Hi Guys,
My galaxy S2 rearranges all my icons every time I re-start after my battery dies out or change sims - I'm not sure which. It places them in a very ineffecient way placing maybe four apps on a page, it's gotten so bad now that I have 13 pages half filled with apps. I tried to bypass the problem by placing my important stuff and bloat-ware in seperate folders , guess what, it emptied them out and I'm back to square one!
Anybody having a similar problem? I've searched the forums , but no joy. I'm running a stock 2.3.4 - I9100XKI1 (non rooted)
Thanks for all the help!

Me too
This is probably normal behaviour. Since you don't normally run a batter to dead or change sims often it doesn't matter too much. Even when you remove apps the icons are somtimes rearranged. I don't think there is anyway to have them arranged alphabetically except when you chose to view by List.
Regards,
John.
Hi,
I have almost the same problem. The icons just keep rearranging so now I have many almost empty pages. The funny thing is that if I arrange them in the way I want, it's fine for an hour or two and then they rearrange even without rebooting the phone. I'm really tired of this. There's nothing on the Internet about such a problem.
Does anyone have any ideas what's wrong?

Thanks.
I can confirm this bug (2.3.6 KK2 with siyah kernel). It not only rearranges the apps on different pages, it removes 1 of the 4 apps from the dock. This happens without rebooting or running down battery.
I had a similar problem which I fixed by clearing the TwLauncher data (in Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> All).
Doing this will cause all the current icon positions to be lost, but it should start remembering them going forward.
I think there was something corrupt that prevented the icon positions from being saved.
Hopefully this works for you.
After arranging icons, try selecting menu > save
@ SGS-II " Save " its not working... i too have the same prob... i am using Android 2.3.5. It usually happens when i clear the memory from the task manager.

I got the same issue. Could you please tell me more that clearing TwLauncher data. Under All tab, there are not only the downloaded apps but also built-in apps. How can I clear them all? If so, what is different to soft reset or hard reset? Thanks!
I can't find the TwLauncher data on my settings. Pls help.
Download and install Appzorter from Playstore.. And then u have the option to arrange it by Alphabatically or to date of installation....
Hope I helped you....

How about rearranging it according to your desire location.

Anyone experienced this weird problem before? After some use of about few min usage with 2 or more apps running, if the HOME button is pushed, it would reset the launcher and ask me to pick the default launcher again. I have ADW Launcher, Touchwiz, and LauncherPro. Everytime it does this by prompting "> Complete action using ...", I select ADW and checkmark "Use by default for this action." Some 10 - 20 min later, it loses the selection and ask me again even after reboot, uninstall, reinstall, same problem. I have stock froyo ROM, but rooted, with other kernels. I had latest supercurio kernel, it had same problem. I'm testing Overstock kernel, still same problem. The problem is not so bad, it is bearable as long as I don't press the HOME button. It just gets annoying and happened like 70% of the time of pushing that button. Anyone knows how to fix this? Danke.
Same problem here, but with go launcher. Im using darkys 9.5
Home switcher didnt solve it!

I had a similar issue recently. It was an app (MoboPlayer) causing it. Every time I would long press the home button it would lose the default setting. The dev recently fixed it, but I'd suggest having a look at what apps you recently installed and do some testing.

Wait so you are saying an app can cause this? I thought the apps are chrooted (sandboxed) so can't really affect each other except for OS affecting them. What's the best way to figure out what was recently installed? I have lots. If none, I guess I can try uninstall all the apps...and reinstall just a few to see if that holds up.

Just a idea..
-Have Titanium backup.
Backup the launchers(keep 1 there though you need 1), if you have to save the data, save the data.
uninstall it.
reboot.
restore it
that might work?
or erasing the data from the apps might work too

I thought the same thing, but it was definitely MoboPlayer causing it for me. It went away when I uninstalled, and returned immediately when I reinstalled it. I emailed the dev and he fixed it.
If you have Titanium Backup, under the Backup/Restore tab, you can tap the "ordered by" header to sort by install date.
When this happens the easy fix is to go task manager and shut all programs it will reset for you your settings np. This happens to me occasionally when my 4yr old plays with my phone, somehow she jacks it up and erases some the launchers like the phone, etc. So, I found this restores easily.
The problem was ADW.Launcher Free. Without it, things seem alot more stable.
I have a solution
I was struggling with this very issue. I thought it was due to partially corrupt system data. I installed another ROM, from scratch, rebuilt it to my specifications, then added a different launcher once again (different one this time). Rebooting resulted in the default lost and also all widgets showing with an "error loading widget" message in their place.
I finally figured out what was going on. It's because I had selected the option "move to SD card" as the default when installing applications. So, the launcher was on the SD card. Well, this creates a problem with timing, because the SD card is prepared a little later on in the boot process, after the required time to load the launcher. The result? Android draws up the default launcher. And for some reason, the older launcher ends up compromised with some of its default settings.
Once I moved my launcher app back to phone memory, the problem went away.
Hi all, noob here with a question. I've searched high and low but can't find an answer.
A short bit of background....Today for the first time I decided to set up my work email on my SGS II. My phone asked me to change some of the security rules associated with the phone. I accepted and it set about encrypting phone storage and usb storage. As a result of this my phone went haywire. Constantly force closing various apps hundreds of times. I was unable to use the phone for hours but eventually got in to delete the email account. Once I'd managed to do this the phone automatically decrypted itself.
As a result though, no widgets on my phone load. I've tried battery pulls but this hasn't worked.
Does anyone have any ideas before I have to do something drastic like delete and reinstall each app?
Thanks.

Have you removed the widgets from your homescreen and then added them again? That normally solves widget issues.
If you have then yeah, uninstall and reinstall. It'll only take a minute for each one so it's hardly the end of the world. Just a pain in the arse.
Thanks, simple solution, should have tried that before!
It is an utter pain because most of my widgets and short cuts are invisible- using circle launcher and wave launcher.
I shall get to it now!
Well basically I uninstalled some preinstalled apps on my SGS2, I first checked if I could remove the apps without having any phone problems and I was sweet. Now when I try placing apps on my menu in order, if my phone runs out of battery or if I turn it off there just in random places again..
Does anyone know how to fix this or has the same problem..?
Cheers.
Not sure what you removed... but what ROM are you using? Are you on stock ROM? GB or ICS? Are you using any kind of different UI/Launcher -- if you are, check your drawer settings and how it sorts apps (by title or mostly used, etc).
I have tried most of the JB Roms for the Galaxy S3, trying to see what would bother me less in every rom as a missing or not working feature.
I am facing the same problem with almost all roms (but not with all).
As soon as I bring back my applications and data through Titanium backup (never restoring the system files of course) then when I go to Settings/Applications Manager and try to scroll through the installed applications it always freezes and I get the message "Unfortunately, Settings has Stopped" and I get back to home screen.
As I said I did not had the problem only with a couple of roms (not remembering which ones though) but having it most of those I flashed.
All the roms have always been flashed on totally blank mediums since I have always used full wipes (tried to reflash a couple of them on top just to see if this would fix the problem but it did not)
Note that all applications do scroll normally and very fast in other programs also listing the installed applications, either through Titanium Backup or even in the drawer where all apps literally fly when scrolling.
Any help or advice would be greatly.
Does it work ok before you restore apps from Titanium Backup? If it does, try just restoring the apps one at a time and testing after each one. I suspect there's a duff application in there that's been restored, and that's causing the problem
Alternatively just reinstall the apps from the Play Store rather than using TB.
Thank you anthropolyte, man you are fast.
Thought of many things related to JB (because up until v4.0.4 I did not have this issue with - almost - the same applications installed) but I did not think for a moment that a specific application could be the issue. I will re-flash the rom later today and try it your way.
I will report back in case someone faces the same issue.
You're welcome - good luck!
Dear jsfero, did you manage to solve that problem? I'm just facing the same. Firstly I thought it was due to blackm* app but after uninstall it nothing changed. Then I thought it may have to do with apps in drawer showing the same name. Then I kept one and uninstalled the other. Nothing changed. I'm just a bit bored with this situation. My only difference is that I occurred to me also with ICS, not only with JB or CM10.
Could you provide me with some light about this issue?
Many thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, after having tried almost everything from re-flashing to re-downloading all my apps, I could not manage to find out the source of this problem.
It is only just by accident that I found out that a couple of ROMs are not causing any problem and the phone works perfectly well. The one I do remember and I do use now as my main daily usage ROM is the one from Sotmax.
Now, I don't know if this problem is the outcome of a 'bad' combination or bad coexistence of certain programs from kernel or Rom, all I know is that my exact same Titanium back with over 300 apps is the same one I tried on all the Roms so I doubt that the problem is coming the applications side. It was always as if the amount of applications / data was too high for the Roms to handle and crashed the application. And all the sudden one day, I simply realized that with Sotmax's Rom and same applications installed via Titanium did not cause any problem or malfunction.
I even changed kernels, from stock to Siyah and now Perseus, the problem seems to be gone for good with this Rom. I am sure that I must have found a one or two other Roms which did not cause the problem either, unfortunately I did not like them that much to keep them and remember which one they were.

I had the same problem as well unfortunately, also couldn't access App info/app size
Had to uninstall some apps, then reinstalled them again
But I can't install broken Sword without getting the problem again
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Yes, I can confirm that Broken Sword game causes App Info to crash. Another one that I found is from Samsung Apps called "Catch The Monkey". Troubleshooting this was time consuming as I had to uninstall each app in the sequence (refering to appbrain.com which has the sequence of apps I installed from Google Play) and keep testing whether App Info crashes or not.
Anyone else have this issue? Occasionally I'll unlock my Nexus 5 and the current theme will have many of the icons and widgets showing letters or numbers instead of the proper icon anymore.
For example, the phone icon may be the number 4 instead of a phone icon.
The only way I've found to get things back to normal is to download a new theme and install it, delete the old one I was using, and every other one I already had downloaded.
Any idea as to the cause? It is kind of annoying and I've now lost out on some great themes and customizations to current themes (themes that are now missing from themer, adjustments to broken themes).
well had many problems here but unfortnately not that one,are you running latest version ? also if you upgraded current version instead of just an install of the latest version, try to remove everything connected with themer,ie uninstall then physically go into your device storage and delete the mycolorscreen folder (remember to back up what you need to keep first though ie exported themes) then reboot device and reinstall from market, this should hopefully sort it out.If not report back and we will have another go unless someone else had this problem and found a solution
Yeah, i'm in the current version, and I had to do a full uninstall and delete then reinstall when it came out as it kept crashing. THis has been happening now and then for months though.
My wife has had the same issue a few times on her Note 2, so I know it isn't just me. I'm still trying to figure it out. Perhaps I'll start a log of what I do on my phone and then see what last was done before it happens, in case it is my fault.

Hi,
Are you running any 'cleaner' apps? These apps think the Zooper Widget fonts folder is malware, and deletes it. As the icons are fonts, they revert back to the original default font. Unfortunately the only way to fix it would be to reapply the theme or ever reinstall Themer, unless there's a way to whitelist a folder within the cleaner app.
I think you guys hit the nail right on the head. I use clean master, and so is my wife. I went in and checked in the cleaner settings and it was cleaning the zooper.
Unchecked it, Ran cleaning again and the problem is gone away. That's quite awesome.
