Airplane Mode + Bluetooth in HC Stock - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Just upgraded to HC after receiving my View yesterday. I'm not much of a hacker, so I went the stock OTA route. I don't plan to activate this tablet on Sprint, so I'm running in airplane mode. HC won't seem to allow me to turn on Bluetooth in this mode. Works fine if I exit from Airplane mode. Any suggestions to enable this configuration (airplane + Bluetooth)? Or should I just turn off the data radios and not run in Airplane mode? Will this have an adverse impact on battery life if I do this?

Now that Globatron has posted a way back if I don't like it, I went ahead and took the OTA HC update on the View.
I was unable to get bluetooth to turn on when in airplane mode initially. I did a factory reset and now it works. You will have to reinstall your apps and reconfigure your accounts if you decide to do this. It's probably better to do a fresh install of the apps anyway on a new OS.

Disabling Phone Service Completely? (root?)

Ok dumb question, but does anyone know how I could go about completely disabling the phone service portion of the Eris so I can give it to my kid as a super PDA and gaming device? I assume this would require root access. Before my eris I used a Sony Clie PDA and was happy with it until the Eris came out. Once I retire my Eris for the Incredible or something more powerful I dont just want to throw the Eris away (recycle). Anyone have any clues?
I do know you can disable 3G, and use airplane mode, but airplane mode kills wifi, and bluetooth completely. There must be a way to do use part of airplane mode without killing the wifi/bluetooth completely.
Not hard
It's really not too hard at all. The phone will work if you simply deactivate it's esn from verizon. You can then use all the other features almost like an ipod touch.
There are some more extreme methods but this will work perfectly...
I'd just disconnect the phone from Verizon's network, root it and go with a custom ROM. That way, your new-found PDA has an emergency-phone built-in. Disable 3G/1x data in the phone's settings and call it a day.
Since it's for your kid, having that emergency-phone built-in may not be such a bad idea.
Airplane Mode
or go into ##PST, and you can do a lot of damage to the settings.
Airplane mode does not kill wifi entirely. It turns it off but you are able to turn it back on whilst having your radio turned off. Not sure if bluetooth works the same way since I don't use it for anything.
I have an Eris with a bad ESN from craigslist (looks like someone flashed 2.1 leak on it) and I use it primarily as a music player/gmote/vlc remote in airplane mode with wifi on.
Oh yeah and the battery lasts for days like that unless I do heavy music listening.

[Q] Convert to Wifi only

I'm getting a second hand Streak 5". I don't have AT&T, but I recall hearing that dell had also made a Wifi only model. My question is: can I load a Wifi only rom (are there even any?) on it and disable the phone/3G?
There are no wifi only streak 5's only streak 7's have a wifi inly model
try dialing *#4636#*#* (*#*#INFO#*#*) then press call.
try phone information, I beleive there is a button to turn radio off, which should completly disable 3G radio.
Not sure if this will stick after reboot, but I think it should.
settings also gives you the option to turn off data, etc. and if there's no SIM card in it, I dont imagine it will use any radio.
I use APNDroid which seems to disable radio pertty successfully, only allowing wifi connections.
I use my Streak 5 in wifi only mode.
I started off just not having a SIM in it, but I found that cell standby was still eating loads of battery - as much as the phone idle was, due to the fact that they are still able to make emergency calls even without a sim.
The really simple solution is that I installed Widgetsoid and added a widget with toggles for Airplane mode and for Wifi on it. I assume any widget app that allows these toggles would work. I then turn Airplane mode on, which kills the cellular radio, both 2g and 3g, and turn on wifi when I need it - which overrides the airplane disable.
I've even found that JuiceDefender can auto-toggle wifi while in airplane mode based on running apps, though only after rebooting while in airplane mode - before the reboot, it quite sensibly saw airplane mode and left the radios all off.
Thanks for the tips.
Got it up and running nice, again thanks for the tips.
And just to clarify, even if I throw a custom rom (probably StreakDroid) I can't pull phone/3g functionality? Could I pull some apks from the StreakDroid zip to get make it wifi only, or would I need a custom kernel?

[Q] Data doesn't work, airplane mode is the only fix... any ideas?

I posted a question about this last week thinking it was a wifi problem, but it turns out it happens when I'm on data too, so it's an overall data problem... I'm just using wifi most of the time so that was the only place I had noticed it.
Occasionally my phone will stop being able to send/receive data. I'll turn it on and try to load a web page, for example, and it will just hang. Turning wifi on/off doesn't fix it, and turning data on/off doesn't seem to fix it either. The only solution I've found is going into airplane mode for a second. The frequency varies.. it seems to happen between 1-5 times a day, so it's pretty inconvenient.
I've read around a bit and it sounds like it's caused by the phone trying to get a 4G connection but it isn't able to or something, so it just hangs there and never lets the 3g/wifi connections get used (due to priority of connections or something). I almost always have wifi and don't care that much about data speeds, so if disabling 4g altogether would fix the problem I'm game (although I'd prefer another solution...). I tried the *#*#4636#*#* code to change it to GSM only (I read somewhere that that'll disable 4g), but it instantly reverts back to what it originally was, so that doesn't seem like it'll work. Is there another way to disable 4g?
I've got the stock ROM running Entropy's latest DD kernel.
I've had this same exact issue while running Miui and the Siyah kernel. What I've narrowed it down to is likely to be some sort of power save mode that kicks in when the phone goes into deep sleep mode. I haven't had the issue since I've ran the Kernel cleaning scripts and reflashed the latest Siyah kernel, but it reappears occasionally. On certain releases of Siyah, I've ran SetCPU at a minimum of 200Mhz to keep the phone from going into deep sleep just so it wouldn't turn off the cell radio.
Also, as a side note, I've had this happen when my phone loses signal. After so much searching, it will turn off the entire cell radio and display "Emergency Calls Only" until Airplane mode is toggled.
I had this same problem even back with my Captivate. Hoping ICS won't have the same issue. I'm running CM7 and Siyah kernel.
I am having the same problem Data wont work until i turn airplane mode on and off

Have you found a resolution?

[Q] Virgin Prepaid Kyocera Event - WiFi phone

Radio Shack had this phone on sale for $14 cash this weekend, I picked up a couple of them to setup to use for WiFi text/music/YouTube phones for my kids.
I have rooted them and now just want to get rid of the Virgin Mobile automatic profile update that attempts to happen when I power on the phone. If possible, I would like to permanently disable the cellular data/voice modem as well leaving WiFi enabled.
Anyone know what app I should disable/remove through titanium backup to do this?
I have absolutely no intention of ever activating these phones for traditional cell service. They will strictly be used as WiFi android devices. Basically a cheapo alternative to an iPod.
I have set the phone for airplane mode and then enabled WiFi to prevent them from making calls, this is a reasonable solution but they could turn on the cell radio and start trying to activate, although they wouldn't get far as they don't have a way to provide payment anyway.
Problem is their mother isn't the brightest and when they are away at mom's, I would like to be able to text them and not be on the phone with her troubleshooting them constantly.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
> just want to get rid of the Virgin Mobile automatic profile update that attempts to happen when I power on the phone.
1) Turn on Airplane mode with power button. 2) wait 10 seconds, 3) turn on WiFi
Should stop this. You still get a message on bootup, but it will NOT cycle off/on WiFi like it doesn't if you don't turn on airplane mode.

[Somewhat Resolved] LGG3 wifi and hotspot not working

When I turn my wifi on, it does nothing. My hotspot doesn't work either. Problem started last week after I switched into airplane mode.
What I've tried:
-reboot phone
-cycle wifi and airplane mode
-clear cache and data for Android and Google processes
-reflash zv8 modem
-factory data reset
-wifi fixer android app
Nothing has worked so far. The only hardware change that i made was to replace the audio [headphone] jack and replace the battery with another brand new OEM battery.
LGG3 LS990
Sprint
Stock ZV8
Nova prime launcher
Stock kernel
Bumped and stumped
TWRP recovery
Any help would be appreciated.
I was able to resolve this issue. Apparently, there is an issue with the wifi and airplane mode on the lgg3 with lollipop 5.0. I found some other folks having the same issues on a t-mobile msg board.
What I did to resolve:
Turn wifi and wifi calling on.
Turn airplane mode on.
Long press wifi to view access points and wait for them to appear.
Disable airplane mode and select access point.
Problem solved.
In my case, it was absolutely a software issue. I will update if this issue returns.
Issue came back after an incoming call. Unable to get wifi back on using method stated previously. Still trying to mess with the phone.
Dangit.
