[APP] Call Master - Need some EVO testers please! - HTC EVO 3D

Hi guys. Below is an intro for those that are not familiar with the app. What I really need is a few testers to check some new features that were recently introduced to help deal with issues restarting the RIL (radio layer) on a few phones.
We have recently added a new method of debugging this and really need some users to test them for us. Especially on stock and ICS builds.
If you are willing to help, just download CM from the link above (its free) and if you cannot get data to return after the initial reboot of the telephony service, click "Restart radio" in Settings.
Then wait for the restart (about 1 minute). If it doesnt work, please post here and also send some logs through the "Write to us" item in the application's Settings.
You can also visit the main thread here, but please post about this particular issue in this thread so that i can track the problems better!
Thanks very much!

Did you put this in the Android App section too?
Edit: Never mind. You did.

This is for testing on this particular device. Please perform the tests described above!

Any issues with 1.2.0?

Any issues to report with 1.2?

Been testing it out for about 4 days now. For the past 2 weeks I have had a loan company calling 2-4 times a day. Haven't heard them call since I set this up. Have it set to answer and hold, and I haven't received a voicemail either. So far so good! Great work, thank you.
EDIT: Almost forgot, I have had no problems with my service/data since install. Works same as before.

Excellent. Please consider leaving a rating on the market - that can help us a lot and this app really doesnt deserve a 4 star rating. Its the best on android.

By the way guys, we have just released a new app that lets you securely switch between multiple installations of android on one device:

Check it out please!

Installed the app, works well.

This is a great app I used the beta throughly, however it wasn't of much use to me. I don't really need to block anyone so there was no point for me to continue. But for those who do this app is the best.
Suggestion: I know you have a trial version, but maybe a lite version would be a hit as well. Some people don't need all the crazy features and a cheaper app with standard features might go over well. I'm not being a cheap ass but IMO it would entice more people and we wouldn't have to deal with the ad in notification bar...just a thought.

[Beta] Call Master CDMA testing thread

Hi everyone! Thank you for your help in getting CM up to a flawless standard! We are now almost ready to deploy CM 1.5 - it will include MMS blocking, Class0 auto replies and many other new and very cool features.
We need your help now to iron out any remaining bugs before we embark on a daemon rebuild. Please download the app from the market and get testing! Here are the issues we want to address specifically:
- If you have problems regaining 3G after the telephony restart. This should have been fixed. If not, please try "Slow radio restart" in Debugging and report your results!
- Issues moving list priorities on Light or Dark theme. Again, if you have issues, please switch to the other theme, try again and then report back.
- Notification color schemes. We are interested if the new notifications comply with the majority of frameworks.
Thank you in advance for all your great work, this ultra-awesome app is as much a child of yours as it is of ours

It may help those people who have data issues, especially on LTE enabled phones sometimes.
Please help me test this by installing the app, rebooting and waiting for data to return with the screen on. Please wait 3 minutes at least before sending logs via "Write to developer" in the app.
Dont forget to include a description. Thanks!

I see... its a complicated app, not for average users.
I installed it again and with a good nights sleep was able to add a couple of numbers to the blocknumbers list. The sliding left and right menu screen was hard to find, and some of help buttons didn't help much.
Give it a try you might be younger and sharper than me. ;')

Considering that i built it... the more menu is hard to find, i agree. I will create an overlay to point people there. The help for those dialogs does say what they are thought!
Ok so I pick up my phone and I see it's blocking calls so do I have too white list the people I want to hear from???

I think you should just stick to RCB mate... there are no whitelists in this application. Look here: http://bit.ly/lDvCoi

Your app would be the best app of its kind if it had a built in private chat style sms. But since it doesnt I left to using RCB for the muted/ignore call function and Extreme Call Blocker invisible for everything else. That muted call function is what sets your app apart from the rest in my opinion....everything else you have is just regurgitation....which makes the app way more complex than it has to be.
And the daemon thing is an issue but worth it to have some radio troubles a couple times a day in exchange for the mute/ignore function you have. The only other MAJOR issue with your app is your attitude.....you support your apps but your responses are extemely disrespectful when they dont need to be. But halfdriven was also being an asshole for no reason about your app!!
We already have private SMS mate! Its just virtual - add the "Make private" action to your list, long press on the list to sweep the system logs and that's it. You can chat through your SMS app and dialer of choice and the app will move all the logs into Call Master.
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda premium
I will try it again.the l fast time I tried it the sweep action took a while and was not consistently removing private texts....but that was several revisions back....I'll give it another go....thanks.
That's not possible. It ALWAYS works. It may simply take up to 15 seconds. You don't even have to have the messenger open.

Should I remove root call blocker before using this?

[APP] SwitchMe secure login manager needs Atrix testers please!

Hi everyone. Im one of the developers of SwitchMe, and app that allows multiple secure logins into separate installations of android on a single device. The pr is after the break.
I really need a few people to check into some issues people on some atrix roms have been experiencing. There are some warnings involved:
- testers must perform a full nandroid backup before using the app, it is not our responsibility if you start getting boot loops
- if you report results or bugs, please use the "Write to us" function in the app whenever possible, and always describe the issue in the header of the logs you send
- if you post here, be sure to include your device type and rom
- if you have apps installed on sd, be sure to mention that as well
--------------------------------------------------------------------
SwitchMe is a unique application for root users that allows you to log in and out of multiple installations of Android just as you would on a desktop computer.
The technology behind SwitchMe saves all of your applications and data, protects it and stores it as a file in memory. You can then log out of an
account and log into a fresh installation of Android or another account with its own unique content.
You may create as many profiles as the memory is capable of holding. Some of these may require very little free memory because they contain few apps,
others will be larger as they contain many applications and lots of cache and data.
Why is this functionality useful?
Privacy - the most obvious benefit is that you can securely share one device among multiple users, which gives you privacy and peace of mind.
Testing - if you are a developer, you can use profiles as clean sandboxes to test your applications and their interaction with the system.
Gaming – with multiple installations of Android on a single device, you can now play online MMOs as different characters.
Speed - the games your kids play slow down your tablet, but with SwitchMe you can easily create profiles without games or instant messengers.
Battery life - when the battery is low but there are important emails or documents to edit later, switch to a profile which only contains these essentials.
These of course are only suggestions - there are plenty of other uses for the functionality SwitchMe offers.
Market link:
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.switchme
The Lite version allows the creation of two profiles, enough to test on.
Screens:
SwitchMe 1.2 has been rolled out and now includes a lockscreen replacement:
1.2

More stable Fast switch implementation
Reworked UI colors
Now, its very important that we get some feedback on how this big new feature works, so please read up on it in the help and post your thoughts!
1.2.2 - HOTFIX 2
Reworked widget on qHD+ displays
Fixed widget text on HC and ICS
Fast switch improved on older devices
Installed and my volume in my speaker is so low I couldnt by tell if the phone connected . Also using a bluetooth headset it has static. Uninstalled back to normal volumes and headset works .love the software hope there is a fix for this.
Are you sure its an error? Because there may have been software responsible for your volume that was updated or not originally present in the original rom...
Even when using it on the first slot setup it had no volume and that was untouched before and after the install
Please do the following:
install app
clone profile
switch profile
send logs - be sure to mention your xda name in the description!
Thanks in advance.

I reinstalled the most rebooted before anything else. Created clone booted into it and all is good very nice setup already bought key and rolling 3 profiles

For me IRS great thx.
Thats great. Enjoy.
1.5.3.8
Fixed issue switching profiles (One X and others)
Fixed rare crash on adding/ removing profiles
Fixed many device specific issues from user logs
I can confirm it works brilliant.
I'm using free version which is at the moment sufficient. One profile is for me, office apps, various productivity apps.. anything I'd use. The other profile is for my 3 yo kid full of games appropriate to his age, and no connectivity, just to make sure no accidental purchases are made.

[Q][Paranoia] Can GO Launcher really be trusted?

GO Launcher seems to be the "go to" launcher of choice for many people, including well read, influential online publications, like lifehacker. I can't bring myself to trust GO Launcher EX though. Outside of the eye candy and polished interface, its aggressive pushing of its own storefronts, apps, libraries, and widgets, many of which request unusual permissions like log file access and root, leaves me feeling that it's very liberal with what it does with any information it collects or tries to collect.
To confirm my suspicions, I whitelisted the launcher in Droidwall and monitored the connections and packets it sent out using Android Network Log .
What I found wasn't all too surprising and honestly not that different from most of the fun "free" apps on the marketplace that phone home and monetize user data. It's just that GO Launcher is phoning home to servers in Bejing, as well as a Chinese operated personalized content delivery network (ChinaCache) with servers in the US (essentially the Chinese counterpart to our Akamai). Many of the packets were directed to 69.28.54.217, which is a ChinaCache Los Angeles CDN server. I'm sure those hundreds of packets was all very intredasting data that gets sent to Beijing, too. Which is why one of 3G.cn/GO Launcher's employees has a linkedin page, one where she obviously forgot to confer with her company's marketing/PR department prior to candidly listing some of her responsibilities which include, verbatim, "data mining". lol. I'm very sure it's to 'serve personalized ads, quality products, and actionable data to high value customers', but still, the writing is on the wall. With how active Chinese companies are in tailoring the online footprint/reputation of their products and software on various websites, I'm sure that linkedin page will be taken down or revised.
Western corporations that broker information vs state influenced Chinese corporations that broker information. While I view both as not the most trustworthy entities in regards to my privacy, I do feel that there are at least some restrictions that could be theoretically enforced to limit the scope of the data shared by corporations in the West.
While I can easily block outbound packets and revoke permissions from GO Launcher EX, I just don't feel like I want to bother using it anymore.
ADWLauncher EX, my main launcher on several of my Android devices, does not generating any outbound traffic and there are no indications that it is collecting or selling my data. A much friendlier option to privacy, in my opinion.
Should I be this paranoid? Should you? I was surprised that I didn't see too much information about GO Launcher's data collection on the web, so I thought I'd share. Thoughts?
Just stick with adw launcher. I use sock launcher to save battery but it is what you prefer to use so sick with it.

To be honest I don't trust Go products at all after they refused to say how their SMS app was able to remember someone used their app even after changing phones and phone numbers. We have to remember that there are things that are legal in China but not in the States which include monitoring of personal data.

That's definitely a very scary factoid. Can you link me to the thread or webpage where they did that? I have seen the developer be very active in shutting down any negative comments towards the software, with some explanations that no identifiable information is stored or accessed, which runs counter to what is actually happening.
One of the reasons I started more heavily scrutinizing app developers is that I've seen the American press increasingly lauding, praising, and recommending Chinese developed software products, without fully vetting just what these products do, or what kind of security concerns they possibly present. Of them, was a remote desktop access software called Splashtop, which inexplicably had numerous foreign field offices, several being in mainland China. Among those offices, one was literally next door to a "Party Member Service Office". Splashtop, for many years, used zero end to end encryption, without any valid reason. Remote desktop applications and launchers provide so much unfettered user whitelisted access to elevated privileges, file system, network communications, root access, and keystroke/input monitoring, that it seems unconscionable to voluntarily install such a huge backdoor.
With many millions of downloads to date, they have quite a lot of data immediately available, to entities whose endgame is unknown, in a country that lacks the kind of regulatory checks, balances, and accountability that, for the most part, have earned user's trust of Western corporations and developers.
A worst case scenario I can imagine is that with all of the unique device ID's stored in their database (GO Launcher also creates a copy of your device ID and places is it in the file system, in plain text, which remains after uninstall) and likely profiling of each user, a malevolent company could essentially push a custom software update on someone's phone that deploys a more aggressive/invasive payload. With today's level of technology and the state of rampant state sponsored corporate espionage, I see it definitely within the realm of possibility.

Didn't know that. Never used their products but shouldn't that be enough to merit a ban from XDA? Bugless Pete was booted for less (source code issues but nothing as malicious as a keylogger).

With the aggressive number of "updates" they immediately push once you install one of their products or add ons, I don't imagine it shouldn't be too difficult to find something of interest to confirm or deny suspicions. I did find it odd in that GO SMS thread that there were some mentions of whitelisting GO SMS to prevent AV from interfering with it.
I'll see about installing GO on one of my spare devices and routers after work, along with something like wireshark, so I can analyze packet data. This isn't something that I'm too familiar with so it may be a little bit while I re-acclimate myself to the program. If anyone is more familiar with packet analysis and wants to run tests alongside, it can build a stronger case for or against the dev.
Bump. I use go sms, so I would really like to know if this app is doing any other malicious things.

Too true. The last product I used years back was GO SMS, and I stopped after they started insisting on registering for their Go Chat service and backing up SMS. I couldn't even unregister from Go Chat once I logged in by mistake, and they never responded to my emails about deleting my account. Very shady behaviour.

Go Launcher + EX were my first "custom" ones but after reading about their data-collection-stories I've decided to go and stick with Apex Launcher never regretted doing so. I always thought Go was and is too agressive in pushing their widgets, services I don't like that

Exactly. I used Go Launcher EX & Go SMS Pro a lot on CM7. They were good till they became creepy. And most of the services were opt-out not opt-in. That's sucks.

A key question now is can the "Next" launcher be trusted? Can anybody run the same packet tests on this one? I'm officially ready to remove Go (launcher Ex from my old Tbolt and HD/Pad from my TF300) but I wonder if I'm also going to remove Next from a device.

Not sure, but just to be safe I'd stay awake from anything by the Go Dev Team. Too shady for my taste.

NEW - Learn and monetize your uninstalls

Hi, we are launching a new platform to allow app and game developers to get real time user feedback and monetize with every game uninstall. So, hold your breath…OR…
If you prefer to get an earlier test drive, we are opening a limited BETA for developers. Drop us a line and tell us how many daily uninstalls you have and let us know if you are interested to take part in the BETA or if you have any other question. Our email is: [email protected]

How exactly are you monetizing uninstalls? Wont that be very annoying for the user? First they hate my app and don't want it, and then they need to watch some type of ad too? Doesn't sound like a good way to get good reviews...
Exactly my thoughts
Uninstall Monetization
$$$$$$$$$
Actually find a new way wanted your opinion about.
I have my flag app with over 1M install called Signal Boosters (Fred Baker)
I was trying to monetize creating my own offerwall and taking offers from the networks, long story, that didn't really hit the jackpot for me.
I had a huge problem of uninstalls (70%) since the walls didn't really work so I got really interested in the uninstall event and how to capture it.
Over a year I was able to capture the uninstall event using and launch a browser at the moment of uninstallation without leaving any traces or processes running on the devices afterwards (no trojans or anything that gets you banned)
(I saw some very popular and known apps use this implementation to survey the users that uninstalled and that was my inspiration)
I wasn't sure how to use it without pissing off someone and if it's actually allowed so I integrated it in my app and never talked to anyone about it.
A month ago or so I came across a company called APPJOLT doing exactly that.
I registered and entered their dashboard and saw they developed a whole system around this technique with the purpose to offer your users an incentive to come back to your app or cross-promote to other apps.
They have an option for free cross-promotion campaign so it hit me right away I can use their system with a CPI offer I took for my offerwall from one of the networks, so at the moment of uninstall it will show the offer and I will get paid for it.
I couldn't believe it but it worked, I see almost 1K uninstalls a day and generate around 70 conversions which generates $30-50 a day.
Not sure if I hit gold or not, just wanted to ask the members of this forum how can I improve this flow? or am I missing anything?
$$$$$$$$$
Please be aware that it might be against google policy. There is no notification about that your app has been uninstalled (or the uninstallation started), so they use background service that checkes if the user is currently trying to uninstall your app. Also, the earnings reported here are very high (eCPM $30 - $50), while ad networks pay usually between $1 - $3 for interstitial ads, I don't think you can get such high eCPM for uninstallations, I would expect something at least 10x lower.
Cool idea but it's hard to make it practical and implement it. So, how exactly are you monetizing from uninstalls I wonder..
I can guaranty you that you will get A LOT of 1 star. I will for sure install the game again just to give it 1 star.
