[Q] How to turn off button backlight in MIUI? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to turn it off?
MIUI don't have this option like CM7 or Samsung based.
Thanks

I also use Miui & the softkey leds being constantly on was also driving me mad. The workaround I found goes like this:-
Go into settings/display & make sure auto brightness is checked. Then go into advanced mode/edit other levels. Underneath the first two settings for "buttons" you'll have the values 255. Change these both to 0, then hit save settings at the top of that screen.
Once you've done that, if you're someone who uses auto brightness this should kill the soft leds for good. If you're like me & have your brightness on the lowest possible setting most of the time to save battery, you need to uncheck auto brightness. Then reboot your phone.
Once you reboot, the softkey leds should be gone, and will only return if you turn auto brightness on. If you do that & they reappear, go thru the steps again to get rid of them.
Let me know if this works for you.

f*@!kin auto brightness

can someone please tell me how to disable auto brightness on
x10i eternity rom build 003
i tried using every brightness app/widget possible to turn it off but as soon as i turn it off and put the phone under different light setting i can see that the auto brightness is still on
i tried using adjbrightness but it keeps telling me that my phone isnt rooted; anyone get this app to work on x10??
please help n sorry if this questions been asked and answered before. this forum is getting too big and broad sometimes to find anything
thx in advance
Have you tried Sparepart? (That's the name)
Strange, i can't seem to turn on my autobrightness. It used to work perfectly in android 1.6. And i haven't noticed it untill recently. When auto brightness is checked, it just stays the same, even when i hold it directly under a lamp. Maby there is a bug in the software that prevents switching it on or off?
I'd also like an answer to this problem, because with auto brightness on the telephone is a battery eater.. you have to keep it to the minimum level to disable it, but when you are under a strong light, like outdoor with a sunny weather, it's difficult to see your screen's details. as you select a brightness level different from zero, the autobrightness turns on and eats the battery.
I hope I'm missing the solution to this, and somebody will help, because all the applications i've tried (spareparts included) didn't worked.
I'm quite confuse now.....
What actually do we need......
Turn it on...
or
Turn it off...
LOL
heh, so some people want a way to turn it off and others, like me, want to find a way to turn it on?
what a crazy phone..
I'm sure there used to be a tick box in the display settings to turn on/off the auto brightness. Anyway, i've tried various applications myself to get it on but nothing does it. I think the best solution is for us all to swap phones .
Spare Parts doesn't work for me, i tried enabling it, restarting the phone and jumping under my duvet.. but it didn't change
Did you update to 2.1? It was disabled in 2.1 as far as I know.
So the easiest solution, upgrade to 2.1! Else, I don't remember the menu but it's somewhere in the settings under 1.6.
I think we've all updated to 2.1 here =)
and yes, in 1.6 there was a box to tick to unable/disable autobrightness.
But, in 2.1, this feature has disappeared, leaving a seekbar and a damned widget which doesn't allow you to set or no autobrightness.
Hi,
The autobrightness is still there. It can be turned on/of from a stock SE connection widget. The different state for brightness is "minimum" -> "auto" -> "maximum"

I can get, either 0%, or 100% brightness, with the ambient sensor disabled. Anything in-between, fades constantly.
No fix for this, i presume?
Reading websites while the screen fades in/out every couple of seconds drives me mad.
Ive never had any problem with it as long as you dont lean in front of it all the time lol.

Whites not as vibrant as before

Hey all so recently my galaxy s2 whites don't have the vibe/brightness they had before. Using the internet or gmail for example is where i am noticing the problem. Things I did before I started noticing this issue was clear ram/do a backup using cwm and let my friend use the phone. Any ideas what might cause this? and yes i have brightness set to 100%
Which ROM are you using? If you are on a stock ROM go to Display settings and there will be a Background Effect option, changing this may help you. Might sound stupid but check your brightness while you are in the Display settings. Also, I'm not sure on this but I think there is a specific brightness setting in the browser options make sure you have a look around there too.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am on the stock rom with brightness maxed/background effect on standard browser brightness is also 100%.
The white text/app icons in the homescreen/application drawer have the bright whites i want but when i actually go into an app they aren't as bright as before.
Hmm update when I have the internet browser open and click the search bar to type in an address the screen gets really bright as it was before but when i close the search window that brings up the keypad it goes back to the previous dim white/colors. pressing the menu button in an internet browser also has the same effect
I think I fixed it there was an option in display called auto adjust screen power that was checked. Does clearing the ram reset all settings back to factory settings or something?

could you elaborate please ?
with cm7.1 i had the light to stay on all the time for some reason/setting, and i couldnt find any settings for 'timeout of soft buttons'. I found a setting for turning off the 2 buttons' lights..but it doesnt always work.
changed the button's values from 255 to 0 in cm7settings>display>aut. backlight>edit other levels. now the soft button led lights are always off.
theres an app called 'screen filter' that can turn them on and off, if one want to keep that app running just for that. its annoying there isnt any proper settings and adjustment of these buttons..

[AUTO-BRIGHTNESS MOD] UPDATED 16/4/11 Enable Auto-Brightness easily WITHOUT ROOT!

As you know, automatic brightness has been disabled by default and you cannot enable nor does it have the option.
Here's what you can simply do to enable autobrightness on your xperia s:
1) Head over to the market
2) Search for SPARE PARTS application.
3) Run it, then scroll down to brightness and tick AUTOMATIC
4) Download NOTIFICATION TOGGLE application by j4velin from the market (OR any power widget/brightness application that presents you the option to tick auto-brightness)
5) Enable the brightness toggle
6) Click the brightness toggle you have set, and set it to 18% (REQUIRED to make autobright ness work - this is the lowest sensor value it can read)
7) Finally, tick the choice to choose automatic.
6) And this is how to get autobrightness without root, enjoy your beautiful screen wherever you go in any situation, day or night
confirmed working here, thanks!
confirmed working here to, tho i didn't do the last step 'install notification toggle' it ruins my drop down bar.
Nice find!
Auto bright work withot mod.

It's on by default.
No root required, just a working phone.
Also, this doesn't belong here, as you suggested apps, nothing you actually developed...so it should actually go into the "Themes and Apps" Section.
You pretty much just pointed out a widget that can turn it off which could be done anyways by several apps.
A little bit improvement...
I had installed SPARE PARTS and activated the automatic brightness...
And I also installed Notification Toggle, however I not really like it since it really will ruin my drop down notification...
So I chose to use Brightness Level...
BUT!!!
For my case, if I adjust the brightness to MORE than 50% before and then directly pick auto brightness (multiple tests in both Brightness Level and Notification Toggle), it will no "Auto-Brightness" adjustment.
Addition: If initial brightness is 0% and then directly choose autobrightness will have same problem.
I do need to either do in these 2 ways:
1) toggle the Xperia S preset toggle widget: turn off the backlight (the widget which can toggle wifi, bluetooth...)
OR
2) set the initial brightness between 1 to 50%...then just change to autobrightness...
P.S: I dunno is my illusion or not, if I change to 25% at the beginning then autoB, the brightness will not drop less than it while I close my room's light...XD

yes, the lowest the sensor can go is 18% (confirmed), so for auto-brightness to work at its best, set to 18 then click auto, first post updated =)
Working!
Thanx dear! Its working!
thanks

My problem is that I can't turn it OFF...I hate the Xperia S auto-brightness...it's so slow and not smooth at all...it's like varying from 10% to 10% and it never stops varying!!so annoying!...initially I even thought it was a screen/light problem until I noted "ohh...this is not a screen problem, is just an awful auto-brightness"
not working ,,, root and unlocking bootloader , custom rom and kernal
any advice >?
and thx for hard work
Thank you for sharing
Hello, when i search "spare parts" on google play, i only found the "spare parts plus!" app. But the problem is this app doesnt have the autobrightness option. Anyone knows where i can find the spare parts app that have the option???
Thanks a lot.
it's on by default on my default ics 4.0.4 xperia
its working thanks

Activate on raise problem

Hello.
I have the Amazfit Pace A1612 with standard ROM 2.8.0.5 that got installed OTA.
I've noticed a problem with my watch, even after factory resetting that activate on raise setting keeps turning itself on think randomly. I don't like this feature and I keep turning it off but after a while it just resets itself to on. Any ideas how can I fix this? Thanks in advance!
Is Auto Backlight Off? It's sets Auto Raise to be turned on or off automatically.
That seems to work so far... Seems illogical since maybe I want the screen to set brightness depending on the current light situation but not raise feature...
I have the same problem on Amazfit Stratos 2.
If auto backlight is enabled, 'activate on raise' turns on by itself.
Very stupid and annoying "feature".

'Backlight' is set independently of this option. The 'Auto backlight' is perhaps clumsily named. It just a scheduler for 'Auto raise to light up' option, not the 'Backlight'. Backlight can not be scheduled but it's easily accessible in quick options swipe down..

Huh?
Did you mean the screen where you can also set silense, airplane mode and go to settings?
