I just got the 4.0 for my son for Christmas. I have tried to move applications that I have installed over to the "USB Storage" but keep getting the error "Not enough memory."
Has anyone been able to do this or is it even possible?

You need to have an external SD card in, it actually moves them to that, not USB storage. It is really bad programming, but that's the way it goes.

I've never had problems with moving apps back and forth from my phone's internal storage to the SD card. But recently, I've noticed that apps I used to be able to store externally (Shazam, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) have the "move to SD" option greyed out, making it impossible to move them off my phone. I'm running stock 2.3.4. I've combed the internet trying to find a fix to this issue, but have found no results so far. I'm contemplating doing a hard reset to hopefully fix this as a last resort if nothing else works... Anyone have any suggestions?
Unfortunately, not all applications support moving to SD card. This is typically because the developer has good reason for not allowing this. For example, apps like facebook that make use of widgets would error every time your SD card is unmounted. Now you may be thinking: "I never take out my SD card so why would this bother me"
However, every time you plug in your phone to a USB port to transfer files such as photos and videos the SD card automatically unmount.
Download App2SD from the market for an easy way to see a list of apps installed on your phone that are programmed to support moving to SD card.
Conclusion: without manipulating your device, there is no way to transfer the apps you've mentioned to an external storage device.

Hmm...that would make sense. But I've had Pandora stored externally on my SD card since I was running 2.3.3 and that has a widget feature as well. I'm assuming that the update to 2.3.4 made it impossible to store apps that have widget functionality to the SD once you move them onto internal storage. Thanks for the help.
Hi can someone please help me out.
i have just inserted a new sd card in my phone,
ive already transferd a few files to it so i no its working.
well im using the application app 2 sd to move apps , well i have apps that it says can be moved but when i click on them there is no option for sd card and also i get a message saying: the device does not have a real primary external storage, or primary external storage is emulated
can someone help me please
anyone? :/
Could be a copy sdcard card, loads kickin around from China
Also why u need a2sd don't u have enough on phone storage?
No it's proper sand disk I think from ebuyer, well I have about 10 apps and I have around 250-300mb left just wanted to free some up as when I install n.o.v.a 3 it's like 2.gb and that installs to whine storage aswell not sd. I think I've read that none if the apps to sd work yet for sgs3 :/

There's plenty of open topics about this. Search for them.
Basically Samsung intended the internal, external cards and dropbox to work as one big storage for all apps, app data and user files... or something like that.
So they disabled the Move To SD option in the app manager. Unfortunately it doesn't quite work like they intended and the external SD is practically useless as most apps (99%) can't read or write to it.
I'm reading around now to see if anything new happened but it's looking grim.
This thread should be closed.
Any updates on this? I still want to move my App Data to the external SD card. In this way my new SGS3 is even worse than my Galaxy Y -.-
as far as I know it does not work with S3. maybe an update coming soon

It works. It requires some handywork though on the shelll.
maybe there will be a noob friendly mod soon for those that want to use .sd card for apps?

I'm just hoping for a custom Rom with App moving, UMS mode and fixed user dictionary so I'm not having to patch up the f**k ups that Samsung made and have it all built in like it should be.

I used Directory Bind App to move my big data esp. game data to my external Sd.It worked perfectly.
bump. having same issue.
My internal storage is full and I need more space. I'm wonder what would happen if I was to move things like apps to my external and then delete them on my internal? Anyone have any ideas on how to get more space without borking something up?

How many apps do you have installed??
Go into settings, Apps.
Click on each app. If the feature is natively avaiable, there will be an option to move to SD Card. Click that.
Otherwise, you can use third party apps like App2SD to move apps to SD Card.
I am actually attempting to nix the INTERNAL memory and dedicate it all to /data for application installs and data storage, and just make my 32GB MicroSD the alternate storage (and actually mounted as /sdcard, seriously, that annoys the ever living piss outta me)... Sadly, its only been done on the International GNote, and the setup seems worlds apart when trying to accomplish it on my AT&T GNote...
Anywho, If I manage to get it working, ill let ya know (if the other certifiably viable options aren't to your liking)
Cheers
Thanks a bunch hammer...I did what you said and it gave me a lot more room, but not enough for now.
Sorry I meant to thank Eugene Hammer, if you do get that working please let me know because to me that would be worth paying for.
Is there anyway to mount the Galaxy S4's SD card as Mass Storage? I don't like using MTP, its too clumsy.
I've searched on Play and found a couple of apps that I thought would work, but didn't. I tried "SG USB Mass Storage Enabler" and "AL Mass Storage Manager", neither of them worked.
The developer of "SG USB Mass Storage Enabler" got it to work for the S3, Note 2, and the S4 for every carrier EXCEPT Verizon. -_-
I guess someone will eventually get it to work for Verizon, but does anyone know of an app or another method that works now?
I do have root, the SD card I'm trying to mount is Sandisk 32 GB.

Just curious, what's clumsy about it? It's functionally superior since the card remains mounted in Android. It is slower, but really, in terms of the steps you take to use it, there is no difference. You plug it in, it shows up in windows, you drag and drop files, you unplug. You may have to choose to exit installer mode depending on the ROM, but you also often have to choose to mount as usb storage as well.

Its slower, yes. This is one of many issues.
I have a lot of macs in my house (trust me I don't like it either) and jumping around from one to another is impossible without the additional software. Yes, I can download it, but I'd rather have the option not to. With the option to mount as Mass Storage, the S4 can play the role of a universal USB stick. It can connect to any computer, regardless of software.
Also, some basic programs (like a folder size freeware I have) will not work with my card unless I take it out of my S4 and insert it using its adapter. This is on windows 7.
I feel like you simply have more freedom with the option to mount as Mass Storage.
Bump
Any ideas at all???

Still nothing???
I've heard a lot of desire for this option specifically for the Verizon S4!
I use a free application, Android File Transfer, to mount my S4 (including SD card) to my Mac, but Samsung Kies has to be uninstalled for it to work. I don't know of a solution for Windows.

It can't be plugged into my car's usb port to play audio directly from the SD card. I know you can use bluetooth, but I like the ease of plug and play.

I did, can you give me a direct link?
Most of the links refer to "SG USB Mass Storage Enabler" which I already stated does not work for Verizon GS4. The dev has not added support for SCH-I545 yet. Stranger yet is the app is now down from Google Play.
Guess Google doesn't like Mass Storage?

hope this helps
also some post ago some one said to use android file transfer,if you have a bunch of macs.and its true i use this for my mac all the time.it works great
Almost a year later...
Is Mass Storage really still not possible? AT&T has it, T-Mobile got it, is Verizon still hopeless?
MTP is a huge step backwards IMO from Mass Storage. It's just way too slow.
Hi guys... is anyone else getting messages about 'Low Internal Storage' on their device? I have 7GB free, but every time I install an app I get a message like this? Any ideas what may be causing it, because I obviously aren't low on storage?!

Well not sure, but isn't there special partition where you install the apps? Meaning if you actually install too many you get this message?
Trying something like APP to SD might fix your problems. I guess you have "few" apps installed right?
Do you have es file explorer installed? I think that is what's causing it on my device. I'm getting it too and it's always wrong

I do and I get these warnings, I havent tried to get it to go under what it says is left though. We should be able to fill our phone with 10GB of games/apps (24GB if you got the 32GB variant), right?
Mmmm...
Thanks for the response guys. I'm glad I'm not on my own. I haven't really got that much installed, and even though I keep getting the message, apps and games keep installing without any issue. As regards ES File Explorer, I do have that installed, but it's set not to show low memory warnings. Perhaps it's just one of those things - it's not causing any problems... yet!
