[Q] cannot see files over bluetooth - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hi, just got an Ace for Christmas, it has Android 2.3.3. I was able to mount it in Archlinux over bluetooth, using:
Code:
obexfs -b mac_address mountpoint
After I run that command, on the phone I get a notification asking if it's okay to pair with my computer, and I accept. BTW there's a radio-button "Allways allow" but it's greyed out and I can't activate it, any ideas?
However I can navigate through the folders from my computer, but in DCIM/Camera I see no files. However with the app "My Files" from the phone I can see the .jpgs are there. If I long click on them and then select "Details", the last entry says "Bluetooth visibility" and it's set to off, but if I click on it it doesn't change - it remains on off.
How can I see the files from my linux box over bluetooth?

no one else having this problem or some idea as to what I may try to solve it?

just bumping... can someone with an Ace reading this say if they have bluetooth working or not?

Probably no one tried your method of connecting :/
It seems so unorthodox
Herpderp Adreno + Tegra.

AFAIK it's the standard way in Linux... at least so it seems from the Archwiki... what are you using?

Nope , through USB XD
Herpderp Adreno + Tegra.

jjboogie, I am trying to achieve the same, and obexfs seems to be the right way of doing this. Seems the missing part the FTP Server in the Atrix needs to be on. I read that from another post and I am trying to figure what that means. (http----ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11593617#post11593617)
Good links:
http----dev.zuckschwerdt.org/openobex/wiki/ObexFs----
https----wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bluetooth#Pairing----
(sorry for the dashes.. forum rules)

Good news! got it working!
This is what I found / understand:
In order to use obexfs, the phone's obexftp functionality needs to be enable. Some phones includes obexftp and you can enable it in advance bluetooth setting. But the Atrix doesn't include obexftp.
So the solution is you need an app that has obexFTP server. For this I use the "Bluetooth File Transfer" app from the market. After the server is runing, you can run the obexfs commands (ie. obexfs -b 40:FC:89:02:11:17 /mnt/mb860)
Summarized steps:
1) Pair the Atrix with the PC
2) Install "Bluetooth File Transfer" on the phone
3) Make sure Bluetooth FTP server is on
- click on the bluetooth tab
- hit phone button for menu --> More --> Setting --> Sharing Service (FTP)
- here you can set the FTP server as you need
4) Mount the phone to the PC
Let me add..
There is also another FTP Server program called: "ES File Explorer"
Don't know which is better, so trying them now...
I also did notice significant battery drain from having the FTP Server on

or it could be your carrier settings... make sure that your phone isnt on a setting with a proxy server, you might need to change it to "My Isp" before connecting to WIFI

Custel has made this pretty easy. He has two cabs located in the windows directory, one that disables the proxy, and one that restores it. You need to run the one that disables it.
In case you cannot find these actual files, go back to Custel's thread, and check, I believe, the 2nd post. He offers a cab to install links for each of them in the programs directory.
Hope this helps. I run his ROM and have no problem at all with my wifi.
Good luck,

Is device in pair mode? If so, you can try just one of many bluetooth file transfer applications on market.

Ok, I can't describe it detaily, becouse I haven't English on my phone.
1) In HomeScren pres menu button, properties, wireless, bluetooth properties. Turn BT on, make device visible.
Now can be phone finded via another devices, so do add new device / pair davice or somethink like this, find your device, add it as trusted/paired, confirm code and after first upload/download/access into phone, select allow allways.

[Q] After flash to TNTlite 4.4, no longer can connect PC to gTab

With apologies to Roebeet, who provided a response to an earlier inquiry about this - - but I couldn't interpret what to do - I am posting here to see if anyone who has flashed to TNTlite 4.4 has had a problem with connecting their PC to the gTab and being able to then see the sdcard drive and contents. When I connect now, the tab shows a "USB Connected" and then a USB Debugging Connected" message, but nothing can be seen on the PC, except, a removable disk (F and when that is hilighted the message "please insert a disk into drive F" shows up.
Any advice, reference to a thread that addresses this, or other guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Pinckneyite,
This is a new one to me and I read the forums pretty thoroughly.
Since the drivers that communicate to the PC are built in, the only
suggestion I can think of is to re-flash the ROM and see if it comes
up.
If not, then I would re-flash back to stock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
and see if it works there. Along the way, you may need
to load CWM (ClockWorkMod) in case you need to clear/wipe, etc.
Do some loading and testing the let us know what you find out.

It doesn't automatically mount on your PC. You have to pull down the notifications menu and select "USB Connected." That will give you a dialog that will allow you to "Activate" USB file transfer.

You have no idea how long I spent trying to figure that out when I had that problem... ;-)

Well maybe, then, you know what the "USB debugging" option on that notifications menu means? I see it there as an option to turn it off or on. Leaving it on seems to do nothing to handling file transfers, etc. What is it for? Thanks.
USB Debugging is a development tool. It's not necessary for average daily functions but a few apps out there require it. It won't hurt to just leave it on.
TNT (Lite) is different thatn AOSP based mods, that's correct - you just have to click on the "!" icon.

[GUIDE] WIFI revere TETHER over Ad-hoc for WINDOWS and UBUNTU

This guide teaches you to reverse tether your Android phone via WiFi. That is, it allows you to use your Ethernet connection of PC on your Android phone. It is useful for those who do not have WiFi routers and data connection. So if you have unlimited data plan for your computer, why not share the connection with your phone?
I am not the developer of the files supplied
Requirements:-
1.Rooted Phone
2.Wifi enabled Laptop or PC
3.Root explorer or any other application which gives system access
4.File in the attachement
Procedure :-
Phone:
Download Wpa_supplicant.zip and extract "wpa_supplicant" from it, save it on your SD card.
Open Root Explorer, and grant it superuser access when asked for.
Navigate to system -> bin and long press on wpa_supplicant; Select copy, and paste the file into any folder on your SD card.
Now navigate to the file you downloaded, copy it in same way, and paste it back to system -> bin. Note, you might need to mount the system as R/W instead of R/O by pressing a button on the top just before pasting the file.
Reboot.
▬▬Ubuntu (Must work for other Linux Distros too)▬▬:
Open Network Connections
Goto Wireless tab, select add, and set the following:
SSID: <Any_name_you_like>
Mode: Ad hoc
Leave other things unchanged, and go to Ipv4 settings tab
Set method to Shared to other computers
Go to Wireless security tab and set Security to WEP 40/128 bit key and set key to a numeric password (or hexadecimal one).
Check the connect automatically box on top of the tabs and press Save.
Your Android phone must now detect this network, and you can establish the connection by using your security key.
▬▬Windows XP, Vista, 7▬▬
Download and Install Connectify from www . connectify.me/download-lite/
Start Connectify Hotspot by giving a name and password to your hotspot and selecting the Ethernet connection to share. Make sure the security type is WEP or Open.
Disable your firewall (Simply adding it to exceptions doesn't work for AVG at least)
Now your phone should be able to see the hotspot and establish the connection using the password set.
Known Issues :
1.Random disconnections (Very less frequency)
2.Disconnections due to screen lock / sleep on laptop
3.For me Security mode does not works
HIT THANKS IF IT WORKED
ENJOY
For windows, "virtual wifi router" -> Download is free, and imho better..
Do not download the installer version though
it doesn't work, my wifi is broken. When i turn it on, it does nothing, no scanning for network whatsoever and after a few second it turns off by it self. please help..

i think the problem is "wpa_supplicant" file. i moved my backup "wpa_supplicant" back to system/bin and now wifi works fine..
There is a much simpler way to reverse tether. Just search for the app in the play store. It's name is “reverse tether" it costs $4.99 but there's a trial version for testing purposes.

please read the thread before you post. That app works only on usb connection. and the op is discussing wireless tether. i don't think anybody would like to spend 5 dollars and then be physically tethered to the pc.
Also, this sites name is xda-developers, we are here to develop and find solutions. If you just wanted to buy 5 dollar apps, then why visit here?
so other people can get it to work? i wonder why doesn't it work for me, tried it again but still facing the same problem, i'm on arconium gb 8.2 and doom kernel v22 :/

u r attaching the binary file
i tried this several times with several file source ALWAYS FAIL(i didn't try yours)
maybe the the wpa_supplicant.conf file , that located in /etc/wifi/
or the other one located in /data/misc/wifi
r regenerating the binary file the wrong way so it overwritten
is it possible to attach above mention file so we can follow same
NOTE:THIS FILE CONTAIN UR WIRELESS NETWORK PASSWORDS U CAN REPLACE IT WITH *****
Why not just use connectify?
