Hello,
I have been having some issues with the Gin-Sen-Tazz Rom for Eris. First of all, this ROM is AMAZING. It is extremely smooth and easy to OC my Eris on this one. The only problem is that my data just drops on its own. Now, I've been wanting to list this on the [FIX] 3g Data drops on GB Sense Roms Thread but couldn't due to my less than 10 posts (or post it on the actual Gin-Sen-Tazz ROM thread). I'm not sure if my problem is the same as those on the [FIX] 3g Data drops on GB Sense Roms Thread. I've done those steps but still it just drops. The way it does it, usually when the screen is off and after a while of inactivity, it just goes out (the whole 3g/data). As if I manually turned off the data. When I try to turn it on (either via the widget/shortcuts or through Settings) it just say "turning on..." but doesn't. I have reverted back to a different ROM but remember something saying about..."Radio" something something in the "Wireless Networks / Mobil Network" check box. The data will never turn on unless i Restart the phone and even then it turns off after a while. I've installed the ROM MANY times, done all the wipes, all the Reverting Back to Stock and all that and avoided doing the *228 AFTER the ROM install. I'm hoping one of you genius' who are inventing these things, and by the way - GREAT JOB! could help me out. Please let me know if I need to add something to this lengthy question.
Thanks!!!
Does data work alright when running stock 2.1 after flashing Flashback21 v2?
I'll post a link to your question in both the 3g data drop fix thread and the Gin-Sen-Tazz thread so more people can come and help you figure this out.
Thanks for putting this in the dev forums for us... I'll have to load up gst in the am and check, but if I'm not mistaken, there are some powersave settings that might affect that. I'll report back tomorrow.
thanks!

I'll do some digging around when I get a chance too. What radio are you using BTW? Not 100% certain its that but I know on inc certain radios don't play well with gb sense. I know when I was running gst with the hero radio I didn't have and data issues but I did with the radio from Eris ota. I'll do some digging though and see if I can find anything. One thing you can try in the meantime though. Instead of rebooting, have you tried switching airplane mode on for a few seconds then back off? Doing this usually got my data back on for me instead of having to reboot.

The 3g drop is a known issue w/that rom. It happened daily to me the entire time I was using that rom. If you reboot the phone, like the others said, you will get the data connection back. I think the airplane mode trick works too.

Yes, Sir. Works like a charm...I'm using xtraSENSE right now and it works great. I've noticed, you know how on some phones/ROM's you can go into settings and have it automatically turn off data after so long of not using it. I've had that option on my Thunderbolt (when the screen is off) and when you turn on the screen the data connects, well, its kind of like that, except, it never connects and the setting reads something like "Connecting to....." can't remember the rest. I've noticed the xtraSENSE automatically disconnects data but connects perfectly when I turn on the screen.
Thanks!

CS, yep I've tried the Airplane mode. When I do that, the mode turns on, when I turn it off, the data still does not connect...as far as Radio, I'm not sure where to find that (I even tried googling it). However, when I used that link to revert ALL back to stock and there was that option to do the radio thing as well, I did that step, too. I hope that helps and thanks a mill!

Yep, Powersave Settings lol that's the name I was looking for on my previous post. And that's a great way to explain it. I think, if that ROM had an option to turn that powersave feature off, I think that would be nice only because it would not turn off on its own. But that just seems more like a shortcut and I'm certain that, for you guys, its a piece of cake to get to the root of the glitch.
THanks!!

Yeah, I wish it'd work for me. Its a great ROM, I'd put up with it until it would get fixed.
yea post 3, 4 idk 5 more minutes
I'm ganna try turning the power save feature off on this Rom and see if that works. Great idea, never noticed that before. Only thing is for me it seems to happen more often when I receive a text or a phone call when my phones locked (or "off"). I did notice that when my phone is active and I'm using it, I see the data turn off (3g icon disappears) and I just get my phone signal, whenever I recieve a text or phone call. I have not noticed this before on other roms. But then again, I have been known to be very un-observent before....

Dunno if anyone is still following this thread, but I've had a small breakthrough with the data drop issue in the sense gb roms 3g drop issue. I had power saver mode disabled all day yesterday and my 3g never dropped! Still to early to say if this is actually working or if i was just lucky, but in my experience my 3g would drop at least 1 time a day and sometimes more. So far so good. I will report back again in a couple of days of testing to let you know if this is a working "fix".

Doesn't work, 3g dropped last night. Back to the drawing boards.

Yeah .... unfortunate...
Demandarin posted this earlier in answer to a person having WiFi (edit: actually shutdown) issues.
Did you by any chance happen to just recently install Google chrome beta browser? If so, clear its app cache, data, and uninstall it. Seems this app might be the culprit. Others posted same issue as you. Plus they had chrome bets. Then they uninstalled it. And now their prime working fine. There's posts in other threads on it.

I tried it, removed Chrome app cache, data, and then uninstalled Chrome.
Tried a few SpeedTests outside at WiFi marginal location about 45 feet away from router. (I get almost 11 Mbps inside, 30 feet or so from router.)
With Chrome installed, about 2 Mbps.
Uninstalled Chrome, about 4 Mbps.
How about you?
EDIT: SORRY, I messed up, although the post was by Demandarin, the OP (curly9) of the thread "most recent wifi bluetooth update" actually had a problem about Prime shutting off. Sorry for the confusion.

I'll bet my life that Chrome has no impact on WiFi. Using the Speedtest app is really not the best way to test speeds. Since you're going outside of your home network, there are MANY outside variables that will impact your results, and you are not going to get consistent results.
If you really want to get a true measure of your WiFi, the best thing to do is to download a large file from a PC on your home network to your tablet and watch the speed.

Sounds good. Could you outline the steps to "download" a large file from PC to tablet. What software to use, etc., I would guess on tablet to do this?
Thanks for your help.

You have a few options. I have an FTP server set up on my home PC with free software called "Filezilla." I then use an app called "ANDftp" to connect to it from my tablet and download files. I used a 1 GB movie file and watched the speed.
Another way you can go is to download a free app called "ES Explorer." It gives you a few options to connect to PCs on your network and download files. One of them, SAMBA, is based on basic windows file sharing, so if you enable windows file sharing, you should be able to see your shared folders using ES File Explorer. I'm not sure if that app shows you download speed like ANDftp does though.
I posted that to a wifi issue..lol. maybe i did. I saw people with drain issues or screen wake issues say had problems when they installed chrome. Then they uninstalled chrome n issues went away.rebooting also. While it is very weird n far fetched, too much coincidence with that app just being installed n new issues people were having. And this was even before the latest update came out. I saw someone, I think NYJedi, first post on wondering if chrome was causing issues. If I have the person incorrect, my bust. But it was someone. Then I just followed the trend of people uninstalling it.
Why is Chrome being blamed for everything from Wifi issues, lockups etc?? Too many newbs making threads on this site now, you hear one person state a stupid opinion and then we get hundreds of post claiming the same stupid thing. Chrome is not a Kernel people, its an app, it will not nterfere with yur wifi, its not the cause of lockups(this was happening BEFORE chrome was released) etc. However, I heard that touching the Prime's screen often will cause a buildup of fingerprints..Oh nooo, Asus has really screwed up NOW!!

All it takes is one post like that to create a mass hysteria and another 30 threads on the subject. I would personally send you a check for $10.00 if it is confirmed that Chrome has caused these issues. I'm really starting to believe that we are having a surge in first-time android users..while some complaints are justified, others are just mind-boggling!

I did make a post about Chrome in relation to an overnight lockup, but not in relation to WiFi. In my situation, I had had ZERO lockups since installing ICS the first day it was released. I then installed Chrome the day it was released, and that night, I had my first ever lockup, where I woke up and my Prime would not turn on (had to use the reset pinhole). This happened the night before installing the .13 update, so the only thing that changed for me between installing ICS and getting my first and only lockup was the installation of Chrome. Could this have been a coincidence? Sure, but I'm not sure that it was, and I thought it was worth mentioning.

An app can cause lockups when being used and if it has background services those can cause wakelocks that will destroy battery life. However I totally agree with you about the wifi issue...lol

I didn't start the rumor..lmao I've seen several others post on it before I even said anything about it. The numbers were adding up and too much coincidence with installing app then issues. Then uninstalling then issues go away. I just followed the trend of uninstalling it. Plus a badly coded app or whatever can cause device to act funny so that's nothing new.

lol! Yes I know, but I was stating that the lockup issue started for most people before Chrome was released. I don't think it would only cause lockup issues for some if the app was not working correctly with ICS

I think it was just people feeling like "well if he says the cause is *X* than the cause must be *X* because I have that app too. That's like me saying that the google market is causing wifi issues, and everyone agreeing because the have the market installed also Please don's scare our new members, we must teach them the ways of the force
But you can't deny the facts that some uninstalled Chrome and the issues they had after installing Chrome went away. Hmm, sound familiar with some OS...Windows?
Sorry, I confused things a bit...
SORRY, I messed up, although the post was by Demandarin, the OP (curly9) of the thread "most recent wifi bluetooth update" actually had a problem about Prime shutting off. Sorry for the confusion.
Another person also posted (photogf4) also posted positive results.
Well..
I have no problems with Chrome on .11 nor do I have any problems with Chrome on my Galaxy Nexus. I've used it as the main browser since it was released on both devices.
Chrome does impact your battery life a little if you use sync, since it has background services related to synchronizing the browser, but the impact is minimal based on my experience so far. When I had WiFi on and the screen off my battery went down 3% in four hours. When I had WiFi off and screen off, the drain was just 1% in four hours. No crashes, no sleep of death issues.
If Chrome causes issues in .13 then it is because of something ASUS did and not something Google has done with Chrome Beta, because it's totally fine for me on .11.

On previous HTC devices using this option would cause a wakelock. It also didn't increase performance at all. So this option would be a big ymmv.

I didn't say it doesn't "work", i stated it caused a wakelock on other htc devices and offered no performance gains. Wakelock=battery drain
My wifi has been kind of bouncy. I'll give it a shot.
Probably some over agressive power save mode when that option is off.

Hmmm, I tested my speed with SpeedTest on WIFI and I get 25 down/ 25 up which is exactly what I have for FIOS.
I suspect my Bouncy issue is the option to shut WIFI off when asleep.
So I'm gonna try leaving it on while asleep.
Not sure how my older Android devices behaved in that regard. Never touched these options before.
I have learned a lot of practical things, thank you!
Hello guys. I bought a Galaxy Note i717 from ebay a few weeks ago. I planned to use it as a spare phone, so I normally kept it at home for my nephew to play videogames or used it for work, always on airplane mode connected to wifi. Two week ago I started using it with a sim card and I noticed the battery drains really fast. I purchased two OEM batteries thinking it might be a problem with the battery, but it wasn´t. Battery holds for approximately 4 hours with normal use. I tried a factory reset but it didn´t worked at all.
Phone is running stock 4.1.2 since I got it. I was thinking on rooting and installing a custom rom and kernel, but I am wondering if it is some hardware issue because in come cases I´ve noticed the phone is a little bit overheated even without using it to much.
Any advices? Should I try the custom rom or did I lost my money?
When the Note was updated to 4.1.2 Jellybean alot of users complained of rapid battery drain. There are some great roms out there..Bigfu or Ptrm3..just search development. I have tried them all and they all have something to offer. The developers here are great for us average users who sit back and wait for a new rom. The At&t update was horrible for me used it one day then switched to custom rom.

You mentioned that the problem started since you put a sim in it. Could the problem be that you are in a weak service area and the phone is constantly searching for a better connection? That can kill a battery quickly without using the phone.

That´s the moment I started noticing the battery drain because that´s when I was using the phone regularly. Before that, I just left it at home for my nephew to play some games or just used it for sending some work emails at home, so I never noticed if the battery was running out fast or not.

Hey all. Recently switched to T-Mobile and got the g2. I immediately rooted it to customize things how I wanted them. Everything I have been doing has been with WiFi enabled. I never turn it off, honestly. In just about 10 days, I hit my 3 gig data cap, and have no idea how. I was rooted, and thought my Rom could be part of the reason, so I KDZ flashed back to stock. Now all my data usage is wiped, but obviously still at data cap. Is there anyway I could take it into the store? It's going to look really bad on my end when I tell them I factory reset my phone because I hit data cap, but it just doesn't make sense. I never came anywhere close to 3 gigs of data on Verizon, and that was a whole months use with not much WiFi involved. A bit irritated right now.... any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your rom is indeed part of the reason you hit the cap so quickly. I've only got 2gb of data myself so I understand. I'd try a different rom, I wouldn't bother bringing it into a store as they will know your rooted unless of course your out of warranty but either way don't give them the benefit of them even knowing

You could try re-flashing the ROM and take a look at what's draining your data. I'm sure the ROM's creator(s) would like to know if there's a bug that is causing excess bandwidth usage.
This thread is worth looking at. It might be a setting you made or app you installed, or some setting/app in the particular ROM you installed that you enabled or is enabled by default. ghling's issue was that certain services were constantly trying to sync, but syncing was disabled because of something he installed because he didn't want those services, so it just kept trying to sync over and over and over, causing massive bandwidth usage.

Well, it seems the denied access rights were the problem, after reverting them (or better: disable app ops for the play services) everything is back to normal. It's a bit strange that it took some days until the problem occurred, but that's how it sometimes is.
Thank you again for your help.

What does he mean by denied access rights? Thanks!
Not sure if this helps or not but I've noticed the rom I am currently running all of the sudden shows 4G and WiFi running at the same exact time. That seems to be a possible issue I think... I have to check my usage to be sure

You don't happen to be running SlimRom are you? I think that was the issue most likely. I was downloading a large KDZ, while on wifi, and all of a sudden my browser data usage jumped to 1.5 gig's out of no where. This was actual data usage, not wifi usage.
It might be worth to double-check with T-Mobile if you really actually hit your data limit. I heard some bad news about their business practices and I could imagine them trying to skim off some data bandwidth from people that would not hit their data limit. Just a thought ... I might be wrong, though

He used an app to deny access rights to certain Google services. Permissions is a better word, since that's what Android uses. He didn't want them to connect to the internet for syncing, but the app he used to deny permissions didn't stop the services from trying, which caused it to be constantly trying/failing, which used up his data allotment.
It's entirely possible that the ROM you flashed has some sort of syncing or updating issue with some app or service and is doing the same thing. You should have checked to see what was using all your data before doing a reset.
