Tmobile wifi calling, - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Is there a ROM in the Tmobile section that we could flash on our phones to get wifi calling working on our unlocked galaxy 2, I'm using Tmobile Sim
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App

Probably would not be possible since the T-Mobile Galaxy S II is significantly different in hardware ie different radio, CPU, GPU, etc.
I would strongly advise against trying to flash one of their ROMs on your ATT GS2. If anything sell your ATT GS2 and get the T-Mobile version if you want all of T-Mobile's features.
Maybe you could figure out if the app or settings that allow WiFi calling could be integrated into your phone which I think is kind of far fetched as well. Good luck.

dont listen to him, dont just randomly flash a ROM that wasnt made for the ATT GS2

That is what I said in my post. I would never advise anyone to do anything that can and will brick their phone. You should read my post before responding so quickly.

Ok, thanks guys

In the worst case, download GrooVe IP and then you can use wifi GMail calling.

Q- Tmobile WiFi calling app

I searched a bit bit can't seem to find an answer to this, which surprises me. Had anyone gotten the tmobile WiFi calling app to work on the At&t Note? I know there are options, but none seem to work as well as the one that comes straight from tmobile.

I gave up on that thing about six weeks ago. Now I use Viber. It works in any country I've been in, on wifi or cellular data.
T-Mobile WiFi calling is tied up in the kernel, to my knowledge you would need a custom kernel for it to work, or a hack that adds the necessary data to the kernel to make it work. I have a T-Mobile HD2 and when I was using it , tons of kernel modding went into making WiFi calling because of course the hd2 wasn't originally android and it needed a modded kernel to make it work, and even after it working it wasn't very stable .
RoloRacer Paranoid on JellyBean
I've been searching for weeks as well and came up with nothing. I've read that it's part of the kernel, part of the TouchWiz framework, etc. Seems there's way too many factors to get the native wifi calling for t-mobile. Apparently, back in the day t-mobile was using GAN based wifi calling, and it was an app. People got it to work on the t-mobile sensation 4g, but that's an HTC phone so it won't work for us. I was reading up on a thread in the galaxy s2 forums of some devs trying to get the native wifi calling on that device (FYI, tmo now uses an IMS based wifi calling structure) and there's a lot of work involved, including modifying some of the framework files, the phone apk and the settings apk.
The best solution at this point is to just flash the Tmo Note stock ROM in the Tmo Note Dev forum. User Tomin.fhl was kind enough to make it flashable and wifi calling works great for me on that. Just wish I was able to use AOKP or PA with wifi calling though
Yeah, I figured out how to get it done, just flash the TMobile stock ROM which is fine with me since I'm on TMobile and actually like the stock... Then you need a new Sim.
Sent from my SGH-T879 using Tapatalk 2
Dont you need the AWS chip for that stuff, isnt this a hardware limitation??????
Whatever you need is already built into our phones. I have been using the tmobile WiFi calling feature in my at&t note for a while now. No problems.

If you follow the instructions to flash any stock based T-Mobile ROM onto your i717, it will be there. You need a new SIM though.

GrooVeIP will let you do voip (3g and wifi)
just make sure to set your gvoice account to use your email address as the primary number.
voila! incoming and outgoing voip calls (works for every carrier i've come across)
Wondering if anyone has seen anything on this for the note? I recently moved and tmobile service sucks but I get a good wifi signal in my apartment! Just wondering if there is any other solutions besides gvoice...I get free minutes when I use wifi calling also with tmobile so it would be awesome if it could be incorporated.
Yeah, while there are 3rd party solutions like GrooveIP, the best solution is to follow the link I posted and flash the T Mobile note img file and install the tmobile stock ROM which includes the true tmobile WiFi calling feature.

If you follow the link, toward the bottom of the first post there are instructions on running T-mobile ROM's on the i717. Follow those and you won't have any problems. I also have the at&t version, I believe though, you will have to be on the t-mobile network.

Yes, right now I am using my note on tmobile, so I guess it has been flashed to or with some other firmware....So would I still need a new sim I do not see why I would.....So you are saying just flashing a tmobile compatible rom. Do you have any suggestions? Maybe one with less bloatware and better battery life.

Might want to make a guide on how to do this. I feel like the T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling is in silent but in high demand by unlocked users.
I'm curious...if the T-Mobile stock ROMs work, why wouldn't a custom ROM for Tmobile also work? Has anyone tried?

Getting Jellybean on the I9300 that works with T-mobile service in the United States.

Hey guys, I am in need of some help. I cannot seem to find the right keywords to return the search results I need.
I know there are plenty of battle tested Jellybean roms for the International (which I own). My problem is getting one that supports the kernels necessary for me to achieve service with my T-mobile provider her in America.
If anyone would be willing to link me to a JB Rom that will cure this ailment I would be deeply obliged.

I installed the i9300XXDLI6 (4.1.1) FIRMWARE and I still have the issue of forever roaming. I can select t-mobile as my network and it registers. However, I have the roaming r above my signal bars because my phone thinks I am out of my "international" coverage zone.
So I need a link to a leaked jellybean and or created jellybean firmware that will work with T-mobile service in the U.S.
Hence the reason why I made this post. It is very easy to find a jellybean firmware that will work on an i9300 for a person that lives in the UK. However it is proving very difficult to do the same for an i9300 owner in the U.S.
Any help would be much obliged.

I think your on to something here. I would love to know which modem will allow me to achieve service with T-mobile in America. I know personally that I can rule out the LFB and LG8 and LE8 modems. Any others you think are worth trying? Or do you know which one will for sure work? I have tried googling this before and was unable to yield any results. It would seem that owning a quad core phone for other T-mobile users in America was not a very high priority.

I am using Hot Mobile in Israel and have the same problem. I have tried the modem from the stock ROM with out any success which leads me to be believe the modem is NOT the issue. Anybody else have any ideas. I have the right CSC and the modem from stock ROM but it is stuck on roaming.
The hardware can only connect to certain frequencies, if your companies 3G band/s don't fall under those specific bands, you will ROAM or be on 2G...
You probably ARE roaming on AT&T or a small local GSM provider. A T-Mobile branded handset probably wouldn't show you that if they had a seamless roaming agreement. So you'd see E instead.
No matter what ROM you install on the i9300, it's not gonna fix your T-Mobile problem.

Shouldn't make a difference if you have an international factory unlocked GT-I9300. I originally had AT&T service which was roaming all of the time due to no coverage in my area. I dropped AT&T for a local pre-paid service which is owned by t-mobile, I am no longer roaming (on any rom i've flashed, custom or official). If you have an unlocked i9300, ANY rom in these forums will work on any carrier as long as you have the right sim card.
Power phone off, remove sim card. Power phone on for a few minutes. Pull battery for 30 seconds, reinsert sim card, insert battery, boot phone. Don't know much else you could do. Modem is not the issue if you are getting signal.
BTW, there are plenty of U.S. TMO gt-i9300 owners here, your the first to mention any issue like this.
Yupp plenty of US Tmobile GT-I9300 users on 2G. Hardware DOES NOT SUPPORT THE RIGHT BANDS...

But when I didn't have root the roaming was never there. Or when I rooted and flashed the stock firmware I didn't have it. I don't think it is an issue of my data roaming or my phone not having service in my area. I'm not sure what it is but it has not always been there and only returns when I try to put a cool Rom on it like Omega or Viking.

You can it just is 2g data. Which is fine if you are on WiFi 90% of the time like me
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I actually have a different problem. TMobile in Seattle has repurposed their 1900Mhz band for 3g. I've verified this by putting in my sim into an optimus 2 that has no support for 1700MHz, and I was able to connect to 3g fine. On my i9300, it just doesn't go above edge. I've played around with the radio forcing it to do WCDMA only, and the darn thing just wouldn't connect. The phone is mostly stock, I flashed it with CWM recovery, and SuperNexus. It's running the i9300XXLH1 baseband which it had when I got the phone. I still get edge and the reception is definitely a modest improvement over an aging nexus one which this replaced.
I think 1900 works in LA/San Francisco as well - if any of you guys have been able to connect to tmobile 3G on a i9300, can you share your config? Worst case, I think I should just try what the ATT guys are using, but any pointers before I start this wild goose chase will be useful :good:

I realize that the T999 version offers the best national coverage, but they've started work on refarming the frequency in Seattle. An optimus 2x which supports a subset of 3g bands of the i9300 was able to connect to tmobile 3g using my same sim card. I couldn't find a better news source, but this site says what Ive seen: okay, I can't post a url here, but the first google result for tmobile 1900mhz seattle. Basically, any AT&T 3g phone should work on tomobile in my area since the optimus experiment was successful.

Note supports all frequencies required for Wind or any AWS carriers. T-Mobile Galaxy Note has the same hardware as AT&T or any Canadian Galaxy Note. So, if the phone is unlocked, it should work no matter where the phone was from.
You just need to find the right modem to work with Wind. Try different ones and see which one works.
Unlocking the phone doesn't change the frequencies that it can pick up does it I thought that was hardwired with the attenae
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
From what I read flashing new modem still won't give you a solid connection. Look for a T-mobile note or save up for the AWS Note2.
Its not worth it to carry around an unstable phone, what happens when you need it in an emergency?

"supports" and works correctly are not the same. I can put low octane gasoline in my car, and it will run, but it will run very poorly. My experience will suffer compared to the experience of running with the correct fuel.
I'm just saying since we have the versions for both networks, get the best phone, and quit working so hard to have only a so-so experience.

My point is that T-Mo Note is the same as all other Note hardware-wise. The only difference is that T-Mo is locked to its network with its own software.
To use Wind, he is going to have to unlock the phone with T-Mo or other carrier-locked Note. So, if he already has a Note in-hand, it is just a matter of finding the right ROM/radio/modem.
IF current radio/modem selections really are less than 100% stable, it is OP's decision to find a T-Mo Note (if that guarantees 100% stable service), or to wait for new radio/modem.

Clearly, this guy has no problem with Wind, and there is a working solution out there. OP just needs to work a little to find it.
If you flash a t-mobile rom on the at&t phone and vise-versa, neither phone works correctly. So they may look the same on paper but they are not the same inside.
If you think they are the same hardware, go to the t-mobile note development thread and flash the stock ICS and you will find out they are not the same.

Check the base band, it will tell you which radio it's using, out of the box will not work with Wind
Most likely some body already flashed a compatible radio to it before you had it

No rom has broken wifi.
To get mms working you need a rom that's gsm only/based off the butterfly.
The sim error is a hardware issue. It has nothing to do with the rom your running or the fact that your using gsm.
And this is strictly a Verizon phone.

newsflash: this is a STRICTLY a vzw phone
because verizon made it (and most of its lte phones) "global" phones to support its customers who travel overseas, its possible to use on gsm networks....which is great and may gsm users pick up verizon devices now
this doesnt mean however, that everything is going to work perfectly for using the dna on other providers.....do not confuse this phone with an unlocked non-branded device....it was created as a verizon lte device
well i live on mexico and i use GSM... and i dont have any issue and my phone is a Verizon...
SIM errors can be fixed by putting a piece of scotch tape on the plastic (read: the side without the metal contacts) side of the SIM. This is a common issue in HTC phones with a SIM tray instead of a slot.

I just don't understand why someone would buy this phone, expecting to use it on a different carrier. Why not use a phone designed for that carrier's network? That's like buying a phone that is S-on and expecting S-off. You can hope it comes along, but to just expect it is unrealistic.
Yes, I get that the specs on this phone are/were a motivator, but it's not fair to the phone to get mad because you can't make the phone do something it was never advertised to do. And despite the claims to the contrary, some ROMs work just fine for what you're trying to do.

Okay, to this was a short-lived thread for a reason. But, since it's been revived I'll add that I bought a nice used DNA and I'm a T-Mo customer. Even stock, it worked great on T-Mo here. Granted, I don't live in a 4G T-Mo area anyway so I'm not missing the latest in high-speed data.... anyway, stock I was very pleased. The only thing which didn't work was the wifi hotspot.
Move forward a couple of weeks and now I'm running NOS M7 on it. Thanks to this great forum for the help with that. Wifi hotspot works great, the ROM is robust, and I couldn't be happier.
So, I'm not on Verizon. I'll be using this on T-Mo in the States and on a couple of foreign SIMs when traveling for work. And I love the DNA.

Anyone have any insight on what is required or if possible to have wifi calling on an unlocked/rooted VZW Note II running on TMO network?

I was trying to get it working on a Verizon ROM I really liked. There were 3 libs and two apks I found linked to it.i never did get it working because there's also frame work references to it. Have you tried a tmo ROM to see if it would work?

I considered that but I am enjoying JellyBeans 14 w/Saber 21 far too much LOL
I may just sell the sch-i605 and pick up a retail boxed TMO version if I do anything. I also used the S4 for a couple of hours it I really cant get over the larger screen and real estate of the Note II ; so I wouldnt consider it an "upgrade". My Note II with an Antutu of 19K+ I really dont have any true use for the faster CPU of the S4 right now......

please correct me if i am wrong but i don't think this is even close to possible as wifi calling is not necessarily as software hack but this is something actually built into tmo mobile spectrum similar to like vzw's using data while on a phone call, i recall a verizon rep telling me this.

From what I have dug up and seen thus far its basically a SIP client with tmo ties back to the android framework. It has nothing to do with the tmo spectrum aside from which band your transmitting over as it is a glorified VoIP client from anything I can tell.

Not "in the spectrum". It connects to the carrier over the internet, the normal cellular signal isn't involved at all. It requires both a helper app and framework support for it to happen though, and that stuff would only be present in the T-Mo firmware.
Here's a brief primer on it: http://www.wificalling.net/whatiswificalling/

The part you're referring to is actually controlled by the sim card. But add stated there's a lot else just to get it running

There is a lot of stuff in the framework that needs added as well, on top of the APKs and LIBs. I believe most of it is in framework2.jar.

You are def right. Was pouring through the tmo apk and then the decompiled framework2 and see its in IPCallTracker , IPPhoneProxy , IPUtils , WifiCallSwitchPreference and score of other places.....
This will not be a simple apk and lib drop .
