I'm using samsung galaxy ace and recently i've officially updated to gingerbread.
I was able to select a particular word in a double click when i was using froyo, but now after upgrading to gingerbread this is not working, instead the stylus stands at the particular place on which we clicked. Someone please help me out.
unfortunately that feature is no longer available in gingerbread but you can "click" the blue mark below a word and then click one of the two options which will appear.

I have a problem with my Vibrant that drives me crazy! I have a rooted Vibrant with the 2.2 update. Here's what's up:
If I am typing a text to someone and type "yu" instead of "you" it changes "yu" to "Yu", as if I was saying an Asian name. I want it to change "yu" to "you"...how do I do this? There is no user dictionary option on the Vibrant so I downloaded one off the market but it was no help.
Thanks!

I asume you are using swype . To remove a word double tap the incorrect word then spell out the word you actually want . Next time it should use the correct word.

I am not using Swype...I'm using the Android keyboard. I tried what you said but there is no way to double tap the word...long tapping saves it, and double tapping doesnt work because the first tap puts the word into the text field.
Anyone else have a suggestion!?!?
Hi, I'm not sure if I have an issue, or am just being dense.
I cannot work out how to select/copy/cut text on my GS2. I am on 4.0.3 XXLPB with Simplistic ROM RC7. I also am using Swiftkey X, however the same thing happens with the stock keyboard.
On GB if I tapped the cursor the little menu came up asking if I wanted to select a word or all text. Now I just get a menu with 'paste' and 'clipboard'. Tapping the menu softkey does nothing.
Can anyone help?
In ICS 4.0.3 stock kernel... a long press of the text brings up the choices in the top notification area... e.g Tick is for selecting text...there is also an option to share it... etc etc
Hmm that doesn't happen on this rom unfortunately. I'd ask a question in the rom thread, but I'm not allowed to yet

I had also some issue but finally it worked.

Hi,
I have the same problem - after upgrade to ICS 4.0.3 select/copy/paste functions are not availabe.
could you share how did you solve this problem?
Thanks in advance
same problem, my version is XXLPS and using swift key
It only shows paste and clipboard. no option to select text...
You just need to double tap on any word and it will give you the option to select, also it will display a ribbon on the top with the copy/cut option
I've just installed Ultimatum beta 4 (and now I see RC1 is out) and so far haven't gotten alternate keyboards to work. I prefer Swype or FlexT9, and I go into Settings->Language and input to change my keyboard. While I can select FlexT9, the Android keyboard can't be unselected (it's selected and greyed out). When I go to type something I have to use the Android keyboard.
(I would've posted this in the Ultimatum thread in the development forum but I follow the advice about searching forums first and have only needed to post three times previously)
You should be able to pull down the notification when typing and you can switch.
Post some screenshots of settings.
When I type an email, there's no dialog or notification to pull down.
I've attached a screenshot.

D'oh! Should've caught that before.

Hello People,
I would like to know how to swiftly change the input method without going to settings?
(Yes, I have searched and there is another similar thread here. I tried that method but it doesn't work).
I have Swype Beta (the new one) and SwiftKey3 along with the original android keyboards / input options..
So one way to change is to go to the settings and change the input method from there.
But I would like to know if there is a way to quickly change without going to settings? Say, from the SMS window or the browser text input field etc...
Previously I remember the long press on the text input field used to bring up input options - But nothing happens now when long pressing.
Another thing - I do see this keyboard icon in the notifications bar on the top but when I click on that the pop up window with the different input options just blinks and disappears. It doesn't stay and let me chose an input option.
So can someone please tell me how to get this done?
Thanks in advance.. Cheers.
If you're on ICS, by default you get a notification to select input method whenever you use your keyboard (the one you mention in your post). It worked fine for me in stock ROMs and it's currently working fine for me with CM9.

Thanks...
I 'see' the notification at the top in the notification bar but when I pull the bar down and click on 'select input method', there is a pop up window that pop's up and disappears almost the next millisecond.. So basically it just blinks.. So at the moment, the only way I can change the input method is by going through the settings... So basically I can't do anything with that notification at the top....
I don't know if this is some issue with Go Launcher and pop up window / notification settings (I am trying to check from that perspective as well as posted a link to this thread in the official Go Launcher thread here on XDA)..
Update:
I have tried to remove Swype Beta and SwiftKey 3.. but still the problem remains! The pop up window (brought up by clicking the select input method notification) doesn't stay..
I have no idea where the problem lies.. It would be nice if someone can help me out with this.
Thanks in advance.
Edit
Please see here
The issue was because of Go Launcher!!
Hello All,
I upgraded the GMail app on my One to the latest version and I noticed that there is no longer a 'Settings' button on the menu bar. On other phones (i.e Samsung S3 or S4) you could press the Menu soft button on the phone and click SETTINGS but the One doesn't have the soft key for Menu. I've attached an image of what I'm referring to. I know this it the old version, but just used it for reference.
Any idea how to get to Settings in the Gmail app now?

Yup. I'm having this dilemma too. Either I am stupid, of a very stupid design by google.

So turns out this isn't really Google's fault, it's HTC's. Somehow HTC decided to design this wonderful phone but not include a Menu button. I don't know how this got by designers and approved by HTC but it's a negative for The One, IMO. Don't get me wrong I love the phone, but this is plain silly.
So, in order to get your 'Settings' back (and any other 'menu' function) in the gmail app, you need to install a ROM that has an option to modify one of the soft keys to for 'Long Press = Menu". I personally am using CleanRom. This let's me use a long press on the 'Home' button to activate the Menu options. This will work with any other app on the phone also.
