[Q] Recommend a phone for me - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
I am trying to find a decent Android phone. I currently have the G2x but it's not for my liking.
I was therefore contemplating what to change it to. On the one hand, for the 250 which I am going to get for it (give or take), I find myself on a spot that has no other options.
Should I pay more for the Nexus S? Or maybe for abt the same price go for the SII?
Sensation? Vibrant and save some?
Wow I am lost

If you're looking for cheap dual core phone then get LG optimus 2X. I did the mistake where i could get LG optimus 2X for the same price as Desire HD but i got desire HD.
This is how it is:
Galaxy Note>GSII>Sensation>Optimus 2X>Galaxy S Plus/Xperia Arc S> or = Sensation XL
My personal suggestion would be to get a dual core phone at any cost :/

buy the Nexus S. It's future proof

Not really (for long).

Nexus S! Now with ICS 4.0.3 it's brilliant and battery life is amazing.

The Galaxy SII is more powerful than the Nexus S. It will also get ICS officially.

[Q] Thinking of switching phones, suggestions.

So I'm thinking of giving my O1 to my GF (because she has a crappy phone) and getting a new one for myself.
My first thought was the Nexus S, which is right now 275€ at FNAC. But I'm open to other suggestions. I've taken a look at similar phones @ GSMarena.com and the other two options seem to be the Galaxy S and the Xperia Arc.
So, can you guys help me?
Even I have the same question ..
Which other phone would you guys suggest in this price range?
nexus s - lots of support from devs at xda/cyanogen mod, and it's a nexus =p
here are some comparisions

Sony Ericsson Xperia arc or HTC Desire HD...
Thanks for the replies guys
I just found out about this little beast: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_w_i8150-4114.php
It's a powerful phone and I've found someone who's selling one for 95€. Worth it?

Nexus S, it will get ICS very soon and also has Franco kernel
It depends on your price range.
If your looking for high end, go for galaxy nexus or galaxy s2.
But, i believe your best choice would be the nexus s, as it has koush power [CM9 nightlies]
That, combined with francos kernel is a f**cking rocket and it outperforms even Galaxy S2. Just visit the forums and you'll be amazed
P.S. - What happens to your O1 if you'll breakup?
Go for a Nexus S . Has much much support, I was going to buy but was out of my reach. So I went for a Motorola Defy and so far is a great phone , I did not fail in anything

I would by Nexus S - good support..
Unless plans change I'm going for the Samsung Galaxy W, it's pretty and not too big. It's got a 1,4GHz Snapdragon with an Adreno 205 and comes preloaded with GB 2.3.5.
I REALLY REALLY wanted a Nexus S, but my wallet can't afford it. Damn things are priced at 250€ even second-hand.
From next week onwards I should stop coming to these forums since I'm giving the Xmas present this Friday. I'll keep rooting for everyone here though
I'll keep searching for a decent priced Nexus S or even a SE Neo, but I really don't get my hope up, and I can get the Galaxy W for 105€ w/ contract.
Nexus S is just the perfect choice. That Samsung W is good...ish... Samsung will forget about that phone and I don't think it will have many community support. The CPU is fine, but the GPU kinda sucks compared with PowerSGX 540 from the Nexus S, and the Nexus has the best single core in the market. Screen size is lower too... Well if you can go for the NS, you an use my kernels as well, they are pretty popular.

I would but the Nexus S if it had contract via TMN which made it's price lower, or I found one I could buy paying in like 10 months (I would even buy a damn Galaxy Nexus if I could pay it that way). FNAC has it for 27,5€x10month but guess what, I can't buy it like that -.- So my choices are pretty limited. But you being PT like me and all might be able to shed me some light into what other options I might have.
I was looking at dev forums for the NS and I saw your kernel there so I was like "Well, I already know what Kernel to use if I get it xD"
NEXUS S !!!!! OFFFFF SssssO...... F****** COURSE MAN!!!!!

[Q] new phone? what to get?

hey guys,
so i have been using the lg p500 for about a year now.
And now i have decided to get a new phone.
i mainly use the the phone for fm radio, internet, music, texting, and some light-medium gaming.
by light-medium i mean things like, angry birds, cut the rope etc.
i was thinking about a phone that has a 1 GHz cpu.
also dev support should be good for that phone. i don't want a phone that most people don't make roms for.
my budget is not high enough for galaxy s2.
but anything below that should be fine.
does anyone have any suggestions?
How about Samsung Galaxy R
http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-R-Review_id2855
Nexus S
Optimus Black
Xperia Mini 2011
Xperia Ray
Galaxy S
Defy+
Atrix
Arc
Optimus Sol
Neo V
Nexus S
Xperia Neo
Xperia Arc
Desire HD
?
Optimus 2X (Good Price/Performance Ratio) or Optimus Black
Galaxy S
Nexus S...
I would wait few moths, when better phones will be released. (maybe with even x4 cpu ). And then all x2 cpu prices will drop as hell
And sorry for my english
Xperia Neo V?
Don't go for LG anymore...
I would get some money and wait till you are able to buy a Galaxy Nexus

Xperia Mini (Pro) 2011.
Cheap, same res as LGP500, much better screen, decent support by SE (it will get ICS update)... with a 1ghz ARMv7 processor.
Or if you can spare the cash, its more expensive brother the Xperia Ray *drool* Still not a high end phone, but its screen is unbelievably sharp DPI-wise (due to being qhd or so on an area of not much more than the LGP500).
Development is still ramping up for both (probably due to the fact that it will get ICS updates) but it has been rooted and there is a decent Cyanogenmod rom (plus some lesser efforts) and at least one kernel.
I own the Mini Pro (and an LG P500 which is currently being used by my missus to replace an ageing Symbian mishap) and I'm quite happy with the keyboard (though I bought a phone with an AZERTY keyboard which cut me off from happily flashing whatever I find on the interwebs because that's all QWERTY).
Defy or defy+

The Nexus S or Galaxy S
ok it seems like optimus 2x is about 500 dollars where i live. and galaxy s2 is 700.
from all the reviews i read online these two phones are almost the same. so i was wondering, is galaxy s2 really worth the extra 200 dollars?
because if it is, i might wait a little while and buy that.
Make sure your aware of the numerous problems with the 2x. I would still consider it but for $500 is way to much. I had the same situation and I went with the Nexus S. Still a very fast phone and it runs ICS well. Bought it new for $300.

what are the problems with the 2x? i couldn't find any when i was reading the reviews online.

Which device should I get?

Hi everyone,
So basically tomorrow is my birthday and my parents would be getting me something. I was thinking of a new gadget.
I currently have the Google Nexus S
So for mobile device I've got the Galaxy Nexus in mind, or the HTC one X.
But lately I've been thinking about tablets. I do not mind getting a tablet to pair with my Nexus S. I was thinking about the kindle fire, but I do not know how to get it in Singapore. Or the Asus Transformer, but im unsure of it because of the price.
So can you recommend me a tablet that lies with the price range below 350-400USD or $500 SGD. ?
So what do you think? And or is the galaxy nexus upgrade a better choice? Please help in advising me. I'm in a dilemma.
Thank you so much!!
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
If I were in you I would only think about the Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100) or the Samsung Galaxy Note.
The S2 is very well supported by a wide community of modders, has got a marvelous screen, and great hardware.
The Note is bigger but still smaller than a tablet, and gives you the possibility to use a very sensitive stylus.
Have a look at the size, and have your choice. If my S2 breaks I will buy a Note.
HTC One X has a Tegra 3 chip, currently the most powerful SoC solution. So I would suggest going for it - it wil be powerful even after 2 years.
S2 or Samsung Galaxy Nexus
I got the S2 but i would rather want the Samsung Galaxy Nexus cuz it's more "Google" if you know what I mean.. cuz i hate the touchwiz, I know you can get a ROM but still.. AND the nexus got the Navigation Bar!
If I were in your place I would have gone for tablet, having two gadgets of different leagues is better than upgrading one.
Thanks guys, I would take all your advice into account. I am hoping for more replies because all your replies are opposite one another

Ok I'll add some more to your confusion!
Getting a new device is like getting a new pair of shoes. You should get the one that fits you comfortably. Here's a short list of what I'd get if I were to buy a phone (depending on need/want):
*available phones only
-Xperia S: Camera monster and cheaper than the OneX, at Par with SGS2's performance
-OneX: future proof (probably good for the next 2-3 years), powerful GPU
-Samsung Galaxy Nexus: timely updates (that's it)
-Samsung Galaxy S2: wide dev support, probably still good for the next year or so (but the resolution is too low IMO)
-OneS: beats the OneX in some benchmarks (in their native resolutions), IMO S4 chip is better than the 4-PLUS-1 A9 tegra 3, more affordable too.
IF you're going for a TAB and you can't afford a Transformer Prime don't settle for the Nook or a Fire. I suggest you get a Motorolla XOOM. It's tegra 2 powered and has an HD screen (1280x800) compared to the 1024x600 of the Nook and Fire, and it has a very wide dev support.
I suggest you go for a TAB and don't upgrade your phone. That way you'll have your Nexus S (which can still run almost every app on the Play Store) and have the XOOM for your multimedia satisfaction
Happy Birthday bro! good luck on your gift!
We have a number of tablets here where I work, and the one that I like the most is defiantly the Asus transformer. But that being said I agree with the last guy the XOOM is a good one and also is most acers. But price aside I would say the Transformer Prime would be a fine choice!

Thanks dude!! I really sincerely appreciate it it must have taken you a lot of time to write that out. Thanks good news I've got a few more days to decide. And haha you've added to my confusion
I've ruled out tablets for now.. this is due to the reason that I wouldn't bring it outside of the home anywhere with me unless I'm going overseas on holiday. This is due to school and lack of time..
So now you've narrowed me down to 2 devices which I had my eyes on. The One X and the Galaxy Nexus. Looking at the One X's development section it Loos empty. That's probably due to cwm being recently released for it. So in the 5days room I've got (parents waiting for a $150 voucher, phone costs $400) I will check the development section of the One X.
Now I wonder, which roms do you think will come to the one X? Aokp? Cm9? These are some basic concerns I have.. looks like I might have to actually go with the One X. How about MIUI on the One X?
Something that bothers me is the One X has a very different look from the Nexus. Minimalistic stuff on the launcher would be pretty difficult to achieve.. so any screenshots of cool designs done on the One X?
Thank you all guys! I hope you had a good day.

It's kind of hard to recommend a phone better than the Galaxy Nexus in it's price range. However I have 2 options I'd consider:
Xperia S:
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4219&idPhone2=4369
pros:
-Best Camera in the android world
-32GB storage
-Sony's reputation of giving updates even to older devices (X10 came out with Donut and came as far as Gingerbread)
-Better CPU (1.5GHZ snapdragon vs 1.2GHZ TI-OMAP)
-with card slot
cons:
-no gorilla glass (can be offset with screen protectors though)
neutral:
-SuperAMOLED vs LED-Backlit_LCD (matter of preference)
-4.3" vs 4.65" (matter of preference)
Samsung Galaxy S2
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4219&idPhone2=3621
pros:
-definitely more afordable
-with card slot
-better camera
-more powerful SoC (better processor and GPU)
-very wide dev support
cons:
-not retina display
neutral:
-4.2" vs 4.65" (matter of preference)
Both these devices are significantly more affordable than the Galaxy Nexus and both has the same, or even better, performance.
Personally, I can afford the OneX but I'll be getting the Xperia S. IMO (benchmarks aside) there is nothing the OneX can do that the Xperia S can't, at least for the next year or so. And in two years time I'll probably be changing phones again, so I'll go with the Xperia S for now.
Hope this helps

Gonna buy a new phone

What phone is the best? My bugdet is 300 Euros. Please help.
For 395 you can get the Samsung Nexus unbranded. For 300 and best one, well you can see ebay.
I went from x8 to Xperia Play, no regrets. There are many superior phones, but for your budget you cant have the best ones. I also had 300 euros so I considered play and arc s, I'm a sony fanboy yes. In my opinion arc s is the best choice out of those two, but I really value the fisical controls pad, it is so much better than gaming on sceen!
I would buy Xperia S but I don't have that much money

Dell Venue is the best, and I am also planning to have Venue, the 4" screen, 8MP camera...
You should have a loot at it.
I heard Alcatel launced a really good and cheap phone: Alcatel One Touch 995 (OT-995). It offers a 1,4 Ghz single-core processor, a screen of 4,3 inch, a 5 megapixel camera, and a great back (in my opinion). If you buy the phone seperately, it will only cost you around $240. Well, I live in the Netherland, and here, it's really cheap for such a nice phone
My Samsung Galaxy Gio just died yesterday, so I might pick up one soon The only sad thing is there's not a XDA forum-section for that phone yet, so searching for ROMs will take some more time...
buy whatever brand you want but dont get a single core
buy samsung galaxy s2 (a bit more than your budget, i know its a budget but still)
or lg p990 or wait for gs3
then these will go down in price, just one or two months
ohh you already have p990, wait for quadcore dude or buy gs2
Depending on the 3g network frequency your carrier uses i would recommend a samsung galaxy s captivate (230$) or motorola atrix (340$) but before you buy any phone check the hsdpa/wcdma frequency

[Q] What new smartphone should I buy?

Hello! I am currently stuck with an ARMv6 MDPI device, the LG Optimus One,so now I need a new one. Since I have a pretty large budget,I was oriented to the HTC One X. But then I found some other valuable devices,so now my choices are:
HTC One X
LG Optimus 4X HD
Samsung Galaxy S3
Now,let's compare them. I don't know if I should buy the One X because of some reasons.
1: Displays
HTC One X has got a Super IPS LCD2 4,7 inch 313ppi display
LG Optimus 4X HD has got a 312ppi 4,7 inch TrueHD IPS
Samsung Galaxy S3 has got a 306ppi 4,8 inch SAMOLED Pentile Matrix
Now,which one is better?
2. Let's compare batteries:
HTC One X has got a Li-Po 1800MAh battery
LG Optimus 4X HD has got a Li-Ion 2150MAh battery
Samsung Galaxy S3 has got a Li-Ion 2100MAh battery
Obviously, the best should one the LG Optimus 4X HD and the worst should be the HTC One X. With its 1800MAh,it has also got a Li-Po battery. Is that better than Li-Ion,what do you think?
3. Now,other specs:
Frontal camera is 1,9MP on Galaxy S3,but 1,3 on O4X and One X
One X has no SD Slot(but 25GB of dropbox free space),while Galaxy S3 and O4X yes.
One X has got HTC Sense 4.0,but battery is not removable.
Now,comparing all those things, which one would you choose? I can't make my mind right now.
If you're just gonna root them go for SIII since it's the world's most popular phone.
If not then you gotta look into software, personally, after only seeing a few pictures of the phones, I would say Sense 4 (HTC) Is the best looking UI. Though stock ICS beats them all.
If I was to buy a new phone right now, today, it would probably be Xperia S. Or if it's too tricky to remove the battery, I would consider Xperia Acro S.
HTC sense is horrible in my opinion. I own a galaxy s3 and i could say it's the best phone i ever had, and i owned a huge collection: iphone 3g, 3gs, iphone 4, 4s, HTC magic, HTC hero, galaxy sii , galaxy nexus, galaxy note and galaxy s3
Yeah,I won't buy the Optimus 4X HD. The challenge is now between HTC One X and S3.
I would buy the HTC One X. I found another reason stopping me from buying it: HTC One X has not got menu button, instead of it there is a multitasking button. Obviously it can be remapped to menu button, but how will I do that with non-sense roms? Now,reasons why I would not buy it
Li-Po 1800MAh battery
Non-removable battery
Multitasking button
No sd slot and display, but that ain't important at all now.
I will get informed about the multitasking button. If it's all okay,I might go for it.

Galaxy Nexus or new upcoming Nexus devices!
The HTC has horrendous battery life and a non replaceable battery so if you get caught short on battery you really are stuffed, and if you planning on Rooting there is always the possibility the phone freezes up and since you can't pull the battery you really are in trouble.
