I had to upgrade my cell phone at Verizon yesterday and they talked me into getting a smartphone, so I got the newly released Pantech Breakout. It runs Gingerbread 2.3.3 and I was wondering can it be rooted? Has it been rooted? If it's not been rooted yet by someone, are there any chances that it will be since it's a low to middle-end phone? I tried Gingerbreak on it and left it running all night and all it did was stay stuck on the Rooting screen.
I need it rooted so I can replace the wpa_supplicant file and be able to connect to my ad-hoc network here at home.
Thanks for any help.
I'm curious too. Everything I've read says it can't be (yet). But I'm still searching. So far gingerbreak and superoneclick don't work =/
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Bump! Also, are there plans to have a dedicated sub-forum for this device?
Thanks
Thanks for the replies all.
@ lucf Sorry for posting in the wrong forum. I'm new here and there are so many categories.
Does anybody else have this phone? If so what do you think about it? I think it's pretty awesome minus no flash and slower processor.
Yeah.....any luck with the root?
I am using right now. Not sure about root, being that I will only have it for a week or so.. its pretty nice and $49 on contract at bby isn't bad.. I am pretty sute the processor is the same as the thunderbolt processor.. the ram is less however.

No luck with the root yet, hoping someone will figure out how to do it soon, haha. I don't even know where to start or I'd look into it myself.
Did u guys know that this phone will do data and voice at the same time. Even on straight 3g.??

I'm getting this phone sometime next week. I hope it becomes popular enough that somebody might try for root on it. Every where I look more and more people are picking this phone up for cheap LTE.
When I get it I'll see what I can do, but this may require a whole new root method.
I hope to see root soon! I am sick and effing tired of seeing my wife futz with the stupid system apps autoupdating themselves and taking up precious app memory!

I have had the phone for a few days now and love it for the most part. You are right though, you have to make sure you move new apps to SD or the mem fills up fast.
I got it for free through TigerDirect, so I am not complaining too much. lol.
I keep 4g turned off unless I am surfing or using the Market etc and that VASTLY helps the battery life. Also loaded Launcher Pro to get rid of the stock UI.
All things considered, I think this is a good little phone for the price. Rooting would REALLY let it shine though, IMO.

Good to hear and welcome.
Feel free to root your phone and flash a custom rom.
Few things first.
There is no way to s-off your phone at this time. We're working on it though.
No ETA.
NEVER ask for ETA's from developers! Since most don't like it we try to encourage others not to even ask.
ALWAYS search and read the forums before posting a new thread or even posting a reply in a thread. This will keep you from getting flamed.
Once you get a decent amount of knowledge and experience please share and contribute with the community. That makes my job (as moderator, not 24/7 tech support) a lot easier.
Enjoy!
Thanks! I dont plan on rooting/custom roming for about another month, ill take my time to warm up to understand what S-Offing is and what not. I do know my cousin bought an HTC Amaze to which he installed custom roms/kernels. I am not very demanding so i do not mind. Stock rom is ok, and i hope to see the development grow for this phone as its pretty new

This phone is being released for Virgin Mobile and Sprint. I think it needs a forum. Thanks.
I agree. It looks like good device. Got one for my wife and may be getting one for myself. Oh, and just FYI, the CPU is clocked at 1024mhz. This has been confirmed with Quandrant Standard, Antutu Benchmark, and CPU Monitor.
Agreed!
I just purchased one and so far am quite impressed! I like the small size too!
Bump for the forum
bump.
Another bump for the request, love mine.
I have the Elite as well. Really digging it and hoping to see some dev action for it. I am missing titanium backup a lot.

BUMP...this phone NEEDS support....Please!!!!
Really liking this phone, I would like to see some support for this phone as well.
Bump for forum.
I am sure once root is found for it, a forum will be created! Let's hope so anyways. Just upgraded from the Optimus V and and very happy with it so far!!
Yeah way better than my opti S. This phone has potential!

Hope this happens soon. I've been busy rooting my friends phones but can't get mine done. Need to get into those programming classes so I can do this myself.
Root work going on at android forums I believe. Dunno the status however. hope this happens soon, missing cm9
Bump. Almost a month since first request...
A root is now live courtesy of jcase at android police.
I simply helped out with the flashing as well as finding the MSL.
The MSL can be found by first doing ##DATA# then entering two false spcs, letting it restart, then going through QPST Memory Debug via download mode (hold down the volume rocker then plug the usb cable in)
getting regions (in specific you need to look at ebi0_cs0.bin) and look near HEX offset 07496A80. You can assume that you will need to pull it many times if the garbage writes over valid numbers.
A much more layman explanation is listed over at android central but I don't go there anymore and no longer wish to provide support. Once bitten, no thanks.
It seems xda is a much more developer/tech geek friendly site and I sincerely hope they will consider the Optimus Elite as a good phone for development.
I also would like to see a forum for this one. I just replaced my wife's Optimus V with an Elite and was pretty impressed with the little phone when setting it up for her. I may look at getting one myself when my contract's up. For the price and monthly cost it is a fantastic package.

Hi everyone!
Anyway, my name's Wolf (that's what people call me) but my username is Bad-Wolf, obviously.
So, I got this phone for my 13th birthday. Best present ever. Never gotten anything like it. I used to have a HTC Wildfire S, but unfortunately, it got stolen. Link in the description. So I was left without a phone for a few months, depressed, and angry. And I was inactive on XDA for all those months. It felt like I lost my place here. I was quite known in the WFS forum, and I even developed a simple ROM, but I'm not going to name it because if I want to make a ROM here then I want to use the name again. I was also (trying) to make a simple kernel, but then it got stolen so there was no point. I'm quite a noob by the way.
So, I'm going to be here for quite a while, looking at threads and learning. Which is going to be really difficult because there's like a million threads. So if there's anything you think I should see, please tell me.
I applied to be a mod quite some time back, but I didn't get accepted. But I was informed that I would've got the job, because my application was awesome, but they're keeping me for reserve, and I might get picked if they need mods soon.
Also, let's talk about my (social group) TDOT. Which stands for "The Devs of Tomorrow". This was a group that I made a few months ago, and now is growing, and has 50+ members. It's for kids like me who like developing, or want to get into it. I'm currently making the website, and we're still working. But it's a great group, with great people.
I suppose the only work I've done with Galaxy phones is I quickly rooted and unrooted my Mum's Samsung Galaxy S, and I nervously put stock ICS on my Dad's Galaxy S2, using Odin. I was really scared, because I had never used Odin, I didn't want to brick it, and it was my first flash on that phone (after like 100 on the WFS, lol).
I've heard about all the Apple v Samsung v HTC drama. Apple has had a truce with HTC apparently. And I've heard of Samsung jigs, read a bit about them. They do something like force the phone into download mode or something, very useful for resetting the flash counter, and other stuff like that. Also, they can get you out of bricks, if you got a bad situation, maybe even a USB brick (not sure about it).
I want to learn as much as possible.
That's all I can remember to say for now (I'm forgetful). Anyway, I hope I can make good friends here, like I did on the WFS section, and maybe get into the small developing scene.
Sorry if this thread isn't in the right place. Sowwy. So I made up for it by writing all this!

Hello, aleays nice to see new young devs, I hope you feel at home with us
To root you will want to flash cf root in odin to do this dowbload the package, extract the zip once (it includes odin).
Put the phone in download mode, open odin and end all kies processes, connect the usb and odin should say added. Click the pda button and add the .tar file that was in the zip, make sure repartition is NOT checked and click start when it reboots you will be rooted.
To reset the binary counter use the triangle away app either on play store or free on xda.
I'll add links when I'm on my laptop until then search and thou shall receive

Thanks guys. you lot are nice. I thought I'd get spammed saying things like "So what if you brick it" or "Look it up yourself". Anyway, I'll do some more reading. Then I'll get my game face on.

Hi all, I just received this gently-used SGH-I527 as a gift. This phone replaces an old Galaxy Nexus phone that has run its course for me. For Android phones, I've had nothing but the Nexus experience (and in the last eight months of the Galaxy Nexus, Cyanogenmod 11). I'm a little disappointing to read that this phone's bootloader hasn't been cracked yet (or as some suspect, never will be). However, I did discover the phone was rootable using Kingo ROOT, so I proceeded to do that because the phone still has Jelly Bean 4.2.2 on it.
I don't really care about Kit-Kat. But I certainly wouldn't mind unbloating it as others have done now that it's rooted. The TouchWiz UI is pretty corny compared to what I'm used to, but I guess I can get used to it.
Since I'm unfamiliar with TouchWiz, can someone give me a clue of some good candidate apps to delete and HOW? The phone's already rooted. I just need to know what and how to delete worthless crap. They all show up in the Application Manager under "All", but when I tap on one there's no option to delete it.
Also, I'm getting a notification that says, "AT&T Software update", Version V42_1_1307_1_2. I'm scared to proceed with this update because I do NOT want to spoil the phone with any upgrade that would risk my losing root access and control. Plus I've read Kit-Kat is laggy on this phone compared to Jelly Bean, so I'd rather have speed and performance over "new features" of Kit-Kat.
If there's already a guide for any of this, I apologize for not having discovered it yet. Thanks all!

Whoa whoa......slow down.
Dont go removing so fast. Many have deleted many vital OS files that way, brick in device.
Consider Titanium Back-up. TiBu will allow you to freeze the bloat first. You will then see if freezing will affect your operating system before removing. Others had deleted and the found out too late.

Easy man, it's not a crime to quote someone here. I am not targeting you, nor am I even aware that I quoted you before.
If you are helping someone out, that's great. But you offered no explanation as to what you were linking or how it would help. You did not offer any explanation of your experience with the app. No, you probably aren't required to, but do you know this other persons experience level?
I read all these Q&A questions as if the person on the other end is a newbie.
Do you want someone to just blindly do what you say and then brick their device? Or render it useless?
Of course you dont. Again a simple explanation of maybe your experience with the app would have done that.
I am not targeting you, I have got better things to do. I just know that not everybody is the same knowledge level here and people ( at least I do ) want to feel confident in what they are doing .
I know I don't want to be responsible for some bodies brick.
I only quoted you because that's what I wanted the OP to pay attention to.
Relax my friend.

well i understand your point and i apologize if I misunderstood you. the app i recommend is very simple to understand and use. it tell you what you can delete and what you can't delete it also automatically make a backup of anything you delete in case you delete something needed for the system and have the ability to restore whatever you delete or remove from the system.
