How would I go about changing roms? I can't seem to find a good walkthrough on how to do it. Can anyone point me to one or just tell me how?
I've been wanting to try a different one for a while now, but was afraid of losing all my Angry Birds data (highly important ). I went to turn on the tablet last night and it wouldn't get past what I call the TNT loading screen (the screen after the viewsonic birds, after the gTablet logo, where it is honeycomb looking). It would just cycle through the honeycomb screen until it eventually shut off. I did do a backup in CWM .8. I tried clearing all the cache in CWM, but that didn't help. So I did the factory wipe/reset which got me back to a working TNT Lite, but no data so I thought I could restore the data using CWM option, but it went back to same honeycomb loading cycle and would never boot fully into Android.
So now I'm ready to try another rom since I'm to the point of not having my Angry Birds data anyway. So as the title says I want to try Vegan-tab 7.1.
Thanks

I installed eclipse for ICS with no problem. I then restored everything using Titanium backup. When I rebooted, however, a prompt eventually come up saying something like problem with Eclipse launcher. After two more reboot attempts with the same results, I went to the startup menu, and changed it to reboot without safestrap. (I honestly can't remember why I did it, but regret immediately followed .) Now, when I reboot, it tries to start the stock ROM and gets stuck on the red electric eye. Every time I reboot now, I get to that same point and it goes no further. I can't even access the startup menu anymore. Can someone please help me?
Hey guys!
Im a first time rooter but somehow managed to root my Dell, flash Streakmod on it and install the DSC 2.0 ROM and then upgrade it to 2.3.
My problem is that the moment I unlock the screen after rebooting the phone I get a wall of notifications telling me that googlewhateversystem stopped working along with other applications. It seems that somewhow the whole introduction part of the phone went to ****.
Help?
Did you do both resets for DSC, namely Option 1 from the main menu and the reset option in StreakMod?

Yes. I installed DSC and after that made a factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik etc... then I rebooted and did another factory reset on the dell standard recovery.
EDIT: I restored a backup and installed DSC again but this time I didnt do a factory reset and just wiped the cache. I managed to get on the phone but now I get constant notifications that android.phone has crashed. Any ideas?
EDIT2: I removed my sim card and restarted the phone. Everything works fine now. Seems like the Rom doesnt like my simcard. Well I guess I wont use it then. The keyboard is way to small anyway. I just wish that there would be a good ROM for me to use.
Pardon my english im from germany
It's odd that you're having such issues. I use DSC myself and have not had any problems using it. In fact, switching back to DSC solved a pair of annoyances that appear in the CM7 ROMs for the Streak: no camera zoom and the dialpad buttons being too small. If you're willing to put up with those annoyances, try using CM7 with _n0p_'s Phoenix kernel or one of the CM7 derivatives like Longhorn. Just be aware that other than DSC none of the Gingerbread ROMs are being actively maintained.
I honestly dont know what the problem is myself... I flashed it with ams and dps and then the recovery, installed the zip, wiped everything, fixed permissions and rebooted.
I tried this several times and everytime it has these crashes that make it unable to use the phone. Also after restoring my backup after the install the buttons on the bottom of the phones flash every minute or so.
Geez... why does it have to be so complicated xD?
EDIT: I decided to take a deep breath and try the whole procedure again. Flashed the phone, installed the zip, installed the update, wiped everything, rebooted, after the boot waited 10 mins and voila! It works like a charm!
If you Strephon now would be able to tell me how to change the keyboard to the default one then I'll gladly give you my thanks!
If you mean the Swype Keyboard...
Settings > Language & Keyboard. Make sure Swype is checked. Tap OK on any popups that appear and exit settings.
When you go to type something, e.g. a response to this post, press and hold the input area (the spot where you type). The menu that pops up should have an option labeled "Input Method". Tap on Input Method to change keyboards.
No I mean the standard big fat keyboard from the original Dell Streak 5 Rom. The DSC one is way to small for my fingers to type fast AND accurate.
The "big fat keyboard" is the Swype keyboard. The only other option is the default Android keyboard, with much smaller keys.
Hi guys, I was using my phone messaging my friends. I put the phone down for about half an hour. When I pick it up again it is hot and will boot to the glowing slimbean logo (boot animation). I assume the phone ran out of battery, but even when I plug it in it will not boot past the logo. Do you guys have any idea as to what is going on, and how I can get my phone working again?
Try booting to recovery and wiping dalvik (hold both volume keys, plus power at the same time - release all after the Samsung logo appears). Phones don't usually freak out like this unless there's something the user either did or installed, especially those running stable slim roms.
On another note, the version you're running is very outdated; have you considered installing the last i777 slim rom, based on 4.2.2 (8.1)?

Thanks for your reply Steve!!
The reason why I'm still using 7.1 is because I was having battery problems on 8.0. I wasn't sure if the bug I had was fixed so I decided to stay behind. This was probably not the best choice but convenience and stability were something I wanted. I will try 8.1 after I backup my current setup if it works.
I believe its Google Now that has been causing me problems. Ever since I started using it my battery drains much faster, and the phone is hotter than usual. If wiping the cache works then I will delete it , otherwise I will probably have to wipe to factory which I really don't want to do.
OK so wiping the dalvik cache has allowed my phone to get past the bootloop. I get this message "Android is Upgrading.. starting apps" and its been stuck on it for a while. Any ideas?
This is weird, don't really know why - out of nowhere - your rom just all of a sudden won't boot.
And yes Google Now will kill ANY battery!
One other method would be to dirty flash 7.1 without doing any more wiping, if you want to keep it. If that doesn't work, full wipe/format system and start over.
Hope you get it working again!
Hello!
I am guessing I will have to reinstall but just in case, while trying to play South Park on Firefox yesterday the phone just went into a reboot which was odd.
Then it got stuck on the xperia wall paper trying to restart to I forced it to shutdown and tried wiping dalvik and cache partition even on my 3rd try and even reflashing the Doom kernel and still either gets stuck on the wallpaper or it will show the updating process then after the count down ends, it says updating apps and never changes from there.
I can feel the phone vibrating like it does right before it shows the home screen but it never happens.
So, unless someone knows of a miracle cure, it seems I will be reinstalling tonight.
Right now I am using my Wife's Note 2 with pink case...cool!

boot into recovery
do nandroid back up
wipe /data and caches
reboot
If that was successful restore apps and data using one of the backup managers and reboot before each new app until you find the one that is the problem?
Hi all, hoping to get some help. I rooted my phone the other week and was using viperrom. I had no problems whatsoever, no glitches that I could remember. That is, until I decided to trade my m8 with a friends Note 3. I factory reset it and give it to her, I left the viperrom on because she didn't mind but then the glitches started to happen. The onscreen bottom 3 buttons disappeared for her (home, back, etc.), So I reset it again but the problem persists. I searched for an at&t stock rom and sideloaded that after master resetting, wiping the dalvik cache and all that... now a different problem popped up. It hangs at the HTC logo for what seems like forever, but then I noticed the volume up and down make a noise as if the phone is loaded up. I pressed the power button a few times and eventually the screen turned on and I could see the home screen. This happens every time I restart the phone and I have tried reinstalling the stock rom a few times. I am now in the process of trying a different stock rom.. the first was odexed and this new one is deodexed, I dont know if that makes a difference in my situation but does anyone know what could be causing this? Any help would be appreciated.
Nvm, after a few more master resets it seems to have sorted itself out... not sure what it was but its gone now.
If its the latest version of Viper, based on 2.22 software, you need to update the firmware package, otherwise the long boot times will continue.
