Apparently i was taking the long way... You can just move files and edit them (if they are pictures) and then paste them inside the apk without even having to decompile it.
I just moved the edited dock background to its correct folder and it worked... Whatever...

okay, first of all, my phone died at work, and when i got it home to the charger and got it on, everything was reset in a way. (this happened shortly after i enabled app2sd.) all of my widget show up as cannot load widget, and my shortcuts were all mixed up. should i not have enabled app2sd? or did it wrong? and second, i am tweaking/mixing the Blackmod 1.8 theme for elenix 1.8 and i extracted the drawable files out of system/framework/res and edited what i needed, but how do i get them all back into one apk file? lol..
((and also the problem with resetting my screens and the unable to load widget happened after transferring files to my phone, and it re-asks me whether to use ADW or LP when i hit home))
and i have also installed Pandora 3 times now and it won't show a widget to use. and one more thing last, is there a way to edit widgets? like with BattStatt, is there a way to tweak it to take off the box behind it, and maybe change the font used in it? same with the D-Clock Widget..? Thank You.
yes it works you must have rooted your phone
i copied Gallery3D.apk from my x10i to my x10 mini pro on sdcard, with root eplorer copied into system/app ( sure you mount rw) and set permissions to 644 (user read-write,group read, others read)
and with adw launcher i put a shortcut on my screen
long press on screen, other short command, Select Activity, Activities, scroll to galerie and choose it, now you have a short cut for 3d gallery
download gallery3D.apk from here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826849
better download GalleryFixedCamera.apk frome here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829571 thanks sanjay_bandaru
now you can launch the app fom app drawer on your homelauncher and you can launch camera directly
and look for a nice black theme, http://www.mobil-talk.de/android/6857-theme-mini-goes-black.html worked too, thanks to Bueffel
sry for bad english
I've been "reading" (I don't speak German) the black theme thread, but I don't know what files I have to download for my x10 mini (not pro) with android 2.1 (nordic firm).
Can anyone help me?
basically the last 2 added (which you could have imagined by name 2.0.xxxxx^^)
i think in order to change the most things framework does the job
to get fully black theme you'll need to change the apps as well.
change it as descrebed here in the forum section as any other theme as well
greets Mo
Great find on that black theme. Personally its better than the blue theme but just to black here and there for my liking. I find pulpoff and draco_ag's theme for the 1.6 (hopefully to be ported to 2.1) more pleaseing to the eye a tad greyer here and there. But i appreciate the work done

Anyway to get this working with the default launcher?
@ abhi98228 hmm for me all worked, no problem with market.
@iphonepimp what working with default launcher? 3d Gallery? Check the GalleryFixedCamera.apk on my first post, it worked.
I like the gallery... but there is one bug with the detailsbutton... it's to big (the button on top if you choose a image).
I copy a smaler picture from the apk over the big detailbutton to fix this, but can't resign the apk correctly. I attached my apk (you have to remove the old app, then install the new apk) and the smaler image. perhaps someone can correctly resing the apk with the image.
Thanks for the new apk. works well.
This is nice thanks a lot!

Why dont you optimize the image?i think it will work
I've copied the framework.res.apk and SystemUI.apk using Root Explorer from my phone to my pc and swapped some of the icons for eye candy effect.
When I've copied the modified .apk's back to the phone and overwritten the existing ones, after rebooting I'm sure my home screen seems slightly laggy.
It may be my imagination, so am wondering if replacing icons within the above apk's can cause lag or am I going slightly mad
Using any launcher, when I have an App that has a "More" on the main menu, when I hit it I get another menu with grey text on a white background. It's almost unreadable. This happens with all Apps that have a "more" i.e. second menu. The main menu is fine.
Anyone else notice this or is it a problem unique to my system?
I have encountered this as well. Happened with go launcher settings.

I have the same problem. If you press down on the menu options you can see what it says then move away if you dont want to select it. I noticed it first on google maps.
Anyone have a fix or work-around for this issue? It's driving me nuts.
Can i see a screenshot?
It happens on a lot of different apps. Mostly when you press the more menu.
Picture of the menu when it opens and the other one is what it looks like when you press on a menu option.

The other problem I have is that the black status bar at the bottom sometimes covers up menu items.
same
my friend
same problem with me
I have a suspicion what the culprit of this may be, but I don't know enough to dare test the theory.
The menus affected by this looked to me to be .png images due to the gradients and drop shadows. I used root explorer to extract my framework-res.apk file from the system/app. I examined it on my PC by changing .apk to .zip and extracting the contents.
In res/drawable-mdpi there are what appear to me to be the UI .png files. It's fairly easy to ID most of the files the Nook interface is using.
The file I suspect causing white menus is: "menu_background.9.png"
Right next to it is a file called "list_selector_background_pressed.9.png" which looks to me like the same gradient file when you press the white menus.
I opened menu_background file in Photoshop and grayed out the white BG (saved it keeping the BG transparent) but I'm way too chicken to attempt to recreate the apk file and try and try to replace it in the system/app folder. Maybe a developer that really *knows* what they are doing could look into this? (Otherwise I would NOT mess with any of these files.)
Similar problem - in both Titanium Backup (when you pull up the filter menu) and when setting file permissions in Root Explorer, there's black text on a black background next to all the check boxes and radio buttons.

This sounds like a very real possibility. Hopefully someone who knows what they are doing will be able to help you out. I would absolutely love a fix for this issue. This is one of my few remaining frustrations with this device.

Same problem here with any number of different apps. I'm using Zeam.
I have a workaround of sorts. Press and hold in the white area to show the text on that line. If you want to choose that option, release. If it's not what you want, then slide your finger up or down and release.
Ain't elegant, but at least I can see the text and decide. Since most "more" menus only contain 3 or 4 items, it's not too difficult.
Hopefully someone will find a real patch for this issue soon.
I thought this was an issue with go launcher; good thing I read this thread and realized it was nook related. There is a app in the android market that makes go launcher menus have a dark background and that's a workaround for now.

I'll try to find it; a sec. I didn't install it and just saw it when browsing for themes last week sometime. I didn't realize at the time that the menus would bug me....
Here we go, actually an xda release: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1202800 I probably misremembered it as an android market app

I checked the same files on my DroidX, and the same files match the corresponding menus. (It has grey menu bgs and blue selection color, and sure enough, the same .png files match.) Also the popup dial that shows up in Titanium/Root Explorer and others is easily identified as well. (popup_full_dark.9.png and popup_top_dark.9.png)
I was right about not messing with system/framework/framework-res.apk (I wrongly listed it as system/app in my last post). Googling around, it can't be changed in place without creating a boot loop. I did find this script though:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/easy-method-to-change-framework-res-apk/
However- modifying and re-zipping the framework-res.apk file has to be done correctly as well (IE: using 7z in 'store' mode) or it still will cause boot loops. Some insight in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1225565
In other words: even though I *think* I know something, I'm still not going to try it. Also, I suspect it may be easier just to invert the text colors with modified settings rather than change the theme images.
For anyone with experience modding Android creating/changing themes, all of this should be child's play. For mere mortals, I'm not going near it. I can live with a few blanked out menus for now since the press/hold workaround works.

Both this and the previous thread with the GoLauncherEx with the dark background only fix the problem within the menu accessed from the desktop of golauncherex
It does not address any of the other white on white problems, unfortunately
Glad to find this thread, the white menus is the only problem I'm really having (apart from crashes on certain settings sections) causing any real issues now.
Once somebody can fix this te nook tablet will be great, as it standards it's now a real problem
Same problem with ADW Launcher EX "More" menu and the subsequent ADW Settings screen.
Rooting has made this B&N NT the sweetest tablet. A fix for this "white on white" or "black on black" would be most awesome. Wish I knew how.
Hey there everyone, I am wanting to edit my framework to get a better looking notification bar. I have an android phone called SH7218U, I am rooted with all Gapps.
If you look this up phone on Google, you will see that the notification bar and icons are very similar to stock Android 2.2 ( I am running 2.2.1). The only difference is that the signal bar is located to the left of the bar as well as some icons getting set there as well. You can really see this here: http://www.itechnews.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Sharp-SH7218U-Clamshell-Android-Phone.jpg
When going into root explorer and checking out system/framework I am see the familiar framework-res.apk file, but I also see an apk file called dianxinos-res.apk. It seesm to be able to mess with framework and change the UI and other things, both of these files need to be edited. This is just a guess though since I have been able to find a post on a Chinese forum that gives a new notification bar (the only difference being the battery icon replaced with a numerical battery representation and the (when bar is pulled down) shortcut to the useless built-in task killer is gone. Inside of the package to this new framework I get both framework and dianxinos files so it seems I would have to replace both of the old files with the new ones.
As you can see in the above image there are virtual android buttons on the bottom of the screen as well, for when you want to use the phone normally. I do not think that the dianxinos-res.apk is linked to the virtual buttons as exploring system/media/pics contain.bmp images of the virtual buttons and I have confirmation by another SH7218U user that editing these images will directly effect how they are displayed.
I was just wondering anyone know how to edit the framework when there are two files corresponding to this. I don't know much about editing the framework but even so I am quick to learn but figured I would just ask around before I do anything. Worst comes to worst, like a bootloop for instance, I have a system.img for my phone so flashing that with fastboot will get my phone working again.
Anyway, Ive uploaded both files in case anyone would like to look at them. I am trying to go for a gingerbread-esque notification bar with blue instead of green possibly.
If anyone thinks this thread would get better hits elsewhere I would appreciate any input.
