Hi there, I am wondering if my amaze's front -facing camera has a problem.
I found out that the quality of the front-facing camera of my device is really bad. I am not sure if its normal or it's my problem.
I compared to other devices (samsung gs2x which has 2mp front facing camera), my AMAZE is so bad. See attachment. the color of the pic taken by AMAZE is so yellow/orange and dark ,however, the pic taken by gs2x is in while (which is the wall color).
Do you guys have to same problem too???? the pic taken by front-facing camera is too yellow/orange and dark???
HELP~~~

I am not an expert on this subject, but to me, it looks like the photo you took with Amaze is showing the truer color than the one taken with gs2x.
What is the type of your light source? Did you adjust your white balance according to the source? My walls are white, but it looks yellow under room light. So I would think your Amaze is capturing the true color.
On the other hand, if the photo I take is white(ish), I would assume that it is because the camera is not getting enough light and trying to overexpose, washing away the true color and coming out looking like a black&white photo. Your photo from gs2x looks like that.
In any case, the front-facing camera is optimized for taking close-up snapshot of people facing it. The target must be lighted with external light source because there is no flash light for the front facing camera, and you should adjust the white balance if you need good results. You should compare photos taken in this condition to see which camera is better.
Other thoughts:
You can download and try different camera apps from Market.
You can wipe the data in 'settings/applications/manage applications/all/camera/clear data'.
Go to a T-Mo store and compare with the store demo machine.
etc.
Sorry my comment became so long. I was just gonna say 'try white-balance', but thought it better to explain why I think this way.

hello guys, i need to know for sure if my camera is defect or not since i need to exchange it by monday.
the pics are attached.
i have taken the pics with and without night mode. the ones taken with night mode are much brighter and have much more severe flare.
is that normal?
Its all good.

Totally normal.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Nightmode increases the iso hence the lighter pictures. You should notice either more noise in the picture or loss in sharpness as the built in noise reduction kicks in. The flare you see is lenses flare from the bright light sources in the picture and us a result of the increase in iso. Its all basic photography stuff, and no your cameras not buffered.
Better quality cameras and lenses can reduce it to some extent but mobile and compact cameras are very limited which us why people pay thousands for dslr's cameras and even more for quality lenses.

how can u say, daytime pics are great, video too. but night and low light is not as good though. u know any other better camera on the market?
Camera lens might be broken
My camera suddenly had problems with focusing and the pictures were terrible/not as good as they used to. Inspecting the camera lens closely did not reveal anything odd.
When I disassembled the back of my phone (removed the battery cover, removed the screws and gently took apart the back of the phone housing) I still could not see anything wrong with my camera lens/cover. The lens/cover is part of the back of the phone housing.
However, then I held the lens/cover up against a really bright light and looked through the lens/cover, I discovered that there are several layers in this lens/cover and that one of them had cracks (looked like a snowflake). It was impossible to see this without disassembling the phone housing and holding the cover up against a bright light looking though it.
Trying to take a picture without the cover everything was perfect. Ordered a new phone housing from ebay the same day...
Your pictures seems to have the same characteristics as mine; not focused and a bit blurry. Try to remove the back of your phone housing and see if that helps. If it does; order a new phone housing.

Wow, that's quite obvious too.
Haven't seen this red dot in any of my pics so think it must be a hardware fault...

A camera that only works properly in daylight is a terrible camera, regardless of how good the daytime photos are. Tbh I'm just a bit mad about the night video focus crap.
btw, with the old rom my lens was moving out hitting the glass making a clicking noise, xxkg1 (XEF)
now updated official poland version
and there is no clicking? is that normal?
Also, with the new version (Poland) that has no cliicking, when i change the scene to text (i guess its macro in english) i do get a small clicking sound again - the lens moving against the glass.
guys a friend of mine just got the motorola razer,
its a really good phone now that i see it more often,
but i was testing our camera with the razor camera,
our have more features witch i think is the only phone and the mytouch slide that have more features on the camera,
well i noticed with both cameras on that the razor have better low light pictures in we were at starbucks this afternoon, and i got both cameras on when i moved these phones sides on the amaze you could see the lights moving fast and on the razor it was smooth, low light was perfect when on the amaze it was kinda yellow
even on the ffc when i moved them the razor looked better than the amaze,
what do you guys think? is it something we could fix on ours maybe a tweak
or its the way the camera was built?
I hate the yellow tone to indoor pictures! You can tell when you go into settings and uncheck widescreen, the image will turn normal for a split second and then go back to yellowish. A tweak would be awesome.
Other than that this camera is fantastic.

The camera itself on the amaze is better. You just have to do some software tweaking like play around in manual mode with lighting saturation contrast iso etc. And turn auto enhance off.
Also if you're seeing yellow change the white balance in manual mode.
I just went from the MyTouch 4g Slide to the Amaze. Cameras are comparable, and both very good. I think the clarity on the Amaze is a bit better- I took a pic of a book with a post it on it to compare, and could read the handwriting on the Amaze version where it was blurry on the 4gSlide. Slide has markings on the lens, but I can't tell that the optics are any better on the older phone. All in all, very good, very fast camera.
#1 complaint about the Amaze camera is the retarded focusing. It gets even worst in low light. So if you're in a hurry, your first pictures will always be blurry. Best thing you can do is turn off Auto focus, and keep it in manual mode.
I also hate the yellow looking indoor pictures also. It's a decent camera but I wouldn't stay the best.

change the white balance settings in manual mode!!! also they yellowish nature of the picture is party because of the yellowish tint of the amaze screen..you can only tell a picture apart if you look at the same picture taken with two camera's on the same screen
Thanks to whoever it was that mentioned about going into settings and white balance. Definitely looks a ton better and takes out the yellowish hue. Now I am happy with the camera. Before that only outside pics look good. Inside was terrible, but this helped out a ton.
Thanks!

This is true Nokia does make very nice camera's on their phones...so does sonyericsson which is now only sony, since sony is also in the business of point and shoot, they can make camera's better than a manufacturer that's only in cellphones.
the camera really take good pictures if you are not in a hurry,
but my concern was when u have it open and move around, its very fast, when i saw the razr it was smooth and the lights were not like lazer looking as with the amaze was,

I think it is safe to say that you had the champion of champs of phone cameras.
The Amaze seems to be among the best cell phone cameras of all time. Definitely top 5 if not top 3, and there have been alot of cell phone models that have come out over the years.
Please keep all question related threads in the Q&A section.

i love this camera. for me no need for a digital cam this works great and is always in my pocket.
Hey.. I've looked so hopefully its cool that I post about the Tmobile galaxy s 3 front facing camera quality issue... when I aim the cam at myself, the quality looks great until I take the actual picture and then its kinda washed out and looks like its been edited with the smooth option.
Anyone aware of this or find it annoying? I wonder why it reverts to a horrible quality after you snap the pic.
Unedited pic just now

Try taking pictures in well lit room or outdoor sunny pics come out crisp the sensor on the camera dosn't do to well in low light you can try to turn up the iso on in settings but it over saturates the pic in my option . Btw Hyper X has a nice mod that dose improve overall image quality and Video quality on the S3 however i have had very little success trying to get it to work on the US variant past 720p mode in video mode i swapped my phone for I9300 and the mod works perfect. check it out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1691145 hope this helps .
try not expect too much from a 1.9 mp camera sensor
This is not only with the front facing cam, but also with the one on the back.
When I take the picture, it looks great, but when I view it... it's washed out and looks more ugly.
Looking for a fix for this.
YZ.
I think I found it out.
When you enter the camera app, you phone sets the brightness level to 100 %, but when you view it, if your brightness is lower than 100 %, the picture looks washed out.
Try setting the brightness to 100 %.
YZ.
I will recommend use to use Camera360 instead of stock camera app. It has significant improvemance. I have tested many and Camera360 DOES make difference!
Nope.. its the camera.. again, when aiming at myself (front facing) the quality looks great on the screen but when its taken, the quality looks less than vga quality... why does that happen?? I may return the phone

I am just an insane camera freak and love to take pictures and it deals with my work I do with photoshop so yea. I did see this camera lens add on that you can purchase to go with M7 when it comes out to turn it into a dsr camera. Could this work for the DNA? FIXED.
That's not a addon lens,as of right now its a teaser picture from htc. Now unless HTC puts a nice size sensor into the m7 it will not be close to a DSLR, even with a lens it will not improve the picture quality.

Sounds like a cool concept, to use different lenses on a smartphone. It won't improve the image quality, as that's mostly the job of the sensor, but it will assist in things like ZOOM (zoom on most smartphone cameras is miserable, because it's digital zoom, not real telephoto zoom) and cool effects like wide angle/fishbowl and tilt-shift etc...
One thing I'd find cool is a 50mm length lens cause the DNA has a... what f/2 or f2.8 lens? idk, either way its brilliant xD
derp (what I meant by that is, I use a 50mm 1.8 on my Sony NEX-5n and I love it, fast shutter speed and DoF is wonderful, and at a 50mm focal length on a phone would be sweet... didn't mean to smash 50mm and the aperture into a comparison -___-)
Well ok maybe not improved image but already there saying major improvement in the camera department. But my Q is would the lens if it comes out work on our DNA if the M7 has the same size lens to fit the phone?

Not sure what you're looking for here. You don't even have a picture of the real thing to compare with. I'm pretty sure the lens is part of the sensor packaging itself and not user replaceable. What most people would call a lens is simply a piece of protective glass attached to the back cover of the phone.
As stated, you won't see any marked improvement in quality since the camera sensor is still only a fraction of the size you get in even a simple point and shoot camera let alone the postage stamp plus sizes you get in a DSLR.
I don't know if I'm reading this right but is the link stating about an accessory for the phone that you can attach to the back it as in the lens or what. I don't know i'm lost.

No, the link is a teaser picture that HTC released. Not an accessory , not anything at this point. Nothing is officaly known about the next HTC flagship device until tomorrow.
it would be nice to have an ultrapixel camera on the dna ;P
Whenever I shoot macro mode, the pictures come out blurry. I can't even get a good picture of a paper documentation I have on my desk. I tried normal mode, and it also produces poor quality. Anyone else having this problem? I know it's not the megapixels because I always use 3MP on my Note1 and get great usable results.
Also, outside here in Portland we are having great sunny days. I took some shots, but the sky's blue color looks like as if it was mosaic-ed or something. I really wish it had better quality. I know there's a firmware update for the international version that has some changes on the camera performance, but because we have a AT&T crap, we are going to be stuck for a long time.
Overall I love my phone even though there are some quirks such as gaps between the speaker grill and body, and screen/speaker grill are not leveled. Piss-poor quality control even with the awesome uni-body.
Did you try the "text" scene option? I havent had any problems with macro focus
