[Q] Changing Urukdroid 1.6 rc5 boot animation - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear All,
I've been watching this forum since I bought my archos 101 but now I rooted with urukdroid 1.6 rc5.
I already changed the boot animation zip file and everything is working but i'd like to change also the urukdroid boot animation (the one with all the initializing writings)... is this possible? it is also possible to take off or hide the phrase "... switching to root fs"
thanks
Alessandro

To change this part of bootscreen, you'll have to touch the initramfs.cpio.gz of UrukDroid.
The Uruk specific bootscreen is a special bitmap file and could be easily replaced.
There'd been some dicussion about these kind of images already.
To get rid of the status messages you'll have to tweak some of the scripts inside initramfs.
To extract/pack the initramfs follow these instructions:
http://dev.openaos.org/wiki/InitramfsRepacking

Sorry for the late response but I just came back from new year party!
Where I can find the bitmap image so I can switch with my custom image?

As i wrote...
It is inside initramfs.cpio.gz (/root/UrukDroid_A101IT.rgz) and has special format.
You may also tweak the scripts to point at your splash image and choose a different name.
Use the search button for more information on the file format.
There'd been some posts already and i'm lazy today

[BOOT ANIMATION] Custom Boot Animations For Advent Vega [Updated 21/02/11]

Hi All.
I have had some free time so i thought i would try something i have never done. While browsing a while ago i saw some bios boot animations, so i thought i would kick off with one i made for are vegas. If i get the time i will make some more. They are easy to make, just a bit time consuming making all the .pngs for the animation (there are around 75) Feel free to edit my animations, all i ask is that you post them in this thread if you want to share them. If you plan to add it to a rom please only edit the rom info and leave my details in. "Boot By Original_Ganjaman" and credit my work.
Edit: Added New vega Boot Animation
Installation:
1 - Download the Boot Animation, rename it to bootanimation.zip and copy it to your SD card.
2 - Copy the bootanimation.zip to Data/local on your device (i use root explorer)
3 - Restart your Device and enjoy the new boot animation
To revert to normal boot screen just delete bootanimation.zip from Data/local.
If you like this thread please click the "Thanks Button"

Nice!
I knew it from HTC phones Android ROMs, didn't know its possible for tablets as well.
Will try it tomorrow.
I've just installed it already. A bit of nostalgia with the Vega prompt, I love Sega Genesis/Mega Drive since I was a child Thanks a lot!
Does this replace the Advent logo or is it for the booting part of the process before that, or indeed both?

For the advent logo only. I dont think it is possible to change the booting part.

The new 1.09 update has a small android picture instead of the booting text, that usually appears, and the bootloader size seems to have changed too, so I think that it is possible, but we don't know how...

Probably part of the bootloader, so not going to touch that.
hahah works like a charm
and replaces the advent boot ( advent logo)
but not the BOOTING.... part at start up
anyway it works ! i like it !
Siick! bookmarked! will have a play with this later
Thank you! Great work.
Hope it is ok if I use it with a small change for my first Xvsion / Vega ROM.

No problem using this in your rom. Just as i said in my first post, if you have edited any .pngs please only post in this thread. Using a unmodified one is fine. (changing FPS etc is fine) I just dont want modified versions of my work being posted else where. What is the small change you have made?
Edited First post to clear up some sharing issues.

As discussed, I changed my modification, it shows now the original author of the animation.
On the published ROM I use the first 2 of the attached examples.
On my own tablet I show instead the owner information, as shown in the last 2 attached examples.
Thats fine. I have updated my first post to cater for people who want to add it to a rom.
Take it easy
Thx, cool boot screen ^^

How have you been creating the .pngs? I have been using photoshop cs4 and the image size is nothing like that. Even at 1024x600.

i use photoshop cs3 and cs5 for the editing i think its the problem the gradient in my image i will try it out without gradient / effects
( png are a pain in the ass when it comes to filesize )
im a front end developer en i work every day with images and websites
but this image is just way too big
im gonna try another solution and when its fine i will post the psd here voor everybody to make there own custom..
i found the solution it was de radial gradient... without it my images are 36kb. i wil post it when im done
Hi All,
Pop over to Modaco where "Wobblydoggy" has posted the honeycomb boot animation. Read the whole thread and then choose the second version.
Worked well for me, as Wobbly said a little grainy, but I like it a lot

Fascinate Stock Bootanimation.zip

Hello,
What i am looking for is the Stock Bootanimation.zip file that comes with fascinate. What i wanna do is get the PNG files that make up the verizon boot logo. I want to take this and use it to make a boot animation for a diff device.
All i have is the bootanimation.qmg but i have searched and have not been able to find a way to get the images out fo htat compressed format.
Thanks for all your assistance in advance.
The stock boot animation isn't a zip file, it's a .qmg file...
stock kernels for fascinate don't support bootanimation.zip files. The .qmg is a proprietary format chosen by Samsung (shock!) and developed for them by the QURAM Corp. However, many custom roms DO support bootanimation.zip startup logos. (SuperClean 2.92 is a superb example)
The shutdown sequence however, is in .png format, although it also comes with a .cfg configuration file. Its located in /system/media/video/shutdown
Hope this helps.
Any way to get that boot animation? When I rooted my gf's fascinate, it replaced the verizon one with the default "android" in landscape mode.
Little off topic but similiar (not trying to hijack post), can you get the orignal backgound back after changing it to something else? It's not listed in the wallpaper choices.
I'm not sure specifically, but it seems that it depends on the kernel you have if you can install custom boot animations, since the Fascinate (and probably other Galaxy phones) don't really have the .zip support (i'm guess on what i've read).
I'm sure someone will correct me, lol

[Q] Archos 101 Internet Tablet Boot Screen Animation changing?

I was wanting to know if anyone out there knows of a working Boot Screen Animation Changer for the A70/101IT that can successfully change the boot screen without crashing over and over?? It would also be even greater if anyone knows of one that also allows you to download new boot screens within the same app too!?
Lastly, if it really is possible to change the boot screen animation on the A101IT to something different... what is a good site that has them AND what file format ending (like .gif or whatever) should I look for? Also, are all custom boot screens for other Android devices (like Android cell phones) compatible with the A101IT?

Yes it's possible to change the boot screen animation. See here
And yes most boot screen animations from other devices will work.

Awesome, thanks a ton! You rock! You're very helpful and informative! Much appreciated.
This is cool thanks. Will this work on the 70 as well . Also, Would you happen to know the dimensions for the images. I doubt that the bootanimations from a phone will have the right size images. If someone knows what size they need to be for the 101 and the 70 that would be some good info.

Any size smaller than the display size will work. I believe the images are automatically scaled down to fit the screen but not scaled up. Some tests need to be done to find a good size.
This may help http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/56647-boot-animation-gallery.html

OK so this works great on the 70. I used 800x480 for the images and they fit perfect.
You 101 users should try 1024x600. this is the resolution of the 101 screen. that is how i came up with the size for my 70 so it should work.
I read somewhere on here the size of pics needed for the A101IT needs to be 1200x1024 for the best quality but i have yet to test those exact dimensions. When I read about it from somewhere in here like 3 other people all confirmed the 1200x1024 dimensions as well.
(It may be the same for the A70IT too but probably not due to the 70 and 101 size difference)?
As a side note, getting bach to the bootscreen animation, how would I go about applying a new bootscreen because I downloaded a new one and thought it would apply itself but didnt, any ideas?

copy bootanimation.zip to /data/customization/
Ahhh, I see! Very much appreciated (wdl1908) for all your help! You know your $hit, thanks!
While searching around I found this site with a lot of boot screen animations http://cid-11d05b676a3170c4.office.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public/Android/bootanimations
Enjoy.
does anyone know if you can add sound to the animation? and if so how?
Here is the bootanimation i made for my 70.Just rename it to bootanimation.zip and paste in the /data/customization folder. (if that folder does not exist then just make it) I have more if you would like them let me know.
To Saprano614, WDL1908, or anyone else....
How do I apply a new custom boot screen animation??
I've tried numerous times putting new bootscreen animations in .zip folders in the /data/customization folder I had to create and I'm confused with how it's supposed to be applied?! Do I put it in the /data/customization folder and reboot... because I've done exactly that, time and time again but I still get nothing and it still loads the same boring factory bootscreen? Do I need to do something different or additional?? = ( Also, do I extract the bootscreen out of the zipped folder and put it in the /data/customization folder or just keep it zipped and copy there?

you leave the zip as it is, but you have to edit a line and put a line in
/init.rc
first (in init.rc) undocument
Code:
# export ANDROID_BOOTLOGO 1
to
Code:
export ANDROID_BOOTLOGO 1
then, after this existing lines
Code:
service media /system/bin/mediaserver
user media
group system audio camera graphics inet net_bt net_bt_admin net_raw
ioprio rt 4
insert ( or in the newer uruk versions, undocument) the lines
Code:
service bootanim /system/bin/bootanimation
user graphics
group system audio graphics
disabled
oneshot
this gives you the animation after message "switching to rootfs" till the homescreen appears
its also possible to remove the urukdroid logo, but therefore initramfs.cpio.gz has to be edited
(/etc/scripts/init_lib.sh in initramfs)
the second part of uruk animation is in
/system/bin/show_logo.sh
it also can be deactivated by editing the file (but do not delete it, because its used for other things too)
I use the app su file manager & terminal. Conect you tab to your pc paste the bootanimation.zip to the root of your sdcard. Then unplug the usb. Then with su file manager or another superuser permited file browser copy thr bootanimation.zip and then browse to the /data/customization folder. Make sure that it is in the correct /data folder. There is one on the sdcard and one on the device. if u use the file browser I do then hit back button till it asks if you want to exit but hit cancel. Then look for the Data file. That is the one you need. Then reboot. Again must be in the /data/customization folder not the /sdcard/data/customization folder.

nothing to do with the kernel, you must edit the /init.rc and enable the bootanimation, as written above

[GUIDE] Change your boot animation

REQUIRES ROOT ACCESS
If you want to change your boot animation, its easy.
1. Download Root Explorer off the market (which costs like 3 BUCKS)
2. Inside root explorer, press button up top "MOUNT R/W"
3. Download your bootanimation.zip
4. Extract the bootanimation.zip.
5. After you extracted, you will find another bootanimation.zip inside the one you just extracted.
6. Move the .zip into system/media. (Delete or Backup the original inside)
7. Long click the zip once you moved.
8. Go to permissions.
9. Tick all boxes.
10.Reboot and Enjoy!
Any Problems PM me and i will edit this thread. Thanks all
The same occurs when you do it with a computer program such as Droid Explorer.

Yes, it works..
With instruction #6 I recommend: copy the original first to a secure folder on your SD-card, so as to be sure that, when something goes wrong, you can get it back...

It's just a boot animation- nothing harmful so I doubt it wil effect your system.
The worst would be a very pixelated and slow boot animation if your desired boot animation is for LDPI (Lower Def) Devices.

I think i answered you're question already on private messages, but for other people with this question, just switch to an alternative like doomkernel, ThKernel etc.
You can always use this tool to change the bootanimation
quick question.
my bootanimation is the bios one i founf on this forum
did all i had to do and it works on my X10
BUT,
it doesnt load completely i get the (enter pin code) frame before its finished.
what i did was delete some pictures in the zip (the double frames (pics that look the same))
and renamed em all to follow in sequence seeing im pretty new to all this and wasnt sure if it was needed.
now its loading a bit further in the pictures cause i see more changes in the X time its loading.
now my point is can i edit/do something to make it finish and THEN enter the pin code or ? did i do something wrong.
uploaded it with total commander .. the permissions you talked about i didnt do that is that root explorer only or ?
thnx in advance

Sorry I'm not an expert in that field, sorry I don't know how to deal with that. Yeah the permissions are for root explorer but if another program supports permissions in that form, them it's for that other program as well.

[Q] About Changing CM9 Splash Screen

I was wondering if there was an easy way to change the splash screen on our Touchpads? I'm talking about the small green Cyanogenmod logo that appears before boot. I've changed the splash screen on my myTouch 4G a lot and was hoping to do the same for my Touchpad. I heard a while back that its coded into the kernel and was hoping this was not the case. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Sent from my myTouch 4G using xda app
+1, but it must be hardcoded. Couldnt find it as well
If you extract the nightly with 7-zip, it's in the root of the created folder as moboot.splash.CyanogenMod.tga. Is that the one you are talking about?
EDIT: Added image. I had to convert it to PNG to upload it here, but it is originally a TGA
No, but it`s identical.
I think OP is looking for something like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598427

That is exactly what I was looking for! What did you use to convert to png? And can I use it to convert to tga as well?
I used Paint.Net to convert to PNG, but I don't think it can convert back. The only thing I know for sure that can outup TGA is Illustrator.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
I appreciate it! I ended up finding this site that will convert back and forth between a bunch of different file types. I'm going to try to make my own splash next week after I study for the three exams I have on Monday and Tuesday. Thanks for all your help though! Good looking out!
http://www.online-utility.org/image_converter.jsp?outputType=PNG
If you have a mac, Pixelmator can convert any file format to TGA.
EDIT: I don't believe that file is the cyanogen mod loading thing. If you look at this thread I made: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598427 you can see that the moboot.splash.CyanogenMod.tga actually controls the static boot image that displays after the loading, and before the animated boot animation. In cyanogenmod both images are the same, back to back, but in other roms, they are different. In other words, changing that file only gets rid of one part of the Loading splash. I believe that the other is coded into the kernel or something like that, similar to the splashes that appear on phones that tell you the name of the phone.

Go to Plugins on the Paint.NET page and download the package. Then you can create tga files as well.
But if you change the moboot.splash.CyanogenMod you will still have a cyanogen picture with loading letters.

It has to be in the uimage. Notice that if you have both aokp and CM9 uimage files in /boot, depending on which one you click, it at first shows the appropriate logo. So, part 1 in in the umiage and the 2nd part is the .tga file. Then the boot animation.

Is it possible to change the cyanogen mod loading screen that occurs before booting into any rom/recovery?
No
