Can't wait.
This is a repost and 1st quarter isnt that approximate. That's a span of 3 months.
Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't see the other post, and this was just sent out today, so don't think it was in the past either. I just thought it was a worthy post since it's one of the only official release statements by Samsung themselves.

And the Captivate will get official gingerbread in the last quarter of 2011... Yeah right.
It doesn't matter when the official date is, once the decent leaks start hitting and devs work their magic we'll have plenty of ics rooms for the I777

Also, most likely that's the release date for the I9100. (Edit: I said I777 before, meant I9100)
However, that release will include kernel source, so that's about when we get ICS too. Just Hellraise and apply the noise reduction workaround for the audio libraries. (won't have NFC though)
Oh yeah - turns out the I9100 uses the MAX8922 cripplecharger too. Sucks for them, good news for us! It means we don't have to worry about porting that driver over.

I get bad complaints on the other end of a call when i hellraise or when using miui....hopefully someone will build a kernal specifically for our device so we wont have to hellraise....but when it first leaks that will suffice, a lot of people say they dont have problems with audio, but everytime im on the phone people complain of echo

Huh? This doesn't make sense - one of the first things Hellraiser did was flash a correct kernel for our device.
It sounds like you're using an old version of Hellraiser that doesn't swap the audio libraries.

Ok makes me wonder how much love'n our GS2's are going to get as far as updates?
The Skyrocket came out with 2.3.5 and just got 2.3.6, and we are still on 2.3.4. Also the Euro version of the GS2 are always being updated and I think there are 2.3.6 builds out for it.
I'm confident that we wil get ICS next year, but it would be nice to get the latest Gingerbread while we are waiting.
I know a lot of people on here flash custom ROMs, but there are also many people like me who don't flash ROMs and find the stock ROM just fine.
Makes me wonder if it is AT&T again holding up updates or Samsung.

correct me if I'm wrong but just because one phone has two revisions "newer" than another phone doesnt mean its better. It just means it had more bugs to fix.

Sounds right. This is just a bugfix with the updated OS. Samsung knows the Skyrocket doesn't get as much love from the community either, so they have to fill in the gaps.
Not every Android OS updates are better than older version. 2.3.5 broke something (Voice search IIRC) and 2.3.6 is released to fix it.
Besides, the real reason AT&T/Samsung rush 2.3.6 updates for Skyrocket is because there is a wide spread internet connection issue with Skyrockets on non-LTE areas.

I am pretty sure you are exactly correct. I've read that the 2.3.6 was rushed into production on the Skyrocket to address some major bugs in the original release. Apparently there were a bunch of problems with Google Voice integration and the Android voice search feature, both of which work fine on our phones.
Most likely just because that new bug with powervr and privileges escalation they got the update to patch that.
We don't have the same hardware as skyrocket to we aren't affected therefore no patch for us.

Believe it or not, the 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 was updated by Samsung to tie into the whole APPLE vs/ Samsung legal lawsuit overseas... Apple won the suit and Samsung had to CHANGE touchwiz to avoid patent infringement on Apple's intellectual property. It was either SIDE or VERITCAL scrolling that had to get nerfed... Be thankful we didn't get hit with it yet...
Other than the SCROLL change, I don't think there is a MAJOR change from 2.3.4 on GS2 vs. 2.3.5/2.3.6 on Skyrocket...!

Wrong. The skyrockets was only release in north America, lawsuit doesn't affect us osgs2 or skyrocket. The data Issue was fix by at&t a week ago no software needed. There is an update from 2.3.5- 2.3.6 notice nothing new there but the phone feels smoother to me. At&t update priority is more on the skyrocket. Not that ya need it anyways. also as of today the vivid and the skyrocket are the only at&t phones officially getting ICS. You guys might never get an official ICS update.

I agree however you can't blame android enthusiasts for being overly excited about the release of ics. Although gingerbread was a great release, ics is much more of a major release because of it basically merging gingerbread with honeycomb, making it unlike any other android release to date.

Personally, I'm waiting until there's a kernel source drop for the Linux 3.0.9 kernel for I9100 ICS - I'll start porting work then.
ICS ports based on 2.6.35 are interim hackjobs.

Because it's been a year since GB.
Not trying to sound impatient, I was following a couple deb's and saw that they had stalled/stopped development and couldn't find any other threads with active ics development. More curious to see if it's being worked on or waiting for my leaks

Mainly waiting for more leaks - It's luck of the draw whether a device's vendor-proprietary libraries will work with ICS or not.
They apparently got lucky with the I9000/Captivate, not so lucky with the I9100.
You have to keep in mind that it is EXTREMELY rare for there to be an AOSP device bringup to be completed in any reasonably functional form before an official vendor firmware for a given device (or at least a very similar device) becomes available.

It looks to be an attempt to help/take some pressure of teamhacksung CM9 endeavor. Op has got a bunch of stuff fixed(mic, camera still broken). It looks like Codeworkx has even been giving OP some direction too.
I'm sure a lot of you have been following this development too, but when it all gets worked out, what does/can it mean for us I777 owners?
Edit: I know there are a bunch of ICS anticipation threads already(I'm not trying to add to clutter) but I did debate putting this in Q&A
That sounds promising. It's a good thing that they're close to a new kernel. Would love to test it out, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work to hellraise it. I really don't take pics, and I could easily just text people if need be.
You know it works if you flash it like they say to right? No need to hellraise. The soft keys are a little wonky, but its fun to get a good feel of aosp ics.

Well its simply a matter of duration. The captivate has been out for over a year and a half. The dev community there has had all that time to work through the various leaks, numerous builds(whether samsung or att approved). Basically, a lot of the problems that are being run into with the SGS II have been solved months ago for other devices(captivate, vibrant). In short, they've been at it a lot longer. Keep in mind the GS II has been out just shy of 3 months and look what the devs have already done...

I'm speaking of the ATT variant(I777) which came out 10/2. International variant, yes, has been out a while longer, but there are some differences in each. Yes, they share the same chipset but that hasn't stopped the Dev's in the I9100 forums from putting out solid roms. Otherwise, why would we need Hellraiser if they are that "similar".
You disagree that its just a matter of time? If so, you don't think that in another 3 months we'll have made major progress related to Roms(whether ICS or not), kernels, etc?
Edit: Just came across this new thread started by codeworkx this am:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410400
Looks promising
[ROM_LEAK] AT&T Skyrocket ICS leaked (Same chipset as Note?) [DEVS ONLY] get it here
Not sure where to post this, but as it's ROM related with sources I'm hoping here is the best place.
ICS for Skyrocket ROM leaked, which has to be extremely close to the same code base for the Note's LTE QComm Snapdragon S3 chipset.
Is this something our ROM devs can use for a solid ICS foundation for our Note? If not please forgive my mistake, just trying to help out...

Just as well, AT&T released a list of phones that would receive the ICS update. The Note was on it as well as the Skyrocket. All of this bodes well, and further suggest what i was the first to say. We'll get ICS shortly after its released for the international note, the Angry Birds Space app would be a new app....not an update to an existing app like some suggested (this made absolutely no sense to me) and that the premium suite would be a host of s-pen apps and updates (i stated all of this before the video was even close to being released. Im on a roll!!

T-mobile galaxy s2 boots with the skyrocket kernel...anybody willing to softbrick to try it out?
I have on my my t989 and my galaxy note. I'm using the galaxy note as my daily driver, but the t989 has the leaked skyrocket rom on it, so there are some things missing. I don't want to rely on it if I bork my note and don't have time to fix it. My Gnex is at home too...otherwise I'd just do it and see how it goes!

Currently as a phone or gadget, the Note has been impeccable with Saurom. I can wait for ICS. In the end a great phone is a great phone.

Not running Saurom myself right now, but from a GB perspective, I could not agree more. What makes the device great is the device itself. To me, ICS is an A while GB is a B+ at absolute worst, so like you, I will gladly wait.

Maybe we'll get lucky and get a ics kernel source leak for the note soon, so DA_G can work his magic, not like I'm in a rush, I'm enjoying gingerbread but I do miss ICS.

This. GingerBread is hella stable now. Having a few HoneyComb devices laying around makes ICS seem sorta lack luster.

I used holo and da_g when I tried and it boots I didn't try with skyrocket kernel mainly due to the likelygood of no spen support. Although you never know. I have work all day otherwise I'd try again

If nothing else this is all but official confirmation that there will be an official CM9 for the AT&T Note (albeit this was always likely) but it might also (but probably doesn't) hint that Cyanogen himself might help maintain it. (I bought my G2 for the specific reason that it was his daily driver at the time)
Edit: Looks like I was treed by 1 minute on this one
Yeah he has confirmed about cm9 for our note !!!!! He said no public realise is out yet but hold tight ....that's what he said on Google....I can't wait lol

This was announced months ago on the cyanogenmod blog.
Order of operations (in true geek form, the pun was intended):
1) Exynos based systems would come first.
2) Next would be MSM86xx based systems...hence the skyrocket and our Note.
Old news is no news.
Thanks for the update, it's much appreciated to see that we're nearing a release. I'll be refreshing get.cm twice as hard now.

Thanks for the news. I won't use them, but it is always great to see a device accepted by these guys.
I'm guessing Kondik cannot release until his company officially pushes source code for the kernel.

Regardless of the reason, I'll bet the first taker $20, it won't appear on cm nightly network for download, until Samsung has the i717 ICS kernel for download.
I'd be happy to be wrong.

My vibrant had nightlies without source. I could be wrong but the sky rocket is getting nightlies and they have no source yet either right?
Edit- from googling real quick seems they getting unofficial cm9 ported. -.-

So excited, I love CM9 on my i777
Looking forward to this, as every ICS rom out right now is nothing short of awful for lack of a good kernel.

Awful how? I have tried two ICS roms and they bludgeoned GingerBread to death.
Performance is absolutely awful. I have been ready to return this thing a few times but I am trying to hold out until the kernel source is released to see if we can get any bump in performance. Scrolling is awful, period, on every rom I have tried. I am really hoping this isnt a snapdragon S3 issue, as were ****ed if so. Then the constant redraws, lag, app hangs, etc just make me want to switch back to WP7.
Have you tried the Unofficial rom? It is fast and clean and super stable.
It sounds to me like you have a bad Note. I had one and exchanged it. It took forever for screen transitions and the SPen was super laggy which made me originally wonder what Samsung was thinking. Until I went in for a different issue (the backlight bleed on the white notes) to swap it out with a black one.
Even the Hybrid is very fluid with all of its customizations.
yeah I ran TPC, unofficial ICS, and now dagr8s hybrid at 213 dpi. Tablet mode is awesome, but useless with all the lag. I have 3 home screens and maybe 7 widgets, and its painful to use at times. My Sensation 4g SMOKES this thing.

This is just one bad experiance.......the ics roms out right now are GOOD and smooth and fast. scrolling on my note is very smooth. you may have a bad note, or are just setting it up wrong. everyone has little tweaks they do that they think help the smoothness. so in the end what im trying to say it IS NOT THE ROMS......
