I installed Android Revolution HD and a few scripts including ROM Cleaner, and now everytime I press the search button, nothing happens. Also, if I long press it, it takes me to voice actions. What do I do?

Is there any other way I can do it like remapping the button to go to the google search app?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464
It's called Button Remapper.
I used this app to assign camera button as receiving call and it works great!

Thanks, and I already tried the app and I honestly don't know how to use it. I clicked the search button option and then the default was to search. I restarted and nothing changed, can you help me?
Install KeynrTracker.apk from the url I posted. (there are attached files at the bottom.)
Run and see if your search button hardware is working.
If button isn't functioning as it suppose to do, you know what to do
...another flashing job...
Or assign new button for search button.
like select 248 (camcoder)
pop-up comes on, set
action - search
state - none
Restart and you got new search button that uses camcoder button.

I downloaded that file, put it in system/apps, rebooted, and now it works. Thanks!

On the G1 you could hold down the call+Menu+hangup and it would reboot.
Is there a hidden key combo for the Vibrant? Normally I either shutdown and then restart or I use Terminal and type "reboot"
Anyways if anybody knows please speak up. I reboot now and then tinkering.
been wondering the same thing!

Hey thanks. It was kinda like 8 seconds for me, but whos counting.
I have not found one.. Although if you search the Market there is a "quickboot" app, you can make a shortcut on your homescreen and with a click of the icon it reboots.
This is the best alternate to it...
I hold down the volume buttons [up and down] while the phone is off. Boot up and wait for it.
^ he is talking about rebooting, not recovery.
Thanks for the tip kizer/gad13.. I added it to the sticky.
Yeah thanks for adding it to the sticky. I was going to follow up with another PM to you to make sure if there is a mention to who discovered it, it would go to Gad13 since well he told me. LOL
updated it, thanks guys.

Agree. This is what I do as well. Except I don't have a shortcut because I might accidentally click it.

using the newest s5570 cm7 rom from tj? I installed 5 times and all, and its just not appearing in settings. u using gapps?
I have the exact same problem. I hate it!! Anyone find a solution?
I posted a fix in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1167750&page=372
Simply, edit /system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl and change key 107 to POWER instead of ENDCALL.
Anyone have a working screenshot app for the Photon? In particular...I am running Cybik's CM7 ROM, so obviously I am rooted and unlocked...just can't seem to find one that works with this ROM.
TIA

Where did the voice search shortcut go? It would have been nice if a long press on the recent apps button brought up voice search. When I'm driving, I want to be able to "call home", or " "navigate to Best Buy". I tried to create a shortcut, but the voice search is not a app or widget, so I have no easy way to get there without multiple steps.

I noticed this too :/ I use the Dragon Go! assistant app and it has the same problem.. The quickest way to get to it is to use the google search widget. It's voice button gets you straight to it.

Yes, that's what I've been doing. Just wish there was a voice search only widget so I could put it on my home screen and not clutter it up, or a long press on the useless recent apps button.
Also, where did the Sound Hound app go? I can create a shortcut, but if I go to the apps area, it's not there! Tried to uninstall and reinstall market Sound Hound and you can't! Total garbage!

Soundhound is under Music now.
found a workaround
I've been looking for this shortcut (soundhound) and a couple others that seemed to disappear from the all apps drawer. The program is listed as installed, but you can't start it easily! This is what I found posted:

Easier to download google voice button from play store.

I modded mine to use the focus button on the camera (half press of the camera button). Whenever you're not in the camera app, hold it at half press, and voice actions pops up. I'm putting it into a zip right now, link to follow.
I'm sending ian in here to help u all out, he make a key remmaping the focus button to voice actions
Ok, after a long (LONG) day. I've got the zip, and I've managed to get it uploaded. This just makes the focus key (half press of the camera button), act as the search key, outside of the camera app. Hope you like it. Thank ticklemepinks appropriately for getting me to post this

There's a way to bring back the "Voice Search" shortcut. I have it on my dock right now.
Someone at AndroidCentral created a thread about it, but since I don't have that many posts right now to send you guys the link, here are the instructions:
1) Download "QuickShortcutMaker" from the Play Store.
2) Launch QuickShorcutMaster.
3) Do a search for "Voice Search" and you'll get a list of Voice Search Activities.
4) Select the one that has "RecognitionActivity" in the description.
5) Select OK.
6) The "Voice Search" shortcut should now appear on your Home screen.

Thanks for posting this, but since it's not an apk, and I don't think it's a kernel file, I don't actually know what I'm supposed to do with this zip. For the record, I tried changing the extension to apk and that didn't allow it to be installed. My evo is a stock, unrooted one at present.

You have to flash the file via custom recovery. Not something you can accomplish completely stock.

Ah, okay, I just got the phone yesterday and haven't installed any custom recovery yet. I should probably get on that. I ended up with an evo3d on 1.50, and therefore wasn't able to take advantage of such niceties. Thanks for letting me know.
You you possibly map it to a long press of the recent apps key? That would be more practical, think the half press of the camera key would happen too easily.

Well then your problems are solved.
But I'm sure the vast majority of people want it back to the way we became used to it.
Does anyone know how to do this. I have recent app remap to menu. I would like to add long press to this button to launch NOW voice search. Any ideas.
I think it would be the user/keylayout/synaptic something. Check runandhide05s thread in the dev section, should get ya in the right direction.

That's not entirely correct. Their rom allows you to choose the action for long press back and long press recent.

heres the key mod http://d-h.st/8T4 I did that one... you can download and change them around and the keys will change I just changed menu... Theres a tutorial somewhere on it...
Take this file and place it in /system/usr/keylayout/You can do this two ways...
1. You can take a file explorer with root access and place the file in that directory and reboot.
2.Goto where you have sdk installed /platform-tools and hold press the shift key and select open command window here
- plug phone in usb make sure the drivers are installed and the phone is recognized via adb devices( if you see a serial# you phone is recognized)
-type:
adb remount
adb shell stop
adb push "drag n drop the file you downloaded into the cmd window" /system/usr/keylayout
adb shell start

Ok then sorry i misunderstood what he was asking!
you can easily remap the half-press camera (focus) button to search. Cam still works, but half press does g-search.
in usr/keylayout/8960.kl
change "FOCUS" to "SEARCH"
save and reboot - done.
Your best quick and easy option, is to just install Nova Launcher from the market, then go under Nova Settings --> Gestures and Buttons --> Long-Press Menu --> select whatever you want to open when you do this. I know that this setting stuck even when I was using another launcher (Apex Launcher), so perhaps it will stick when using Rosie Launcher (stock launcher) as well. Otherwise, you can stick with Nova as it works pretty well
Otherwise, a different option is that it can also be assigned in the custom tweaks if you flash the Viper4G rom
Hope one of these options help,
-Mike
