Today I installed Samsung Kies. Then I connected my Tab 8.9.
When it all seemed fine and dandy, I selected "Apps" in Kies. Then Kies tells me an update must be installed. The update install then fails for some reason.
Next step is that Samsung Apps tells me the Samsung apps are incompatible with the Galaxy Tab 8.9
Has anyone else noticed or knowledge about this behavior? I am using Windows 7/64 bit. Is anyone else using this and also using Samsung Kies to install apps out of the Samsung store?
Kies is trash, plain and simple.
Also, the Samsung app market is empty. Plain empty. Just use the Android Market, seriously.
Both Kies and Samsung Apps work fine on my XP machine; the latter also works fine on the GT8.9 (except for the bug requiring flight mode to be off even with a Wi-Fi connection enabled) though I bought mine in Hong Kong.
They both work fine on mine as well. No problem with either. Kies connects and updates and Samsung Apps has a lot of apps to download. I have the 8.9 Wifi Tab and purchased in the US.
Kies, most wifi transfer programs are sucky at best. its faster and easier just to connect their USB, takes 3 seconds longer then connecting to a kies
That being said, both Samsung Apps and Kies both work on my tablet. even downloaded a Samsung App just to make sure. Heavy Gunner 3D was free in Samsung Apps but $4.99 in Android Market. Both work and connect fine. On Stock 3.1 w touchwiz and rooted with custom 3.2 and 4.0 ROM's
I am using the 7310 tegra 2 wifi version of the 8.9
Kies has only worked once for me and that was the verry first time. It updated my 7310 to HC 3.2 and then It never connected again. Tried on 3 different PC's. One windows 7 64bit and two windows xp.
Kies alternative
Hi,
is there any othe program available to supplement KIES ??

Don't mess with Kies when you can get a great wifi transfer app for under 2 bucks:

Hello,
I think I've found a problem with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, and Kies breaking on it. I bought one last Saturday, and got it replaced yesterday thinking it was broken (Phoned Samsung support and was told to get it replaced), but I can replicate the issue consistently on this one too (worked out apparent steps an hour ago).
Steps (starting with a factory reset/new tablet):
1. Click 'Kies via Wifi' to open the popup to select computer.
2. Open task manager, click 'Clear Memory'.
3. Click 'Kies via Wifi' again.
On step 3 the screen greys out but does not show the popup. Turning the tablet back off and on again does not solve it. I have so far only managed to correct it with a 'Factory Reset'.
When Kies is broken like this my PC (Windows 7 64bit) cannot connect over USB either - it times out 'Connecting...'.
Is this a known issue? (Can it be caused with any other steps people know of?)
Is Samsung aware of it if others can do it?
In regard to avoiding this problem, will the Android OS manage my memory so that I should never really need to use 'Clear Memory'? I'm a tidy person, and so have been using it quite often. Should I not be using it?
Thanks in advance for any answers
same
I have the same issue and it is annoying. I also tend to clear memory the whole time cause I had a windows mobile device ages ago and it is a habit now. I even do it on my ipad and iphone by double clicking home
Kies service breaks everytime for me and the only way to bet it back currently is to do a factory reset. I decided to stop using kies. just copy the files to the sd folder.
As a side note : How can I get plex to work on my p7500 32 gb 3 g vodacom tablet? It seems that vodacom will only get an update in 6 month's time.
Regards,
Kies issue
Yes, just got my samsung galaxy 10.1
Kies wifi does not connect after I activated it and cleared memory. I get a greyed out screen
USB connection now also fails with direct connect.
Managed to connect to Kies once before I activated the Kies Wifi
I suppose I will need to factory reset!
I've been using my tablet for two weeks or so now, without clearing memory and kies hasn't broken since. I guess it's a work around.
I think I've seen mention that the recent bug fix is supposed to solve some issue with kies, but I haven't yet been able to get my tablet to see the upgrade.

I too had the grey screen when pressing "Kies via Wifi". 2 factory resets later and I found the solution. Go into Samsung App Store (the one with the little coloured circles and the white light coming from above, not the Samsung Hub) and search for the Kies Saver Wifi.
It says to click on Recover which I did. Since then, no grey screen, Kies Wifi connects first time every time and Kies via the USB cable works too.
Hope it helps
not working yet

Same problem here
I get 1 result when I search for 'kies' in Samsung Apps.
It says it's compatible with HoneyComb 3.0. I can't see any other reason why it wouldn't show up for you though unfortunately.
I haven't actually tried it myself yet, so I can't vouch for its effectiveness. Not clearing memory has been good enough for me so far.
Can anyone send or upload me please kies saver apk? In german samsung apps isn't this app.
And i can't find everywhere else. I've got the same problem.
Im getting sick of this sh*t
it does not connect kies with usb or wifi..
I cannot find an app to fix it or whatever.
what im supposed to do next?
Hi,
I recently upgraded my galaxy tab 10.1 to the cm9 ics rom. However, i cant seem to be able to mount the micro sd card on my PC. The tablet charges when its connected to the computer but thats all that happens. What an I do to fix this problem and are there any alternatives so that i can transfer files to my tablet.

Thank you. I know it seems simple, and once I did it I felt dumb for not checking MTP. So your little suggestion helped.
Prior to this, I had been doing things the long way... downloading files, moving them to my file server, then copying from server to tablet. Dumb, but it worked.
answer to galaxy problem connecting to computer
The best way to connect your Galaxy Tablet to your pc is Go to Google Play, download the Kies Air App to your tablet, follow simple instructions and you'll be 100% pleased! NO bs, no nothing but a solid Connection! You're not even required to connect your Tablet to your computer! I just tried it and it works beautifully!
Has anyone got this to work on their computer?
Ive been trying for hours to and nothing Just doesn't see my phone.

As in taking a phone call and sending messages?
Was just introduced in the last update the other day but following the steps it still refuses to work. A quick google suggests other people are having issues as well

Huh? Trying to answer your question?!?
Neo - are you being a smart a#s when I am just trying to answer your question about "is Kies working", or am I just misinterpreting your response to my post?

Yes, i think you are misinterpreting my response. I'm also not asking if Kies is working. I am asking if Kies Air Message is working.
I can get Kies Air to work fine. What i cant get to work is the new addition in the last 5 days to kies that enables you to make calls and texts on the PC...
Neo - thanks for clarifying. You're back on my Christmas list.
I am having the same issue and already spent quite some time trying to get it to work. Kies air message is either the problem locally on the client machine or it might just be the kies air application on the device with scanning for a kies air server. I will continue to try and if any progress is made I will surely share...
I too am having an issue with kies air message. I just decided to try it out and cant get it to work even though it connects to kies air easily :/
same problem here it says that no device is running kies air
Hey - there is an update to Keis Air app in the Play store.
You may need to make sure you have the most recent update for this to work.
...and I know this sounds simple and the app should be set to auto-update but mine was too and didn't.
The new pin code authentication is a bit of a pain to get working too. I kept getting two one for the message tool and one for the Kies air main window... one code hid the other, which was the one it actually needed ON BOTH!
FX
I had it briefly working (GT-S6500D) by sheer coincidence.
So at the end of last month the Kies Air-update was causing problems with my phone rebooting all the time, where before at least I could go to the IP assigned to my mobile and get the webbased UI.
I was still running pretty "dated" Belgium firmware with custom rooted kernel(build date somewhere from April?) on the phone and checked samfirmware and downloaded some 'hong kong' based firmware with build date around August.
It did stop the 'reboots' of the app but Kies Air Message was (still) not working.
Today, I just wanted to fiddle with it a bit more and I wanted to reinstall Kies-software for my Windows 7. So I removed Kies from Add/Remove software. But because Kies was still running, I needed a reboot before he could remove it all.
No problem because I had to install Kaspersky Internet Security as well, so I did not reboot but installed Kasperky Internet Security. Kies Air was still running on my mobile phone from previous attempts. As 'soon' as my Windows 7 'complained' about his built-in firewall being turned off, Kies Air Message suddenly detected 1 device. My Kasperky was still installing so I basicly did not have any software firewall active on my system. It did work, I only typed in a few letters to see if he 'could' see my phone book in Kies Air Message and it responded nicely with what I expected from it.
TLDR: check your firewall settings, perhaps try turning off all software firewalls and run Kies Air on your phone.
Apologies if this has already been covered or if you think I'm trying to teach you how to suck eggs but....
Are you guys using the App rather than the Kies Air setting? It's the app that connects to the Kies Air message rather than Kies itself. It seems a bit arse from elbow but I've not had any issues connecting to Kies Air Message using this method. I have kies installed on 2 lappys and a PC and they all connect to my phone instantly when I run the Kies app, as long as I'm connected via wireless or wireless hotspot of course.
Anyway, apologies if this isn't the case. My phone is an i9305 if that makes any odds.
I'm using Win7 64x and KIS, Kies Air Message does not detect my new GS2; I tried pausing KIS without success. Any suggestion?
Has anyone else had any problems connecting their Verizon flavored S4 to Windows 8.1 or any other Windows version? I don't know what happened to the phone, but some time back it lost the ability to connect to either my desktop running Windows 8.1 Pro or my laptop running Windows 8/Ultimate Edition 4.2. My Tab 3 8.0 connects just fine, but that's not the one I'm interested in upgrading the OS on. If anyone has insights, please share. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the response, but I should've stated that I used to be able to connect the phone to Windows 8 in the past. For whatever reason, when I plug in the phone, I don't even get the prompt in the status bar asking me how I want to connect (Media or Camera, or whatever the two options are). For some reason, that option has disappeared. All the required settings are checked in System Settings under Developer Options, and they match what I have set on my Tab 3 8.0 which connects fine.

My phone is pretty stock except for the usual root features. I uninstalled some Verizon bloatware and used an app to block that annoying firmware update notice that was driving me nuts. I didn't even know my phone was having PC connection issues until the first time I got the update notice and tried to connect it to my computer to backup a few things. My Tab is set up pretty much the same, which is what has me a little baffled. Aside from missing a few non-essential Verizon apps, I could uninstall SafeStrap and un-root both devices and one would never know they'd ever been rooted. If I ever do take the plunge into the world of KitKat and want to keep root, I know I'll have to be able to connect to my computer and the required Odin program for the ROM download, which is about the only thing keeping my from doing the update.

Ok, this is a little weird. I plugged my Tab into my desktop at which time Windows did it's thing and installed the necessary items. So for a kick, I plugged in my phone and suddenly they decided to talk to each other. Can't explain it, but I'm glad it's working now.
