Is it just me or is anyone else in the UK on ki3 having crap download speeds? (30kb/s dl, ul: 1.5mb/s) I'll flash ki4 tomorrow but I'm still curios, cheers.

your network might have issues.
when i was in UK last week i was getting 1mbps and more download speed on Three Network
now i am in Pakistan i get about 200 to 300 kbps on Telenor network.
try turning off your fast dormancy by *#9900# then reboot
Try kl1 modem it is newest so it might be better
KL1 is the best for me in UK.. got 7.20mbps with vodafone UK

How about searching around a bit.
The Australian thread has heaps of info about modems.
I can tell you that KI3 and KL1 have preformed best for me on Optus using I9100.

I've found that Google search finds me links better than XDAs search so I can understand where you're coming from.

it very much depends on the reception and the coverage, especially in countries like Australia.
i've tried several but there has been no findings.
the best way for you i believe is switching into Telstra
Why telstra?
And I'm in sydney bondi junction

What the he'll are you talking about!?
We were talking about searching xda for answers and links.
My Optus coverage has been awesome and you couldn't pay me enough to go back to Telstra.

It's pretty common knowledge that Telstra have by far the best network in Australia.
Coverage and speed easily out do the alternatives.

It's true though. On average, you're going to get better coverage and data speeds on Telstra than Optus.
Simple reason is that have a better established mobile infrastructure with more mobile towers than any of the competitors.
I was on Optus last year and during peak times (lunch time or after 5pm) it was almost impossible to get a decent internet connection. I couldn't even browse the web. After switching to Telstra, I've had no troubles whatsoever. Even on the train ride home I've got constant coverage and fast data speeds. I watch youtube a lot on the way home and it's never once cut out.
The reason i asked about optus modem firmware is because my internet is crawling to the point it gets disconnected everytime. I'm currently with XXKL1 modem but i see no difference with the speed. I get 1Mb with speedtest.net on average while I used to get between 5 to 7 Mb in Israel with Orange and same phone.

Actually Telstra hits HSDPA+ Vodafone hits HSDPA, while Optus barely hits 3g so yeah just saying. Just use Intratech's post and find one that matches

Optus for me gets H always and a few times H+ and I'm in a rural area not Sydney CBD.
Totally depends on what area etc as to what you get with what carrier. I moved to Optus from Telstra because of better reception in my area.
Some time ago I couldn't get reception with Vodafone but when I went into the outback Vodafone was the best because they spent a fortune on their network to service outback hiways.
Really kl1 should be good on the I9100 but if you have I9100T your better off with one of the modems that came out with that model. All that info is in the modem and aussie threads.

It's pretty common knowledge that Telstra are by far the biggest rip off I've seen anywhere, let alone Australia.
I'll continue to enjoy paying 1/4 of the minimum plan for Telstra, while getting full bars in my house - all while I happen to be in 'another' Telstra blackspot (My parents and friends have no reception anywhere in my house).
They're a joke - if I want 3g connectivity I go for Optus (because of the price difference), when I recently lived in the city I went for 4g Vodafone, all with great coverage/downloads and all far cheaper than the 'alternative'.
Either way, I'm really confused why you posted that when the original post was simply asking for a I9100 modem for a phone on the Optus network...
I'm even more confused as to why you necroed a >2 yr old thread to make a point that's purely subjective/a matter of opinion & a case of YMMV

Really depends on your region to be honest. Preferably use the same modem as the UK ROM (LPQ) but then again, your phone might react better with other modems. For example, I tried LPQ and got horrible data speeds (300-400k/sec). Switched to LP7, I effectively doubled the speeds I had on gingerbread (4500k/sec)
So test them out.. And see which one reacts best for you!
Is there anyway to increase the speed. I am on edge connection. Thanks

Get on a mobile network that this phone fully supports. What carrier are you on? This phone doesn't get better than edge on certain networks. (for example, T-mobile USA)

You should look for carriers who offer the fastest data network speed. I know here in holland, its vodafone. So perhaps you should switch carriers for faster speed. There isnt a other way to increase it.

From what I was able to find though, Mobily DOES use a frequency (WCDMA 2100) that this phone supports.
Did you get the phone brand new? Or used? Are you sure it's an i9100 model phone?

like someone already told you, you should try flashing a different modem (afaik, you can try any sgs2 modem you like, no matter which rom/kernel you are on).

What's your experiences with modems in the UK? I'm on Vodafone and not getting great reception and more often than not stuck on 2G which kinda sucks.
Any advice?
I'm on Omega ROM and just flashed LF5 which has probably been the worst modem of the lot.
Thanks

this says more about voda's 3g coverage to be honest, i havenever had good 3g coverage on voda, then again i have never had what i call good 3g on any phone i have had. Things may improve now the are partnering with 02, network coverage will be doubled in some areas.
I've currently got DXLEA modem. It's nothing special, I get OK signal but hardly ever get above G in terms of network speed
Was fine in my Galaxy S, seems to have gone downhill since I got the S3. I also got it replaced because of pink tint, but the network speed was the same on both handsets
Nele4 that what I'm using on o2 signal is rubbish on the s3 vs s2

Me too on 3G. Fine on wifi.
3 UK network, latest stock ROM but with NELE4 modem (used by 3 in their roms)
On Vodafone UK
iPlayer App tries and fails with every programme on 3G. All fine on Wifi.
iPlayer mobile site tells me to turn on wifi, and that it's only supported on 3 and Vodafone, but not on Android, iPhones or Symbian^3.
iPlayer desktop works fine when browser has desktop mode ticked/useragent changed.

Mine's certainly not rooted.
"About" reports baseband version I9300XXLF2. Is that the info we're looking for?
I just double-checked to ensure that I was testing properly. Wi-Fi definitely OFF, phone reporting H+ data connection. iPlayer streaming fine atm.
it must be a root issue as we have the same handset, network & firmware what is your csc? is it still (H3G)?

OK, I wouldn't expect CSC to be H3G because the handset didn't come from Three network. I just happen to be using it on Three network.
Kies reports PDA:LF2 /PHONE:LF2 /CSC:LF2 (BTU)
I think I'm even more puzzled now. What does the BTU code mean?
Incidentally, the phone was purchased new as sim-free / unbranded / unlocked so if anything about the CSC implies otherwise, I need to know fast ;-)
LF2 BTU is stock UK, we've got the same setup only mines on three UK contract but is unlocked out of the box, I'm thinking my problem is either being rooted or that I flashed LF2 using odin & all my settings from LE8 (H3G) were still intact, maybe I need to do a wipe? I have done a few CSC changes but it keeps reverting to KOR had to resort to manual editing to fix CSC,
