Gday friends,
Ive just bought a 10.1 as i dropped my 10.1v and it now has a line down the middle needless to say this is unacceptable so i bought the new one.
So im after advice as to which rom you would recommend for my 10.1 3g.
I was looking at Tasks rom but its only wifi which is a shame.
I gather i am unable to run a 10.1v rom on my tab?
any suggestion would be welcomed.
Thanks
Overcome rom
seems like the only option at this stage.
Overcome rom
We shall overcome Rom
As I am very close to rooting/ROMing, what are the main differences between Task and Overcome?
I've read the feature lists, but honestly, it all just blurs together and my eyes gloss over. (I've done so much reading on both 10.1 ROMs and Epic 4G Touch ROMs that my brain has melted down.)
Thanks for input.
t-mobile
Hey everyone,
I have a t-mobile galaxy tab 10.1 Model SGH-t859. Anyone know if the overcome rom will work with it?
It's listed for the p75xx but I'm not sure if I can run that on my device.

Hey I need a little insight you those of you who have knowledge on the Galaxy tab 10.1 or 8.9 wifi or HP touchpad ICS ROM. I've been doing some reading and from the looks of it, it seems there are many more problems with the ICS ROM's for the Galaxy Tab than the HP touchpad. I have a touchpad w/ ICS and it's Awesome, no real issues other than the camera but that's minor.I wanna get the Galaxy Tab because it's different and I believe the hardware is better, but I'm a bit discouraged because all the issues I've read with the current ICS ROM's.
What do you guys think? Touchpad or Galaxy Tab 10.1 or 8.9?

What issues are you talking about? I've not got ICS on my Galaxy Tab but from what I've read there's only the camera not working, which seems to be a universal issue for knife-and-forked ROMs. I'm actually considering flashing it this afternoon, even though I'm VERY happy with it running the latest stock HC.

I've read some people having wifi, rotation, and calendar syncing issues amongst other things with their G-Tab. Just search the Cyanogen 9 ICS thread and you'll see for yourself. To me it doesn't seem as polished as CM9 for the Touchpad. If you decide to give it a try let me know how it goes.
i thinks galaxy tab is a best choose!android more and good apps
Sorry if this is a noob question but since galaxy tab 10.1 2 is out can't anyone just port that official ics rom. Onto the original gtab 10.1? I mean its basically the same tab.

As soon as a succesful port or dump of any official ICS is done for 75xx you'll know in Development section for sure

Different processor, other peripherals (micro sd, ir blaster, and other non-documented changes), so it is not the same tab, not even basically...
We will just have to bite the bullet and wait a little while (days, weeks, or more?) before the official sources/drivers come out to play.

I think getting TouchWiz ICS ported over along with ICS is the most important part. Not the entire ROM per-sei
Alot of features in TouchWiz are alot more stable than that of AOKP. *cough* browser *cough*
Hi all
Was just curious, is the Tab 10.1 capable of running an Android 4.2 rom with TouchWiz and features such as multi-window from the Note 10.1? Is someone busy developing a similar one? I'm running ICS The Beginning rom by Task650.... And it's great.... I'm sure if he developed 4.2 with TW it would be even more awesome....

I wouldn't hold my breath for this. Samsung has to get around to rolling out TouchWiz on JB. This isn't likely, given their track record of rolling out ICS for the 10.1 months after its initial release. The features you are looking for from the Note 10.1 are also unlikely to make their way into the Tab 2 10.1, let alone the Tab version 1 10.1.
This is an excellent little tablet, particularly with the tweaks and custom rome available on this forum, it's just not Samsung's premiere product offering anymore.
I was thinking about picking up a used one of these for my mother for her birthday. I am torn between this and a Nexus 7, but I think she may like the larger size.
She already had a Galaxy S3 and a Kindle Touch. She mainly would just use it for Facebook, email, and some little BS games.
I this tablet still got enough power and support to last her a year or two? Also, would the stock rom with root be fine? She actually likes the touchwiz on the S3 so I would just keep that on the tablet as long as it's smooth enough.
I could get a used Tab for 150-200 or just pick up a brand new Nexus 7 for 200. What do you guys think?
Thank You

If she's okay with the 7 inch size, I would suggest the Nexus 7. I gave my mom my original Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 inch, with CM 10 rom and she loves it. She much prefers the 7 inch size to a 10 inch tablet, but that's just my mom.
The Tab 10.1 is a great device, and is definitely worth it for 150 bucks. The stock rom is fine, but I would go ahead and load CM 10 or 10.1 on there just because it will be a smoother and better experience.
All in all, if she is particular about a 10 inch tablet, the Tab 10.1 is a good buy. But if she is okay with a 7 inch tablet, I would go with the nexus 7.
Thanks for the reply. Today I ended up asking her if she liked my Tab 7.7 or my wife's Tab 8.9. She seemed to like the 8.9 better because it was something she would just use at home. I was going to offer her my 7.7 and then just pick up a Note 8.0 for myself, but I think she likes the bigger screens.
So that being the case. Does the 10.1 run with any serious lag? I keep reading reviews about how slow it can be. She won't be taxing it with too much stuff, but she doesn't like any lag either.

If you're keeping it completely stock, there may be a very slight lag just because of older hardware, but nothing terrible. If you do want to keep it stock, I would suggest using Nova Launcher, because it runs a lot smoother with transitions, swiping the homescreen, animations, etc. There's a free and a paid version of it.
If you want to flash a custom ROM on it, you may not get serious lag, but there will be glitches here and there like I mentioned before. For example, there is a slight flicker that happens on the screen every now and then, doesn't really bother me but it may bother some people. But the upside is that you gain a lot of features with CM 10.1 that you don't have with the stock touchwiz android 4.0 that comes with the Tab.
If you are wanting long term support I suggest the nexus 7 but as it is for your mom and see isn't going to be doing much according to your posts then get a tab 10.1 and put a custom rom on it.

Thanks for the help.
I ended up getting her a Tab 10.1 for $150 with a flip case. It is coming pre loaded with CM 10 I think. It is the 4.2 version I believe. I told the guy to just leave that on. I may try the stock rom with the Nova launcher though to start her off. Not sure if there are any touchwiz like roms made, so I guess it will just revert to stock GB and let it upgrade to ICS. All in all, I think she is going to be just fine with the stock version for what she does on it.

Remember to update the rom to the lastest version because there have been many bug fixes and new cyanogenmod nightlies get released.

I am going to research and find the most stable ics or jb rom. I don't live with my mother and don't want to keep checking for updates. I think I found a V8 rom I could use.

The tab should be arriving today before I get home. I will download the JB V8 rom and install it tonight before giving it to her tomorrow. I haven't really looked to much into it yet, but it looks pretty stable. There doesn't seem to be that many bugs either.

It isn't JB. It's touchwiz based ICS 4.0.4.
