Isn't evo really that fast? - HTC EVO 3D

Hi all,
I have won an iphone 4 16gb from a lottery and i think i'll get it in second half of january. As you imagine i'll sell it and buy a high end android device. I absolutely want to buy evo 3d because of its ram but here someone offers me sensation. In Turkey, evo 3d is about $100-150 cheaper than sensation. I know evo has more ram than the other. So it should be faster because they have the same cpu and gpu... But why is this cheaper and why does somebody say it isn't really that fast? Please help me to persuade myself to get an evo
By the way, goodbye desire z

I don't know who told you the Evo 3D "isn't really that fast" but...
1.2ghz dual-core cpu stock (mine is OC'ed to 1.5ghz) Snapdragon S3
1gb RAM
And the Adreno 220 GPU
Although those are just specs that anyone can look up, they're on par with almost every other highend smartphone out there right now. I'm running an experimental ICS rom and it's smooth as ****. It's not even in the final stages yet, so that says something.

It's cheaper because it didn't sell as anticipated.

I've gotten 4500 quads and linpack scores topping 108+ so yeah not that fast.
Wtf.
No its fast as hell and will do some serious multitasking with a gig of ram. Most evo 3ds can handle an overclock up to 1.782ghz the fact alone that the factory1.2ghz clock speed is actually detuned from the factory specs of 1.5ghz so technically "overclocking" to 1.5 is pretty damn near not overclocking.
I would say go for the 3d if you want the better phone.
Sent from my ice cream covered SCH-I500 using Tapatalk

With Root and OC cpu I get around 95-105 mflops on cpu and if I really crank it up around 3300+ on quad standard scores. It is super fast

Sensation has a much better camera, and is thinner. But the extra ram does make the 3d feel much faster. Atleast when I played with them both I didn't think the sensation felt any faster than my epic 4g, but I noticed quite a difference when I used the 3d. Both stock of course when I played with them. If you need a really clear camera then its the sensation you need. Other than that the 3d is the way I went because I have sprint, and because it seamed so much quicker.

I can't remember when i used camera of my desire z last. So it is not problem if a device has only a vga camera. But i want to play games smoothly as it can be. Yesterday i visited a technology market a had a chance to try evo 3d. Unfortunately i couldn't find a wifi network so couldn't install any 3d game to play... Everything was ok with its stock rom but i want to have a red back side although they have yellow back side

Having both of these phones myself, I have to say that at this moment in time the sensation has better rom's which give better performance than the EVO3D, which is a shame because i always thought the evo would spank the sensation, and on paper it does, but the user experience so far with the evo has been disappointing on the evo when compared to the sensation, i don't do benchmarks because quite frankly it doesn't mean ****, the user experience is everything and from what i've seen the evo has a little bit of catching up to do.
I've still got 11 days to return my evo and get either a galaxy nexus or an XL, I'm a fan of HTC Sense so i am dragging my heels on switching devices, i just hope the dev's can pull out the roms which the guys doing the sensation have.
I'm running Insert Coin at the moment, probably the fastest sense rom on the sensation, alas it doesn't seem to cut the mustard on the EVO, my DHD is smoother than this with only one core.
I've unlocked both cores and i'm using the anthrax kernel v2.
If you want to know what i mean, then just swipe the carousel around and right at the end you will see jitters and stuttering, the sensation doesn't do this, if the evo was as smooth as the sensation is then it would be a no brainer, but at the moment it's just not the case.
Oh and for anyone about to say putting a senseless rom on their evo is smooth, well yea it is, but i didn't buy the evo to live without sense, i could have got a galaxy nexus for that.

In short, the EVO is a better phone, however if you plan to flash a rom, which i think you will, then at the moment the sensation is ahead, but that will probably change.

I think I will buy an evo 3d...

Hardware wise, Evo3D trumps Sensation. It's just how it was marketed.
During that time, this section was flooded with assholes who were arguing newer phones like the sgs and other non-related phones with superior specifications and ROM support that it kind of killed it's tractions here (not excluding the babies who kept killing dev support here because of there constant demands for things they had no right to push since they weren't helping with the code).
On the outside, it was the best at release, but the competitors were selling their latest phones that weren't even available, and the end results was that people waited for them.
So now you see them trying to get rid of there stock in preparation for the next big thing. I still love my phone. I came from the Hero and knew what specs I was looking for. If we could get ICS running on that little machine, my horizon for this phone was, and still is, grand. It's capabilities will last me well into the next phase of phones until I'm forced to get a new one that will accommodate the new change in cellular frequencies.

the Evo 3d would be great coming from the DHD, IMO,
I just got my 3d a coupole months ago, upgraded from the original EVO 4G, I could have gotten any phone, or even waited for some of the new ones im sure sprint will release in the next 3ish months, and I am completely satisified, I find my phone to be rediculously fast, It takes whatever i throw at it with ease, especially when I have anthrax kernels.
And I feel like once the 3D officially gets ICS, things are just going to get faster and smoother..

[Q] Should I Get the Evo 3D or Stay with My EVO 4G

I am eligible to upgrade my phone and I will just like to know if I should upgrade to the Evo 3d or stay with my Evo 4G.I know is a dumb question but I just want to know what you guys think.thanks
What will you use it for? If just phone calls and or flashing roms...then no...evo been around for awhile and works good. If you need to flash you have tons of customs roms. The evo still holds itself well among phones. But, it you want a kick ass phone that is now not really mod able but will be soon...or desire faster, better and IMO opinion...a really good phone..then yes. I bought the phone for cash...I did not have a upgrade coming until november...when I bought..I knew there was no flash able roms yet..and was not really usable with titanium or root explorer...now that is not the case but I really miss flashing. I have no regrets..the 3d feature is a nice feature..and battery life on this phone is much better than my OG evo. Currently loving the better screen also.
Better screen, faster processor, more RAM, better everything. Once the bootloader is unlocked this phone will explode with ROMs. If you are eligible and have the money, there should be no question.

3D
I'm Going To Agree With Everything Said Already, But Add One More Thing. Look At The 3D Aspect As An ADD-ON. I Think The Reason The Review's For This Phone Are Lower Than Expected Is Because The Reviewers Thought That 3D Was All The Phone Had To Offer.
This Phone Is A Lot More Than Just 3D, And When We Get S-Off, This Phone Will Be The Best.
There is a lot that I don't like about this phone but i still have a problem getting rid of it. If it were me I'd hold off till more bugs vet worked out and the hardware becomes better. I'm on my 3rd 3d and each one has had different problems. The current one has screen lock up.

Ive had 3 3Ds as well (one I exchanged for another) I did have a problem with one but the other 2 work perfectly. I think the 3D is a truly awesome phone in every way including the 3D part of it. The only thing I dont like is that the screen isnt as wide as the 4G. I know its cause the aspect ratio is 16:9 and the resolution is higher but I miss it. I still would trade it for a 3D in a second.
It depends on what your looking for and how long you want to wait. Personally I love the 3vo. But Sprint is getting some other high end phones (photon, within aka gsII, possibly a nexus in November...) and your og EVO will easily last till those phones come out. I couldn't wait any longer cuz I love the latest and greatest so I got the 3vo
stay with the evo 4g wait for a better phone to come out I hate my 3d data speeds suck I when back to my evo 4g and data is great again

Just because you don't personally like Motorola or Samsung doesn't mean they aren't good products... I like HTC best but other manufacturers do have advantages in certain aspects. And he never specifics about just evos. Although I did re read his post and it doesnt ask about upgrading later. All I'm saying is theres no need to flame I was just trying to be helpful like everyone else here.
Coming from an EVO myself I like this one a lot, I miss the kickstannd but I do like it that is a bit longer and less wide easier to hold on the hand, we don't have roms but they are some themes a lot good ones too so you don't need to depend on HTC for them zone23 came from the EVO as well, teamwin, I haven't seen any other developers tho, battery life is better RAM helps a lot duel core is nice but i don't think is use completely with OS and we're pretty sure we getting ice cream update, HTC sense if you like it on the EVO you will love it here , sure myn, ava and xxxvirusxxx and other developers has done a great job with synergy but having out the box works amazing , I sold my EVO with extras for 160$ ( broken digitizer ) and I pay like 56$ with tac more and I'm happy not missing root to much cause there is a lot cuztomization on the stock sense hope the helps
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
Honestly
I think the 3vo is a better overall phone. Honestly I was able to sell the EVO stock for $250 so I actually made money off the upgrade. But the 3vo is in my opinion faster and a better phone. If you can deal with not being able to root it yet, which for some is a dealbreaker then its a no brainer in my opinion
3VO has a higher resolution and much faster processor. Right now you can Oc'd to 1.8 if you want too. It's amazing. And you still have the customization of adw ex. I came from EVO og and was flashing roms all the time. This just works so fast and well out of the box. The speed and resolution are what's really keeping me with the 3VO. I don't think I can do a lower res like gs2 ever again.

The reason I keep hearing is the updates. I dunno personally, I got mine on launch day and never did a update. The other thing I suspect is most best buy/radioshack think it dosn't have hdmi out. Mostly I think it is poor salesmen who think the only feature of the phone is the 3d.
It is what it is.... People have their own reasons for not liking the evo 3d just like anything else. You got your evo 3d so just have fun with it.
It's the tech-train playa. People come and go so they can stay on the cutting edge of hardware progression. It was the same when I was with the Hero.
Just wave them goodbye on their journey and enjoy the awesome phone you have in your hand. I know I am!

I think its because htc did a terrible job of marketing the evo. For example, the evo3d is to the og evo as the iphone 4s is to the iphone 4. Maybe even a little more if a step up with screen resolution. Htc shouldve used the 3d selling point like apple uses SIRI. People thought the only reason to get the new evo was for the 3d feature. I do love 3d but the first time u see a 3d pic it is taboo and people never gave it that second look. I think they should have went the evo 2 route and when people went to buy it they would be like "it can do 3d also? Wow!" Apple had lines out of their store because they sold a upgraded phone with a bonus cool feature IMO.

If that's the case, you wouldn't know it. The problem is, even with the dual core processor, the extra ram, etc, I still see tons of lag throughout the OS, in all apps. HTC should have spent more time tweaking Sense for speed and smoothness. The only place where the 3D really shines over the 4G is when using pinch to zoom in the browser, or in photos. I notice a huge difference there.
As far as working on the user experience, I think Samsung has done a fantastic job with their Touchwiz. Like it, or hate it, the menus are butter smooth, and it's almost impossible to find a spot where their devices lag.
Same with Motorola. I have noticed a little lag when using the photon, but the phone feels better in hand, and their "blur" interface isn't as resource intensive as Sense is.
I really like the 3D, but compared to the Evo 4G, or even other dual core beasts from motorola/samsung/etc, it just isn't the upgrade the 4G users were looking for. I'm hoping the ICS update (I plan on rooting, and installing a vanilla rom) will clear up any lag with the device, and make it run like it should have from the beginning.
Now, I'm going to go nag HTC to streamline sense, to make it run more smoothly.

I agree with u on the whole sense pulling to much from that phone making it lag.it suppose to b a beast but yet it doesn't feel near as quick or sharp as let say et4g or photon.I believe that's another reason it gets passed up.n the 3d camera is kool but when it comes down to it u can't share 3d pics with non 3d phones n so it just basically a 5mp camera with a dual core that feels sluggish cause of sense.
So people just overlook its features cause I believe it doesn't feel like the great phone that it is.I hope when they make the new evo they will make it king of the hill with a better optimized sense.
Sent from my fingertips to your eyeballs ...
I dont see where people feel lag on the evo3d. After about a month of using a evo3d, downgrading back to a evo4g or nexus is almost unbearable. As for the photon, that UI feels laggy straight out of the box. As for sense, the real world doesnt like plain android. This is why everyphone has something covering it up. The evo3d is a powerhouse, so is the epic touch. I guess u can say the newer sg2s are to since they are about the same as the 3d.

Photon's radio (phone, not FM) is much better than E3D's. Where I get 1 bar on 3D, Photon got 4.....that's a MAJOR reason to switch!!!
I never liked the feel of the EVO4g or the low screen resolution. Phone never felt good to me. I love the 3d because of the tall screen and the qhd and fast processor. I kept my hero when I got my 1 year upgrade on sero because I did not like the EVO4g. And I was the first person to get a consumer hero shipped from Sprint

I honestly think it all depends on the phone you had previously. I had a samsung entro, which was just a regular qwerty texting phone. Upgrading to the evo 3d blew my mind. The entro took about 30 mins to boot up, my evo take 20 seconds.

I just rolled w/ the Photon for a week and I hated every second of it.
The phone runs stupidly; even w/ the removal of Blur and such; you CANNOT remove all the Moto crap without crippling your phone (see: contact fcs after you try and remove yahoo bullcrap); and the feeling of the phone in hand is pretty lackluster. Along w/ that there are just so many little software issues; glitches in the UI, glitches in the Radios (my phone liked to go into International Roaming at random), too much work to do the simplest tasks (see: using the stock gallery/music apps), etc.
Overall, sense aside, I am MUCH happier with the Evo 3D; too bad about all the hardware issues I've come across (see: 4 Evo 3D exchanges since launch). Hoping this little guy will last me until the next big thing pops out of the water. I was really thinking of hopping over to the ET or the iP4S but there's too many incongruencies w/ my habits of phone use and those devices.
Really, I'm putting my all of my faith in the Devs to step up to the plate and get some fully-working AOSP goodness on this beast.
Also, once ICS (stock) comes out we SHOULD get an upgraded Sense (even 3.5 would be a major upgrade to this bloated-ass 3.0) so I'm hoping that happens sooner rather than later.
tl;dr - People hate this phone because Sense sucks at life and because of the hardware build/quality of parts (camera, radio, screen, BUTTONS!).
:3 -two cents
People that hate evo 3D hate out of ignorance.
Let them hate.... 3d has some legit specs. flash miui and watch it fly....

honest opinion about CDMA 3D

I know I am actually IN the 3D forums lol so it might be biased but I just would like an honest opinion on it. Plus I know a lot of people here were from the 4G forums so they have a better comparison.
I have an opportunity to basically get a free 3D and I can either give my g/f my Evo 4G or give her the 3D. The 4G community on XDA is fantastic and booming right now with ICS and all things Sense 3.0 and 3.5. The phone itself is a beast for being so old too.
How is the community here as far as being on the pulse of new stuff and ICS ect...? I like having options for flashing that are stable and updated. I also didn't really see a solid WIP project for ICS unless I just missed it. I assumed something of that nature would be on the 1st page with the new discovery of hardware acceleration.
Regards
The EVO 3D is better than the EVO 4G in virtually every single way, except for the development. It is quite slow and nothing compared to the 4G. The 4G is also older and has matured more as a phone, so I would expect its development community to be better.

i second what freeza says. to tell you the truth, im a little dissapointed with the development of the evo 3d, at least as far as AOSP roms go. i feel like we have plenty of sense roms though, so if thats your thing, then great. I was a former cm7 user though and we still don't even have a beta of CM7 and havnt had an update since like october for cm7.
The phone itself is great, I am not completely upset about development because the e3d handles sense with ease. It is much more smooth and fast then my evo 4g ever was even with cm7 and over clocking.
to be clear. i do suggest you take the 3d, it is definitely a better phone. heres why
-better camera - yes less mp, but the flash works 100x better and it just wor3ks better. plus the camera hardware button is awesome. o ya, too. lol
-faster, smoother
-higher resolution screen.
-i think it feel better in you hand. personal preference i guess though.
The only real complaint I have about the 3D is the camera button. I actually prefer having a physical button, but it looks and feels tacked-on like an afterthought -- it should've been more like the volume buttons in shape and height. Otherwise, it's got a great feel to it, not as heavy-feeling as the 4G, but not cheap-feeling like some Samsung phones. The 3D camera is a gimmick that you'll soon get over, so thank goodness it's a great phone in every other respect.
I use CleanROM on mine after using Deck's AOSP on my 4G, and I don't notice any slowdown. I prefer HTC's calendar, dialer, contacts, and clock apps, so I was glad to be able to go back to Sense again (I use LP as my launcher though).
If the EVO 4G had a dual core processor I would say stick with it. While both screens are 4.3" the EVO 4G screen appears larger because of the 16:9 ratio used on the EVO 3D.
The EVO 3D screen also appears dropped down in the phone and not as flush with the bezel. You do get a better resolution on the 3D but HTC needs to step up the quality and colors of their screens to stay competitive.
I found the camera button to be a waste on the 3D as you had to push down so hard for it to take a pic that you would end up moving the whole camera. The pictures are def. better on the 3D but the camera still has a long ways to go to catch up to the competition.
Bottom line, knowing that quad core devices are around the corner, you will def. want to go with the dual core phone so you do not get left to far behind in the dirt...
Well, I now on the 3D. Only problem is it's hboot 1.5 so it seems I have a bit of reading to do to get some custom goodness going.
Thank You
@hockey4life the AOSP has really been stepped up over there btw. Most of it is obviously Cyanogen based but the custom Roms are solid and nice. MIUI is pretty popular and solid as well. ICS just today is in Preview 3 with hardware acceleration and for what it is is pretty stable as well.
When the 3D hardware becomes obsolete the value of the device will plummet, and the development will completely cease, I would predict. Where as the 4g will hold its resale value, and development might actually continue after the 3D dies. Also, the 3D will never have the size and speed of development that the 4g does and will.
The hardware is clearly superior though, and will still remain relevant after new devices come.
Your all leaving out the fact that the speaker on the 3D is terrible! Evo 4G's wasn't spectacular to begin with, but it puts the 3D's to shame!

What the hell man? The freaking title even says HONEST opinion. The only way to answer his question with the least amount of bias is to include the pros AND cons of the device. You would never see a review online that doesn't include the high and low points, so why should this thread be any different? So you believe your device is great, but the thread asked for opinions, and that is what he got.
Hey, some people get a phone and hate it but are stuck with it. Lord knows i have gotten the "next best thing" and had to sit on it awhile so definitely good to get both sides.
I'm just shy of 24 hours into it and am enjoying it. I saw a lot of good points about the EVO 4G development and the 3D development. One thing I will say about the 3D that i am liking is that it is native Sense 3.0 and it runs SOOO smooth. 4G dev right now is hot but it's all beta and hacked 3.0/3.5 and ICS, no 4G no fully functioning camera, sms past 160 ect... The devs are absolutely amazing for what they do but compared to what I am seeing 3.0 should be running like it's like putting on that shirt you like that just quite doesn't fit anymore.
Don't flame me for this but it still is my opinion that this is a gimmick phone, 3D just wasn't very well thought out. I was literally over it about the 2nd picture lol. It's unfortunate that the 3D aspect is what prevents the devs from really digging in and blowing this thing up because dual core, EVO, and HTC all just equal greatness.
Ah well, thank you guys for the ups and downs, please if there is anything else I should know post up. I have been doing some non stop reading so far. Currently I am already HTC Unlocked and running Vipers Rom. I'm still learning about my limitations with hboot 1.5 but it seems to be just a few extra steps. I'll probably run this rom for a bit, any decent kernels out there? I'm not ready for the OC or undervolting yet but would like a decent kernel. My 4G was undervolted(is that a word lol) but this is a different beast.
All in all it was a free phone so I can't beat that with a stick.

its not really the 3d thats holding it back at all really. the only problem with the 3d is that feature will just be omitted on any roms that aren't built off the stock rom (like cm7 or sense 3.5, but i think they just figured out 3d on 3.5.). the chipset, or the low popularity of the chipset is holding it back. I dont believe there our any stable cm7 releases on our chipset family.
also want to add, none of the modded roms even feel as fast as the stock rom; therefore, since the phone is free, i dont see any reason not to upgrade. I kinda forgot about the whole hboot issue, i know they have some workarounds but i have the old one so i have never dealt with it.

Speaker is quiet. Overall I like the phone. I came from an epic 4g, and this community has 10x the development. I like the rom's and options everyone is putting out. I like the qhd screen and the dual core. The 3d is cool to show off to people. I think 3d takes better pictures than 2d as far as lighting goes. It runs very smooth stock, and that was the biggest reason I got it. Flipped the screen, it started the carousel thing, extremely smooth, and I bought it.
I forgot to mention. I got a free evo 4g a few weeks before the 3d, and I think the 3d is 5x better. It was a solid decision in my book getting the 3d.

Yea they weren't designed for the 4g. Hell native sense is still 1.0. The 2.1 rooms are dam smooth but when you have that 3.0 goodness why settle.
I like my choice so far. About the 3d holding it back, I'm clearly going on stuff I have read. I have seen both sides of the fence on that.

The EVO 3D is better than the EVO 4G in virtually every single way, except for the development. It is quite slow and nothing compared to the 4G. The 4G is also older and has matured more as a phone, so I would expect its development community to be better.

I can accurately tell you with confidence why the evo 3D development and popularity isn't there. You are right, the 3D is just a gimmick. Until glasses free 3D technology hits HD resolution, vibrant color depth, doesn't hurt people's eyes, and more devices can display 3D it will just be a feature that is nearly irrelevant, not a selling point. So, if you take away the 3D you are left with a phone that has hardware that is not at all revolutionary. Don't get me wrong, it performs well, but none of the technical specs were "never before seen".
Now, the 4g was revolutionary when it came out. First Android device device with 4g, in the world. Hdmi, 8mp camera, 1ghz snap dragon processor. All those features made the thing real popular. The number of people that own the device is therefore much higher. The hardware isn't the best out anymore but still very well preforming for current software trends.

Why HTC Amaze?

I'm coming from a Nexus one and currently using an international sensation (w/ edge speeds only ) and am looking for new phone b/c I can't take the slow speeds anymore. I'm mainly trying to decide between the HTC Amaze and HTC sensation 4g, but open to other phones as well.
I haven't personally used the Amaze before, so I figure it would be a good idea to ask you all for your personal opinions of why you chose the Amaze. I generally prefer the HTC build quality over that of Galaxy S2's. However, the sensation seems sleeker than the Amaze and is a more popular phone, which means more development activity (also, I read something about how Tmobile is taking it off their shelves but keeping the sensation..??). On the other hand, the Amaze has 42mbps data capabilities while sensation is only 14.4 or something =/.
Well I cannot say for certain whether max data speed has much affect on average speeds or not but max I've gotten on my amaze is about 13mb/s but anything above 5 is pretty good imo. Now as far as preferences... I like the feel and sleek design of the sensation much better, it felt better without a case or anything but I was always paranoid without it having a case and I had dust under the screen a lot... I've had possession of about 4 sensations and no matter what rom I ran. The amaze was smoother and faster out of the box. That's saying a lot imo and the camera is great in my opinion. This phone also seems more consistent and less prone to issues. That's just my 2 cents

If you care for custom roms, the Amaze is not for you. Frankly, the ones available suck, if you're looking to ditch Sense. They still have large elements of sense remaining.
But if you don't care... the Amaze is a nice phone. Good build quality with an amazing camera.
go with the amaze if you want the upgraded camera, HSPA+, and the increase in RAM + CPU.
go with the sensation if you want more dev support, and the increase in battery standby time.
i've never seen 42mbps personally, but i often reach 20 mbps on 4g.
imho you can't go wrong either way.
First of all, if you care about speed which location are you on.. it all depends where you are or how the draft of 4g is on your place.. yeah they say it @42 mbps but in reality you can't reach that speed.. again it depends on your location for the speed..
The Amaze has a 25% faster processor, 33% more RAM, 4 times the internal storage (16GB vs 4GB), an NFC chip, dedicated camera and camcorder buttons, a wider aperture F2.2 camera lens, a better front camera (2 MPix vs VGA), supports HSPA+ 42, 802.11a WiFi (in addition to b/g/n), and AT&T's UMTS freqs in addition to T-Mobile's.
best ive ever gotten on my amaze is ~9 mb, but then again, it all depends on network load, signal strength etc. if youre rom flasher, the only thing youll miss is lack of roms. hopefully that will change soon, im already sick of bloated ass sense...
Former Nexus one user
Having owned the nexus one and now the amaze I can see where you're coming from. If you like the size of the sensation, then the amaze should feel perfect for you. I think its a little too big, but it seems like it's impossible to get a phone with decent specs that isn't gigantic. But here's just a quick overview:
The camera software on the Amaze, is just simply spectacular.
Amaze has some pretty sweet download speeds I think I've hit like 13-17 a few times.
Better specs that the Sensation.
I think both the sensation and amaze were posted as being end of life phones over on the tmonews site. If you can wait a little longer maybe you can hold out til the HTC Ville comes out.
i just got my htc amaze and let me you man, i do not regret getting it at all! its amazing! its so fast! and hopefully X will get ICS to work for our phones!
Both are great phones, the only thing IMO the Sensation has over the Amaze is OVERWHELMING Dev support

This is the only advantage Sensation has over the Amaze. The Amaze wins in every other regard. Faster, better hardware specs, awesome camera and nicer screen. That said, Bulletproof ROM is quite nice and I can't wait for ICS to hit.
I also come from Nexus One and I absolutely believe Amaze is HTC's best phone to date. Nexus One was fantastic and Amaze is a worthy sucessor. Of course, it you want to wait, I'm sure HTC One X with its quad core will be great as well.

Maybe a good poll idea? The Nexus One will always have a soft spot in my heart too. It's the OG in my book. The MT4G in my opinion may still be the best phone. I get same speeds running CoreDroid (which is a sense ROM btw) on MT4G as I do with my Amaze and it's a single core CPU. I do love my Amaze though. More pleasing to the eyes, and a bigger screen. Not to mention the AMAZING camera

I do believe thats because gingerbread doesnt fully support dual core
Sensation is only good for its dev support. But its also bad because you won't make up your mind on which ROM to use because there are so many of them!
Go with the AMAZE...once ICS and CM9 comes, dev support should pick up really fast.

im bringing our own ics over they will come people or i will just have to make 10 user accounts to be 10 dif devs lol
okay, so i also have been looking to upgrade to an amaze. my last android phone was the mt4g, i traded that for a hd7 to try windows phone as i had gotten a little tired of the current batch of roms that were around and my screen was dying. i am not a fan of sense, i really would never use it, which is driving me away from this phone. is there any chance of an aosp rom in the future, cm7/9, anything non sense. i have read your reasons for why its better than the sensation 4g, and while i would love to have a god camera and a slight amount more of ram, the increased data doesnt effect me in arizona where we dont get real 4g. the sensation is sounding like the better choice atm cuz i like the idea of having a aosp rom and a possible chance of seeing cm9 on my phone. so again if anyone could tell me if there is a chance that aosp will someday (hopefully soon) be on the amaze it would be helpful in helping me decide between the two phones. thank you.

[Q] Your opinions on Evo 3D.

I'm getting a new phone soon. And this one is actually cheap and has dual core + 3D <3!
But I want your opinion if I should buy it. Why should I buy it, why I shouldn't buy it. Good custom roms. Ics, rooting and all that stuff..
Thanks for your time!

best android device i have owned, personally. if you can get your hands on one, do it and don't think twice.
it has great hardware, and with the release of ICS, that hardware is being utilized and optimized to it's maximum potential.
Great specs
OK screen
3D is a gimmick
If you like tinkering with your phones the 3d is definitely one to consider, if you can get it for a cheap price. ICS leaks have dropped, so the roms are mostly fully functional. S-OFF methods have been found for various HBOOTS so doing the above should be quite easy. All in all, get it.
What's not to like about 3D selfies
Nah seriously though, hardware is still powerful enough for everything you throw at it. The 3D is fun for a day, then I pretty much haven't touched it since, although watching 3D movies is still on my to do list. With the official leaks of ICS out the development has been going crazy and there are some truly excellent roms on offer, mdeejays and mwakious being my favourites so far.
If you can get it for a decent price then why haven't you bought it already is kinda what I'm saying

The phone is great and the custom Rom developers are top notch. I enjoy the 3d capabilities for the occasional picture.
The only reason I might pause at purchasing is it uses WiMAX which is not being rolled out anymore.

If you talk about HTC, great build quality & UI are certainties. Evo 3D, what can I say? the most cheapest device having 1GB RAM and moreover it has 3D cam & screen. its dualcore & GPU aren't as impressive as exynos' or tegra's, but how often will you need that powerful resource?

First i wanted a Sensation XE, but in chosen the Evo 3D, same hardware and 3D as a bonus, no regrets so... il love my phone !
I'm in the same boat looking to get the rebranded version for Virgin.
One question I have is how is streaming video on Netflix, hulu, mlbtv, and even video that requires flash player? I like streaming sports from first row sports and I'm really hoping this phone can handle that.

Got the 3D myself because of the CPU and other hardware specs. As others have said the 3D itself is a gimick, I dont think I've used it more than twice since I got the phone over a year ago. My only complaint about the phone is the touch screen is a little over sensitive. You can activate things just by barely brushing the screen by the slightest ammount. It takes some getting used to but other than that the phone is awsome. Also, just an fyi since it took me a long time to confirm this the evo3d does indeed have Gen-1 gorilla glass.

No one mentioned the hassle of HBOOT 1.5. Read up on it carefully. Once you get past it, there is plenty of love for this phone to make it last a good while.

You make a very good point. It litteraly took me 8 hours to root this phone (Including time to temp root, backup, crack hboot, install recovery, rom and restore) and thats after doing weeks of research and knowing exactly what I was doing every step of the way. My wifes Samsung Galaxy S2 took all of mabye 15 minutes. But as the above said, once your past that its gravy and I still like this phone better than my wifes S2.
