[Q] Android 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there, im new arround here
I hope you can answer my question:
I am going to initiate a project with android 2.1 (there is still a 9% of dispositives using 2.1, and as i dont know if 2.2 worths it, i will just use 2.1 for compatibility issues). My project will be using in-app purchases, the other stuff is basic but maybe i will add notifications and data downloads in the future. Is it a good idea to use 2.1?
Is there anything nice in 2.2 or 2.3 you can not do with 2.1?
In what version is "in-app purchases" supported?
In what version is "notifications" supported?
In what version is "online file downloads to the dispositive silently" supported? (for when you purchase something)
Thanks

I think there is not much different between 2.1, 2.2, 2.3. Those os are almost the same. I think you can try 2.3 ..

After a long wait they made an app for android, but isn't working for Tattoo!!
Someone can do something about it??
it works on 2.1 roms...

Flash lite

Is there any chance of grabbing the Flash Lite plugin of another 1.6 phone? I believe the HTC Eris and Motorola Devour both have it - does anyone have access to either of those so we can rip the apk's?
It will not work unless you have htc sense. It is tied to htc software.
There is no Flash Lite for anything under 2.2, or, there is a port to 2.1.
But the HTC Browsers have it, so if one could port the HTC Browser it would work.
Are you guys talking about Adobe Flash or using the light on the back of the X10 as a flashlight?? BIG DIFFERENCE
-If Flash, then what the above post has stated, 2.2 has built in support and 2.1 you can install it.
-If you want to have a widget that turns the photo light on your phone on to use as a flashlight, check out a widget called XPERIA FlashLight. I've been using it on my X10 since May and it works great!
I meant the former. I know Full Flash 10 isn't available until we get 2.1 or 2.1, and that the HTC version of "Flash Lite" (a cut down flash player) seems to be tied into the Sense ROM, but there seem to be other phones (such as the Devour I mentioned in the first post) that apparently launched with 1.6 and had a version of flash lite on them too.
http://www.phones.com/phones/motorola/devour/review/ (Mentions the phone is 1.6 but has flash lite support)
I guess it only really matters if the promised 2.1 update never actually happens...
I thought the Flash coming with Android 2.2 was only for phones with ARM v7 processors, and not lowly ARM v6ers like ours?

Skype on 2.2

Anyone try the newest version of Skype while running one of the newest 2.2 ROMs?
Another interesting thing is in the “known issues.” Next to the Galaxy S it says:
We do not recommend installing Skype 1.0.1 for Android on this device with Android 2.1 and below.
And offers a solution of:
Upgrade to Android OS version 2.2

yes, it works on 2.2
Does it have video calling?
Currently Mobile...But Still Rocking!
no..just voice calling
When the first version (broken on Galaxy S) came out there was a hack to allow Skype on 3G. With this new working version has anyone seen a new 3G hack for it? I love how these mobile communication apps never want me to actually communicate while I am mobile.

Android Market Saying App Not Compatible When Users with MIUI Try to Download

Hello. I have an app in the Android Market called Keep Me Alert which is built against android 2.2. I have a customer who is using Samsung Vibrant and MIUI with android 2.3.5 but they are geting an error that says, My device is not compatible. I'm not familiar with MIUI so I'm intersted in any ideas of why it wouldn't be working? The app is working fine on android 2.2 emulator and on my Android 2.3 HTC Flyer. Any ideas on why Android Market is telling users with MIUI that my app is not compatible? Thanks
do you have any maxSdk version set?
Do you mean in the manifest file? I don't think so. Should I be specifically setting this?

Could be due to the iffy practices of the MIUI developers and not releasing the source code for their kernels which is against the law. Now I am not saying this is the case but with it only effecting MIUI it may not be far off.
It can't be MIUI specifically, I'm running MIUI on a nexus s (2.3.7) and just gave it a try for you, it downloads and runs just fine
I am having the same problem. I have previously purchased and used a program on my Desire but after changing to an MIUI.us rom i cannot re download the app.
Perhaps you have your resolution changed. Look for some LCD res changer and look it up. I'm on cm7 DHD and changed my res to 200 instead of stock 240. E'thing looks much better but sometimes I get the same issue with market saying app is nkt compatible. Then I have to change back to stock just to install an app and then back to my 200.
