Hi All,
I am just 2days away from ordering my Lumia and I do a check to find my essential apps I used on my android phones.
One BIG app that I rely upon is a SIP client to make voip calls. This is really a deal breaker for me because I call upto 30mins a day internationally and cannot spend a fortune on it. I looked up everywhere and cannot find it for Mango.
Is it possible that I am mistaken, please someone help me with this and find an app that can be configured with a SIP provider like Actionvoip or Freecall.
I hope someone proves me wrong

Don't think it's completely what you require but how about Voxofon?
Hi just saw that app but they are a voip provider with their own app. So you cannot use their app for any voip service.
That's really sad news . Thanks for the help though.
anyone else pleaaaaaaseeeeeeee
there's a Gtalk client I believe...
Reply from Counterpath Bria :-
Currently there is no plan to develop any client for WP7. There are some issues with WP7 platform for VOIP applications (that may be the reason why there are no SIP apps currently).

Oh No. That answers the biggest problem. There is an app called Gchat but I think it is more like a Jabber client which does not have any way to even buy credit from Google and use it for outgoing calls on data
Ok since there is no client available I had to find a work around to do international calls. Only thing that I found worthy of mention was this provider called Rebtel which uses your local calls plus their local access number to make international calls.
I tried it and the voice clarity sounds fantastic. Only that I will need to spend on the local minutes too while I spend some money on their international rates. Even then call rates remain nominal and not something like 30c/min.
I will stick to this until MS brings out the required API for voip. Damn Microsoft come on bring out something. At least Skype so that I can buy credit and call from there
I'm using Freecall with MobileVoip installed from Marketplace, it work fine except the voice is on speaker.

Great advice then. My Lumia arrives tomorrow and I am going to try configuring my SIP settings of Actionvoip.
Meanwhile can you tell me if that speaker voice can be routed into Earphones when I plug it in?
At least that way we can have a good work around and a solution to this problem.
mobilevoip
im using mobile voip app (free from market) with Voip Stunt but the quality is very bad..
I wish there are more apps like Fring, Nimbuzz or Skype. Microsoft promised Skype since september and still hasnt come out yet.
Yeah it is a damm shame. This is the one app that I miss from my Symbian days, I sure hope Microsoft steps up the plate and makes sip clients possible on WP7, preferrably before my next big holiday in october, otherwise I will be forced to take my Nokia N82 as well !

But how is it different?
Here's the idea. Add your Google Voice number to your Friend/Family list. Then use the Google Voice callback app (or use the Google Voice mobile website to set up a call). This will create a phone call that will start with your phone ringing. When you answer the phone, it will then begin ringing your other party. The genius here is that the incoming number on the caller ID is your Google Voice number. No minutes used.
Another bonus is that if you change phone companies, you don't have to change your Google Voice number. Assuming that is the number you are handing out to people, you'll always get calls. Add on to the list superior voicemail, and much better texting and it starts to really shine.
If I am diligent, I can go an entire month using minimal minutes. Since I am sharing minutes, this makes the other users on our plan very happy. =)

It is also helpful for people who would like to split their work life from their non-work life. You can specify conditions to connect a call to a work phone or home phone between specific hours, or you can use one phone with multiple voicemail greetings for different groups of people (family, friends, work, etc.). It lets you screen/block calls from specific or unknown people and send them directly to voicemail. You just have a lot more control over things.
Good point! I had forgotten about those customizations! It is especially amusing to set up a custom voicemail greeting for one specific person. When John calls and it says, "Hey John, leave a message old man!"
Powered by KaosFroyo and the XDA app.
Hey guys. What do you think the best voip app is for this phone? I wanna be able to talk to my brother, who is on T-Mobile, without using minutes. I did try Skype and had issues with it. But that was like 2 months ago. Thanks!

Can't I just use Csipsimple by itself? Or will I incur charges with it?
Csipsimple needs an SIP service, in order to use it. Sipgate is the easiest to setup with csipsimple. There are other services ouy there. Once u download csipsimple, u will have a list of services to use.
Definitely tango!

I was Surprised when she showed me she had a whole New number, she was Able to Text, and whatever else for Free all over WiFi but I guess it was a Trial or something like that? Then you have to Pay, I Think?
Is there Any app like Line2 available where you Don't have to Pay that can be used over WiFi?

How do you use gtalk for voice through a phone?
I am really just interested in voice.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
GB roms support gtalk by default.
However, u can only call other gtalk users.
Thunderbolt, CM7, OKLAHOMA.
If it's just voice, Viber works really well for me, and the quality is stellar. It can be temperamental and drop calls, though, so you will need patience.
Are there any other apps like sipdroid which i can use to make calls through google voice...because with sipdroid its kinda hard for the other person to hear me and the it takes long for the other person to hear me.
Thanks
I use grooveIP , its probably the best app for voip with google voice, it costs five bucks but if you search hard enough on google you could find your self a copy.

There are a lot of guides available that explain how to get sipdroid to work with google voice, typically using 2 sip providers and a forwarding app. I suggest you search internet. GrooveIP is the only simple solution available.
Is there any easy workaround that will allow people outside the U.S. to make purchases from the Amazon Appstore? Amazon currently has GrooVe IP for $1.99.
Sipbri and 3cxsoftphone.
If you get this configured correct and if you are lucky you should be able to make and recieve calls. Except I think you may need a custom rom as I had the stock and it seemed that any voip didn't work for me. Just got a silent call didn't hear anything and they didn't either. If you have gingerbread with a custom rom you don't need voip software as it has it built in. Just I haven't ever got the receiving calls working maybe someone else would have better luck.

Hey,
I want to use whatsapp on my Galaxy player, but i'm unable to do so. I've downloaded it from the whatsapp site and from 4shared, but when I install the app and try to accept the terms and conditions, the following occurs:
"Unable to identify your device, turn out the batteries and reboot."
"Tablets are currently not supported"
But I don't get it, because my friend has a tablet and he is able to use whatsapp, even though he doesn't have a phone number or a prepaid card in it.
So my question is: Has anyone been able to use Whatsapp on their Galaxy player? And if so, could you please be kind to explain how to do that?
Thanks in advance.
I think you have to have a phone#, unless it will work with a Google Voice#. I can't see paying $2/yr for something you can just use GV for (although it does look like it does a lot more). From their site:
Why do you ask for my phone number?
We ask for your phone number because that is how WhatsApp routes chat messages between you and your contacts, similar to how the regular SMS system would. We value your privacy and we have not, do not and will not ever sell your personal information to anyone. If you would like to learn more about our Privacy Policy, please take a look at our Privacy Notice.
I did find this page that might help you: http://planetlotus.org/profiles/mitch-cohen_96419

I have been investigating this matter and this app has the same problem as the XDA App(free version) and Tap Tap Revenge 4. I have created a hack that makes these apps work and I have released a beta of my next rom "Foreigner R5" that has the patch applied. However, this app will not function on the beta for other reasons. When foreigner R5 moves passed beta, this app will work.

first, i wanna say THANK YOU to Meticulus for a fabulous rom. I am using it to my complete satisfaction. Thanks again.
second, i can prove that Viber works on beta R5 so i think half your whatsapp issue is solved, Rapydax. Until R5 comes out, u can use beta R5 with viber - message your buddies and all that + free calls worldwide.
third, google voice isnt available outside US yet.

I was not very clear. Google is going to start charging next year for their calling service, as of now it is free. Whatsapp is only 2 dollars a year, so I am now going to get Whatsapp. I am sure Google will expand to Europe. Just give it time.
not giving "them" time is all this forum is about.
Does Whatsapp let you make/receive calls? I thought it was only texting.
GV has been saying it's going to start charging "next year" for a few years now... if they do I'm sure it will be very cheap, and hopefully they won't start until all the bugs are worked out, and other countries can participate.

Not google. Voicemail of your provider!
I already look for that.
I dont think you can.
Voice mail is the best choice you have.
some japanese android phones(like my sh-12c) have build in answering machine , not sure but maybe someone already made some good port !?
u can set the answering machine time when to pickup and to 3 different modes (normal, drive and manner)
there is an example video http://app-coming.jp/ja/articles/detail/64
i really love this function and miss this on my galaxy note T_T
dbaf14
Yes that would be great i used to have this on my Simbian phones voice mails are recorded straight to your device
someone attempted this on windows mobile but not Android yet (perhaps to many restrictions )
I was also looking for this type of application recently. Used to love this on my symbian but was shocked when i realised this had not been done fro droid as yet.
Is there a reason why it seems "impossible" on Android? Many of us have to PAY for voicemail and PAY with our minutes for retrieving voicemail!
And to those who would replay that this is a legal/privacy issue (like I've read elsewhere), I say, why should I trust my voicemail to my phone company or, God forbid, to Google?
Ridiculous omission
I want the same thing for my Note2, and for my S2 before that. It is a complete joke that Android does not have it built in. It is one area where Symbian is superior to Android. At the moment my only options are to have my provider turn off voicemail and refuse all messages, or to have them pile up which is incredibly inconvenient - if I have a meeting with somebody and they leave me a message there is no way I can go through a dozen messages to get to the latest one (especially without pen and paper to hand). Not to mention my provider does not even give me the phone number of the person that left the voicemail.
I've been waiting years for a simple voicemail app. It's pathetic one hasn't appeared. Even my Sony Z5 had it over a decade ago.

BTW we even had a software to set up an IVR on our phone in symbian
Count me in, I tried a couple of apps... They don't work quite as you expect though
+1 for answering machine app.
Sadly, I don't think it's an option on regular Androids due to either hardware or programming constraints. Doubt it's due to lack of user interest.
Hmmmm, maybe it's conspiracy by telco provides so they can rake in more $$$$.? (reaches for tin foil hat)
Again, for the benefit of the head scratchers out there ... Voicemail is NOT a free god given right to all phone users in the world. It costs money with some service providers. Hence the desire for "in phone" answering machine application.
hullo mail is a voice mail app that I use. It works in Ireland, the UK and America I think.
