Hello, I am using ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0
when I wipe my Dalvik Cache i get:
E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext] <--- This part concerns me...
Dalvik Cache wiped
Reflash recovery?
what should I do?
[edit]
*On that Note I was thinking, there are tons of random folders that have accumulated and aren't deleted when I flash new roms. is there a particular method to completely wipe everything on my phone? both internal and sd?
Anybody at all know what's going on?
This is just a guess but it probably has something to do with how CWM reads the storage partitions (sdcard and emmc) and how it is presented in the Atrix as sdcard and sdcard-ext. Which Rom are you using?
As far as deleting everything, you can go to [Settings - Storage] and you should see options to format internal and external storage, which will delete everything on the storage partitions and then you use CWM to wipe cache/dalvik cache/userdata(reset).

I have been bouncing between CM7 Weekly 3/4 and MIUI Alpha 2. I have always gotten the error on cm7 for as long as I have been using it though.. thanks for the reply!!!
Have you tried updating CWM through RomManager or try romracer's recovery?

I tried searching and didn't find much help on my issue, if I missed it somewhere I apologize in advance. I am sorta new to all this but I'm starting to pick up on it. So here's my issue, hopefully someone can help me figure out what I'm doing wrong or need to do to fix...
I downloaded the Bionix v 1.3.1. It's on the sdcard. I go into CWM Recovery, install zip from sdcard, choose zip from sdcard, scroll to bionix, select, and click yes to confirm I want to install. I get this:
-- Installing: SDCARD:bionix-v-1.3.1.zip
Finding update package...
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 (or /dev/block/
mmcblk0p1)
(Device or resource busy)
E: Can't mount SDCARD:bionix-v-1.3.1.zip
Installation aborted
That's about where I'm lost? Thanks in advance for any assistance.
First, did you go into CWM Recovery and click on "Wipe data/factory reset"? When you are flashing a custom ROM, you would need to do that first, then you select install zip from sdcard (from the phone, not the external sd card), then wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache, & finally Fix Permissions under the Advanced menu.
I believe you have rooted the phone with Samsung Galaxy S One Click Root, right? Well there are tutorials somewhere here on XDA that tells you how to flash. Hope this helps!
Also, when installing a custom ROM, you always have to put the zip file inside a folder called DCIM in your phone memory, not the microsd card, so you know where to install the custom roms.

Bionix 1.3.1 does not require you to wipe data, cache or dalvik.
It wipes when you flash it.
You don't put the ROM in DCIM,just the root of internal SD.
Had same problem, flash axura and stay on it for a couple days, then wipe battery stats and flash bionix and it should work

That's what I was thinking about Bionix . I have it on the root of the SD.
I'm going to try Nabeel's method with Axura for now.
Thanks for the help guys, I'll update this if I can get it to work.
BTT
Ok, well I tried flashing Axura instead from CWM, still get the exact same mount errors that I detailed in the first post. How the F do I get past the mount issue?!?! Ugh back to search and more searching I guess...
Ok finally ODIN'd back to 2.1 and that made everything so much smoother. I'm on bionix 1.3.1 now and wow its awesome

Whenever I'm in cwm and I try to wipe my dalvik cache it gives me an error that says: E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext] but it still let's me wipe the dalvik cache and even says it wiped. Is it wiping? What can I do to get rid of that error?
What version of CWM, what ROM?
Odds are your phones fine.
DL the new version of CWM (3.XX) from another link you find and re flash the new download with Odin, then Try it.
Oh yeah, duh. Sorry.
Rom: Kaosinate v7
CWM Recovery: 3.0.2.8x
I haven't flashed a kernal.
Do you have an sd-ext? Like apps 2 sd? If you don't then you don't need to worry. It's searching for dalvik on your sd card if you have apps2sd and moved it.
Your fine
adb push nexusS.apk /system/bacon
I have no apps2sd or anything like that..
Oh haha I read that wrong at first. Awesome. Thanks everyone. =]
Whats the best way to do a FULL wipe of the device? including ALL user data/files/rom leftovers/battery stats/binary counter/everything!?
I am talking about as clean a slate as possible.
*2767*3855#
Extra wipe probably overkill .
Connect phone in mass storage mode and format the phone drive .
Boot to recovery wipe cache Advanced wipe dalvik cache .
Mounts and Storage format system data and sd card .
Use Odin to flash stock firmware as phone is empty .
jje
Thanks Guys appreciate it!

if u wipe with this way u just loss contact and apps that u installed them on your phone but other things like musics, movies and photos .
thanks button
wipe data factory reset and go to mount and storage and format system
To me complete wipe means complete not part wiped .
System Data Cache and internal SD card .
Though no need for wiping SD Card unless data corruption on it .
jje
Wiping by means of formatting won't destroy all of the data, formatting an ext4 partition simply overwrites the file tables. With the right tools it is still possible to retrieve lots of your personal information from a re-formatted partition, including stored passwords, pictures, etc.

All the named procedures does not, don't they?
So either old bootloader and jig or easier use triangle away.
Erasing user data there is an additional option: settings-device-storage-erase USB-storage.
Full wipe. How??

I also do this when the instruction says "full wipe". Aside from this I also format the internal SD(to delete extra folders created from the previous ROM) since all my installers are inside the external SD.
Aside from the above instruction, I also read some posts that you have to mount to a specific folder(not internal/external sd) and clear/format that location. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks in advance.
I do this:
Wipes:
- Factory Reset
- Cache Partition
- Dalvik (Advanced)
Format:
- System
- Data
- Cache
- Internal Storage (No SD)

Could you care to elaborate on how to do the ones in bold?
What I normally do is that I mount points like /system, /data, /cache, /emmc and format all of them. I'll do all of this using ClockworkMod Recovery.

I've been flashing various ROMs over the last few days and mostly doing full wipe installs since i dont have that much to backup/restore.
The way i have been doing it is to boot into CWM recovery and then do three things:
-Wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-advanced > Wipe dalvik cache
I then flash the new rom straight after without reboot.
I noticed in the Hydrogenics thread that it says to format /system under the 'mounts and storage' section as well. Should i be doing this when flashing any rom? Should i be doing else as well (format the sd card etc.)?
I have yet to run in to any problems doing it the way i have been i'm just curious is all.
Thanks

No it's not needed. The only thing sometimes you need is fixing permissions under andvanced in cwm. I hope i helped you anyway.
I always format system just to be sure but yeah ur all good
Mod or Die
no what your doing is fine as the new rom has to build all its information on first boot.
I usually wipe from front to back.

If u want a complete wiped phone format internalstorage. And all wipe options in CWM xD
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
u can format system in the cwm advanced menu to make sure there are no left overs from your previous rom
formating system is recommended by ME i yet to get those pesky problems that few observed
also when you flqash MIUI it formats system for You just to let you know.
formating system = less or no problems
formating system + no titanium restore = absolutly no problems (one might not agree!)
actually i do the same.....a good question here....format the system in CWM what does it wipe.....does delete any files in the internal sd? anyway how to do system format

The clener your phone is the better. When I install a new rom I always make a deep clean.

It's absolutely recommended to install apps from the start.
Hello,
i really tried to find answers around before asking.
I have tryed different roms on my i9100, cm7, cm9, rr, miui. Now i have a tonn of folders from apps that are not even installed on my phone. Now what i want is to get rid of all the trash in my phone, like leftovers from apps i installed with previous roms and make a clean install of cyanogenmod 9.1.
How do i do that?
I would really appreciate any help. Tutorials, links, everything you guys can give to help me out.
Thank you
full wipe, install cm9, erase internal sd card
I normally do the wipes in cwm and format usb storage.
do the following and nothing of the old files will be left.
reboot to recovery
wipe data
wipe cache
mount and storage
format cache
format system
format data
mount cache
mount system
mount data
flash the rom
wait for the installation
Flash a samsung stock rom, keyin the following code using phone keypad *2767*3855# . Is a master factory format code.

Do this step by step :
1. to format internal and external mmc, connect your phone in mass storage mode and format each drive with windows format tool (right click on drive icon -> format)
2. to format flash memory go to recovery wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalviq cache
3. Install rom
