[Q] - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hei guys i'm planning to buy an atrix 4g....battery life means a lot to me...i see that it got like 1900mah battery so my question is how much battery life r u getting? 1. with stock rom, 2. with cm7, and with 3. miui
and can u please suggest me if atrix 4g is the best choice regarding its price range. thanks in advance

With moderate use this phone gets great baterry life across all roms. If u can get a refurbished one on att website its the best value available

Yes, on a regular day I use my phone pretty heavily, surfing the internet and things like that. CM7 has been much harder on my battery life then stock motoblur. Miui has never worked well for me, giving its in alpha, this could be fixed. I have used it for about a day, and I can assure you it lasted well over that day. Motoblur has terrific battery life (for me). After a heavy day's use I would plug it in at night and see that it still had 60% remaining.
Tldr: 1 day battery life on ever Rom I have used!

With CM7 I was only using about 35-40% of my battery the whole day with moderate/heavy use.

I get very good battery life with heavy use as well. If I'm not using my phone that often I get two days outta the battery. I use the darkside rom.

Better battery if I stick to a ROM?

After a week of having ginger clone yesterday I got 16 hours of battery with moderate use.
Does this mean sticking to a rom helps battery or no?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I think it all depends on kernels and appear left in the rom. I would like to give u a personal example but I bought my vibrant new off of craigslist and rooted it an hour after receiving it. I don't know how stock run except for my friend's vibrant which gets about 12 hours of batt life running completely stock. I usually get 20 hours running axura 2.2 jk6 modem and super io kernel
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Your battery life is not affected by how many ROMs you flash, only on the ROM and kernel and maybe modem you're running.
The question, as I understand it, was regarding whether staying with one particular ROM might improve battery life. I don't have much experience with Android to date, but this is definitely true in Windows Mobile. The first days after a flash, the ROM seems to settle in and the battery life improves and stays steady. Constant flashing tended to wreak havoc on battery life, from my experience.

yeah i think thats what happene with me..
on ginger clone the first 2 days bleh got 5 hours of battery life, amazingly the days after that, total of 17 hours... i was shocked.

battery is what i need!

Ok guys, Lately i haven't cared about battery because its summer and im home all the time so if battery's low, i charge... but now its different.
School starts in a few weeks over here in Texas. More importantly, my Football camp starts TOMORROW. I won't need a 48 hour lasting battery, but i do want one that will last me no problem to maximum 16 hours, i dont need anything more.
I currently have CM7 glitch kernel kb5.
My phone is usually on standby. If CM7 had a great standby battery i'd stick, but it doesn't...
The most i use my phone is..
A couple calls, no more than 5 a day, 100 texts maybe more a day, and games but you guys dont have to count the games, I play games at home, I don't play games while algebra is going
So just a good ROM, with amazing battery life specifically on standby.
Obviously most of the choices i have will be Froyo based roms, but I guess thats okay for now, im not looking for anything "spontaneous" just a good rom, battery life, i dont want some funky theme on it either. just a simple one.
got any suggestions? Name away
Also if you're using or have experienced the rom your suggesting, try to give me more info on what kernel you used if it was different than stock, what modem etc.
Install bionix. 1.3.1 i believe it has views over 900k and then flash Bali 1.8.8uv kernel....I saw a pic of a battery status...he went 63 hours w/o charging...assuming that wasn't photoshoped...

I will wait for more suggestions. Thanks for yours.
Also don't trust pictures like those, unreliable.
Without using my phone besides checking battery every 3hours I'm sure I can last 48hours too
bi winning 3.0 is great with bali an uv 24hrs easy hopefully cm7 battery can fixed I'm also gonna have to switch once school starts

I suggest Project V. It runs smooth and snappy. I've never had any issues (at least nothing I haven't caused myself), have gotten great battery life and since installing Bali my battery life has been f***ing awesome.
I think you have at least a partial answer to your question: three different posters recommending three different roms but we all agree that you should be using the Bali kernel.
It's all in my signature. I've used all of the ROMs listed so far, and Toxic's has been my favorite by far. Love the near endless stream of themes that come from the group besides all the great tweaks.
I've easily gotten 48hrs with light use, or 5hrs of nonstop gaming.
I was just about to ask this. Im on Revolution rom and ill get about 6-7 hours with moderate usage. Not the best but ehh its entertaining. But back on track i too would like to know what rom has good battery life

Just run any 2.2 rom with overstock. Have a sleep profile of 400/100 and use superpower (free) from the market and have it not turn on the mobile network for 2 hours and let it run for 1 min. Use startup manager to kill all the unnecessary apps that want to run and be done with it. It requires some work on your part but well worth it. Do note you can really cause problems for yourself by doing what I suggest by one mistep, you might not have any cellular signal at all. But I can tell you the battery savings are great. I work at a factory 12 hours a day and I leave there with 50%. This is also in an area that just barely gets edge. Every ones phones are constantly trying to grab a signal and dying.... but mine I'm working on the new Simply honey JVR right now and after a few days once it gets settled ill post a little picture in the battery thread.
I'm going to suggest bi-winning V3. I'm running it with the kernel that came with and get great battery life. I turned my phone at 10 am with 100% battery at 10 pm with several phone calls, some texts, checked the market for updates I was at 80%. I've read that some people have used Bali kernel undervolted and are getting even better. But honestly dude, bi winning runs so good and is so smooth that I just can't bring myself to change anything about it.
Bi-winning V3
if you don't care about the thickness/weight of your vibrant, could get a bigger battery..
mobimega makes one that works
on the vibrant.

Bi winning seems to be in the lead and I shall try that out! With Bali
Thanks guys really helped me
Going to football practice now. Cya
Excellent choice my good man!! You shall not be disappointed!!
I'm currently on CM7 Trigger Redux and I can tell you that battery life only lasts around 15 hrs depending on usage. I usually just check my email, check the time every now and then, put in a few texts, and some randoms. I can tell you that Bionix 1.3.1 was a lot better but you couldn't really do much with the Bionix. On average, I would get 18+ hours. I have been told that any GB or Froyo bootloader ROMs would usually always have better battery life than CM7 just because of the system files CM7 uses.
So you dont have to stop using ur phone like its meant to be, buy a couple of cheap $4 batteries and a cheap $3.50. battery charger from ebay like that u have a fresh battery when ur about to go dead. That's what I do cuz I got tired of killing this, freeze that, install this, uninstall that, lower this. ....u get my point. I use my phone like its meant to be. I listen to music all day at work with my bluetooth earbuds and on my breaks I play a game, browse the web, watch something on netflix, etc. without having to worry about battery life cuz I'll just pop in a fresh charged one when needed. I keep a battery at work, home, and car. No matter what ROM ur using with whatever kernel or tweak applied ur still gonna kill ur battery fast watching a video or playing a HD game. If I have to limit myself doing those things than whats the point of having a phone that could do all that if ur gonna be worrying about battery life all the time. Don't get those extended ones that will make your phone fatter in your pocket and hard to get a case for, just to add about 50%-70% more life for about $20-$30 when you could get 3 regular $4 batteries that will hold as much charge as ur OEM battery. No matter what brand name they have, they all come from the same place (i.e. China) anyways so who cares if that's where they come from. They worked fine for me.
Get the extra batteries. Trust me.
.....aaaand NO! My theme is not just funky....its Blutiful.

i have tried many roms on mine and i find team whiskeys nero 5/voodoo to be the best with battery life. no wifi calling support though but excellent rom.
I can confirm that Bi-Winning 3.0 does an incredible job in battery life. Bionix also does a good job but I feel the battery lasts longer with Bi-Winning. I'm probably going to be testing Toxic battery life soon just because theres more things to customize.

Battery differences on ICS

Not sure if it's me but figured I'd ask the community. Has anyone been getting worse battery life after flashing ICS? I came from UnNamed rom with Entropys daily driver and had about 40% after 17 hours on a daily basis (2 and a half hours screen time texting, web, XDA, etc)
Switched first to shostock 2, and ended up knocking down to 50% under 8 hours with the same amount of usage, flashed on over to phonebricker with siyah and same thing. Anyone else having similar drainage?

Currently running SHO2 V3. Battery lifes been great for me.
No more wakelocks. I can go to bed at 100% and wake up 8-10hrs later and be at 97%
I'm not getting any Wakelocks either. Battery's amazing when the phones locked. But it's the drain when the screens on that baffles me

Someone reported having superior battery life with ICS on Shostock, Bricker or AOKP.
I, in the other hand, never have a great life on it. Considering light usage, getting 20 hrs max (where I used to get close to 48 hrs) including roughly 2 hrs screen on and 2 hrs talk time. Not great at all, but not bad, I can survive.

Exactly! I know others who all have these amazing battery stats yet for some reason I just don't. Couldn't figure it out for the life of me when I haven't been doing anything different. Was beginning to think maybe I'm just enjoying ICS a little too much and need to put the phone down..

Probably has a lot to do with the oled screen. It has to suck more juice than the standard lcd

I was getting 30+ hours a charge easily on GB if I sidestepped a few battery killers. I get nowhere near that on any of the ICS roms but it's worth every juice sucking second. I love it.

So an i777 running Gingerbread has an LDC screen and an i777 running ICS has an OLED screen?
What you're saying is true, but it has nothing whatsoever to do with this thread.

I use phone bricker 2.7 as a daily driver and the battery life is pretty decent. The MIUI port seems to do even better (I uninstalled it because somehow it was unpredictably laggy). Might as well try those too.
I started running AOKP about a week ago and my battery life improved quite a bit over the rooted stock rom. But I never have had very good battery life out of the stock rom anyways, except for maybe day or two after a factory reset, I would have OK run times until that dreaded wakelock kept sneaking back in the picture. AOKP has been much more consistent for me and I have easily been lasting 16-18 hrs with light/medium use and atleast 40% remaining. I'm running Siyah kernel. I haven't tried any other roms.
I think I'm gonna be going back to gingerbread for about a solid week to see if it really is ICS. Used to get amazing life on GB, then switched to ICS and my battery went to hell.so I got an extended battery and all that did was basically give me close to what I got on gingerbread, so the inconsistencies are starting to bother me a bit. Maybe I'll return to ics sometime in the future to see if anything changes. It's been fun though, and there's a lot of things that I'm going to miss....Oh well

I did this too but ended up realizing that battery life was actually better on ics. I've had the best results with aokp and phone bricker (not w/siyah).

I thought Gingerbread had much better battery life so i switched to shostock 1. However, the battery life there was about the same as shostock 2. My recommendation is to severely underclock it (200 mhz) when the screen is locked. i can go for hours and only use 1 or 2 percent and the battery will be left for you when the screen is on which is when you need it. AOKP + Fluxi= awesome

battery drain

hello friend
i have evo 3d with stock 4.0.3... my mobile wifi and data always enable... that my my battery work just for 4 hours or maimun 5 hours i always need to put my mobile on charging...
is there any kernel .... that have less battery drain....
if u gays know please paste the link
thanks in advance...
gays?
Maybe a bad flash, or you have to let the rom settle.
Can you tell me what exactly is draining your battery? (settings > battery)
There is some forbidden kernel somewhere which may do some good. But i advice you to flash another rom, stock rom sucks.
Are you in a low signal area? My battery life is horrendous when I am. Also what is your screen on time? Four to five hours of screen on time would be excellent.
I am using the same stock rom,but I always keep the wifi and mobile network off. I usually turn them on when I really need them. I DON'T think rom change could solve your problem if you always keep wifi on. My advice, you might try it.

you supposed to say guys right? haha ,i use miui always lasts 48 hours on newest official version
kernel makes all the difference on battery drain, i would suggest you try a completely stock rom and judge the drain over a couple of days
Battery drain is always going to vary from rom to rom and user, everyone uses different apps, sync times etc, so saying that your best bet is to flash different roms with different kernels and test which combination works for you
( Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )
i need something as well. i get about 8 hrs during normal use and minimal 3g usage.
yeah are you roaming alot? how old is your battery? how much are you actually using it? i could see if your on it the whole 4hrs then it would die. if your gonna root ive had incredible battery life with the meanROM v45.
what is the best battery replacement for e3d?
i'm on mikvirgin 1.01.
hardware 0002
stock htc kernel
been seeing a ton of new battery drain since installing the latest swype.
so, i guess my point is: what was the last thing you remember installing since you noticed battery drain.
i know, i know...you hear this all over xda.
but, it's for a reason.
ply a little practicality and solutions just show themselves!
my battery life is pretty good . i do alot of data streaming w subsonic and pandora ect too.
i'm usin paranoid android 2.52, w 3.0.6poonkang that it comes with i believe. im gonna run it up and down a few times and see what kind life i get w this rom, i'm coming from elegancia!, which was a great rom too. def worth the flash! ill report bat stats soon!
My phone needs everey ~8 hours a charge but mobile data and 3G is always on (Custom Firmware).
Think about a battery replacement.
Have you thought about using software in addition? I've had good luck using Juice Defender on my 3D

its aaaaalllll going to depend on you buddy. its going to depend on you habits.
gaming, music, wifi scanning, live wallpapers. all going to affect.
remember, every phone is different as every ROM is different.
finding a ROM where you can OC/UV or alternative kernel with option. but if you go kernel route, go with one recommended by others for compatibility.
FOR ME, I have had good success with Padawan. OC/UV features on Trickster mod working well once dialed in. I don't game, but am on social media quite a bit an listen to a LOT of music and run live wallpaper on the Next Launcher. oh yeah, XDA quite a bit too.
I get 16 or 17+ hours and have roughly 30% to spare at the end of the day.
good luck and read, read, read. help yourself first
The i717 is limited from the beginning due to screen type and smaller battery then what should be I this thing .......I just bought a ravpower 2750 mah battery to help... I didn't like the 5200mah battery .. But I have pulled good battery life before but its hard to pull off unless you know your doing.

isn't that like buying a new microwave and only heating things up 5 seconds at a time?
not much labor for me to plug phone in at night. mine gets me through the day, actually using it, and I have 30% or more to spare.
