Custom kernel, or flashing vlara's prerooted system image from the UCKK6 leak thread.
It's just like the days before zergRush - get used to custom kernels and rooted system images being the only way to root.

Have you tried this? vlara's download does not contain a tar. It is named system.img, and I tared it and tried to flash it, and the flash fails immediately, just like the UCKK6 system dump I made myself, so I would guess that his dump has not been prepared to flash.
If I have time this morning I'll make Odin flashable 2.3.6 with root

To test some of the problem reports I needed to run it. Of course, this is bad for some because I've established that the bluetooth HID problems are not the kernel - or if it is, the stock KK6 kernel is just as broken so there's no easy way to figure out how to fix.
Uploading it is going to be a *****, as it always is. I'm not doing it until the family is asleep.

All it does is install a custom kernel - that particular one (zedo's) will probably break wifi.
If it does - flash the 12/21 version of my kernel and wifi will work.

Flashing now but I will lose root.
I'm gonna go ahead and throw this out there... I probably won't be basing a ROM on this. In my experience, basing ROMs on leaks just leads to frustration. Frustration for developers when a new leak drops a couple days later and makes their work obsolete and frustration for users who run in to various little bugs that haven't been ironed out by Samsung yet.

Exactly ! Isn't that one major reason/benefit for rooting ? That is, so the user can remove "bloat" ?
Know what will happen ? You'll create a debloated version and some will complain that you removed "that program" or "this program" !!
Noob question - Debloated ICS
This might be a dumb question and if so, please forgive me. I learned to root and flash ROMs in December, I'm currently running Liquid ICS v1.5 MR3.But I don't know a thing about kernels and I'm wary of flashing radios. So my question is - is Santod (or any developer for that matter) working on a ROM for the official ICS that you can just flash (without messing with radios and kernels and other steps)? Is that what he/they mean when they say they are working on a "build". I'm "ok" flashing ROMs and I'd like to have the "official" ICS, but if it requires that level of technicality, I'll unroot and download the OTA.
Any info you could provide would be helpful.

if you got as far as rooting and flashing a rom, then you can flash a radio. don't be afraid of it. it's no more difficult than flashing a rom, and much easier than actually rooting.

There are multiple mirrors on the host server.
Did you try any of them?
Nobody else has been having any issues.
Not one report actually.
Try from a different browser and mirror.
Downloading via mobile rarely works and is not recommended.
I tried downloading it from my phone yesterday...no dice. I was able to download it on my computer and transfer it to the phone though.

Tried all different kinds of things. Couldn't do it on the laptop usign wi-fi. So then I used the actual phone and I was able to do it in about 15 minutes using 4G. Thanks!
One other question. If I flash your NuSense Unsense ROM (but don't change the radios) will I have the basic functionality of the "official" ICS? I love the lack of data drops but I HATE the "sense". Could I use an "old" ROM and a "new" radio for this stability?

Either place the md5 for the rom zip on the sd card, or remove the md5 sum check that the recovery is doing.
There should be a setting to disable the md5 sum check in Recovery.
MD5 sum is a digital signature that verifies that the file is complete or not.
Just disable the check for it and you can install without it.

I am pretty sure they patched this exploit with the 4.0.4 udate. I don't think you will have any luck with ExynosAbuse. You will have to use more traditional methods. Start with the stickies in the q&a section of this forum.

I used Framaroot. Just download the .apk file, install it, run the app, and choose the "Aragorn" exploit. It will run, then tell you that you need to restart. Very easy.

Now that you mention it, I was at 4.04, not 4.1.2. According to my notes XynosAbuse was successful for me. Regardless, it still means my experience doesn't help the OP, since it was the wrong version anyway.

I read through more of the XynosAbuse thread and confirmed. Yes it works on 4.04, the patch was in 4.1.2. So, to the OP: XynosAbuse will not work for you. Sorry to mis-lead. Glad I could at least clarify what _won't_ work...

I have spent the last 3 hours trying to educate myself on all this stuff. I have an AT&T I777 running the 4.1.2 that AT&T released recently. It runs fine but I've read so much of the advantages of rooting and custom roms that I figured I'd give it a try. This couldn't have been easier! I understand that the way to understand if the root was successful, I should have the "Superuser" app which I do! The whole process took maybe 5 minutes! Thank you for posting this!
Well yes super user will be installed but that's just an app used to allow apps superuser access. That isn't what roots the phone or anything. You could have root access without having that app installed, it just would be far less secure because you need some way to regulate what apps can do what.

Hi there,
today i installed the newest JellyBAM Mod. After restarting from Recovery to normalboot, the bootlogo stucked. ( http://www.android-hilfe.de/attachm...tlogo-kernel-logo-aendern-galaxy-s2-stock.jpg )
I waited ~10 minutes but nothing happened. I tried wiping cache, dalvik cache and factory reset but nothing works. That means i can go into recovery mode and also into download mode.
What can I do? I dont nesserly need to have it rooted right away, i guess i need to flash something with odin?
A stuck firmware would be cool, i allready found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1650919
But I'm not sure which one exactly i need to use. Im from Germany and I have a GT-I9100 unbranded..
I looked at SAMmobile but im not sure if i need the Germany - MBC or the Germany - DBT ?? What is the difference?
Please help me, i guess i accedently deleted some backups i made earlier (3-4 months ago?), because I dont have them anymore on my SD Card.

Right.
And because I'm not sure what the "compatible kernel" or the stock kernel is, my plan was to use 4.1.2 leaked version that worked beginning of the year (or even further behind) for me fine. This has a kernel etc. on board, that should work again right??
Have you wiped data? Flashing a ROM without wiping data will make your phone end up like that. If you don't want to lose any data then back it up with Titanium Backup. I frequently play with ROMs and thats what I do.
Personal experience.

For me the leaked version worked fairly well and since i know it worked these days ago, im pretty sure I want to use this one.
If not, I don't know the difference between Germany - MBC and Germany - DBT + I don't know if the kernel works etc.

MBC and DBT are just different firmware versions. As long as they are for your phone, carrier and country, they should work. All of them have same stock kernel.Since yours is an unbranded from germeny, either of MBC or DBT should work fine.
By compatible kernel,i meant for rooting purposes.

Cheers:good:
Hi folks. I have a USCellular Tab 10.1 LTE (which identifies itself as a p4vzw and should work fine with VZW ROMs)
Per the instructions in this XDA message posting I have installed CM10.1 + GAPPS
The message says I need to flash this kernel here. How do I do that? The webpage linked shows the source code, but I'm lost with what to do!
I have -no- LTE/CDMA radio and have a message which shows "unknown baseband" - again, supposedly the
I originally flashed from the FB01 firmware which is supposedly what I am supposed to use - thus, the Verizon baseband SHOULD allow me to connect.
Any thoughts?
I need to:
Get help to flash that kernel
get help getting the radio working
(My original baseband information was as follows: CDMA i905.03 V.FB04 //////// LTE: SCH-i905.FB01
Not sure about the radio, but you don't have to flash that kernel. It is already packed into the ROM.

Gotchya, Thanks!
I don't know why that was mentioned in the step outlined above.
However, the radio part is the most confusing to me at the moment :-/

As I recall, you first have to be on ICS and it's radios before flashing CM. I would recommend first flashing ICS for VZW then install CM 10.1

I seem to be having trouble finding a Stock VZW flashable ROM. There is an update.zip which should run in the stock recovery, but I think I will need Odin or a CWM flashable ICS build.
Any thoughts?

Any fix to this yet? I will never use my tab on a network, just want a better running rom and cant seem to find anything that works. Tried pershoots kernel but it just gets stuck at the samsung screen for more than 45 mins until i just hard reset and nand back to stock. I got this tsb for free, its just very laggy. Thanks for your time guys
Edit: basically i just want to verify that CM can and is working on this specific us cellular device.

CM should work (cellular data) and the rom i use on mine, i am currently using it as wifi only, i use cm10.1 it runs really smooth and it allows a stable overclock which makes it run much faster, there are a ton of tweaks you can set another tip is to turn the window animation scale .5 as well as the other two transition and animator. If you need any help flashing shoot me a pm and i can walk you through
