This is just a link to CM9 over in the OG GS2 Developer forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410400
THIS IS NOT NOOB FRIENDLY
IF YOU HAVE TO ASK, YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T BE DOING THIS.
MAKE A BACKUP THROUGH CWM
Download the ODIN files from the linked thread
Copy Google Apps and Face Unlock zips to SD Card
Reboot into Download mode
Flash the ODIN files (warning::: this flashes a ICS bootloader) -- Edit, try without flashing bootloader first. It's safer.
Reboot into Recovery
Flash Gapps and Face Unlock zips
Do a factory reset (yes, AFTER installing everything)
Reboot
Set up your phone
Reboot again
PLAY AROUND FOR A WHILE
Restore backup to go back to whatever you were using before
If something confuses you, this probably isn't for you and you should wait for a i777 version of the ROM to be availible (it won't take long, please wait and save all of us from DIS ROM BRICK MAH FONE threads).
Things that don't work:
Everything listed on the CM9 Alpha page +
Home Button = Back Button & Back+Search buttons do not work
Phone does not work (and flashing the RIL in the CM9 thread will not fix this == it's a kernel problem)
This isn't my work, I'm linking and providing instructions on how to flash an ALPHA ROM. The phone DOES NOT work!
I'm not affiliated in anyway with Team Hacksung or Cyanogen.
You don't have to flash the ODIN files, just use the CWM zip he provided.

You must have already had an i9100 bootloader.. the install script he provides with his cwm release specifically looks for the model number.. flashing i777 roms don't so you may not have noticed up until mnow.
Just remove the first two lines in the script and it won't check.
edit: I've always been very careful and have never flashed any bootloaders on this phone. Just to clarify I didn't have to edit the script on this one though, but i have on others in the past.

Sorry should have explained better, i was running an i9100 port at the time. That's why i didn't need to edit the build.prop. And to answer your question just remove the first two lines, you'll see once you get it up in notepad.
Pretty cool, seems to be running on my phone, cetainly just something to play with, not really too functional overall as far as any kind of Daily. Thanks for the link.

There were changes to the bootloader from froyo to gingerbread on the i9000 that the rom depends on, so one can assume there to be similar bootloader changes. It's probably best to wait for Atin to give us some proper information and/or a build for the i777 after the holidays.

I just flashed using the latest CWM package and it worked happily for me no problems at all. It is kind of interesting. I like ICS and can't wait until they get all the bugs sorted out when some new leaks happen.

superuser in stock dump?
@shabbypenguin,
I was reading through your AIO root thread and it occurred to me that I had rooted prior to extracting the system dump that is posted in op as "Stock". Therefore, there is a version of superuser present in /app that I assume may not have been there as delivered. Of course, I may be making an incorrect assumption.
Is it appropriate then to call this stock, or is it a given that rooting would have been necessary to perform the dump in the first place?
I also don't know if this would affect your deodexed version?
Just wondering if this fact needs to be mentioned somewhere, unless I just did.

First off, thanks for all your efforts to provide us with this...
Second, root is a requirement for the dump and so even with the Superuser app, what you supplied is most definitely stock.
Unless of course you deleted anything in /system/ prior to the dump...

This is simply a stock from from the Photon's "sister," the Electrify. No one has even identified if there are any benefits/improvements hidden inside this ROM, much less how compatible it is with the Photon.
Just because something IS flashable doesn't mean you SHOULD flash it. OP was very clear - this is for devs only, not public consumption. If you don't know enough, then you're better off exercising some patience and waiting for further announcements.
actually im gunna guess that the man has an electrify and my cwm script is busted
I would venture to guess that you guys will have the same issue we do with the photon roms. As other members on my team verified that root, recovery, kernel and unlock work from the photon. The kernel needed wifi fixed which was pretty simple. In which I pm'd shabby about earlier. The roms also work but some things need fixed to get it working.
I don't know all the details besides what weasel told myself. But mms, 3g I believe works but going back to stock it wouldn't, eri says sprint, blur e-mail fc's and activation for sprint kept popping up to where you have to skip it. Weasel has fixed most of the stuff in the homebase port. I believe e-mail still fc's and mms is still broke.
But here is the first deodex rom weasel and myself did if you want to add it to the first post. http://2fastroms.com/viewtopic.php?f=116&t=265
Then here is the kernel shabby did with wifi fixed ready to install. Only rc-1 since wifi was broke in rc-2. If the electrify people want to install it just grab it from shabby's thread. There was reports of 3000's+ in bench's. Not sure of rom it was on but I would venture to guess our stock rom. http://2fastroms.com/viewtopic.php?f=118&t=334
Then here is the port for homebase weasel is playing with http://2fastroms.com/viewtopic.php?f=116&t=268 if you guys wanted to look at it.
i would gather a lot of frameworks issues, as with services.jar would happen between the phones.
edit: you keep saying you fixed wifi. but the only way to fix it, is by rebuilding the modules using my config file.. which only i have...
unless im missing some other way to replace it?
hello all,
i have followed entropy512's thread here to get my at&t samsung galaxy s2 rooted with stock settings...i then wanted clockworkmod recovery so i went to this and followed directions to get everything installed...everything was ok and working until a few weeks ago when the 'Check Update' option under Setting stopped working...
basically what happens is when i goto Settings-> Software Update->Check for updates->Hit OK (Check the AT&T server for new software update?) a dialog comes up that says 'Checking for software updates...' and nothing happens...i have left the phone over night with device management app checking for software updates... when this used to work, it took less than 1 minute to check...
finally, the only way for me to stop this is to go and force stop Device Manager under Applications->All, so before i restore the phone to factory, i was wondering if anyone knows what might be the issue here?
Thanks,
FI

OTA updates require factory recovery. I'm a bit hazy on the details but I believe CWM, in short, replaces that.
It might also be because you either turned off/uninstalled or inadvertently removed factory bloatware.

This. Amongst other things. If u insist on trying to eventually upgrade to whatever crap gets pushed out to us yer best bet is to do a full wipe to completely stock firmware.

once again, the issue is not weather i should worry about updates or not nor did i search for if i should worry about updates...this option was working and something happened that caused it to stop working...and my searches i did was around getting device management to connect to the dm server (which is where the 'Checking for update' got stuck)

Do you recall all the issues with UCKK6 Gingerbread? That was an AT&T release. The devs had to tear it apart to debug and try to fix it. Any build will have bugs in it. But generally, custom firmwares will have fewer bugs than AT&T firmware.

if my research that i conducted a while ago is right, then basically samsung has implemented a flash counter which increments each time you flash a custom, non-stock rom...it might also be applied to non-stock kernels/firmwares as well (im not too sure)...so to prevent the flash counter from ever incrementing, ill need to put the phone in download mode using the jig and continue from there...

This is wrong. It is only incremented when you use ODIN to flash nonstock items. CWM has no bearing on flash counters.

You have some bad information...but I have some good news for you.
The flash counter only counts the number of times you've flashed a custom kernel in download mode via Odin. Using CWM to flash anything can't touch the flash counter. Same goes for Mobile Odin. I've been rooted and flashing for months, I don't have a jig, and my counter is still at zero.
EDIT: Ninja'd by a pirate!

Any GB issues only surfaced if you updated to 2.3.6. 2.3.4 for a "stock" firmware was pretty awesome. I'm on the latest ICS leak from ATT (LD4) and aside from the emmc bug (I'm using a safe kernel so I don't have it) IMHO its more complete then CM9 was. I stopped using CM9 at the end of May and don't miss it at all now.

I remember there being at least one in the roll up sticky thread.
I thought you didn't need to unlock or even root since the leak is signed by HTC?
1. Title is misleading. You are trying to guide someone through installing a custom ROM on the resound, title makes it sound like you are installing a stock ICS leak ROM.
2. You should never flash a kernel before the ROM. Chances are you will give yourself bootloops that since you haven't even installed a custom recovery or dev unlocked yet, you would have to do a factory reset in the stock bootloader to get out of.
3. You need to specify the difference between being on stock GB or one of the ICS leaks. I see you partially mention it, but it needs to be in more detail that you have to know which hboot you are running, since the ICS hboot changed the mount points of the storage.
4. I recommend that this either be cleaned up or deleted. A xtreme noob would probably only be more confused by this guide.

Excuse me. I failed pretty hard at some points in this xD It was fairly early in the morning. But I did this and it seemed to work fine for me. I installed the kernel via Bootloader and deleted the file off my SD card (put SD card into computer and deleted) then flashed Amon-Ra , did the root, cleared the cache and loaded the Rom. I wish it could just be that easy to explain :/

Hi there
-I'm on AT&T using a SGH-i777
Right now, the Android version is 2.3.4
Kernel Version is 2.6.35.7
Not sure if all of that stuff is relevant, but hopefully it helps.
I'm very new to flashing, rooting, and all that good stuff in general, but today I attempted to follow a guide in attempt to put CWM on my phone, and then I would use CWM to flash Cyanogenmod 9 on it next. Being the complete noob that I am, I only realized too late that the Kernel provided in the guide was for the GT-i9100, and not the SGH-i777. Right now, the phone will boot up into Android, but displays the GT-i9100 and a yellow warning sign at the boot loader before launching into android. So far, I've not noticed any adverse side effects due to mis-flash, other than it being, you know, the wrong kernel. I've rebooted into CWM, and so far I believe that works, but I'm honestly not sure where to go from here.
The guide I followed was: *Can't post links as this is my first post, but it was on the cyanogenmod wiki, titled as, "Samsung Galaxy S II (AT&T): Full Update Guide"*
The kernel I installed was named: "codeworkx's Kernel with the ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.3"
So essentially what I'm wondering here, is where should I go from here? I was thinking I could flash a new kernel on my phone, but I think I only got lucky here and didn't brick it, so I'm hesitant to follow random guides I get from Googling without someone with experience thumbs-upping it for me. I'd still like to put Cyanogen on my phone, as the official ROM(Right terminology?) that was pushed from AT&T sucks and lags while opening messaging and the like, and unless anyone would be willing to recommend another, better ROM, then I'll probably go with it once I get this worked out.
Thanks in advanced

Thanks in advanced

yes your lucky u didnt brick as far as i know that would usually do the trick....the only thing i can think of is starting from scratch. go into the development forums for our phone and there is a simple process to restore to stock and start over but someone here might know a little more but thats what i would do honestly
What makes you think it was a GT-I9100 kernel? From the name, I'm pretty sure what you flashed is the codeworkx CWM kernel for the I777. The boot screen that says GT-I9100 and has the yellow warning triangle would appear any time you flash a custom kernel using Odin or Heimdall. If you had installed a kernel which is actually for the I9100, you would not be able to use all of your capacitive buttons. You should be able to flash the firmware of your choice using recovery from your current setup.
Oh man, do I feel dumb or what?
Thanks for the quick help, I really wasn't lying when I said I was a noob at this!

Everyone is a noob at some point. You'll learn!! Don't let yourself get discouraged.
Go to the main SGH-I777 forum and check out the stickied threads to get a good baseline of knowledge.

You can remove the gt-i9100 and yellow triangle with triangle away found in forums ( would post link but not sure where it is all you have to do is search) but be warned this can have adverse effects I never experienced any but that doesn't mean you wont .

u trip the counter! on GB u need a jig to reset that counter for ICS theres an app for that.
anyway since u already got CWM then u can start flashing ROMs & afaik CM9 is still in nightlies or not as stable yet for our device. u can try other ICS ROMs which are more stable, like SHOstock or Semi, its your choice.

They changed the name to I777 because there are two at& t galaxy s2's (one being the skyrocket) that's why it only shows cm7

that figures, they coulda made it more clear that the other is for that damn skyrocket or even have the model number in it. good thing i hold out on CM7 coz i wouldve flashed that wrong one & potentially brick my device. thanks for the clarification.
to the OP- sorry i kinda got out of topic here

Since I haven't seen any other threads on this topic, I figured I'd go ahead and get the ball rolling for anybody interesting in building a custom ROM. As the title suggests, this is a completely deodexed system image for the latest firmware update we recently received.
Just to clarify, this is a (mostly) stock base, and is intended to serve more as a foundation/starting point for anyone looking to build their own ROM.
I took the liberty to update all applications to their newest/current version and preinstalled busybox, which should save everyone a considerable amount of time and data. I also removed about a dozen or so apps that don't serve any beneficial purpose to the phone, but I will still include them in the download link for anybody that wants them for whatever reason.
You will obviously need to be rooted in order to flash this through recovery, so unfortunately if you are one of the unlucky souls that lost it with the update, you'll have to wait for a custom tot to surface before you can flash this.
I've been running this image for the last couple weeks or so and haven't encountered a single issue, but you should still make a backup of your current setup prior to flashing just to play it safe.
Nothing special needs to be done when flashing it, just the standard factory reset along with SuperSU and you should be good to go. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and hopefully you like it!

hope this gets the ball rollin on ROMs. thanks so much! I have been having a few issues w/ the fluence patch..but not that many. but i know a custom made app for our phone would be way better. to get rid of all t-mo bloat.

I'm pretty sure it isn't flashable (correct me if I'm wrong) once it is flashable, I'll probably throw something together (TeamSPR ROM)

I may be wrong but this one sounds like an image. Am I correct ? There are stock folder based roms available that can be used as a base.

Where!?!
Does this Rom offers the new radios and other new stuff from 10D and would I be able to revert back to 10a without any issue like on the other methods?

Yes, for simplicitys sake I chose to use an image in the zip instead. Not knowing if anybody would even be interested in this, it seemed like the logical route to take. Though you might have found other ROMS that are directory based for our phone, I doubt you've found another that's already predeodexed for you. Its also extremely simple to extract this image into the filesystem that you're looking for, but not the other way around.

I'll download the ROM, debloat it, add SuperSU to the meta-inf and stuff then you can do those tweaks you were telling me about.

Sounds good, I'll modify and flash in a few and send you what I have that way you can modify it as well.
Flashed this yesterday and have had no issues since. Pretty solid. Thanks!
Got a question. So I'm rooted and on 10a. I can flash this without any problems? Can I use the twrp app or should I boot into recovery? Thanks.
