When I hook up my Prime to my PC, I can see a bunch of the standard directories (Alarms, Android, etc), but a lot of stuff is missing. For instance, I backed up some apps into a 'backups' directory, but I don't see it on my PC. I do, however, see it in file managers such as Astro.
Any ideas? Hopefully I'm just overlooking something simple.

I love HTC phones and the 8929 hands down my FAV. had to use BB for the past 2yrs. Now I got an HTC back in my hands. I was expecting it to be familiar to the tilt but now I feel really stupid.
I can't for the life of me figure out how to load my music (not itunes, that is all the info I can find) or pictures. I don't want an App. I'd like to see my file system or even be able to see the SD card but I can't find it on my puters file system.
So I know this means I am missing something simple. The handbook talks about amazon and mp3 store and the like. i have my own stuff I want.
So, can someone please point me to a link for dummies that will tell me how i can see my SD card and drag and drop my photos, ringtones, and music onto this phone.
I guess BB's media manger got me spoiled, hell even Motorola has great software for this simple stuff. I got the HTC sync loaded on the PC and all contacts loaded up but that is it.
I'm sorry for such a simple question but I'm lost and can't see the phone for the screen! Please help....
Thanks
when you hook it up to your pc a pop up should come up, select disk drive. if it doesnt pop up, slid open the notification tray and click on where it says "charge only" and change it to disc drive. it should pop up on your computer just like if you plugged in a flash stick.
just drag and drop the files onto your sd. the built in music/gallery apps will find the files and display them for you.

Thanks, I did that and your right the files did show. But the files are very different looking when compared to a windows and I didn't see a disk marked "sd card" or any files that look like they were on a sd card. So I stopped. if I move the files am I moving to the card or the phone memory?
Again, this is a very noob question for a forum of this type so Thanks for taking the time to answer. If you know of a stickies or any link where i can learn this system on my own i'd be happy to read it. But an answer would be great to. In any event looks like I have a lot of reading to do. I learned about my 8525 and 8929 from this site so I started here 1st. this site rocks.
Thanks
when you select it to go to "disc drive" it only hooks up the SD card, so no matter what you see in there, odd file folders, temporary files, etc, it's just stuff your apps put in there or you downloaded from the net, etc. not the phone's memory, just the card.
I usually follow the rule of "if I don't know what it is, don't touch it" which is a good creed to live by. sometimes apps just create folders and files on the sd card to free space up on your phone's internal memory. if you delete them, you could loose data for those specific apps, but even if you upped and deleted them all you wouldn't be doing anything that would would cripple your phone, just lose things like game saves, settings for certain apps, nothing you couldn't restore eventually.
anyway, to keep everything good and organized, just once you get it set to disc drive, go ahead and make a new folder called music, one called pictures, video, etc and then dump the files into their respective folder, the phone will pick em up no matter where they are.
When my new Archos 101 spontaneously started deleting my movies and other files, I did some poking around using Astro. When my MicroSD no longer contained my videos, I safely removed it and checked it with a Windows PC. Sure enough, they were gone. I fired up the Archos and poked around Astro again and found that there were several "sdcard" files, though the MicroSD was not installed in the device. There is a /sdcard as well as a /mnt/sdcard. Probably a few other wierd things going on also. Tasker had been directed to use icons from the SD card (which was not installed at this time) and was still able to function. The icons shouldn't have been found by Tasker, as the MicroSD card was not in the device. Where was Tasker finding them?
I figured this was waaaay to crazy and since I haven't done much with the device, I'd reset everything. I did the reinitialization, which advised me that it would take it back to factory settings. I did this with the MicroSD still not installed. Upon completion, the "sdcard" files were still showing up after I installed Astro. I also still had junk thumbnails in the Gallery.
How do I take this back to straight from the factory state?
You sure that Astro is not confusing this with the internal storage of the device?
I get the same thing on my a70. sdcard/, mnt/sdcard/, sdcard/sdcard/. I haven't lost any files, but it's rather annoying. Never sure where anything really is. It looks normal when I mount it with a pc.
I moved over from a G2...did a backup of my apps using App Backup and Restore (free).
Fired up my Amaze, downloaded AB&R and...no archives!
Took about half an hour to figure out what to do...move the AB&R folder to /mnt/SDCard instead of /mnt/ext_sd and I'm good to go.
But now all of my *other* apps - which are expecting stuff on the SDCard folder have forgotten everything they knew.
I would *much* rather have an "int_sd" folder and SDCard be the actual removable sd card.
And I just strange?
No you aren't. I personally find the whole internal storage a nuisance. Especially apps that only write to internal storage and have no option to change. I hate all the spam folders android and apps put on the storage as well.
I'm pretty particular about directory structure and organization on my pc and phones, and stuff like this irritates me.
So I have a motorola photon and when I connect to my PC the full internals are viewable for me.
With my new prime all I see are transfer folders and limited number of internal folders. I cannot see the storage partition of the prime like I can on my Photon. Is there something wrong with my tablet? Do I need a special app? What am I missing here?
The Prime does not mount the SD card as a drive the way you are used to on your Photon. The Prime uses MTP, same as the new digital cameras. This allows you access to your media folders, but not system folders. A quick work-around is to copy the files you want to one of the media folders, then use a file browsing app like Root Explorer to move it from the media folder to your desired location on the internal memory.

Yea I found the thread on ES File Explorer once I figured out the proper terms to narrow down my search to my problem and used that to transfer over my kindle books and the like.
Why can't I hold all these folders?
Sent from my tablet thing with XDA Premium.
I've resorted to using FTP (DroidFTP Pro) in order to get the files where I want them.. MTP is so annoying.
I have a download box that continually seeks and downloads new TV shows, and I like to watch them on my tablet.
What I want to achieve is making my tablet copy and then delete the sourcefile of the new shows my downloadbox deposits in a designated folder.
There are lots of sync apps out there, but as expected, none of them has the option to move files, focusing entirely on mirroring.
This means whenever I delete a show on my tablet after watching it, the sync app would replace it again.
Setting it to both way sync usually results in copying missing files rather then deleting the excess ones.
I have tried setting up an FTP server on my tablet and letting my PC handle all the logistics with a simple batch file,
but this all too often results in corrupted files because the FTP transfer seems to regularly flake out.
Does anyone know of a solution to securely and automatically move files from PC to tablet?
