my GDX v17 stucked many times after i installed too many applications...but there was 100 MB free of internal memory...also i want to move all my data to external with some utlity which can move and prepare any kind of data only in SD card...such system data dalvik and everything should be on SD cArd....i think developers should look into this....we have enough roms...please start working on making ROMS more powerful & faster, a rom which can repair itself during crashes and while it gets rebooted....flashing everytime is not good for our mobiles....i respect all developers and thanks for looking into this....
unlocking bootloader is actually advantageous.
PLUS the latest flashtool version have an option to unlock it for noobs, if you think the process is all mindfuck.
Its a one click method.
I've seen that method with just one button click, but, if you unlock your bootloader, yo lose your warranty right?? Is there any way for locking back??
What happen if I unlock my bootloader, what are those advantage you mean??
I'll keep on minicm7 by paul...!
flashtool
which flashtool version is that....or if there any easy way to unlock and lock bootloader again...please suggest the version and link if possible....
quick action required
does anyone know the not all data is getting transferred to sd card after the installation of applications, RAM gets occupied if ur using 100 of application if all data is moved to sd card, for eg in 8GB card, we can have more memory , please give me link if anyone is working or have something useful on this topic, i will say it again, no disrespect, i also want a perfect ROM, EYAMAalso i would like to know, when can i get super zipper locker for GO launcher, it wont work on x10 mini pro, it only works with HD phones. i really want this with customized wallpaper mode.

ok this is a tutorial for those people stuck on a login screen.
first-off im not a develloper (far from it)
all info here is made by others and i do not take credit for it!
credits are @ the bottom.
since this question keeps popping up all over the forum and i had a bricked se myself i used a whole bunch of "tutorials" wich all lead to nothing,
so the i started fiddling around since it was broken anyway.
let me first explain i would like to thank the community here for offering all these great tools wich allow us to modify and restore our se.
ok so when i started my phone was completly bricked.
@ 1 point i managed to install xrecovery and accidentally installed a x10 version of a update.zip file...
i managed to flash that update.zip of a x10 version to my x10 mini pro wich completly destroyed my system.
i had no chance to boot in xrecovery because i am a complete noop in installing any kind of script to a android phone.
(if i were pro i would not have bricked it to start of with )
i accidentally wiped xrecovery in one of my previous attempts to "fix" my se with the flashtool ...yes i forgot to run the good update.zip out of the firmwares folder and choose the wipeuserdata option wich removed my xrecovery that i had installed....
so everything that could go wrong went wrong...
since it didnt really matter what i did with my freshly created brick i started digging around on the forums and found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
wich is a great way to flash roms to a previous version.
so i downloaded the tool 0.26 was the version wich i used.
after i got the tool installed i downloaded a new "old" rom.
i had too fool the se companion tool that i was using a old version.
these roms are found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826455
pick anyone because it does not matter at all (since im dutch i used the dutch version)
even though my system files were messed up to a point of no return the rom installed just fine but did not boot... but now i had atleast a older rom installed.
so i started the se companion and crossed my fingers...
and it updated! because the old rom was predated to their latest firmware they pushed out the update wich fixed the system files and gave me the latest firmware.
but now ofcourse i was on a stock rom not rooted or anything.
since i am such a noob at this i tried a new all in one script made by mikevhl
found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10596265#post10596265
it automaticly rooted my phone, installed busybox and xrecovery
after that i just ran the keyboard layout fix found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822050
but now i needed apps2sd because that was the only reason i ever started this madness called upgrading....
but instead i found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919326
it is not apps2sd!! but links2sd
Instead of moving all applications to SD card with app2sd, I want to move only selected applications.
Because I don't want to move my launcher, soft keyboard and dialer application to SD and make them unavaliable on boot if my SD card has problem or not inserted.
and because this is a apk even a geek like me can install that with astro..
please note that Link2SD does not move data and dalvik-cache, it only moves the apk file. This is what Android 2.2+ does. APKs are actually on the card; the dex files, private data directories, and native shared libraries remain in internal storage.
for actual apps2sd i would reffer you to use any other script/installation w/e. after all my failures i could not be asked anymore and found that this sollution was more than enough for me
the only thing you need to do is partition your sd card wich is verry easy and there is a perfect tutorial allready found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=SD_card_partitioning
so now i changed my bricked phone wich i considered dead to a working latest firmware rooted xrecovery links2sd working phone in less than a hour..
i would like to thank:
Androxyde and bin4ry for flashtool!
whooper90 for his keyboard-layout tutorial!
Mikevhl for his perfect script!
bakpinar for his links2sd program!
and ofcourse everyone contributing to their projects.
amen
a good post.thank you
nice post but i want you to point at an easier way
when you soft bricked your devices and i think i am one that have done that the most in this forum lol
have restores my soft bricked pro for more like 350 times now...
pull battery out open SEUS go further till you see you need to connect your phone
plug usb cable in it hold back button and put battery back in
and you rom will be flashed
this will always work coz we have s1 bootloader and thanks for that SE!
unless you go **** around with the boatloader ofc xD
i recently moved on to yet another mobile phone which i hope to be using for a couple of months since the se was not entirely to my liking but yes your method works fine ofcourse unless your bootloader is messed up
anyways i just expressed my way of fixing my problem on the situation i got myself into..which is probably verry simmilar to most nubs messing around on a android the first time and end up with a soft bricked phone... and to help them understand their bricked phone i wrote my little tut just for the nubs like myself.
what if i stuck at the SE logo?
my problem already solved now..thanx every1..xda roxx
O.K.. I finally made the upgrade from my old E10i (Mini) to a Neo..
I've been comparing phones for months now and chose the Neo for its Superior Camera, forward facing camera for skype calls, Dedicated HDMI port and the recent news of the Live dock which will enable USB Hosting.. (It was a bit of a toss up between the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Neo.. the price of the Neo won out in the end)
I will get the Neo in a couple of days (its been ordered and payed for)
Now.. I have screwed with my mini so much (it had features missing that I really needed... Dual touch, Flash Video, Apps to SD, Froyo then Gingerbread, Clockwork recovery, Wifi tethering etc) so it needed to be rooted and hacked.. but what features are really missing off the neo? (its already running gingerbread)
Do I need to modify it? or is it actually quite good out of the box?
Does rooting, unlocking the bootloader and loading custom Kernel give me any real benefits (apart from CPU overclocking?)
(as a new member of the Neo Forum.. moving over from the mini I'm asking for your advice)
Any thoughts??
Cheers
Kiwi
Till now I didn't see the reason for unlocking the boot loader. Just rooted the phone to get the clock sync to work. Without rooting, clock setting can be down to minute only - OS bypass any time difference less than 30s. Rooted OS permits to set the clock correct.
That's the only real reason for me to root the phone. Other than that were just for fun.
Out of the box it is quite good, except for the bloatware and useless shortcuts in the app drawer. Get your phone rooted and delete the bloatware (it has 2 app screens of 16 apps full of bloatware). Also move some apps to the system app partition, because the app memory is not so big (a lot bigger than the E10's, but still too small).
Unlocking the bootloader can be useful, but it's not necessary for most mods. Fact is that we can relock the bootloader easily. The only disadvantage from unlocking the bootloader is that DRM won't work after unlocking, so the music like button in the stock music player (which I never use) and TrackID won't work, even after relocking. Still, you can use Shazam instead of TrackID.
I wasn't able to root my Neo for 2 months, but it wasn't that bad. Especially after the latest update, you don't need root because screenshot making is native. I only experienced that I filled the app memory very fast.

If you install some apps, they install that location data/app. This partitions size is not the biggestone. If you have root you can easly remove bloatware and move the most needed apps to system/app partitions. Beacause system/app partitions have about 150+ Mb free space after you delete bloatware. Use search and you find in arc forum a thread wher is complete list app what you can delete and remove

Holy Crap!! I forgot all about the bloatware!! Its been so long since I actually used a Stock setup on my mini I forgot about the bloatware component!! eeeek! well, that's probably the biggest plus for rooting! (that and moving some apps to System, eg.. root explorer etc..)
Thanks guys! will be rooting as soon as she gets out of the box!

With doomlord kernel is overcloking "insane"
Stock 1Ghz
Doomlord kernel 1,9Ghz
I use 1,4Ghz smartassV2 and its da bestone. I even downgrade my 2.3.4 back to 2.3.3 because new kernel relase is "nobody know"
And battery....da best
And YES rooting is strongly RECOMENDED but ALWAYS your desicion
Regards!
Taavi
I would recommend rooting your neo for the following reasons.
a) removing bloatware
b) overclocking (however in 2.3.4 this is not possible until doomkernel is updated, but still.)
c) you can do quite a few mods that require root that are pretty cool with the phone.
enjoy using your neo
Hey there. I got a Xperia Sola recently and am loving it so far. Getting this has been my switch from IOS to Android and so i'm a little unsure on how to do things, I need a bit of help with something.
Going over to android I was rather excited for some of the larger, more intensive apps that my old iPhone3g couldn't run so I bought myself a nice big 32gb sdcard to put all these apps on. Today I bought NFS Most Wanted, installed the downloader thing from the play store and set it running. When I came back later, I was sad to find that rather than installing to the nice spacious 32gb external card, it had downloaded 2gb of files into the Internal Storage and half filled it. How can I move these files to their intended place on the external card, and how can I make future large downloads go onto the external card as well? The only options I can see in the settings menu are Move to Phone or Move to Internal Storage/SD.
Thanks in advance ^_^
Try these

Thanks, but is there no way to do it without rooting? All of the rooting methods I've been able to find for the Sola (I think the one by Bin4ry is a popular one or something?) use the restore and backup thing and that refuses to work for some reason, just gives me an error message every time I try so I haven't been able to root the phone yet.
Edit I think i've figured rooting out. What does the "set abd in path" thing mean in that first link you gave me?

Try this if you are on ICS
Settings> Apps> Downloaded/ALL > NFS Most Wanted
Tap open it. Scroll down and there would be a button reading move to phone! Click it and see if that works. If It copies the file from internal storage to the phone's user available storage then download any market app like app2sd to further transfer the game files to your ext card.
I don't know whether it'll work or not. Still give it a shot!
Happy to help!
I am thinking of installing an alternate ROM called Honamify which is based on Android 4.4 CyanogenMod posted in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2602727
The problem is that I am totally confused after reading about the whole process. I need some guidance from experienced users/developers on how to go about this.
Here are some facts :
- The phone is Sony Ericsson Live With Walkman updated to the last official Ice Cream Sandwich build.
- It has been rooted with eRoot toolkit and most of the applications have been linked to a 2nd ext2 partition on SD card. Some applications like Facebook which were system applications have been converted to user applications and also have been linked to SD card using Link2SD. All updates to system applications have been integrated into system storage.
- The phone bootloader is currently locked.
Here are my questions :
1. Is it possible to take a complete backup of the phone in its present state so that if whatever is done later is unsuccessful it can be restored back to the present state?
2. I understand that it is necessary to unlock the bootloader before installing another ROM. But doing so may cause loss of data and DRM and other features according to Sony. And some posts mention taking a backup of TA partition before unlocking. What is that and how to do it?
3. Some tools show that the phone already has some sort of recovery installed but some others say no. Does this phone come with some factory installed recovery? If not how to install one? Clockworkmod?
4. Will it be possible to have a multiboot setup so that I can select whether to boot the stock or custom ROM?
5. Can we live without the Google applications? Or can we selectively install only some of the Google applications?

1 Yeah. If you have enabled cwm recovery option on your phone. You can just take a backup your whole phone(Of Course excluding the memory card) from the backup and restore menu and restore it later.
2 No data will go if unlock properly. Drm might go if you do it the official way. Chill just remove your sd card before unlocking and remember to backup your wahtsapp chats and sms and contacts(use google sync for contacts) You can reinstall everything again.
3 No. You have to install one. Clockworkmod, ie cwm,Once you unlocked your phone you can just flash custom kernels that come with preinstalled recovery menus
4 Its possible. But its not worth doing it on a 2011 device. Trust me . Youll have to do **** with the sd card as the system doesnt have enough space to hold more than one rom plus we dont really have dualboot kernels.
5 Go to google search and type yourzgapps and click the first link. Even 4.4 gapps are there in the download link its just not mentioned in the thread. Theyre very lite only with essential google apps. Its like only a 14mb download. And yeah you cant live without google apps especially the playstore?
Thanks yash.
How to flash a custom kernel? Using Flashtool software on Windows?
Yeah anytime.
Yes use flash tool. Drivers dont work on windows 8.1 but. So it'll be sad if youre on it

No I have Windows XP on the desktop and 7 on laptop. Both have multiple versions of PCLinuxOS. But I suppose Linux usage here would entail command line.
I suppose if I sit down and do it once I would become confident.
wait for next Honamify update
I've setup Honamify v2 on my live with Walkman. It's good, but look like it has some issue with "google play" compatibility check
For example, My phone can easy install Candy Crush Saga with brand Sony ICS Rom or LegacyXperia (the one Honamify base on).
But in Honamify v2, Google Play said my device don't support.
If you fan of Games. Think twice before install. Or you need to know how to edit buid.prop to make your device compatiblity (not easy with newbie like me)
Ok. Google Play compatibility is critical. Good to know beforehand.
What about other basic functions such as Bluetooth, WiFi, camera etc? Do they work well? Battery life?
pros: battery life, smoothness, wifi strength
It has better battery life then ICS base
Much smoothness then ICS other base Honamify ROM
The corlor in launcher is not real and beautiful like the sony ICS base.
WIFI is stronger with more access point discover in range.
Camera is OK but not much better than cybershot
Look like author has some fix, since link to part 1 has been remove.
Let's wait
for game that not pass compatibility device checking of Google play. I google apk file to download and install. It work. A bit compilicated and hard to update. But at least it ok to play.
Worth for the smooth and GUI of thís ROM.
or you can try to install my newly release rom.. as for the moments it's for LWW only but will support other mdpi's soon..just click my signature
hey why throw in another ROM and what is it??? I have an arc I'm happy for it, but it is slow and constantlysays threre is no space and I can not get rid of all the pre-installed apps I do not use. I read there was one that had rooted her and put a samsung menu on it is that a good idea
I do not know anything about this, but dare roote my phone with expert help and guide in what and why or just with telling me what I shall be looking for. so anyone who is fresh to explain me things.
my apps are allready installed on my sd card. except the preinstalled.
I hope someone will be nice to enlighten me in what is what and why Its a good idae to get a program that can make the phone believe my external ceard is the internal and what it means to root a phone.
