There is an app called AppManager which was used with the Nook Color which will put 3rd party apps on your default launcher home screen for the nook tablet without the use of a 3rd party launcher such as ADWlauncher for Go Launcher EX.
Download Nook Color App Manager from the Android Market. This will allow you to place 3rd party apps on the home screens.
or if you've installed apps and can't find them, hit the "n" key to bring up the menu bar and choose "search". Then start typing in the name of the app and it should come up, allowing you to start it that way.

is there another place we can get this, it is no longer available on the market.
I hate to revive an old thread. But I was reading through the NT how-to's and stuff and I came across the App Manager reference but it's not available on the market anymore. Is there another app or something we can do to get app shortcuts on the NT home screen?
A couple of seconds on Google gave me http://www.appszoom.com/android_applications/tools/nook-color-app-manager_ykey.html
It doesn't work on 1.4.3 though. 1.4.2 is fine.
That links back to the google play store that doesn't have it anymore. Anyone have the APK? The NT I have has 1.4.2 on it.

Ooops! Sorry! But do a Google and explore some search results and I'm confident you'll find it. I know I did last week without too much difficulty.

When I rooted my Wife's NT it broke the stock email app. Is the APK floating around anywhere so I can re-install it?
Also, has anyone figured out how to get apps from the App Market or Amazon Market to show up in the Nook Library?
My wife like the Nook stock GUI but I can not seem to added new apps to it that are not purchased through the B&N Market...
I meant to post this in Q&A. Feel free to move it! Thanks!

For the second part, yes.
Download Nook Color App Manager from the Market and launch it once. This will add it to your Nook Apps screen. You can then move it to one of the home screens (this, unfortunately, you have to do) and launch it from there. After that, you can select anything you've installed and add it to the stock Apps screen.
The only down side is that Market installed apps will not run from the My Apps screen. They have to be copied to one of the homescreens first.
Thanks the the tip on the "App Manager"
Strange that the app icons have to be launched from the home screen and not the "library". Any idea why it works that way?
I received my Nook Tablet for Christmas, and of course the first thing I do is root it (using Nook&Zergy). Now that I have access to the market, I ask myself"wheres all the apps?" I assume that it was the Android market filter hiding incompatible apps. So later on I try to side load and get errors. So now I just want to know how to get apps to work? I also blocked OTA's.
[In a nutshell]
What I know:
-Nook runs tweaked Gingerbread
-Honeycomb app I try to install get a parseing error when I try to install(most likely do to api's)
-Market has limited app selection.
What I want to know:
- Is it possible to get Honey comb apps to run(for example adobe touch apps, sketchbook pro hd ect...)
-Why is the android market selection so limited
-What is a parsing error?
- If you have any more advice feel free to share
Thank you!
I'm having same issue
Im having the same problem. Google maps, Evernote, Facebook all do not show up in market. When I use the browser to access the market it says these apps are incompatible. Also words with friends installs and opens but doesn't show properly, the chat window overlaps the game board so you can't see it. Is this a dpi issue? I've seen other posts that maybe dpi needs to be changed to 160. If so, How is this done?

Gingerbread can't run honeycomb apps. I have evernote and some other apps I have found through other sites, however i have not got facebook to run yet.
The apps are limited because of the fingerprint of the device, but people have spoofed the build.prop file to gain access to more of the market. See other threads.
I have facebook and twitter running on my rooted nook right now. I took the apks from my phone backups and put them in dropbox, downloaded and installed. (That was actually before I rooted) but they are working fine and the widgets work on the homescreens. I did that with all of the apps I wanted from my phone.
If this helps, I created a tutorial on how to download apps not showing up in the Marketplace.

Came home from dinner turned on my NT and had notification my software was updated. I did NOT ROOT my tablet.
What I had done was follow directions found on this forum for accessing the device setting and checked allow downloads from unknown sources. I also followed the directions for the USB DEBUGGING but I never planned to ROOT my NT for various reasons. So after reading all the recent posts on the 1.4.1 update I fully expected to lose my access to the apps I downloaded from the amazon app store (including Sykpe) and my access to the Amazon app store but everything still works. My alternate home menu, my go launcher everything.

Yes, but you can't sideload more apps.
The OTA doesn't stop you from accessing the apps you already downloaded, it stops you from being able to download any further apps from Amazon. Did you try to download an app from Amazon's market?
On another note, I did root my NT and BN will not be able to send updates to it anymore and undo my root. I also kept my BN platform for when I want to use it. That way I still get to enjoy both worlds but not pay BN for an Words with Friends app.
Spoke to soon, can't load new apps after 1.4.1
Sorry for the confusion, while I have not lost my alt home screen my go launcher or any of my apps obtained from the amazon app store and while I still have access to the store I can no longer load any apps I get the message only authorized B&N apps may be loaded.

Did you manage to get all the apps that you wanted before the update?
If not, there is a thread detailing how to perform a quick restore to factory. Not sure if this will bring you back to 1.4.0 though.
I just bought my Nook Tablet form BBuy. It's firmware 1.4.0 I installed some 3rd party apps (Aldiko, kindle, amazon store which work fine. However, I have issues with ADW and Launcher Pro, and I can only get some apps to run. I know that is a a common issue, but I would like to delete the apps that do not work and launchers, but I cannot find out how. I have no need for two launchers, so I'd like to delete Launcher pro -because it wont even launch- but I cannot figure out how to do it. Also gmail -which I read all over this site works- does not work, and I would like to delete it as well. It still pops sup in my searches so I know it's installed somewhere. My other issue is launching ADW. The only way I can get it to launch is when I power off the device and it auto launches into it on power up. If I search for any combination of ADW it does not come up in my lists. So if I exit ADW I have no way to get back into it. Any help would be great. I'm just about to throw this thing out a window and just get a Fire instead.
Okay so i'm a noob at the nook tablet myself but i'll try to give you some ideas..
The apps that don't run.. you don't say.. but i can tell you that honeycomb apps probably won't work so you'd need to make sure they are not for that version of android
This thread gives you great apps that work on the nook tablet
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353040
you should definitely consider loading app Manager to have side loaded apps appear on the nook home screen.. and Button Saviour so you can get to the alternate home screen (launcher pro, go launcher whatever you use..)
There is great info in this forum. and honestly it took me a day of reading but now my nook rocks...
I've been using my nook for almost a week and i can tell you it's a great little tablet for the price.. i bought it after selling my ipad2 and wanted something to use whilst waiting for the ipad3.. i can tell you now.. i'll be keep this nook tablet as it is a great size for reading and covers all my surfing and movie watching needs.. the kindle fire is good but having also owned that for a couple of days before returning.. i can tell you the limited storage space and inferior screen put me off...
Lol. I had read thatbthread at least 4 times and never saw how to delete apps until now. Installed google framework and now my youtube app doesnt work, and gmail still doesnt work.
You need to install NTHiddensettings.apk in order to delete apps from the Nook.
As I mentiined, I figured out how to delete, but does anyone know where the apk.s download to so i can remove, after installing them?
Seriously? No one knows where the apks download to? Also, how in gods name do you get gmail to work side-loaded. All my other questions have been answered per linked thread.
/data/app
And did you root and install gapps? Without that, I don't think you're going to be able to use gmail.

No not rooted. People are claiming successful installation of gmail, google+, and other google services specific apps, but I get the "Unable to establish stable connection" every time I try to side load them.

Are you saying others have side loaded these apps without rooting? I don't think they work without the Google services framework, which you have to root to install.

I went and made it so my NT was 1.4.0 and then blocked it using the OTA update provided by AdamOutlier(sp?) and the version number says 9.9.9 now. However, I installed the Go Launcher Ex. Unfortunately, I accidentally clicked the button 'keep as default' and then clicked the normal Nook Tablet home button. So now I can no longer get to the the GO Laucher. Is there a way to get it back? Unable to locate any setting that I can change it back to.

Absolutely. There's a great app in the Android Market called Default App Manager Lite. It's free and it allows you to clear default apps, including what your home button is sent to.
Here's a link to the app's market page; if you access it from your Nook's browser you should be able to open it in the Market:

I did gain the ability to install a third party manga reader app which is really the only thing I wanted extra so I was ok. Now I am unable to reach it though and im getting manga withdrawls lol...
