I attached the APK so enjoy!

How did you install it? I'm on UnNamed, I uninstalled the themed version, and I get nothing but Force Closes with this Swype.

I backed up then uninstalled by Titanium Backup, and used the installer without a hitch.
Running UnNamed 1.3.2 though, not sure if the newer versions may be the reason why its not working properly.

Cool. Must be the fingerprint with the new UnNamed.
And how do you find the voice accuracy? Is it better? Just curious...

If I say yes now its just a placebo effect in my head.
Have to do some testing with it for a few days and see if its noticeably different or the same.
Saw this in the UnNamed thread, might want to give it a try.

Tried installing the beta, tells me it's unavailable for devices that have swype preinstalled...
Any thoughts on how to get around that?
Edit: Nevermind. Uninstalled it via titanium, mounted the system partition, removed /system/lib/libSwype(version number).so and then all was well.

I guess that seems to be the way to do it. I'll give it a try over the weekend when I get a chance to mess around with my phone
EDIT
so, installed perfectly using instructions from post #5. I don't really know what's the difference between uninstalling via Titanium vs. adb removing, but it worked with the Titanium method, and not with adb.

Thanks for the tip on using titanium to backup/uninstall, works for rooted stock as well

I've been using it for about two days now and with the exception of an beta-ish incident I had with it (it stopped working after my first reboot if the phone and I had to reinstall it), I can confidently say that this update makes Swype much, much better. Swype always used to piss me off within the day for the simplest of reasons, but with all the new gestures, dictionary options and (finally) contextual typing, it's hard to put this one down. And it should be mentioned that I'm a huge keyboard junkie, if that exists. I have pro versions for most of the keyboards on the market and constantly switch between them because they generally all disappoint me in one way or another.
The voice recognition is naturally better now that the company has been acquired by Nuance, but it isn't quite up to the accuracy of choice dictation on the iPhone 4s, for whatever reason. Is it better than what it used to be on Swype/Android? Hell yes. In addition, this can do languages other than English, something I found particularly amazing.
All in all, I like it.

deleted

The speech recognition still sucks.

I have no idea, but I know it auto updates (maybe not if you remove the installer) so not sure if it will break the theme or not when it does update.
Really missing how it looked on UnNamed.
Going to change the thread title and put a request for a theme.

If someone can provide the apk i can try and take a swing at theming it. Shouldn't be too difficult

Actually just had a look at the new apk... it's completely different so I don't think it'd be possible to just transfer it over from the old one.
I can try and do it manually... we'll see how it turns out.

Good luck, after the holidays i'm going to read up on theming.
I tried doing it myself to change the stock SMS but couldn't get it working ended up using goSMS lol.

I just did a proof of concept, just to see if it works... It's really simple actually!!!!
I did orange and blue (Denver Broncos colors) if you guys want it, just install it like normal.
Here is how to do it:
You take that .apk file thats in the OP, make a few copies of it just incase...
Then you get 7zip, open it up with 7zip... copy all the files in "assets/keyboard" to a new folder on your computer.
The files you need to edit are preceded by "display0_" since we have wvga screens.
The way I did it was open it up in photoshop (the images, that is) and edit the file and save it.
The files I editted were:
background
caps
capsbutton
funcbutton
numbutton
selbutton
textbutton
AFTER EDITTING!!
This is where it gets tricky...
You open that original .apk with the 7zip proggy and you transfer all those images back into it, in the proper folder.
Now you need to sign it using apkmanager or whatever you may want. Open it up in apkmanager, and sign it (using the batch signing folder thing option choice thing).
DONE!

Oops guess my message by xda app didn't go through.
The theme did work perfectly, good job!

Would It be too much to ask for a dark-themed swype like on ICScrewD or unNamed?
Then I can finally update swype

You will have to reset your homescreen widgets after applying this morph. Not sure why, but they will all pop up with the "Problem loading widget" image.

It's possible but I don't see custom backgrounds implemented any time soon. From what I can see, there's not an image that denotes app menu background, so it would take a tweaked version of the launcher to even enable that, not to mention an image chooser as well.
That being said, we do have the source, so it is possible. It would just take someone with the skill and dedication to accomplish it.
Thank you!
I thought it was so stupid that Samsung decided to add random color backgrounds to the icons.

Glad to hear that it's possible, sure enough I would do it if I had the skill for it. Thanks for this, I actually like it better without the background. Kudos!
Actually, after reading up on it, it's sounds like Samsung might not have included the TouchWiz UI in the source they released. So it may be a bit harder than we though, but that's still not to say it's impossible.
I'm glad you like my morph, though. I couldn't stand the tiles either.

well i dont think itd work because i didnt sign it, and it was originally a system app, you can feel free to try and let me know though. I'll try to see if i can make an installable version.
I am currently working on another release. So far I have modified the Ocean Waves wallpaper to look like the ocean waves under the moon night, and I made the galaxy wallpaper take on a more "Galaxy S" color pallette. I plan on doing the nexus wallpaper next and i might have a release by the end of the weekend hopefully. I still dont know how to make them installable apps though so we are going to have to rely on replacing the stock wallpapers till then. if anyone wants to help me out, feel free to shoot me a pm.
Thanks!

Seems like this would be a pretty easy metamorph, since it's only a few png's that are changed for each wallpaper. Or a standalone install shouldn't be too hard either.
I like the nexus wallpaper a lot so I kanged it into a NexusMod apk.

Can you upload and post a link to the apk you made?
Or can the OP offer any suggestions as to why this might not be working on my phone? I'm running the Vibrant6 with a lagfix. It installs both apps, but in application manager it says they are both 0.00 bytes, and they don't show up in live wallpapers at all.

metamorph
I used this theme as training for metamorphing. Everything is the same as in the OP's version, but I removed the unnecessary files of cours, hence a slightly smaller size.
In regards to uploading the modified NexusMod apk, I would have to say no, since it's not a free app. Unless Chris gave me permission. I would be happy to give a brief tutorial though.
Thank you. And I didn't know about the Nexus mod being paid...I thought I downloaded it for free once. I guess they have two versions on the market, and I just don't remember seeing the other. Thanks though for the metamorph.
Although if you don't mind, I would like to know how you squeeze parts into an already made app. Will that allow me to use the different colored particles from Nexus mod on this background?

[METAMORPH] Settings Icons

Update: Changed a couple of icons to make them clearer.
EDIT: New screen shots added. Fixed the folder structure issue.
So, I was getting tired of looking at the off-white icons in the Settings, and I like how some of the Droids (and possibly others) have colored icons in the Settings menu. I whipped this up quickly this afternoon and liked the way it turned out.
No known issues, but you still apply this at your own risk. I am not responsible if it breaks your phone, your home, or your back.

File structure from the unzip looks wrong. If you go back into metamorph and pick existing themes -> settingsiconmod and go down an extra folder, the XML file is there. Select that and apply.

There was an extra subfolder that you had to go into to get to the theme control file (the xml). It caused an error in Metamorph (invalid theme control file) when you were unzipping it. It would still work, but you had to go back into Metamorph after it errored out and select it manually. I removed the extra subfolder so it should be in the right spot and Metamorph should not give the error.
I am going to be working on a Morph for the Dialer too soon. I am not a fan of the blue that Samsung chose for everything. Too pale. I am not sure what color(s) to go with yet, but I am going to play around a bit with it.

This is the full app. You have to install it via an app installer. If you're already running Swype, you must uninstall your current version first. For me, I open Astro File Manager and select the new Swype I want to install. It allows me to uninstall my current version from there, then I reselect it after the previous version is uninstalled to install the new one.

I got an email from Swype Beta late last night.
THe Swype betas you're using (the email says) will expire in a couple of days.
I hope that this isn't true. But the newer version I downloaded (2.4) seems to require online 'Registration' to activate the application.
This will make it a LOT harder to make copies of/distribute.
They NEED to offer a paid solution, or stop trying to 'crack down' on people using their software for free.

The official Beta versions have required registration for awhile now. Inevitably, someone will hack around it, as has happened with previous versions.
The newest version is really sweet tho!
I have paid for many apps that I want, or that look cool enough to own. I love knowing that I am giving back to those that work to make my phone what it is. Now I hate having some one let me use something then take it away, not giving me a fair price on buying it.
I too got the notification of a new beta.
They have made it MUCH harder to get .. even tho I'm 'on the list' it took so much fooling around that I almost gave up.
Did manage to get it installed and I will say so far it is quite a bit better. I really didn't use the previous version much because it just wasn't that much better .. the new one looks good.
Cheers

we're way beyond that... already have made mods to the apk...will update you when i have more
I was just about to sit on ddms and watch while I install it to try to figure it out.
I tried moving my com.swype.android.inputmethod folder from my working installation in /data/data
then backing up the app with Androzip.
Uninstalling (removing data and all)
Installing it from Androzip backup
Moving com.swype.android.inputmethod back to /data/data/
No go.
What in the world does 'registration' do? Tricky, tricky.
THANK YOU!
I have been waiting a long time for someone to do this!!!
I like all that you have done. My preference, is to add one with the black color scheme as that of the stock keyboard. I really like that look/color but I don't use it because it's not Swype.
Keep up the great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad you guys like these. I planned on making a ton of different ones but I'm going to put them on hold until I know for sure if the 1.56 is going to expire soon. Also, once they get the 2.4 all fixed up I'll get on that one instead so sit tight
Edit - Ok well maybe I'll add a few more. I could probably just slide these pngs over to the newer version anyway once it's fixed up.
I added 3 more this morning. I'm currently using the glow in the dark one, I think it's pretty sweet!

Interesting. Downloading now to check it out.
Edit:
Not working for me. sense launcher bootloops (FC's). I see where you changed the green to blue in the white HTC screen between boots, but the launcher itself goes boom.
I can understand FC's on sense, because of the apk changes...but it should bring itself back up without constant FC's and that's where the trouble is, on my phone at least. I'll hack through the batch file and see if I can figure out which apk is causing the trouble.
Had a slight problem with the browser, should be fixed in a min.
Interesting...after I rebooted to clear the sense bootloops I lost all my widgets...'Problem loading gadget'. Removed the Rosie.apk from the batch script and I no longer get the sense FC's...does reload sense though, which is fine.
Lost my logins (facebook google twitter etc). Hmmm...fun stuff.

Ya forgot about having to resign in I will add that to the OP also your going to need the version I'm uploading as I broke the browser v2 works. Or just remove it from the script of the version you have now.

Will do. Wanna mess with a couple of things myself anyhow. Seems to be working ok for now. Gonna reboot and see re-apply.

lol...I don't use it anyhow, so I'll keep testing on v2.
Note: Rosie.apk is definitely what's causing infinite launcher loops for me.
Note: adding framework-res.apk will DEFINITELY blow things up. I don't recommend it. Was worth a shot though. I'd hoped that the launcher reset would reload it...instead of reloading framework-res.apk it just crashed sense completely. Oh well live and learn.
Note: You left adb push ./hosts /etc/hosts but didn't include a hosts file. No biggie, just wanted to let you know.
How did you make a ROM without full root
Bang.... That's the sound of my shooter.

It's not a ROM. It's replacing some of the APKs with modified ones to change the colors and such mainly.

Fixed title its not really a "ROM" its just a modified script that over writes apks in the system.
Settings also FC's...never works. Removed it from the batch file and trying again.
Edit:
Just had a thought...what ROM version are you on? I am pre-ota. If you're not that could be why I'm having some issues. Could be versioning differences.

strange I will try it again it was working for me.
Here's the major down-side to this:
Every reboot you'll have to re-do your home-screens. The widgets die on a reboot probably because of changed file sizes). Even after reapplying this script all my widgets are 'problem loading gadget'.
Not that I personally care. Takes me 3 minutes to set up homescreens and you can PROBABLY restore them with titanium backup (I haven't tested, use at your own risk), but it's a definite extra step.
Edit: Settings works fine if I removed the updated apk from the batch script.
Market FC's too. Looks like this isn't going to work for me. I think you're on the right track, though. I hadn't thought of modifying the apk's yet.

I'm working to remove the problem widgets it doesn't seem to happen to them all. Worse case I will just remove the widgets and leave everything else.
Zone its great to see someone using what we have and finding ways to make changes without a full root..Now we know you's got talent....
Thanks gonna give it a try..

Problem is, at least for me, it's not just the widgets that are getting replaced. It's EVERY widget I have on my homescreen.

Thanks hang 5 for a few I'm working on some bugs with the widgets. They will show up on time and disappear the next. Think I'm going to have to remove them.
Edit:
OK I think its good now. Remember this is a WIP which means it could totally bork your device and you might have to hard reset.
