You probably want to split the movie up in to multiple files smaller than 4gb.

...or compress it.

Compression hurts. I'd split it.
Fat32 devices cannot handle 4GB+ files though, sorry op.

file size

Sorry if this has been answered before.
I try to move a 6 gb file to either internal or external SD card and keep getting the message that the file is too large for the destination folder.
Are there limitations for the file size? If so what are they?
Thanks!

I'm guessing that both the internal and external SD cards are formatted as FAT32? If so, FAT32 filesystems have a file size limitation of 2^32−1 (4,294,967,295) bytes.
That makes sense. Thank you for the help.

Usb mass storage help

Hi iv connected my phone to my pc via usb I wanted to transfer 10GB file size over on to my sd card but it says file destination too small when there is enough space as my card is 16gb, any help please?
Your sd may be 16gb but you can use only 11.50 gb as the rest are used by the phone.. So I guess you have used over 1.50 gb already and there is not enough space... Try through an external sd or free some space...

But it says I have 11.5gb free?
The file size is only 9.75gb
I see that there is a usb storage in 11.50gb and a system storage in 1.97 gb. Maybe the second is for the applications and is taken from the usb storage...
Why does the phone use 4.5GB of the SD cards space? I thought there was internal storage too.

Yeah I thought so too but somehow it does...

But my external sd card is 16gb and 11.5gb is free on that
It's not only one file, is it? The file system (fat32) can't handle such big files.

Yeah it is fat32, and yeah it is one file. Is there a way around this?
Fat32 can only handle file sizes of around 4GB each time. So each file you want to transfer can only be around 4GB in size. I believe the SGS2 works with an NTFS formatted card, and with NTFS you can transfer any file size.
Can the file you are trying to transfer be broken up into small segments or must it remain as a 10GB file?
Chris.

It's a video file. So must stay as one. I'll try to convert sd card as ntfs
S2 can't recognise ntfs
Are you sure? Pretty sure I read somewhere that it does. Oh well, is fat32 the only format it reads?

Seems to be, because when formatted to NTFS it says unrecognised format please reformat
Anybody else got ideas?
Try encode with smaller bit rate and smaller resolution?

Is there a way to use NTFS on SD card in GS3?

I have read that some kernels allow sd card to be formatted NTFS and mounted to use in Android. Is this true? I would like to use my new 64gb sd card to copy large files using NTFS. What about xFat? Does Android recognize this?
ExFat works fine. My 64 GB card was recognized right out of the package.
Will exfat let me copy large files say 5-10 gigs each? Fat32 of course does not. Sorry for noob questions. Thanks for info.

Exfat does work with large files. It might not work with non stock kernels though.

64 GB SDCard is useless ?

Hi,
i have a 64 gb sdcard and it seems useless to me since i found out that "moving android/data/xy" to sdcard doesnt work. (btw the app wants to download all data again because he dont "looks" if there are the data on sdcard) Is there a workaround? Im thinking about a 16 GB sdcard then... :/
For Game Loft games and a few others, I use the app 'GL to SD' - works great!

micro sd card is quite cheap now , get at least a min 32gb , now i dont even know what to do with my old 8 gb card , use it as a toothpic ? lol
And that does not work with CM 10 without apps?
What are theese apps exactly do? Isnt there anything possible to do without extra apps? I have much time!
use GL to SD
else, format it as fat32 and use directory bind

There is a mod out there which switches your internal sd into external and vice versa, so you have 64GB internal sd storage after installing that mod.

New Files getting deleted

I have a 32 GB SDHC card with Fat32... When I ever transfer new files to it somehow gets deleted. What is causing this?
Are you telling the app you're using to delete files after they transfer? Maybe you're not looking in the correct location for them. Anything is possible.
I think it's a problem with the SanDisc SD Cards.

just to let you know, fat32 will not allow files over 4gb. so are you saying that they are a bunch of smaller files??
if so then please answer this:
after the file/files get deleted, does the amount of free space go back up or does it seem to say the same?
the only thing as of right now that i can suggest is that you need to take the card out of your player and plug it into your computer and format it again
Are you transferring them on your device from internal to external SD or on a PC?
If on your device, which program to move files?
We should establish that first.
I am using a PC to transfer this files Drag N Drop File size is not over 4GB .. just music MP3s and some apps. The amount of free space changes after it gets deleted,
