Does this specifically unlock the updated HTC View on Honeycomb?
Thanks
I just did this process on my View. I had not previously rooted and took the Honeycomb OTA update, after I was done unlocking the bootloader it reset my whole system to stock(with HC) I wasn't expecting it to do that, but I guess I am now unlocked and ready to root.
Sort of, you have to remember that you won't able to flash radios at all or flash kernels from recovery this way. You'll have to flash kernels over fastboot or from a booted android system.
Also unless the OP can come back with complete details of this recovery I recommened not flashing it, but extracting the one in the mini-ruu in the S-OFF thread. I see a couple of options in there which either won't work or could be incredibly destructive and I don't know if this recovery will support off-mode charging. I don't want people to get stuck in "battery brick" status, that is not fun.
Anyone get this when trying to unlock?? It doesn't give me an error code so I don't know exactly what went wrong.
We're sorry, but it appears your attempt to unlock the bootloader on this device has failed. This could be caused by several factors including simple errors in the entry of the unlock token, problems with your device, or a lack of manufacturer support for the unlocking process. Please see the specific error code listed below, and try again if necessary.

nearly every time I've seen someone get that it's because they pasted the wrong information into the webpage, either too much or too little text,it has to be exactly what the instructions say to copy and paste.

Put the file in the root of your SD card
connect via usb
command > adb reboot bootloader
select fastboot
it will ask if you want to upgrade, select yes.
done.
I couldnt get the key combo to work to force the bootloader so I had to go via adb.

Yes, there is only one option available for hboot 1.5. hboot 1.5 and software update 2.08 patched previously used exploits by the alphrevx/unrevoked team which produced revolutionary.
i don't think they're looking to invest time/labor into developing new exploits to bypass the protection on the device when the manufacturer has released a fairly decent unlock method. unfortunately, it takes quite a bit of work and knowledge to bypass the bootloader locking mechanisms on these devices.

yea. the only thing to keep in mind is that the htc unlock method unlocks write access to all partitions, as other android devices, except the kernel (boot partition).
there are only two modes of operation where htc unlocks the boot/kernel partition. normal android mode and fastboot mode.
in order to flash a kernel, my application Flash Image GUI, works very well from normal android mode. it will load both the kernel and the wifi drivers preventing wifi error issues many users run into.
I also have a few guides at the bottom of my OP for Flash Image GUI specifically for hboot 1.5 users.
in order to flash a kernel using fastboot, the proper way/correct command is: fastboot boot c:\recovery.img . this will load the custom recovery in a special temporary fastboot mode where it has write access to the kernel.
there are lots of guides avaiable on step by step approaches to using this method.
normal recovery mode does not have write access to the kernel. this confuses many people new to the device.
hope that helps! good luck!

Yes, there are multiple ways to flash the recovery.
My app, Flash Image GUI, saves some time and headache from having to deal with fastboot, but were aren't able to completely remove the necessity of using fastboot, at least for booting custom recovery to backup/restore completely. Yes, you're able to flash the custom recovery using my application, as well as by using the fastboot flash recovery command. The downside is HTC doesn't grant the custom recovery kernel write access when booted into recovery mode.
On previous devices, such as the EVO where you and I both came from, we could flash the custom recovery and it would be permanently loaded with complete write access to the whole system.
HTC's unlock method changes this. We can still permanetly load the custom recovery, but it will not have access to flash/write a kernel. All other partitions work correctly.
The two methods I outlined above are the most common for bypassing ths kernel write protection while in recovery mode.
The best way to boot the recovery, in order for HTC to grant it write access for kernel flashing is to use fastboot boot c:\recovery.img . This temporarily loads the recovery compared to the EVO being able to permanately load the recovery.
If you're using HTC's unlock method, they force the user to become familar with fastboot and adb.
Hope that helps add more clarity!

You're not giving much info, so, not assuming you don't know what you're doing, just going to cover all the bases.
Did you:
Reboot phone into Fastboot
Verify the phone says Fastboot USB highlighted
Windows has the drivers for the phone installed while in fastboot as well
My guess is it's the drivers.
Go to Control Panel -> Device Manager
You may have a device with a yellow triangle listed as Android 1.0 or something similar.
Right Click it -> Update Driver Software -> Browse my computer for Driver Software -> Let me pick from a list ... -> Have Disk -> Browse -> ...\AndroidSDK\extras\google\usb_driver\android_winusb.inf -> Android Composite ADB Interface

I'd recommend using the SDK Intaller from AOSP. To get the drivers open the SDK Manager either from Start -> All Programs -> Android SDK Tools, or from your SDK directory.
In the SDK Manager, under the packages list -> extras -> Google USB Driver Package. If it's the first time you've run the app it will try to download everything, I suggest rejecting all but the drivers and the platform tools, it will take a long time to get everything.

I've never installed HTC sync, I just use those SDK drivers for everything. If you ever use ADB in recovery or when booted to /system you'll need to install the drivers separately for those modes as well, but Android Composite ADB Interface will work for all modes.

Hi everyone,
I've found the information in these forums to be very helpful and have never posted on anything before, but I have a question that I'm not finding a good answer for.
I successfully unlocked my bootloader and rooted last night and am now running scrosler's CleanROM. However I want to return to stock using the RUU from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1338916
When I run the RUU I am getting stuck at the HTC recovery screen, and the windows installer tells me that the RUU is not compatible. I tried extracting the rom.zip, renamed it to PH98IMG.zip, copied it to the SDcard and load it in HBOOT, but it won't work either.
Any ideas? I mainly just want to make sure I have a working method to return to stock just in case I accidentally brick the phone at some point, but otherwise I'm good for now.

Here's a more specific account of what happens when I run the RUU.
I get the progress bar that says "Sending......." but then after a few seconds I get the following error:
Error [155] unknown error
The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone
Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again
I've spent the last hour Googling this error and have found that it is a known error with other HTC devices but can't find any info on the Rezound.
Found this helpful thread for a similar issue with the Desire:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029401
Tried starting the RUU with the phone already in fastboot but that didn't change anything.

Interesting, I wonder if anyone has ran it this ruu successfully
Solved
Figured it out. On a hunch I re-locked the bootloader and tried running the RUU using the Windows installer and it worked. It must be some sort of security check thing. I'll just unlock the bootloader again after it's done flashing. It might be good for someone with more seniority on the forum to make this information more visible in case anyone else runs into this issue.

Hi yall,
So you just got that brand new rezound, you've used it for a few days and you are figuring that you need to change something about it. This is a very simple guide to unlocking bootloader and getting s-off. This guide assumes that you are still on gingerbread. But first we define the terms
What is bootloader and why do I have to unlock it
Bootloader is simply a basic level of security that is put in place by HTC to ensure that roms that are not signed by HTC cannot be flashed. Unlocking the boot loader allows you to flash custom roms,
What is s-off and why I need it
S-ON is the second level of security that HTC places in their phones. S-On means that you will have a hard time flashing custom kernels and radios.
RUU
To put it simply, this is a ROM developed by hTC and signed, again, by HTC.
So we now have a fair understanding of this three big words that you see been thrown around in the forums. Lets go on.
Do you have bootloader unlocked? Very simple way to verify. Power off your phone and then press POWER and VOL- simultaneously. This will bring you to a white screen. This is bootloader. At the very top, you will find something similar to this:
***LOCKED***
VIGOR PVT SHIP S-ON RL
This means your bootloader is locked and you have s-on.
Before taking any other step, lets flash the ICS leak so as to update the firmware. This will save you a lot of trouble later with old/new firmware later on. Note, this is only if you have both bootloader and s-on.
Download any RUU in the links below
http://www.mediafire.com/?s8gttwdf32fx8
Links courtesy of uToTMeH8
select the ics 3.11 link and download all the links in that page.
Do you have winrar installed? I f you have, simply double click the part1.rar and it will automtically recombine all the files into one file that is approximately 610Mb. Rename the file to PH98IMG and copy it into your sd card. Do not put it in any file!
Now power down your phone and reboot into bootloader as described above. You remember, right?
The phone will automatically detect the RUU and will begin installation. Click the power button when it asks you to and give it some time. The installation process takes anywhere from 5-10minutes. Your are now on the new firmware!!!
Now the next step is to unlock the bootloader. Boot up your phone. The quickest way to avoid the setup process is to boot the phone without the simcard. After you have skipped the set up process, go to settings--->developer options and enable USB debugging.
Now download this simple application the rezound all in one kit
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504824
Once download is complete, right click on it and run as administrator. Follow the processes from 1to5. This should unlock your bootloader. Once bootloader is unlocked, go to the extras menu and click the permroot and run.
If at any one time you find the programme unresponsive, simply close it and open agin as administrator.
Note that the unlock_code that you download must be placed in the data folder of the program inorder to unlock the bootloader.
Also, install a custom recovery, preferably AMonRa. This makes it easy to flash ROMs.
The next step is to get s-off. Follow the proceedure here
http://unlimited.io/juopunutbear-public-beta-0-1/instructions/htc-rezound/
Once you get s-off, you are now ready to go to the development section and install roms. Test a few ROMs until you find one that suits your tastes. We are unique after all.
Just place the rom you have downloaded in your sd card and boot into recovery using the rezound all in one kit by selecting reboot into recovery. Scroll down to the flash zip menu and select the ROM.
Press the power button to confirm ROM installation and voila! Welcome to your first custom ROM
Warning
After unlocking bootloader and s-off, the two basic security checks, you need to always check the MD5 of any custom rom you download just to make sure that all files are intact. The MD5 checksum is usually a string of numbers that confirm the zip file integrity. Most devs usually post the MD5 checksum on the download page of the ROM. Download the application from the following link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?doyvy4ird10j8ym
To check the MD5 checksum, copy the string of characters and numbers and run the program. It will immediately paste the characters in the first slot. Select the ROM you have downloaded by clicking the browse button. The application will run and tell you whether the chesum matches or not. If it does not match, DO NOT FLASH THE ROM
Redownload the rom and verify the checksum again
Any questions? Just ask and I will do my best to answer them
Just wanna say good job. Many people will be happy. I could've used this when I first got my rezound. Most instruction threads don't put things in noob terms like you did. Good job.

It's very useful!
Ok so I could not wait for the root to come out and I could not for the life of me figure out how to install a custom rom without first rooting your EVO LTE first. But I was randomly doing stuff and I figured out how to install a custom recovery onto a phone that has 1.22.651.3.
Edit: This method seems to get rid of the "This build is for development purposes only.
Do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC's written permission.
Failure to comply may lead to legal action." text. I am looking into this. my device is S-ON not S-OFF so this might be something.
Before you can do this you need to have an unlocked bootloader.
1. Download this file http://www.mediafire.com/?h0qfd9idc6h3c03
2. Place the file into where your android sdk folder is.
3. Put your phone into bootloader mode.
4. Click Fastboot and make sure your device is in FastUSB mode.
5. Open command prompt on your computer.
6. In command prompt locate the folder where you put the image in for me its "cd c:\android-sdk-windows
7. Type in "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.2.1-jewel.img"
8. Hit enter.
The image should be pushed onto your device and TWRP should now be installed.
You should mention that you need to be at least HTC DEV Unlocked in order to install a custom recovery, a working Link, and proper way to push a file.

I will post a link to the file. Can you give me a little more detail? Were you able to push the image to the phone? Did it get pushed to the device and nothing happened?
Also I have noticed that doing this gets rid of the "This build is for development purposes only.
Do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC's written permission.
Failure to comply may lead to legal action."
It could be the rom I am using that did it. Not sure.... I will look into it.....

Which Rom are you using? Did the message on the HTC splashscreen go away immediately after you flashed twrp or after you flashed the Rom?

I am using Viper4G 1.0.0 I think it happened right after I flashed TWRP. I really was not paying attention to it XD.

I honestly had no idea that even existed. I only go on XDA xD. I guess Iwill just get my posted deleted then. But what was not mentioned in that post was about that HTC DEV text that appears when you unlock the bootloader. From what I understand the only way to get rid of that is through S-OFF but I never did S-OFF and the text is not appearing on my phone. This is very mystifying.

That TWRP is out of date though. I installed the lastest TWRP for the EVO 4G LTE and I have not had any issues.

Honestly the text doesn't bother me and don't delete the post just update it to correct information some people are lazy and don't read the thread and post or even do a simple search I admit I've done that but it's also been clear to me people just take it as is so just update with simpler instructions dude like go here and after update here after flashing a rom for some reason it would only update after I flashed a rom fyi

Installation Instructions
_____________________________________________
For stock GB (may work if rooted): make sure you have a locked bootloader (instructions in FAQ) and the stock Recovery (link at bottom of post)
1. Open Settings by pressing Menu and tapping Settings (or opening the settings Icon)
2. Click about phone
3. Click Software Update
4. Accept and Download
5. When prompted, install and reboot (may take 20 mins to an hour depending on connection)
6. Profit!
For any ICS Firmware:
You have 2 options now. You can:
1. Run the GB OTA RUU.exe (linked below), and take the ICS update from there (S-OFF only)
*OR*
2. Relock bootloader (Only if S-ON) and run the OTA RUU
If you're on one of the ICS Firmwares, I'll assume you already know how to flash an RUU (as you have to to get on the leaked firmware) so I won't explain that in this post. If you really don't know how, see this guide: http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/flashing-ruu-htc
OTA RUU: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/ (PH98IMG.zip)
GB 2.01 RUU: http://www.4shared.com/file/DCi69XHl/RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_20160511.html (thanks synisterwolf) (RUU.exe)
Stock GB Recovery: http://www.mediafire.com/?wb21d2gdurui2c6 (thanks, Scotty85)
SuperSU.zip: http://download.chainfire.eu/204/SuperSU/CWM-SuperSU-v0.94.zip (flash this if you have trouble getting root) (thanks, HowardZ)

This is the error i receive when attempting to install the update. I have an unlocked bootloader.
Assert failed : apply_patch_check(" /system/app/kindle.apk", "9bba894dffe:unknown command [2756cf50f5514ba2a1e622ffe335c",]
E:Error in /cache/fumo/otapkg.zip

I'll start, because I don't think that I have seen a definitive answer yet.
Has anybody running a leak been able to pull and install the update OTA?

If you're on a leak, you will have to either downgrade to GB and take the OTA, or run the full RUU.exe, or PH98IMG.zip

To lock the bootloader, look in post #2 I included the fastboot code for it. To unlock again, you can just flash the same unlocktoken.bin that you used the first time if you kept it. If not, then you will have to use HTCdev to unlock again
does anyone have the stock recovery for s-on ppl? thanks.

All you have to do is open the command prompt app, type CD C:\path to the\folder you put\adb and fastboot in. (So if you had it in you desktop you'd type cd C:\Users\YourUserName\Desktop\Android-SDK [or whatever you called it])
Then type (without quotes) "fastboot oem lock"
It's that simple!

IM sure it is simple .
But even that is confusing for me as i unlocked my bootloader many moons ago with step by step directions so i have not done this since then.
Like setting up an SBS server from scratch and configuring a network with computers and printers and a VPN and or working in exchange is simple cause i do it everyday haha.
Sorry to have wasted your time loL. I will stick around till someone uploads a youtube video or tutorial for this
Thank you for your efforts
Sorry again.

I think you might have to disable background data per app in settings>data usage

I'll try to help.
1.You have to use the command line so open that up.
2. navigate to where you placed the fastboot files
> type "cd\" without the quotes
> type cd where did you put the fastboot files
so if you put it in the C drive in a folder called android you would type
cd android
if you put it in a folder in a folder
as in the folder then in another folder in their called tools put
cd android/tools
then when you are where your fastboot stuff is type
fastboot oem lock
I have the first "official" ICS leak from back in March - no root or S-off just the leak which was loaded from a microSd card. Do I need to downgrade back to GB or simply wait until the update gets pushed to me? My phone currently says there are no software updates available.
Can all this be done on any ics based Rom* for instance I'm using the viperRez Rom with s-on.. would all I have to do flash stock recovery<relock bootloader<apply PH98IMG for update<re-unlock<and flash back to amonRa? Will I lose root or data? Would I be able to flash back to my current Rom
