As the title states, I am looking for a way to do the 2.3.4 OTA while rooted. Is this possible?
You'll have to give more information.
View or flyer?
There's different RUU's you can download for both.
If you're revolutionary s-off'ed and rooted on stock 2.3.3, you can do the mini update to 2.3.4.
BestBuy WiFi only Flyer. I am revolutionary s-off stock rom. If I try to do the update, I get a white triangle with ! inside and a blue droid.
I'm unfamiliar with the Flyer roms, hopefully someone more knowledgeable in them can add.
I was able to update my s-offed 2.3.3 revolutionary View using the 2.3.4 release 1 RUU that football uploaded in the development thread. According to globatron's sticky in development, it seems the RUUs for each version of gingerbread are interchangeable, but I only know this for the View.
It's not the best idea to do OTAs when you altered your device in any way, especially when you can just flash a rom with that update not too long after it's out. OTAs are under the impression that you had everything the way it was when you bought it, and this is not the case.

Just flash stock recovery, then it's fine to take OTA updates.

so i have a rooted but not rom'd Flyer, I look to the threads on "ROM's" for the rom required to set to stock for the future honeycomb OTA update(my source says thursday afternoon), but the rom download site(filefactory) gets 96-98% complete and then gives me a interrupted error. i have tried my WIFI hotspot (VZW) my Thunderbolt and its Hotspot, my home WIFI, and My Work Wifi(T1) not to bash ya'll cuz ya'll have all the know how, but if your such a reputable site, when cant yall use a real fileserver vs a spam server? any legit file server out there for the BB HTC flyer running Gingerbread, but not the newest update?
And before some one jumps my case for not posting in developer thread, this is my FIRST post on here EVER! pull your ten post requirement or understand that some ppl. may do this kind of stuff for a living! and still may be a Noob to the site!
Are you asking someone to upload the RUU you need to a different server? I'm assuming you need the 1.36 brightstar RUU.
You are likely s off and should make sure you read thus otherwise your hboot will not change
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19339909
If you are interestedin honeycomb I would suggest using globatrons s off honeycomb method as you will maintain root and have the same version of honeycomb.
In regards to the ruu.exe dl failing, yes the file server it is linked to sucks but it is available for free and many of us are greatful for that. There may be some other links out there. I have the ruu downloaded as well as the Rom zip extracted. If you have no luck come tomorrow night I can probably upload to megaupload

yea
I need the newest rom that came in the form of a OTA, I wanted to stick with the stock but want to keep up to date. I wont run a custom rom until HTC writes off the flyer(i really want ICS but dont see it happening in the form of a OTA). i am S-off (with Revolutionary) and rooted
As a best buy flyer there is no official Ota atm

If you don't root your device now and get full S-Off you may not be able to do it in the future, There are no guarantees that the latest HBOOT of official Honeycomb will ever be S-Off'd so at that point you may not be able to have the ability to install custom roms once HTC stops supporting the Flyer.
You can keep "stock" Rom using Globatron method which is exactly the same as the official release with only an S-Off'd HBOOT and Root added to the Rom. I highly recommend this and not installing any official HC RUU or OTA's
The ROM posted by globatron is the same as the official one being rolled out in Europe currently. I don't expect the Best Buy version to be any different. If you want HC, just do the globatron method.
If you install the HC OTA (if/when it rolls our) and want root, you will be required to accept your warranty is voided to get the unlocked bootloader from HTC.
Ok, I want to keep up to date, with a semi stock ROM, what do Ya'll suggest i do? I dont want a custom rom just yet.(not a whole lot to choose from for the flyer anyways) i want to update to honeycomb, and eventually ICS if a rom becomes available?
and MChord, i was following the guide in the thread that you quoted, but cant get the rom due to file factory's inept ability, every time i try to extract the Rom.zip, it gives me a invalid or damaged zip file error and im not sure which one is newer, Brightstar 1.36 or Brightstar 2.27
1.36 is the stock version that came with the device. 2.27 is the update to 2.3.4 that was rolled out. If you can not get the dl to work then yes you can not get the rom zip either. I can later tonight load the rom zip from the ruu to an alternative download site. Probably wont be till close to 8 pm eastern standard time.
In regards to a stock rom vs a custom rom. The rom in globatron's hc with s off is stock rooted with s off on honeycomb. At the moment that is the only stock honeycomb you can run as there is no ota. If you want to wait for the ota it is your choice.
not sure why i did this but here you go
follow directions on this thread if you are looking to revert stock s off from gingerbread. proceedure is different from honeycomb

extracted hboot

md5 ad6a1c457622bc00ba473e7284a4167e
if not on best buy flyer these files are useless to you. as stated earlier if your desire is stock hc with root and s off globatrons thread is the place to go. these are valuable files in any case for emergency purposes. the rom zip wont flash if it does not match your device so the md5 is not as relevant. the hboot is and if incorrect could be a concern. the hboot version is hboot_1.10.0000_54.img which should match what was stock on your best buy flyer. CHECK MD5 SUM!
thanks again, I hit the Thanks button too...
i cant get the checksum's to match up, I keep getting one character off
E: on the 500mb file only
I will double check likely a typo

I'm new around and had a Q: How can I un-root the EVO View tablet, its running GB 2.3.4 with s-off.
I've done dozens of searches and any ruu backups I've found for a stock restore has been dead links. I would like to be able to upgrade to HC.
Is there any way to do this?
See the flyer development forum. The info is there to un-root and S-On for the View/Flyer
Thank you I'll go check it out.

It was rooted using "revolutionary"
Ok was looking around and I still need the RUU for my Evo View that was on GB 2.3.4 all the links I've been finding are dead, is there any way to just do a straight upgrade to HC rather then have to find the RUU I need??
I have the current HC RUU file, I don't care for keeping my View rooted I found no major benefits besides removing junk apps.
Any help plz!
Just ordered one today and want to be prepared when it arrives. Looked through the dev section but wanted to get opinions from some people here.
It says it will be shipping with Gingerbread. What is the best way to root with Gingerbread? Would it be this link?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194709
In the end I would like to have Honeycomb running on my device rooted. Can I just run it like that and flash a honeycomb Rom? I saw a thread with people having to flash back to Gingerbread to get the official Honeycomb Rom. What would be the point or advantage to this? I am definitely not new to rooting and like to be there when the device first rolls out so I am there from the start but I am juming into this device pretty late to the party so there seems like a few different options to go with.
Appreciate any help with an overview and best direction to go. I am sure others who purchased the device today would find this useful as well.....
Thanks in advance guys...Looking forward to hanging with the view folks. Seems like a cool crowd!
That would be the best way.
If you want to go to Honeycomb and retain the root/S-OFF (google that if you dont know) then you must follow this guide to go to Honeycomb:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409306
If you want stock Honeycomb with NO ROOT you should NOT ROOT Gingerbread and just check for over the air updates.

OK follow that guide.
You can't just flash a HC ROM over Gingerbread, because the hboot versions are different. Once you have followed that guide, you can flash and Honeycomb ROM.
Also I don't thing that HTC updated the View's hboot. You can check by rebooting while holding the volume done key and you will see hboot version.

Cool, thanks...that pretty much answered my question why you couldn't just flash a honeycomb ROM over a rooted gingerbread ROM.
Hi peeps.
i just got my cowboom flyer it was on 1.10 hboot GB. SO i easily use revolutionary method for S-ff .Now am S-off and i wanna upgrade to HC but i still wannna be rooted. If i accept HC update will it break my root? I read other forums for HC update but its kind of confusing. I read that HC will break gps is that true? how about custom HC roms? is custom HC roms also break the gps? which one is thre best HC custom rom for flyer
Read Globatron's thread. You can install his routed stock ruu. So you can keep the stock set up, but remain rooted. Our you can then upgrade and flash custom HC ROMs.

yeah sorry for short explanation. Actually i used the P41IMG image from above link and then i saw the warning that its not full rom it will just give u HTC logo.
Then i flashed lee-droid custom rom and now everything works fine except my camera. Camera is upside down. other than that everything works. Any known good and stable GB custom rom in case u know?
As the title states, I'm just curious what I need to have done to be ready for the OTA update.
Currently I'm on the ICS leaked firmware, running CleanROM 4.3. Do I need to S-Off?
I would just wait until it gets incorporated into CleanRom after the official version comes out.

I would think you would need to s-off so you could RUU back to gingerbread. Then you could receive an update.
You don't do anything. Let our great devs update their coding based off OTA. It's usually a good idea to not take OTAs right away. Never know what kind of hidden security patches may be included. I would hold off until you hear some news pertaining to what the update provides and if it's safe to flash.

I'm with the original poster. I would like to know if there is step by step instructions on how to unroot my phone if I need to to get the update. Or would just relocking be enough to get it? I'm currently on cleanrom de 1.2. Also, are we supposed to get sense 4.0 or 3.6 with this, or does anybody know?

I agree and wouldn't sweat it at all. Once it becomes official the devs will do what they do and we'll have plenty of options for the upgrade.
to actually answer the question that was asked, the easiest way is to just flash the leaked or stock RUU if that's what you want. you won't lose s-off, and you'll be updated like anyone else. You won't be root, of course, since it's a stock ruu. you'll still be able to flash a non stock rom later, load amon-ra, etc.
there may be a rooted stock rom out there that i don't know about that will do the same for you. i've not dug too heavily into the stock rom scene, since i prefer a rom with a lot of features.

The only thing I would do for now is to S-Off just in case this new update makes it impossible to S-Off after updating the system. As others have said you should wait until after Devs have time to play around with the OTA and incorporate it into ROMs before going ahead and flashing it.
S-off first, then just run the most current official gb ruu and don't unlock it or change recovery until after you have the ota update. I will personally wait for the official ics ruu (probably from football) and then run that and start from scratch.

so i'm on CleanRom 4.3 standard, unlocked and rooted, s-on, stock firmware.
can you get s-off from here?
this root/unlock buisness is cray maybe I need to give up..
I kinda want to be ready for the ICS OTA but I guess I might as well wait for CleanROM to be updated. But then am I going to need s-off at all ever?
what do
Since you didn't do the Leak, You don't need S-OFF. if you don't want it.
Just wait until the Dev releases it and forget about the OTA.

I'm on the leak also I'm hopping it isn't like the the Eris or Incredible leak, which ever it was. To many phone's to keep track of Lol.
