Apps With Digital Pen after HC Update - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Will someone with HTC official HC confirm for me that "PDF Viewer", "Gallery", and "Notes" all work with the pen like they did prior to HC?
I use "Gallery" and "PDF Viewer" a lot at work and if the digital pen no longer works then I won't upgrade.
Tried searching the forums and youtube to no avail.
thanks.

Yes, they all work. The pen integration in HC is better overall.

Sketchbook Pro is amazing on the flyer. Pen pressure support = win.

I spent a good while familiarising myself with all the threads about the differences between GB and HC, finally took the plunge and updated to HC. I really needed the stylus to work... And it does! The pen Sense UI is activated by clicking on the hardware button bottom right, which now shows a menu of options to take a screenshot, use notes, or open the pen options menu.
The Flyer feels like it now behaves like it always should have done.

Thanks all. I did update and I love the new pen usage.

Does that mean no more tapping on the screen for instant screenshots? I kinda like that feature...

better pen drawing by cloth
Hi all, I found that if wrap the pen's nipple with a small piece of cloth. it helps a lot better perfomance of the pen. Let's try with this trick and have fun in smooth draw on SBM.

I really have enjoyed the pen but when I changed to a new battery (energizer), I found the pen to be way too sensitive. Draws when you are a couple mm from the screen. Anyone else experience this. I put the old energizer battery back in and all is well.

Sounded interesting so tried it, but it made pen make marks even when not touching the screen; too sensitive, like Ishman mentioned with a fully charged energizer battery. Maybe it's the type of cloth I used, with too much synthetic material in it. What did you use?

Is HD stylus with built-in ballpen available?

Anybody has this or seen this around? Would like to buy if available.
Can't find anything in eBay or Google.
Can't understand why people are not making it, I hope it has nothing to do with the magnetic nature of the stylus....

EDIT - More tactful this time
I haven't seen these for the HD, and I'm quite sure they aren't available to buy anywhere.
Can't see there being a big market for it though as all apps like diary, calculator, notepad, etc are available on HD
that's probably because when people have a pda they don't use pencils and ballpoints anymore.
notepad? in pda
agenda? in pda
shoppinglist? in pda
etc etc
and you dont want to have the mess of a leaking ballpoint in your pda

For me to write down something on paper for others.....or signing documents...
Had it for a long time on my iPaq, never had problem with ink leaking. Morever, the cap is quite tightly fitted and ink volume is small.
I agree with the first writer... with the exception of my HD I've always had a pen/stylus and found it wonderful for the times when you need to jot a note down to give to someone and all you have on you is your phone
ballpen as stylus? wtf.. why... if you place a ballpen for some time head up (or even horizontal) it's often dried out or leaking. Dried out... it's becomes useless. Leaking it becomes a problem. In short ..NO
To each its own, one man's meat is another man's poison.
Quality matters, I supposed. For years, the stylus ballpen on my iPaq never leak and better still, the pen never fail to write even when I last used it weeks ago. Love the convenience of having a pen at my disposal!
Looks like stylus with ballpen is really not available for HD.
double post
I am looking for this as well.
Not a bad idea.
I would like to know if this is available as well. Moving to Blackstone Accessories.

Tks for the url.
The pic in the ad is not a HD stylus, not sure if I can be convinced by their description until they can show a pic that looks right; esp. when we know that nobody has seen a HD stylus with ballpen before.
Also, I think the price is kinda steep.
The search goes on....
I've had pen/sylus before. I think they are useful. There are still occasions you need an actual pen and as I always have my HD on me, this means I would always have a pen on me
I agree, £11 is a little much...
I used to have one for my HTC Wizard. That tylus was telescoping, it would retract to fit into the phone. It was cool at first to have a pen handy. But eventually the suction from the expanding of the stylus pulled the ink out of the tube and made a huge mess. So, since the HD stylus is solid, I would think the concept would be better. There has to be one out there somewhere!

I'm using ones from my Trinity they stick out slightly at the corner/side (but it flush with the end of the device), other than that it's a perfect fit. I agree it's good to have a pen always with you!

Erm, kinda defeats the purpose doesn't it?
We're looking for a stylus with a pen in it, so we don't have to carry a pen around, you're suggesting a pen?

So we have a simple solution!
Just take an emery board / nail file and make it fit the Touch HD
One more question to Noony, is the stylus of the Trinity magnetic, so it stays in our HD while shaking ?

Filing down would be tricky it's 2mm at the front and almost flush at the back.
It's not magnetic but it's a good fit. Never fallen out and never fallen apart when being pulled out. I gave it a good shake and it doesn't move

Pen is not a stylus! Any way to fix?

Hello.
Flyer's pen is great, but it is working only in two applications - Notes and Scribe.
I want to use it in Autodesk Sketachpad and Mapple paint.
Is there any way to make it work as usual stylus in other applications?
sadly there's no way at the moment.
htc has released the sdk for it, we can only hope that developers are willing to cater for this.
It actually can be used to select UI elements, but it seems HTC wants to restrict it to writing and drawing. In the "kid mode" app, when painting tab is selected, you can use the pen to select other tabs and tool icons. However, after clicking on a tab, pen no longer works on UI elements.
By the way, pen also works in PDF viewer, Polaris Office, Reader, Picture gallery and kid mode app. I hope more developers will discover its potential.

I believe they've merely announced that they plan to.
I am not sure if I have misunderstood what the thread is about... But the pen can be used as a stylus if you turn it around and use the blunt end - it will scroll the screen and register taps/clicks etc.
Be careful though as the finish on the pen is not smooth and if used to scroll and drag it can scratch the screen and/or the screen protector.
If I have got the meaning behind the OP's thread wrong apologies, it is late (here) and I'll get me coat

Yes, the other end of the pen can be a stylus, Get a screen protector, and wrap the other side of the pen with a film protector likeinvisishield or bodyguardz.

It has not been released.
It has only been anounced. There is no telling when it will actually be released. The longer they take though the more it will hurt HTC.
I've heard of someone getting the conductive rubber tip from a capacitive stylus and fitting it over the end of the pen. That would work to protect the screen.

htc flyer pen possibilities...

guess too earlier to look\ask around..the possivilities using that pen on pad other than flyer, once the application is ported to general android pad... curious how difficult technically ?

I was under the impression that Scribe was dependent on hardware too, not just software. Does the flyer have a special digitizer? Can anyone else confirm?

Yes, the Flyer has an n-trig active digitizer
my naieve thoughts are....as long as screen is the same.....pen...we can get the pen without getting a flyer.
unless there are some ckecking/funtioning apps put in the pen along with its hardware, then we will have to deal with.....
Sent from my SHW-M110S using XDA App
Guess you didn't catch what the other posters said. There is a special piece of hardware in the screen of the HTC Flyer called an N-Trig Digitizer that allows the pen to work. I know there is a Win7 tablet on the market that also uses the same digitizer so the pen will work on that device as well.
Short answer, the pen will only do what it does if your device has a digitizer in the screen. Any sort of app has nothing to do with it. It is purely hardware based.
i see. so screen is different.

the flyer pen even use a battery, to use it you have to press a small button so it sends electricity to the digitizer to detect the differentiation between itself and your fingers

Ok I deserved that! I actually bought a stylus and then returned it because I am looking for something that would allow me to make notes on documents and something that is a little more precise than my finger. I am thinking that I will just have to get a Flyer and the GT10.1 really does not serve this purpose.
the Samsung stylus is a little sharper than the regular stylus everyone is selling

maybe that + Evernote = WIN !?
Just FYI.
The Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet also ships with a n-trig pen.
I have one of these devices and would love to have the functionality (instant editable screenshot) on my tablet.
So if anyone could dump the app from their flyer I would be willing to testdrive it

It doesn't work like that.
I have a Flyer and a Tab. In GB the Flyer's pen did as you say and captured a screenshot that you could then draw on using the pen. I've upgraded my Flyer to HC and the pen now behaves differently. You can use the pen as a stylus (interact with the screen/widgets etc), but you can also draw on the screen having taken a screenshot/make a new note etc using a special hardware 'button' in the Flyer casing (screenshot attached - you can only just make out the button you click on to activatwe the pen functions - where the pen tip is).
You'd therefore need both the hardware and software capability to use it.

[Q] Taking notes during classes

I want to know if anyone take notes with your transformer. And i need an opinion about a good cheap capacitive pen, and a good app tu take these notes. Thank you all.
PS- I live in Portugal. If I were to buy online I would prefer buying at least inside the EU.
I'm using the classic pen from www.adonit.net. It's a wonderful pen for only 20 dollars. It's super acurate and works wonders.
As for the app i use, I use a couple diffrent ones. I find that when i need to type something, like review questions for a quiz, Kingsoft Office works wonders.
https://market.android.com/details?id=cn.wps.moffice_eng&hl=en
As for notes with the pen and such, I use WritePad.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.writepad&hl=en
There's also another app called antipaper, but I dont't have the pro version of that. If you need screen shots I can post some later. Otherwise check out the Adonit Jot thread for screens of diffrent not taking apps, and the pen it's self.
i just use the built in one called supernote. You can type fine as well as handwrite and add anotations such as diagrams. been using it now for about 4 months with no issue
I'm taking a lot of notes.
It's not easy, far from writing on paper, yet dooable and saves you a lot of time and strugle with sheets of paper and notebooks.
Cheap styluses - are very bad, don't buy them.
Adonit Jot - better for writing.
A tablet with digitizer stylus will be probably a much better choice for taking handwritten notes (although I'm not sure if accuracy of those kind of styluses is enough for easy writing).
Hi!
Thanks a lot all the answers. I see that this Adonit Jot is the way to go. Another thing, when I write on paper, e usually do a lot of pressure, if I accidentally put to much pressure writing can I wreck the screen/pen? Thanks again.

Please do additional research on the Jot before you purchase it. Read the entire thread from start to finish than google it and read others opinions. There is a lot of problems with skipping but than again alot of people have no issues with it. I guess the luck of the draw.
I do a lot of handwriting each day for work and i tried the jot but had issues so i returned it- it wasn;t for me- I went back to my cheap Acase II stylus purchased on Ebay $9.95 delivered. And it works the best. One thing to do when you use a rubber tip stylus is to clean your screen than coat it with RainX and you will have no binding of the rubber tip stylus. And minimal fingerprints- will need to recoat once a month.
I use Antipaper, Supernote and Genial writer, Another one which is new but will be good is Phatpad- this one needs some improvement but keep watching for additional updates before you purchase it.
Good luck.
Edit: I forgot to mention this beta app i just started using- 7Notes handwriting recongnition works great so far- also works with evernote

Thanks a lot for your opinion. Just one thing, what is this RainX coating? I'm not sure I´ve understood what it does. About the App, i've been playing with supernote, and it isn't the type of App I was looking for. My idea is an App with Blank pages where I can copy things from de board in class, just like a normal printer paper. Thanks again!

You can find Rainx in any auto section of any store. It is a wax'ish coating that you apply to glass. ( you can not put it over a screen protector- only use if you don't use a screen protector.) I have been using it for well over a year on a few devices and it works great. really cuts down on fingerprints and makes your stylus smoothly work on the screen,
For your note taking are you looking to draw diagrams along with notes or just notes. If just notes than genial writer is the smoothest note taker. but if you need to draw diagrams etc than some of the others listed. What problems do you have with supernote- maybe we can help.
Thanks for the info. I need to take notes and also draw some circuits and graphs. My problem with Supernote is that I've never used it before =P, but now I think I can make it work for what I want. Thanks!
Skipping is easy to fix with conductive grease (or toothpaste). I just did second test after a few weeks of first applying the toothpaste - I had to replace the toothpaste because it dried out but after that the writing is without skipping and doesn't require any force again. (coductive grease wouldn't require replacing so often).

Hand on touch screen
awesome thread. i was actually looking for something like this but i got other question. when you get the stylus do you have to keep your hand of the touch screen? when you're writing on paper your pen just follow your hand but on touchscreen it might be tricky right?this is software thing for sure. So finally my question can some of the apps you mentioned handle this? That is just recognize the "sharp" stylus and not your "huge" hand?
I used to have trouble with it, but I just write like I would "properly" or as a Chinese calligraphy thingie.
Hand on touch screen
ok never mind. found it. http://www.xda-developers.com/android/writepad-handwriting-optimised-for-stylus-beta-testers-required/

awesome Discovery, i think

I have an old Motion tablet that has a stylus as well. this stylus also has a button on the side that mimics the s-pen, but the really cool part, it has a function were when i flip the stylus over and try to erase something on the screen like you would with a pencil it acts as an eraser, IT WORKS ON THE NOTE TOO!! so no tapping the eraser just use it like a real pen. ill try to post a video, and its a lot easier to write with
http://youtu.be/T_K57DNBgXc
Great find. Do you have the model number for the stylus. When I search online, I find some similar but they dont look like the one in your video.
Wow... that is really interesting. Why would they have have that ability programmed in but not have given the s-pen that capability? (Or does it and I've just never tried?)
s pen doesnt do it i tried, any motion stylus should work, but heres a link to google shopper and it says with eraser
http://www.google.com/products/cata...&sa=X&ei=cD2HT81mhdzRAeqJ9NYH&ved=0CEYQ8wIwAw
my stylus on my HP elitebook 2740p does the same thing. Thought I posted that somewhere here. Still pretty cool
does it have the little button on the side as well?
Thanks for the heads up I enjoy drawing on the Note and the s pen, while I love it, just isn't big or sturdy enough imo. I tend to press pretty hard while drawing though. Anyway this looks cool, and I'll have to check it out.

Not sure but if you watch videos of the galaxy note 10.1 the s-pen with it does have an eraser. Maybe they didn't think it would be practicle since you can erase with the same end you draw with. Who knows but I feel like they should've added it. I also seen a pen holder for the s-pen that has an eraser on it.
