I've looked around and haven't found anyone seeming to have this issue and I'm sure it is user error, but here goes -
I'm having trouble with getting any image viewer (gallery, quickpic, thumbnails in root explorer) letting me see (and subsequently correctly choose) icons that are transparent with black lines. It seems that they are all set against black backgrounds which just make for an entirely black thumbnail.
I've tried using the "light background" option (whatever it is called in quickpic) and this seems to cause the background around the thumbnails to become white, but my thumbnails still show up entirely black. This is with any icon set that is dark markings exclusively, set on transparent background.
Am I missing something or doing something wrong?
I have a light background on a homescreen I'm working on but other than trial and error or counting squares on a "light" version of the theme and hoping the ordering is the same on the "dark" version, I have no way of setting these icons.
Thanks!
You missed something really big there...

In QuickPic app there is an option to use Grid Pattern as background for PNG images with transparency.
I actually do have that checked and I still get nothing.
That grid pattern only shows up when you zoom in on an image. Try contacting the quickpic dev about this issue.
I use Total Commander file explorer and it handles thumbnail images correctly. If you change the background color the transparent background of the thumbnails also change. It's not on the market and the most current version is release candidate 4.

Bored of your framework icons. make your own colored icons as per your wish. Simple to use . Just select the color and you are done.
Attached you'll find a pretty basic program in a folder with all the stock sony status bar images. If you run the program you can click on the square to choose your colour and then click on 'Select Folder'. The default is the folder that the exe is in.
As soon as you select the folder, all the icons in that folder will be processed and saved with the same name in an 'out' subfolder (like the ones in the attachment).

The images will be set to the selected color and the background is made transparent. This is hard-coded for the x10 mini/mini pro stock status bar icons, it may work for other icons from the stock apk's, or it might not It just works on a hard-coded value for the blue channel.
Now you can have what ever color icons you want in the status bar
NOTE: .Net Framework 2.0 required (pre-installed on win vista and 7)

Thanks!!! This is what i have been after for a little while.. .. Also whilst I am here does anyone know a way to change the icons in 'Settings'?? The icons are pretty boring, I would like to change them to some like the desire ones.. Please let me know if this is possible???
are you talking abt the default settings icon??
This works perfectly. One small suggestion, would it be possible to add the option of specifying a background color instead of transparent?
If you look at this screenshot, where it says "USB connected" & "USB debugging connected" the icons to the left are white which makes them invisible.
Edit:
Ended up manually editing one image by adding a black layer behind it in photoshop then creating a batch action to do the rest.
Whoaw!
Nice tool , I am definitely use this many many times
I saw a couple of screenshots with text used instead of the icons and/or folders. If its an app what is it? I have the minimalistic text.

Post up the screen shot you are referring to, I'm not sure what you are looking at.
If you are reffering to icons that say "phone" instead of a picture of a phone it's just a simple png file. ADW and LauncherPro(i think) allow for icon changes. Widget Locker also allows custom icons. The files are all over the net, look in the Android section of xda, they have a huge Icon thread.
Danny has a theme that uses text for the main screen instead if Icons, looks pretty nice, after unzipping the file you can use what you need if you don't want the entire thing.

I think this is what you're looking for: http://www.mediafire.com/?bi6xcug62hktann. I didn't make these, just found them using a google search.
As was mentioned, you need a launcher that allows you to change the icon image. For example, long press on a dock icon in launcher pro and select "change icon," then you can select any icon you've put on your sd card.
Hope that helps.
You can try the texticons app in the market. Seems to work with most roms and launchers.
If you still need some, I have about 160.
Edit, here they are. From XDA, can't recall who to credit.

I would really like a custom Dock on my phone - something simple that looks like Sense or the MotoBlur stock.
Basically I want 3 icons like Atrix stock has - Phone, Apps, Email with larger rectangle icons. The stock ADW 3 icon dock is just to small.
Any suggestions? Tutorials on custom docks?
Don't know if this helps but I've been playing with making custom docks on my Atrix.
Dock size for backgrounds is 480 x 80 pixels. You can create whatever background you are capable of at that size.
Dock icons are around 70 x 70 pixels (at least on Go Launcher).
If you can't get the icons the size you want then you can add the icon images to the dock background, set the icon images on the dock to blank .png images, and set the shortcuts to whatever (basically have an image of a button in the background with two blank icons launching the same destination on the dock, thus creating a long rectangular button). I haven't tested or anything so there might be some dead space between the two but its a workaround.
Edit** Here is a custom dock that I was using recently. Simple transparent black dock png with the android bot added to the center. I used a blank .png for the App Drawer icon so I can just click the middle to launch. The other icons are Go Launcher default.

I have noticed a slight annoyance on the SGS2. Some of my apps seems to be using a black colour when I pull down the notification bar, which makes them very hard to see and/or read unless under appropriate lighting.
But is there a fix available that will FORCE all colours to at least not just be black so they are easier to see?

As you can see both Beautiful Widgets and Lookout Mobile security uses a colour that is hard to read on the SGS2 running stock roms, but is there a way to fix this in a generic form, or is it a "bug" with the apps themselves?
The apps are expecting the default white background of Gingerbread. The only way to fix it is to change the image to white and the stock text color to black.
My Rom is stock. Thus leading me to expect those two apps are out of date for GB. And I don't really want a white background on my notification pulldown.
Beautiful Widgets lets you change the color of the text in the notification, if I'm not mistaken. Look somewhere in the settings.

Click to collapse
That's what Gingerbread is supposed to look like. Samsung changed the colors around resulting in this problem.

How in the world can I get my background/bar to stay behind my widget buttons?
I have tried everything I can think of but whenever the screen rotates the background covers the buttons so I have to remove the background and readd it...PIA
This is why I am hoping someone will build an app to do this for us
Here is what I mean:
How it should look, all icons bright white and clickable

Here is how they look after I rotate the screen, grey (because they are behind the bar now) and unclickable (it just opens the MinimalisticText settings screen to adjust the background widget).
Are the combined horizontal-and-vertical text widgets not possible to make with MinimalisticText? I've never had this issue because my black "shadows" are one in the same as the text that's written on them.
If you're putting ADW Launcher actions to other pages underneath the icons, and are using two separate widgets to create the text and background shadow, does that mean you're overlapping 3 icons on top of each other?
Yea and for some reason the page navigation icons never get messed up...they are made in "Simple Text"
Maybe I should try the 3 stack on everything
I tried making the bottom bar all one with text and shadow, but if you don't make them all separate widgets then its impossible to line up the text with the grid (for clickability).
Alright, I think I understand well enough. Unfortunately I will be useless when it comes to helping people who use the SimpleText method, as I have my hubs set up using only ADW and Minimalistic Text.
same thing happens to me. Seems to be a orientation bug. Keep turning the unit. Until it becomes bright white again.
