[SOLVED] How do I purchase apps on ICS? [Country not supported] - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

TL;DR : Use Market Access and if Google won't accept your credit card due to the address not being from a "supported billing country", edit the card details in Google Wallet and use a US address. Thanks to Anomaly for sharing his method.
This is for people who live in countries where paid apps are not available on the Android Market. I used to use Market Enabler to access paid apps and purchase them. After stock ICS I can still see paid apps but I am not able to purchase them, always get hit with "The item you were attempting to purchase could not be found". Also, Market Enabler's auto fake on boot does not work. I have tried clearing data and uninstalling the Market app's updates. No go.
Has anyone found a way to continue purchasing paid apps with ICS?

market enabler I guess doesn't work with ICS. I use VPN.
Go to settings, wireless and network.
u should see VPN settings over there.
Add new vpn
select PPTP VPN
VPN name with any thing u want. Vpn server:-freemobilevpn.net and save it
The username and password is gonna be 'free' and 'free'
Go to the browser and type google u should see a page with a I agree link click that and ur set. u can now buy paid apps.
Plz not that the VPN is active for only for 4 hours after which u will have to reset it. And plus this is a free VPN service which I use every day to listen to pandora.
Hit the Thanks Button if I have helped.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, this still won't let me purchase apps, nor does it allow me to see properly find paid apps in the Market. Now, I get hit with "Purchases are not available in your country".

Hey, just tried this more than a few times. Does not work. I removed SIM card and failed to purchase an app in the following scenarios:
1) Emulate T Mobile SIM for paid app visibility using Market Enabler. Fail
2) Did not use Market Enabler. Fail
3) Clear Market Data. Fail
4) Uninstall Market updates. Fail

Thank you for the link. I could not understand the last bit though. Can I ask, how exactly do you purchase an app on the web market if you're in a country that does not allow purchases?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium

Once those steps are completed and you go on to web market your device is recognized as the faked provider. For example, if you fake it with T-Mobile the market web market recognizes the device as a T-Mobile device which means your device is liable for purchase

Yeah, I see my device as a T Mobile. But, when I try to purchase an app I'm asked to enter credit card details from a supported country. And I still can't purchase anything on the web or from the app. Guess something is truly messed up between my account and Google! Thanks for the tip though.

Update
I used the web market to try and purchase an app, I was prompted to enter new credit card details from a "supported billing country". So I used a virtual US credit card and was able to make the purchase.
My problem now is not spoofing the market. Using Market Access or Market Enabler, I am able to gain access to a US market that shows paid apps and the like. The issue is with purchasing them, Google no longer accepts my cards that are from the UAE, it will only accept cards whose billing address is from a supported country. My other cards appear greyed out both on the web market and on my phone. Can anyone confirm this?
The card that is available is a virtual one I attained through www.usunlocked.com Unfortunately, using this card is not very viable due to the high per-transaction fee of 50 cents. That seems to be an additional 50 cents on every app I purchase! Google's really ****ed me for trying to do things the right way.

[Q] Updating apps from sd card

Is there a way of updating apps i have downloaded onto my sd card ? I have a few installed but cant update them because i did'nt get them from the apps market place
Thanks
SD card has nothing to do with it, they're simply not linked with the market entry. Titanium Backup has an option to fix it called "Market Doctor".
Does this work with any downloaded app and on any phone ?
I have a HTC HD2 windows phone but has been altered to run on android
Thanks
Well, any rooted phone... I've got no idea what it'll do if the device isn't. It has worked with any application I've restored so far, meaning applications that were either free or that I bought.
I've got no idea what it'll do if the app is not in your account... which wouldn't be a good idea to begin with.
Tried the titanium backup ,still cant update apps from sd card ?
Did you do long-press on app, Attach to market (forced) in Titanium?
Done that but it's asking me to pay for the update
That has to be a different issue... if it's in your account, the Market replaces all "Buy" buttons with ones saying "Purchased", no matter whether you actually have it installed. Is it listed under "My Apps" this way?
Where did you get the apps from in the first place?
If you got them from another app store ie. Getjar, Amazon etc. you can only update through that store, even though it may be available on the Android Market.
EDIT: Unless, of course, they're free. Then you can just download the app you want updating from the Market, which will then notify you of future updates.
I downloaded it from a file share torrent. The app itself costs money so was looking to try and upgrade for free .There have been quite a few updates from the one i have downloaded so all the functions wont work , i have the basic things working but not all
In that case let me congratulate you on obtaining a free virus. Hopefully Google is as good at reading logs as they are at reading webpages.

You know that what you're doing is illegal, right?
How can you expect updates for a paid app if you don't pay for it. People have to download it legally, crack it, and upload it to fileshare sites for every single update, so the update process isn't going to be fast.
I suggest you stop stealing and pay for the apps you want.
The actual app i downloded is free ,i am new to all this and only found out after downloading it ,dont think downloading free apps from a share site is illegal
Have a look at an app called Atrackdog. There are 2 versions one of which is to update apps on the SD card. The apps don't have to be from the market as far as I am aware.

[Q] Google thinks I bought an app when I didn't, won't let me buy it

tl;dr I installed an apk that you normally have to buy (with the developers permission), and now I want to buy the app, but the market says I purchased it and gives me an error when I try.
Detailed version:
So I was chosen to beta test the boot manager application by the developers. They sent me a download link to an apk that I installed on my phone (nexus one).
The developers stopped updating the app through the link they gave me, and they only update the market apk now. I felt that I should purchase the app, to support the developers and gain the new features. I tried to purchase the app, but in the market it already says "purchased" instead of "buy". When I try to buy it, it gives me an error.
I have since uninstalled the app completely, and still no luck.
I cleared the market cache and data, and even tried using the browser market to install it remotely. It even says purchased on the web.
It's possible titanium backup attached the app to the market through market doctor, but even after i uninstalled it it still had this issue.
I'm not sure if it matters, but the app checks with the market to see what your registered email is, and then checks the developers server to see if that email is licensed before using the app. Since I didn't buy it from the market, they just added my email to the list.
What can I do about this?
Re-install the apk file they gave you, then uninstall it through the market.
Just tried that, after it was uninstalled everything appeared the same, and gave me the same errors.
I just got off the phone with a "market specialist." She said that I tried to purchase the app, but something went wrong and "the phone doesn't know where to get the app from." She handed the issue over to a more specialized department who will try and fix the problem and either get back to me for more information, or fix the problem within 24 hours. I was extremely impressed with how they handled the issue.
To anyone having this problem in the future, go to this page, scroll down, and fill out your info under "talk to a specialist" and let them know what your problem is. They did ask if I was using a custom ROM (which I am) and they said that custom ROM's can sometimes interfere with the market, but I highly doubt this is the case.
And an email they sent me:
Hi Josh,
Thank you for contacting Google. It was a pleasure getting to speak with
you today. As promised, I've forwarded your case to a specialist to begin
working to resolve your issue as soon as possible.
In the meantime, if you come across any other information that you would
like to pass along, please feel free to reply to this email. Your
responses will automatically go to the specialist working on your case.
Thanks again for your patience and understanding. Have a great day.

You could try detaching it from the market using Titanium Backup.
was this ever resolved?
I too have this problem, but I have apps that I purchased, or got free from Amazon.com's App Store, and now that google has this massive .10ยข sale of over 10k (supposedly?) apps I want to rebuy the same apps from google (who updates much faster than Amazon).
I'm going to try to detach, hopefully it works.
If not hopefully we can figure this out as I'm sure this is an issue that afflicts many of you too.
just a follow up, and no the issue is still persistent for me as well
Android Market Support said:
Just to let you know- the issue appears to be isolated to users with
rooted
devices. A few users saw the issue clear up after resetting their devices
to factory settings. In some cases, this required manufacturer support
because a regular reset did not completely restore the device.
However, we're investigating solutions that will not require a reset. In

[Q] Tried to outsmart Google Play

So yea, I live in Egypt and I was trying to access the US market since the Egyptian market is terrible. I tried to remove the SIM, use wifi, and use Tunnelbear VPN with a US server which actually got my Play Store app tricked; it displayed the US market apps. But sadly when I tried to download stuff, it said I can't download those apps in my country. I have the Swedish JellyBean that was leaked a few days ago. So yea, how did they figure out I was still in Egypt? Any tips to bypass the country thing without doing anything illegal or rooting? Also, my gmail account has the US as the country of residence.
How comes u don't want to root? If u did u could install market enabler and access any countries market u wanted.

I will eventually root. My phone had some problems when I bought it (you can check my other thread about it) which "some how" got fixed in Jelly Bean. So I'm just waiting for a month or two to make sure that all those problems are gone...
So yea, either way, I'm just wondering why the trick didn't work. I mean, how else could they figure that I'm not in the US?
There's an app called Market Enabler which let's you do it but needs root, it changes your market region code which I imagine is what's stopping you.

As the poster above mentioned, I think it has to do with your google play app and also your account. I am in China, but from the US. The Chinese market does not exist, so my phone is using the HK firmware to get to the market. Really poor quality, and half the games are taking clothes off of Japanese girls (if I wanted to see naked girls there are better ways).
I tried using my VPN to get through but no luck. I tried creating a new account using my vpn, so it would assume I was in the US. Some luck with that (set up account with vpn and then use it with vpn). I also tried market enabler with mixed results.

[Q] Market unlocker doesn't work anymore

Well yeah guys Google messed up something on their servers... I used market unlocker till now and i woke up today to search for some app on Google Play and I realised that I can't see paid apps or any apps that are unavailable in my country anymore...
Tried clear cache and data of market unlocker, tried Play store clear cache and data... Nothing...

Now exit by pressing back button and launch PlayStore, hit accept and you'll se ALL magazines, music, paid apps etc.

You need to clear Play Store cache. but tere is an easier way, connect to US VPN, then go to play store>settings>content filtering select so that some checkmarks switch off, press ok go to settings again and select show all apps. All US content will show up in play store.
US VPN with very speedy connection is hideipvpn.com. I'm using that.
Thank you so much OP for the TunnelBear option. I've been trying like hell to make magazines and stuff work haha!
But one question, is tunnelbear free? Gonna work forever?

[Q] bypass android market restriction

Hello,
I am trying to download a game that is only released in Canada, how can I download the game and by pass the country restriction that is associated with my account?
Thank you.
Try using a VPN that terminates in Canada like BTGuard. Or ask, the developer to check off USA as a country that can download the app. It is a simple checkbox for them, I have published an app to Play, and I only selected USA, Canada, and the UK, but it can be changed with one checkbox.
Scott
I found some directions here, though for another VPN provider. http://help.unotelly.com/support/articles/60448-how-to-download-out-of-country-apps-from-google-play-store

This is easier: you need an app called Market-Enabler... it used to be in the play store but it was removed some time ago.
http://androidweeds.com/market-enabler/
If you have trouble finding or downloading it google up "MarketEnabler_v3113.apk"
Basically, root/busybox is required, and you clear data on the Play Store app, then run this and select a carrier that is local to the market you need (ie. some Canadian carrier in this instance), open and log into the Play Store, download and install your app, then close the Play Store, run the app again and restore your original settings.
Actually, I don't think VPNing into another country will work, it is based on code in the device itself and is irrelevant to your physical location or IP address allocation location.
Market enabler does not work. Nothing happens when I try to use it. Nothing changes.

I appreciate the help, however I have tried all of those methods. It seems google keeps track of the country where you created the account. I even tried creating an account using a proxy from the country I need and it still changed it to US after I logged into the account from my device. Im not sure why google is so strict with country restrictions, but its unfortunate.
The game is in beta stage right now and I have been in touch with the developer about bugs and such, and they will release the game in my country but in about a months time. I appreciate the help, xda members are the best.
