I 'll try it. Is this my first first???
Running Bulletproof now, setup was straight forward with no surprises. Landscape mode is a bit jumpy, very fast scroll at first but if left for a moment it becomes unresponsive or sticky. Animations are nice. Thanks for the rom, I will run it through its paces.
Nice, thanks for porting and sharing

Hmmmm....I like the specs on this ROM. I may have to try switching from the "Clever" ROM. I'm glad that there is still work being done on Gingerbread (too many issues with Honeycomb).
A quick question: If I apply the "No Radio" patch, does that also kill the GPS? Will the GPS still be able to work as an "assisted" GPS with the cell towers when enabled?
Again, thanks for porting this!

yeah. seems to break GPS, will come up with a better noradio idea later.
No biggie. Enabling Airplane mode and then enabling Wifi is a pretty good compromise for now. Thanks for letting me know before I flashed it!

Battery Icon in Status bar
Hi,
Great ROM so far. I was wondering if there is any way to get battery % in the status bar instead of tying up desktop space with a widget? Beed using XDA forever now with all my htc phones and always ask for that. Its so nice to actually see how much battery is left. Just a thought but would love to have that!

For the time Being I will Be hosting these files on my Site, AndroidRevolutions.com and mirroring them on Android File Host's Beta site.
Since it has become a hassle for some to have to go to my personal android website to download the file, I've decided to go ahead and provide the direct link here
Just come visit my site and sign up sometime? AndroidRevolutions.com
What I still intend to do:
*Add a Gingerbread patch to the Downloads Section to make it Older Firmware Compatible
*Upload an S-On version of the rom (most people who have flashed the newer RUU's can flash this even S-on!)
*remove any more unnecessary files
Let me know of any bugs that may be in it (aside from "personalize" (sense) option under settings.
If you like my work, donations are always accepted!
You can also help by joining my New Android Site at AndroidRevolutions.com!

Flashing RUU's is the ultimate way to brick your device if done incorrectly. Make sure you know what you're doing before you attempt this. At the moment, the files is named GlobalRuuPH98IMG.zip. You will need to delete the "GlobalRuu" part of the name and place that file on the root of your sd card when you're ready.
As usual, the only person to be held accountable for anything you do to your phone is yourself.

The Following is a list of questions that I have been asked across all of my roms. Some may apply to this rom, some may not.
Q: "How do I configure wireless tether to work properly?"
A: "Tap menu, then settings.
Change the Device profile to HTC Resound
Change the Setup Method to Netd (master)
Enabling WiFi Encryption is your choice, however, I would recommend it (password protect your hotspot!)
Enabling the encryption will allow you the next option of creating a password for your network.
Changing the SSID is the name of your network hotspot that you want to show as an available network.
You can enable access control if you like but it is not necessary.
Scroll all the way down and check off "Enable routing fix"
That's it! Ready to go."
Q: "Battery percentages do not match what the system shows when power is low or what is showing on the statusbar or lockscreen. Can we fix this?"
A: "This is a known HTC issue and there is not a fix for it at the moment. Your best bet would be to stick with the lowest percentage the system indicates is the remaining power for your battery. There is a 1% battery mod that attempts to give a more accurate reading but it doesn't always work."
Q: "Is this for CDMA only or can we GSM users use this rom?"
A: "I have conveniently included a GSM patch built specifically for this particular rom ONLY and is listed in the Downloads section of post #2 which will enable full functionality of my rom on your network"
Q: "Weather syncing is not working and ends in a force close. Is there a fix?"
A: "I have removed all weather functionality of the rom but I created a flashable zip to add back the missing elements to make it work for you. This zip is located in post #2 of my downloads section"
Q: "Does this ROM suffer from choppiness of the homescreen like many others?"
A: "The choppiness of the homescreen is due to the default settings within Apex Launcher. Users can tweak their individual homescreen transition and scrolling settings to fine tune it's performance to their liking and nearly do away with any lag or choppiness resulting from the preset. A good first start would be to change the wallpaper scrolling to fixed"
Q: "Is this rom for S=OFF ONLY people, or can we S=ON people flash your rom?"
A: "At the moment, I have not created a rom specifically for S=ON flashing. However, if you are on the last few ICS firmware and have the last couple kernels released from the leak, you should be just fine. If you were on an older ics firmware, you will need to flash the kernel's provided in ZHP Pilot's first couple posts after flashing the rom. You will then reboot into hboot where you will need to follow the directions and flash the kernel"
Q: "I am still on Gingerbread firmware. Is this rom old firmware friendly? If not, will the Gingerbread patch I have from another rom work with yours?"
A: "It is not old firmware friendly. However, you can use a Gingerbread Patch from another rom yes. If you do not have one, for the time being it should be listed in the first couple posts by ZHP Pilot. You will also need to make sure you flash the ICS kernel listed in the FAQ above this one"
Q: "In order to use the rom previous to yours, I had to flash the Gingerbread patch. Now that I have flashed your rom, I get thses reboots every 15 seconds. Why is this happening?"
A: "Since you are on the older firmware, you are going to have to flash this patch each and every time you switch to a newer fimrware rom. That will fix the issue"
Q: "I flashed your rom but while I'm on it, it reboots after about 20 seconds every time it gets back to the rom. Why is it doing this?"
A: "You are on the old Gingerbread Firmware or not on an ICS firmware new enough. Either RUU your way to the latest leak or use a Gingerbread patch"
Q: "What is a 5-Point lock?"
A: "It is an AOSP lockscreen that allows for 5 different preset shortcuts to be displayed in the lock ring"
Q: "Is there any way to change the shortcuts to other apps on the 5-point AOSP lockscreen?"
A: "Yes, but you will need to pm xjacobx your request. Be patient however as he is rarely on-line and very busy"
Q: "Can the Nav bar be enabled?"
A: "Yes, but you will need to pm xjacobx your request to make it work. Be patient however as he is rarely on-line and very busy"
Q: "I downloaded the rom but want to make sure it downloaded properly before I attempt to flash it. Everyone keeps telling me to check my md5 but I'm not sure how to do it"
A: "Here is a link to the Free md5 checker/generator that I use: http://www.winmd5.com/. Use that to compare the string of code with that of what I have listed for the rom download. If you can not use this app, you can also view the md5 on your phone via a root browser like root explorer by checking the properties of the zip.
Q: "I'm getting a force close when trying to load a live wallpaper. Is there a fix?"
A: "Not as of yet but I will try to figure it out and provide a flashable of files that I may have deleted in error"
Q: "I can't get music controls to show on the lockscreen. Is there a fix?"
A: "The only way to get the music controls to show on the lockscreen is if you chose to use an app called "Mixzing Free" or choose to use the sense lockscreen instead of my aosp one. The native player will not work on any aosp lock screens (for now). The flashable for the time being for the sense lock is in ZHP's first couple posts"
Q: "I am done with apex launcher and want my sense one back. How can I add it back to your rom?"
A: "There is a flashable and for the time being, it will be in ZHP's first couple posts"
Q: "Although the inverted apps are cool and all, they really make me dizzy. Is there a way I can go back to the stock versions?"
A: "Yes. For now, the flashable zip to restore all non inverted apps are in the first couple posts by ZHP Pilot"
Q: "I'm having issues with my PlayStore/FaceLock/(Insert Google app name here)... Is there any way to fix it?"
A: "Yes. Just flash these gapps: gapps-ICS-04/29/2012"
MD5: 7c524e1e078164f681e0aa6753180b2c
Q: "Which gapps are safe to flash on this rom?"
A: "I would suggest only flashing the latest ICS gapps for any of my roms as listed in the question above"
Q: "Is there any way to make the caller i.d. show up without having to unlock the phone?"
A: "Yes, but it is a workaround and you will not be able to use the lockscreen that comes with the rom. Download "Holo Locker" from the app market. That is the workaround everyone is using and gives you the Jelly Bean lockscreen"
Q: "Does "Google Now" work with this rom? If so, does the voice portion work also?"
A: "Yes google now works. No, the voice portion does not. However, if you can find it, there is a voice workaround called "Voice Search for Google Now!" that when you select the voice option, it will open your native voice to text and insert the spoken text for you. Simply clicking enter after that should get your results. It was once in the app market but was pulled. If you search hard enough, you will find it"
Q: "The Auto brightness toggle/manual settings always go back to the default before I toggled them when I lock my phone. Is there a fix?"
A: "No. This is a known issue on every rom that uses the Tweaks App. This toggle is only good for while the screen is rom. To make the effect last after screen lock however, you will need to go into System Settings/Display/Brightness and change the settings there"
Q: "How do I activate the Beats Mod or the SonyXLoud mod?"
A: "You don't. They are already active"
Q: "Every time I try to select the Personalize option under settings, I get a force close. Will there be a fix for this in the future?"
A: "Eventually yes. By completely removing it. Personalize is a sense function and because I have removed most of the sense elements from this rom, it force closes. So it needs to be removed"
Q: "What is this power Saver function under toggles? I turn it on but nothing happens... How do I make it effective now and what does it do? Also, I noticed you have an app that allows me to tweak the options for Power Saver but I still can't make it take effect."
A: "The power saver option only kicks in when the battery reaches a low percentage and can not be changed. I believe it is somewhere in the range of 30% and below when it goes active. The settings app allows you to tweak what it does once it activates. Power saver functions however will not activate whent he battery reaches critical if you have it turned off in toggle"
Q: "Do you have plans on adding an AOSP mail or mms app?"
A: "Not until certain issues are worked out. The AOSP mail breaks some exchange network functionality and the AOSP mms breaks media messaging like pictures/sound/video"
Q: "I read that you included the Google Sound Search (Google Ears) app in your rom but I can't find it?"
A: "It is a widget. long press your homescreen, select widget, and you will find it"
Q: "I flashed your rom and my phone gets really hot after a while. In fact, Ive noticed it on all the newer roms lately. What could be causing it and how can I attempt to fix it?"
A: "Make sure you have updated your radio to the latest available and then flash the 2nd to latest kernel. This combination has been known to have the best rom performance for all my roms and decreased heat"
Q: "Does this rom have the DIM LED mod?"
A: "Yes and it can be accessed in the tweaks app with most of the available tweaks on this rom"
Q: "When I turn the wifi on, it gets stuck in the "turning on" mode but never comes on. Why is it doing this and how can I fix it?"
A: "The kernel has been installed incorrectly or is not latest enough for the rom. You will need to flash the latest kernels in hboot. This will solve the problem"
Q: "Does this rom include an AD Blocker?"
A: "It does not as it interferes with some market apps that require it. You can however download several free ad blockers from the play store"
Q: "Do you have plans to add Aroma to your roms?"
A: "I may in the future yes"
Q: "I see you included a version of S-Voice that actually works with our Rezound. However, trying to set an alarm, launch calendar or music app, etc ends in a force close. What gives?"
A: "This is due to the fact that S-Voice is a SGS3 exclusive and the built in functions that have it search for the app you want to launch are looking for other exclusive samsung apps like S-Calendar or S-Music etc. The app would need to be hacked to change the default apps it searches for"
Q: "Does Bluetooth work with this rom?"
A: "Yes"
Q: "My gallery is not showing my pictures nor is my the Latin player showing my music. How do I fix this?"
A: "You just need to clear the cache on those apps and it will solve the problem"
Q: "Can fonts be changed in the tweaks app?"
A: "No, not with the tweaks app"
Q: "I use the Navigation app all the time to get me from point A to point B but it is not in this rom nor can I find it in the market. How can I get it back?"
A: "The navigation app (Blue Chevron for the icon) is actually part of the Google Maps app. Re-Download Google Maps and you will have your Navigation app back"
Q: "I noticed on most roms anything I download goes to the internal memory under the downloads folder. How can I change this to where downloads will go to my sd card's download folder?"
A: "There is a way to do it although I'm unsure of how at the moment. However, if you can change the default downloads folder in tapatalk or the xda app to "Downloads" and anything downloaded through those apps will go to that folder on your sd card"
Q: "I noticed your tweaks force GPU rendering instead of harware rendering. This conflicts with a few games I play and won't allow me to play them until I change it. If it's possible, where would I go to change that?"
A: "It is possible and is as easy as unchecking the option listed under system apps/developer options/Force GPU Rendering"
Q: "My clock doesn't stay hidden or centered when setting it to in the tweaks app. Is there a fix for this?"
A: "No. It is a problem with the tweaks app and there is no fix at the moment for it"
Q: "Everyone else is reporting amazing battery life but mine drains incredibly fast. What can I do to fix this?"
A: "Ensure that you are on the latest radio (1.22.10.0424r, 1.22.10.0424r) 2nd to latest kernel (3.0.14) and that you have no background apps that are using major resources constantly running. Also, make sure to tweak your screen properties/setting as the screen takes up a great deal of power"
Q: "Will there be any way to add switchable equilizers in your rom?"
A: "You can download them yourself. You will have to disable Beats however to use them"
Q: "Every now and then when I toggle bluetooth, it will lock up and not turn on. How do I fix it?"
A: "Reboot"

does this ROM suffer from choppiness of the homescreen like many others? This is probably the only thing keeping me from switching to any senseless ROM

*Jekyll v1.2*CyanogenMod 9(updated 9/17/12--See Changelog and Bugs/Oddities Post #2)
Jekyll is an ICS CM9 Rom I built from source. It is a work in progress and is the sister rom to Jekyll Kexec CM9. Be patient with her. This rom has tons of tweaks and mods that I did to make it my own. I still consider it a beta, but it is daily drivable. You are encouraged to submit bugs, complains, comments or complements in this thread or through PM.
While I encourage you to share this rom, please only post links back to this thread and not directly to my files.
Myself, XDA, Cyanogenmod, dhacker, hashcode, and everyone else are not responsible for your phone or what you do with it. Your device, your choices. I made this rom FOR ME and decided to share it with you all. Enjoy
Jekyll is only for those on ICS (.211/.215 or leaks).
You MUST have Safestrap 2.11. It must be installed on your NON-SAFE side first (if you haven't done this already). If you have no clue what SafeStrap Recovery is, I HIGHLY suggest you read Hashcode's Blog on How to SafeStrap or even better Read This Thread
Safestrap 2.11 is the only official install method.[/U]
Features of Jekyll:
Can be Overclocked to 1325MHz or Underclocked for battery savings.
A metric ton worth of CPU governors. Download an App like SetCPU to adjust these.
Data on boot
0 Bloat-built from AOSP 100%
Deodexed/Zipaligned
Zipaligned at Boot
Google Now-100% Working
Init.d support with tons of scripts
Tons of build.prop tweaks for speed, functionality, fluidity and battery life
kernel logging disabled
Rooted with SU, Busybox and Superuser Pre-installed
All of the CM9 features you've come to love:
Pull down toggles, power menu, 1% battery, theme manager, wifi tether, etc
Also Includes:
Google Now-fully functional
Jelly Bean Lock Screen (Settings/disabling adjusted with app called "Holo Locker" within your app drawer)
Google Chrome Browser as a System App
Google Play Music
CPU Sleeper app-Run Twice on first setting
Your choice of Trebuche or Apex Launcher
Blur data icons (So you can actually see)
All AOSP goodies, dialer, lockscreen, gallery
Also, lightly themed here and there.
What Doesn't Work:
Webtop
HDMI
Screen rotations are wonky
Screenshots need to be cropped in post
Camcorder in 1080p (CM9/Moto Kernel Bug, see post 2 for a solution if you get FC's)
Still to Come:
Working on making initial boot ups faster
Maybe 1 day, rotation and screenshot, but I doubt it
We'll see. This is the first release.
Inverted GApps to help with battery life on a blazing fast rom. Sit tight folks.
I was told that the camera flash doesn't work. Only on camcorder or as a flashlight, but not taking photos. (looking into this)

Under Advanced: Wipe Dalvik Cache
Install Rom
GAaps and Google Now are built into the Rom

Data Wipes/GApps Aren't Necessary
PATIENCE IS KEY WITH KEXEC
Once you boot for the first time BE PATIENT: Because Jekyll has a boat load in script and gidgets and wizzards going on during first boot, it may appear to be black screening on you. SIT TIGHT. While I admit the first boot does take a retarded amount of time, it's only the first time that I've noticed.
YOU MUST WIPE EVERYTHING IF COMING FROM JEKYLL KEXEC. THIS COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS OF UNIMAGINABLE PROPORTIONS. DON'T TRY TO CHEAT, WIPE!
Overclocking
I have changed the way overclocking works in Jekyll 1.2. The rom now boots up at stock clock speed. If you want to overclock or underclock your rom simply go into "Settings". Scroll down to "System" and select the new option "Clock Speed". Within that menu you can click which clock speed you want to run. Make sure you approve SU permissions when asked. Then click the reboot button.
If you want to play with the Governors/Schedulers grab an app like SetCP (there are others) and you can pick from all the added modules and click set on boot to lock them in. I still haven't figured out the best combo of clockspeed/governor/scheduler/battery life.
PM me if you have questions.

Changelog:
Version 1.0
None
Jekyll Version 1.1
Redid init.d stuff, added a settings menu section for overclocking-no publicly released
Jekyll Version 1.1.1
Fixed settings menu (Thank you Bytecode)-not publicly released. Thank you tester desireaftergod
Jekyll Version 1.2 Current
Made a Clock Speed menu in the global Settings Menu (Inspired by EmericanX and Simplex Rom)
Cleaned up init.d a whole bunch
Changed Settings icons
Jekyll Version 1.2.1
Clean up init.d - Not publicly released.
Jekyll Version 1.2 Current
Implementing OTA Updates!
A little more clean up and consolidation to init.d
Bugs:
1) Camera flash doesn't work when taking photos but does with camcorder or as flashlight
2)It has been pointed out that 1080p camera doesn't jive with CyanogenMod and Moto Kernel. If you accidently or intentionally put your camcorder into 1080p and it force closes it will continue to force close on you until you do this: Go to Settings>Apps>All Select Camera>Select "Clear Data" This will reset your camcorder back to 720p and stop the FC's.
3) After initial bootup, the new Jelly Bean lockscreen interrupts the set up menu, just unlock it-it never happens again.
If you don't want the Jelly Bean Lock Screen, it can be turned off in the app "Holo Locker" in your app drawer.

Excellent rom tucstwo. All the mods and tweaks are right up my alley, colorful 'new-age' icons are awesome (not a big fan of icons all the same color for a theme) level of customization in the desktop, app drawer, etc. is insane (i like alotta rows/columns) and the icing (if i could choose just one) on this cake has to be the built in cpu governors and ability to overlock/underclock/damn near do what you want.
A Few Observations:
-The hard buttons don't light up? Atleast ive only seen them light up upon initial boot into the rom. But in dimly lit areas, or any areas for that matter they dont come on.
-So far, ive experienced long boot times every time i boot this thing. As in, i get the 'blanking screen' for a solid 45-60 seconds, then the nexus/cm boot animation. even after booting (not just 1st boot), once in the rom it seems to need to sit for a few to get everything straightened out. Almost as if the initial task/processes ran on 1st boot are being done every time? Before Im asked, I followed all steps listed, battery charged 100%, wiped/formatted everything (no cheating here!), and was very patient with the whole process so not sure what Im missing or didnt do?
-Camera: Wont elaborate here more, i found the camera fix, have yet to try it but figured id list it anyway even though its most likely not an issue
-Screen rotation is what it is, doesnt really bother me.
-Battery: Only been running this since last night but the Battery life does seem better (compared to the rom I had before being the Biotic Nx). Not sure if this is a placebo effect, pretty sure it isnt though.
-Lockscreen Weather option in Settings does not show the weather. Ive enabled/disabled this feature a number times on different occasions with same outcome. Found this was due to both lock screens being enabled (Also accounts for the screen flicker when shutting the screen off). After disabling the holo locker, weather works just fine and screen shuts off as it should without the flicker.
-Texting/Contacts UI: Every other nook and cranny in this rom seems to have its own personal touch as far as appearance except these two areas. Lets just say I dont use the auto brightness and keep my brightness at max, but if im texting or looking at contacts at night/dimly lit room, i gotta turn the brightness down as to not be blinded by the instant bleach white theme. The first rom I flashed on my razr was the Biotic Nx 1.2 Rom. If theres anyway to either incorporate something similar or atleast change the color schemes to better reflect the rest of this rom on future builds, that would be great.
These are mostly nit-picking observations, and overall this really is my most favorite rom Ive tried thus far, it just might be lacking those couple little things that would make this rom feel more like its from Motorola (mainly the hard buttons lighting up). This is most definitely a daily driver with only a couple nuances id change. Thanx again tucstwo, sorry for the long post but wanted to make sure I covered everything.
Also if you need any testing done, I just got this phone and Im on vacation for the week and Id be happy to be a temp. guinea pig!
Robert

Credit where credit is due:
As with any open source stuff, some of this work is my own, most of it comes from other sources. So in addition to my own work (mostly in the "mean" category), here's a quick thanks to those of you who contributed knowingly (thank you) and not-so-knowingly via open source 5 finger discount (thank you just the same: your stuff is good and that's why I used it). Sometimes it's not entirely obvious where the source started so if I missed someone, please let me know and I'll add you. Also, I'm careful to only include other work where the author does not specify any usage restrictions or has given approval. If you believe, however, that I've included something that shouldn't be in this ROM, please just PM me.
Credit Scott for the deodexed stock base!
Thanks banccalif for the graphics!
Other credits: I list them in the features section above and give links to the original works so you can donate to other devs for specific mods you like!
Want my stuff?:
I list credits in the features section above and links to original works: if you see something credited there and you want to use it, click the link and seek permission from the developer I've credited. If you see something in this ROM and I don't reference some other source, I probably coded it myself. If you want it: take it and use it in your ROM, your theme, whatever you like. I just ask that you please credit me. I'm a firm believer in Android and open source so you don't even have to ask. Anything you see here... it's yours for just the price of a simple line crediting me. I always share as I believe that's the way we developers put the power in Android... and one way we can fight "the Apple brainwashing machine".
Below are some pointers on updating your firmware, installing recoveries, modding, etc. before we get to the good stuff (installation and downloads).
CHANGELOG:
See post #2
Problems after you flash?:
PLEASE DO NOT REPORT PROBLEMS IN THIS THREAD UNTIL you've done a full wipe and fresh install to see if that cures it. I know I should really just do like most devs and proclaim REQUIRES FULL WIPE/FRESH INSTALL on every version. That saves me a lot of headaches but I know what a PITA a fresh install can be even with MyBackup or Titanium at your disposal. So it never hurts to try just a flash without a full wipe, but if you run into any HINT of a problem... anything at all... don't report the problem in this thread until you've tried a full wipe and fresh install first to see if that cures the problem!
Note regarding tweaks: don't flash tweaks or themes on top unless you KNOW the tweak/theme is compatible with the the LL4 base
Installation - a final note:
First, the usual disclaimers. I supply the ammo, you use it. ROMS don't kill phones, n00bs do. Use this ROM at your own risk as I won't be responsible for bricks or any other untoward happenings. I spent a lot of time ensuring that the stuff in this ROM is fast, smooth, and compatible. But... it always helps to have some familiarity with flashing ROMs to keep yourself safe.
Download links are below
If you've never rooted your phone and it is completely stock on the latest LL4 base, I would recommend rooting your phone using this thread. It's the easiest method I've found and when you're done, your phone is completely prepped for flashing ROMs
Now to installation of the ROM itself...
Always make a Nandroid backup before installing anything on your phone!
On first install of MeanBean, do a full wipe (at least a factory reset)
Subsequent updates: no wiping necessary BUT...
If you have any trouble at all, do a full wipe and then reinstall
Install using TWRP recovery
On first boot, open "Power Toggles" app and set up your desired toggles
... you're gonna break it!
Don't flash any other mods, tweaks, or themes unless they specifically say they are built for (the latest version of) MeanBean or you WILL break features in this ROM and/or cause instability! While this ROM is designed to have the general look/feel of the stock ROM, it is highly customized under the hood and mods, tweaks, or themes not designed specifically for this ROM will cause problems. If you want this ROM to run perfectly without any issues, do not flash anything on top.

From the home screen, press "Menu"
Select "Display"
Scroll down and check the "Display battery percentage" checkbox
Reboot (reboot is required to update the status bar and remove the circle battery meter)
Sticky Debloating (v1.06 and up)
Sticky debloating is done using a simple install script located in /data/MeanBean.blt. Here are the instructions on how to use sticky debloating:
First time you use sticky debloating
We set up sticky debloating by flashing the bloat definitions template which contains a list of common bloat items:
Reboot to TWRP and flash /sdcard/MeanBean/stickybloat.zip (also located in /data/MeanBean/stickybloat.zip if not on your SD card)
The bloat definitions file (/data/MeanBean.blt) will be created
This file does nothing until you edit it (below)
Boot normally and continue below to edit the bloat definitions
Each time you change the bloat definitions
We simply edit the /data/MeanBean.blt definitions to our liking:
Use Root Explorer or the included ES File Explorer in root mode and open /data/MeanBean.blt (don't use a PC to pull/push the file else it may be corrupted)
Follow the directions at the top of the file, editing each line as appropriate for your debloating
Back out of Root Explorer/ES File Explorer, saving the file on the way out
If you used ES File Explorer, it fouls up permissions on the saved file: long hold on the file after saving it, then scroll to "Properties" at the bottom, click "Change" and check ALL permission boxes!
Reboot to TWRP and relfash the ROM! You must reflash the ROM to make the changes stick
Now each time you dirty flash an updated version of the ROM, it will be debloated
Notes on debloating
Debloating is done via a simple script that removes what you don't like: the ROM install script runs this debloating script each time as part of the install process, so installing a new ROM version 1.06 or later will result in the ROM automatically being debloated. Obviously if you get creative and do other stuff in this debloating script, adding items that are not in the standard template. If you run into trouble though, you can always reflash /sdcard/MeanBean/stickybloat.zip (or /data/MeanBean/stickybloat.zip) to "nullify" the debloating and start over.
Debloating example - debloating Zappos
Original code in the MeanBean.blt file:
Code:
## Amazon Zappos
#rm /system/app/Amazon_Zappos.apk
To debloat, simply remove the hashtag on the code line like this:
Code:
## Amazon Zappos
rm /system/app/Amazon_Zappos.apk
Sticky Settings
Options that affect ROM performance and appearance can be found in the sticky settings Aroma installer. This file can be found on /sdcard/MeanBean/stickysettings.zip after flashing the ROM. Simply flash the file via TWRP recovery and select the options you desire. Once you make your selections, your selections will survive dirty flashes (for example, when you flash updates without wiping data)... hence the name "sticky settings". Just select what you want once and forget about it!
Note about the version number that displays on sticky settings install
The version number that displays when you run the sticky settings corresponds to the last version of MeanBean where the sticky settings had to be changed. As a result, the version number of the sticky settings will rarely match the version number of the ROM because the sticky settings are not changed with every ROM version.
Available sticky settings
4x4 or 4x5 launcher (default 4x4)
Infinite scrolling - whether or not the launcher wraps around at the end points
Choice of dim/bright status bar icons (If using the bright status bar, test for potential screen burn-in from time to time to be sure bright mode isn't causing image retention)
Screen on w/new SMS/MMS - whether or not the screen wakes with incoming new text messages (default no screen wake)
Keyboard auto-correct - auto correct for the Samsung keyboard
Palm swipe (R to L) to sleep
Palm swipe (down or up) to go home
4 finger touch to go home
Ringer fade - whether or not the ringer starts out at low volume, then changes to full volume (default no volume fading)
Display AM/PM - whether or not "AM" or "PM" is displayed with the clock on the status bar (default no AM/PM)
Toggles - display the stock toggles/quick settings or no toggles (default no toggles: use included Power Toggles or some other choice if you like)
Zero wake lag - whether or not to get rid of screen-on lag (default: get rid of the lag - see below for full details on what this does)
SD card read-ahead - set your SD card read ahead buffer (default 2048K)
De-ASEC - decrypts encrypted apps and places them in the normal /data/app location. Once enabled, just turn screen off/on to de-ASEC installed apps.
Notes on Zero Wake Lag
While most of the options in the sticky settings are pretty self explanatory, I would like to explain wake lag and how to use the zero wake lag option. The zero wake lag option s turned ON by default: meaning you will not get any wake lag. Read on, however, should you feel like controlling this option yourself.
What is wake lag?
Wake lag is a delay (usually between a half second and 2 full seconds) between when you press the power button and when the screen actually turns on from a "sleeping" state. Contrary to what I found in various forums about this popular topic, wake lag is not caused solely by the amount of time it takes for the processors to wake from a deep sleep, nor do the dozens of suggestions that I found make much of a difference: things like turning off the ripple effect, pop up note, ink, or even freezing certain processes. Processor wake time is only part of the equation. In going through system logs in detail, I found many factors that actually added to the amount of delay you get between when you press the power button and the phone is actually usable. Other things such as sensors powering up (accelerometer and light sensor for example) and whether or not you have an external SD card installed drastically affect how much delay is present on any particular phone. I measured the lag on my own phone at 1.7 seconds which, as you can imagine, got old pretty quickly.
But I don't have any lag at all. What's up with that?
If you don't have lag, your phone is never going into a deep sleep. In my own investigation, I found that it takes nothing more than a single misplaced wakelock.acquire command after the screen turns off to keep your phone from going into deep sleep. For your phone to enter deep sleep, each and every wakelock.acquire must be followed by a wakelock.release. That means every app you have installed must behave perfectly and never have an "acquire" without a paired (and properly timed) "release" for deep sleep to occur. Because the processors do take some time (I found about 750ms) to come back on from deep sleep, if you have no wake lag at all, it's safe to say something is misbehaving and creating a wake lock on your phone. If that's the case, the zero wake lag option will have no noticeable effect on your phone.
I turned on the zero wake lag option and I have no more wake lag, but won't my battery die quickly now?
The zero wake lock fix does create a wake lock that prevents your phone from going into deep sleep, but read on: from what I've found, I think this is a good thing! MeanBean already underclocks the processors when the screen is off, which means with your screen off, you only have one core activated and it is running at a maximum of 1 Ghz. In addition, the governor is set to not ramp up frequency as quickly as when the screen is on. This means with the screen off, you have one processor running at slow speed (usually around 200 Mhz) at a very low voltage, using very little juice, but up to 1 Ghz of processing power is still available if something needs to run with the screen off like a media server. The radio in your phone will use far more power than the CPU that is left running to satisfy the wake lock.
Also consider this! With the zero wake lag option turned off, your phone goes into deep sleep in less than one second when you press the power button to turn the screen off! That may sound like a good idea at first glance, but from what I've seen in the logs, I doubt it. I ran the phone normally (allowing deep sleep) and I found that particularly for someone like me who gets a lot of pushed emails, the phone was being forced to wake up hundreds of times each hour! That means if you leave your phone unplugged overnight for example, by the time you wake up, your phone will have shut down and then reactivated and re-powered-up the processors and sensors potentially thousands of times! Is all that waking/sleeping/waking/sleeping good for the sensors and the system in general? I'm not going to say for sure but logic would tell me no, particularly when other processes like maps/google location is already pinging those sensors every few minutes. In fact, I tested the phone over an 8 hour time period with zero wake lag both on and off and my battery life actually got significantly better with the zero wake lag option turned on. Presumably this is because the phone wasn't constantly powering down (and back up) a bunch of circuitry. In the 8 hour time period, I lost 10% battery with zero wake lag turned off and only 6% with it turned on!
Now, if you put your phone in airplane mode and you have nothing running that tends to wake the system a lot, maybe your battery will do better with zero wake lag turned off. It's safe to say YMMV but the option is there to switch zero wake lag off if you wish.
OK my friends. This is my first ROM for a Samsung device. Been developing like crazy for Sense ROMs for a while but just got a Note 2 and thought I'd spread some Mean love over here. The initial release will give us a good start but being new to Samsung and Touchwiz, I would appreciate some feedback on what's hot for this device, what you want to see, any bugs that might need fixing (I've been known to fix a few Sense/HTC bugs before), and so on. This will be a work in progress as we add niceties, but those who know me know that my first order of business is making a ROM that is great on both performance and battery life but never compromising reliability.
See you in the thread!
Regards,
Mike

Right?!
I'll be flashing this to check it out. Now if only we could get an AOSP-looking version with that brightness slider and quick settings removed, I'd be in heaven!
Happy to see you developing for Samsung devices now, Mike. I can already tell this rom looks really promising. Going to give it a spin now.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm having fun developing for a new device. I've only had the phone 3 days so I'm going to rely on you guys to let me know what idiosyncrasies are commonly tweaked/fixed on this device. It'll take me some time to figure out which tweaks are commonly made to this device. Example: on the HTC/Sprint devices, it was common to fix the 1x/3G indicator so it doesn't "lie" to you, fix SMS time stamps when roaming, add back the missing "Menu" button to the launcher, and so on. I don't have enough experience with this device yet to know many of those just because I suspect there's a lot of Samsung related stuff I haven't even tried yet, so feedback is appreciated as we move forward.

Re: [ROM] MeanBean v0.1 | Mar 12 | LL4 | Mods | Batt saver
Some ideas that seem big in other roms..clock choices(center.left.none)change able color schemes in notification bar.i always push multi window control, walkman, awesome beats, torch lucky patcher and rom toolbox to any rom i personally run, more themeing customibility as not to many verizon roms have this ability. Inverted apps, choice of kernels, sd swap, and the list goes on..hope you run with the info as not many devs making roms for verizon, in comparison too att or sprint. Thanks for adding choice, hope to see it grow into a rom i will eventually flash.

That seems odd. I would think Verizon is the most popular and would draw the most customers for this device. I can't imagine more of these would be sold on Sprint or AT&T. Unless Verizon just has too many choices (in smartphones)?

Not that i care..... but i hear its really tough to remove the brightness slider like its built into the framework or something.
So either avoid that or tackle it if you want something super hard to do

If you're talking about the brightness slider that takes up room in notifications, I already did that. That part was easy. But maybe you are referring to something else?

Note regarding tweaks: don't flash tweaks or themes on top unless you KNOW the tweak/theme is compatible with the the DMC3 base
Read the "The international base and VZW compatibility" below
The international base and VZW compatibility
Many people ask "how is ICE different than the regular MeanBean for the VZW Note 2"? With MeanBean ICE, you get Samsung's most recent software which is more up-to-date than what Verizon releases. As a result of running a more recent version, the international base is slightly faster at opening, switching, and closing apps and some other operations thanks to Android 4.1.2: Verizon's latest is based on Android 4.1.1. The international base also gives you access to your Samsung account which you don't get with Verizon.
Verizon Visual Voicemail
While MeanBean ICE is "patched" for Verizon compatibility and every effort has been made to address the "weak spots" reported in many threads by Verizon users running the international ROM base such as GPS and VZW app compatibility, a few people have reported difficulty in playing back messages if you subscribe to Verizon Visual Voice Mail. I've addressed these to the extent possible and for most people, all VZW apps will work properly. If, however, you are one of the unlucky few (or maybe I should say lucky as I'm about to save you $3/mo) who are unable to use Visual Voice Mail on your particular device (there seems to be a lot of variation between devices), I would suggest dumping the (truly non-visual) Visual Voice Mail and spending the ~15 minutes setting up a free Google Voice Lite account to handle your voicemail. It is far more powerful than the Verizon VVM and is actually visual (transcribes)... all without the $3/mo fee! Other than what has been mentioned, you should find that all aspects of your phone (including Verizon apps) work properly. As it is quite an effort to address every unique user's setups, if you do run into any difficulty, just reply here in the thread.
GPS
GPS is working 100%. GPS will work for about 95% of people right out of the box, no extra effort required. If you have trouble with GPS, however, just flash my VZW based MeanBean first, get a GPS lock, and then flash back to MeanBean ICE. That should correct the issue for those unlucky few who have trouble. There appears to be some non-volatile RAM associated with the GPS that is unaffected by wiping (factory reset) and this process appears to clear/fix those rare GPS issues.
... you're gonna break it!

Sticky Debloating
Debloating example - debloating Google Play Books
Original code in the MeanBean.blt file:
Code:
## Google Play Books
#rm /system/app/Books.apk
To debloat, simply remove the hashtag on the code line like this:
Code:
## Google Play Books
rm /system/app/Books.apk
Choice of dim/stock or bright/transparent status bar (If using the bright status bar, test for potential screen burn-in from time to time to be sure bright mode isn't causing image retention)
Screen on w/new SMS/MMS - whether or not the screen wakes with incoming new text messages (default no screen wake)
Keyboard auto-correct - auto correct for the Samsung keyboard
Palm swipe (R to L) to sleep
Ringer fade - whether or not the ringer starts out at low volume, then changes to full volume (default no volume fading)
Display AM/PM - whether or not "AM" or "PM" is displayed with the clock on the status bar (default no AM/PM)
Alrighty Meanies...
Recommend a clean install with this one but if you're on the regular MeanBean and you're bored, it is possible to dirty flash over to this! If you have any problems though, I won't have anything to do with you until you've tried a clean install to see if it clears the problem.

Ha. That's assuming Android File Host and Dev Host both cooperate. They appear to be going slower than usual, but still moving.
Mike
Well, dev-host got done in time, for anyone who wants an advance.
0.3 --> http://d-h.st/pHy

Downloading now! Any chance you could add stock samsung battery as an option and stock toggles and brightness slider? Thanks man!

Everything is updated in the OP and I removed all versions except the latest 0.3 which appears to be running smoothly. Since I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that I'm the only one trying to bake VZW apps into the international base, what I'd like people to report is whether or not all your VZW apps are working and all the functions within them. I tested what I could test like the My Verizon widget that shows data usage, Voicemail, etc. but I can't test Visual Voicemail because I don't have it.
So... need some feedback please.
Thanks!
Mike
Downloading now cant wait to flash thanks mikey

I use your Zero Wake Lag mod on the Galaxy S3 and it works great. But I wonder if it`s so healthy for the CPU to be active all the time and having no deep sleep. Could it it have more wearout when it`s active all the time?
