I tried doing the data wipe but its not doing anything at. I tried to get it to connected to my computer but its not working. So Please help somebody.
Wrong forum, post this in general as this has nothing to do w/ Android development. You will also need to DETAIL exactly what you did to get to this point, or no one can help you (your above explanation is very vague). See ya in the other forum
Return it. You're just too stupid to have nice things.
Also, I'd put money on a factory reset fixing it. From now on, don't do things unless you understand what you're actually doing. Not just with your phone but life in general.

OP, as stated above you did post in the wrong section. You need to post this in general with a full detail of what you did to your phone. I'm sure someone can help you out. I also noticed it was your 1st post on XDA. Welcome, and don't let punks like this Guy leave a bad taste in your mouth.

As everyone has said before me, you will need to provide a bit more info.
However, my best guess is that you transfered over files from another phone to try and get rid of the current ROM that is on the phone. You not knowing how these things function, you assumed that swapping files would work just fine. As you found out, it doesn't work like that.
You will need to put your phone into "download mode" but holding vol up + vol down and then press the power button. You will do this while the phone is off.
Using the Odin software on your Windows PC you will need to follow this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728698
FOLLOW IT WORD FOR WORD and you should be alright.
Its just as easy to ask a mod to move this as to reply...
If you are rooted with clockwork recovery use the nannies flash from jac... If you are not rooted use the method from ms_guru, then root, then use jacs method.. Both of these can be found in the first post, "read before posting, informative links"

You have however been rude to community members. Don't think the community is all developers. Its not. Not everyone starts reading rules and manuals and shunning someone who might be helpful or at least better informed later is not what any community stands for. Like yourself I usually start ten steps ahead of everyone else. So I spend that time helping people catch up, not by insulting them.

Hello,
I am rather new at all this stuff, but after searching for dfferent tutorials, I am trying to install ClockWorkMod Recovery on my ATT Galaxy S 2 based on the instructions below:

The problem I am having is on
Step 5. Untar codeworkx's kernel into the Heimdall directory.
When I do this, it gives me an error saying the firmware.xml is missing from the package.,
I was wondering if anyone knew the reason and a work aaround.
Thank you

To Coreym and others who thought this thread should be closed due to the "have been covered in Sticky" and Mod Red.
Firstly, I personally do not think this question has been covered in Sticky.
The OP asking about how to install CwM Recovery onto his phone retaining stock kernels, NOT custom kernel. Yes, I did ask the question and creepy has provided answer b4. Yes, ramos did ask the same question and got the answer, I'm sure there were one or two more in the room. Yes, it has been answered but NOT covered in the Sticky.
Secondly, I don't believe the OP should get any flame because he did do the search and did his homework, he just ran into some errors, that's why he asked for help. This is way different than others who not even do homework, haven't even tried on their system, but just asked for direction.
I believe in this case, the OP did do his best and asked for help, that's why I provided a suggestion to him, rather than flame.

I hope the OP or you don't take it that way.
Also maybe I read it wrong but it looks like he's trying to install CWM using codeworkx kernel.. which is a custom kernel, not stock. Even the instructions in the link he provided go back to installing a custom kernel.
Okay I just went back and don't see ANYWHERE where the OP is trying to install CWM while retaining stock kernel.. I guess I must be blind

I'm at my wits end. I've been using this method: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II_(AT&T):_Full_Update_Guide
I can not get recovery to work. The menu displays and when I pick a item from the menu I just get the top-hat screen and nothing. It can't find the sig.
I have searched this forum extensively..but I haven't found the answer.
I've put CM on my N1, Att Inspire and my short lived Skyrocket without any problems. But this time I am stumped, I can't get recovery to work.
I rooted the SGII using the Odin One Click..worked great.
And yes, I've checked: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1511838

I think thats in the binary yellow triangle thread or the other CWM thread... both linked from the sticky.
Red5 whats the deal with this thread? I was under the impression that this was already covered. After getting my post quoted and being told that the OP was trying to install CWM with his existing kernel, I went back and read the OP and followed his link. It seems to me that he is just trying to install CWM like we all have, using codeworkx kernel and not his existing kernel.
If that is the case, I guess I don't know why this thread hasn't been closed. Seems a little confusing to me (and probably others) as to what threads are allowed to stay and which ones aren't ... if we are talking about multiple threads with the same topic (installing CWM)..?
Not questioning your authority, just would like a little clarification.

Well, there was a decent conversation going on, until someone had to crap on it. Threads that just ask "how to install this?"are shut down because 99% is covered in the stickys or are linked in the stickys.
This thread had a decent conversation and I was waiting to make sure the user got the info he needed and was successful. Its called helping out. Once that takes place, the thread can be closed because there is no longer any need for any more discussion.
Its not beneficial to just automatically close every thread that pops up in the General or Q&A section. Even Devs started out as noobs at one point, so we need to be somewhat courteous in the offchance that the next noob might turn out to be a great dev in the future. The OP didnt seem like your ordinary noob that just wanted to be spoonfed, so I gave him the benefit of a doubt and left this open.

There was no sarcasm, that was the reason why. I gave you an honest answer. I dont think every thread should be closed and as I said, this thread had a decent conversation in it. With that, I took a look at the sticky and realized that I can modify it to better point out the issue that the OP had. Had I just closed the thread I never would have stumbled onto that.
Again, there was no sarcasm in my comment. I just wanted to help out a newer member and left this open for him.
lol.. you can honestly say that you weren't being sarcastic when you told me "its called helping out"
..normally anytime you put "it's called.." in front of ANYTHING other than a question asking what something is, it's being sarcastic.. just sayin.

Honestly, you would have received better input if you put the question in the Q&A section. People bash each other for posting in the wrong sections. I must say, I think you jumped the gun a little by ordering a new device. You didn't even wait 24 hours. When I had my S3, I accidentally formatted the wrong partition while trying to get data back after compiling MIUI based off another phone, it took 3 days to figure out how to get it back (Thanks garwynn and crew). A simple google search for "How to install stock rom on Verizon note 2" returned this on the first page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207. The stickies in development are one of the first places you should look for anything rom related.

I've been looking everywhere and just need some direction on where to find a stock Rom for the HTC one for at&t version. Also I want to know if my phone will still be rooted or not afterwards? I know it normally has to be a rooted Rom but that surely wouldn't get rid of root just because I flash a stock Rom? And is flashing it essentially having stock or is there a way I can go completely stock and it not even have access to bootloader and can anymore? Thanks in advance for any help I'm still not very good at this.

Be prepared to get smart ass comments like the one above mine. If you flash a stock Att ROM you will still be rooted. You can find one in the android development section. In order to get rid of custom recovery you would need to run the Att ruu. You first have to relock your boot loader. There are several informative videos on you tube. Just do a Google search for Att ruu for HTC one.

I don't know if it was smartass (it definitely wasn't that smart)...but it was rude.
A person asked a question...and a second person not only did not answer it but tried to shame him/her by saying: "you should look in the right place".
What's up with that??
Why are some of the older members on these forums (some with thousands of posts) so hostile to newbies??

How do you know this person didn't post in the international section originally and was moved here by a mod? So don't make assumptions like that because I've seen it happens many times. And most of us aren't mean, we just don't feel the need to do all the legwork for said noobies. That gets no one anywhere if people can't figure these things out by themselves they should not be modifying their expensive devices. Not trying to be mean, but we do not want people bricking their phones here.

We don't make anyone feel stupid. If anything they make themselves look stupid especially when the answer they're looking for is right in front of them but they just feel like someone should send them a link because they're entitled to it.

This is exactly why I hate looking for answers on forums. If people would help out and actually provide some helpful answers then people would be able to find the right solution when searching. I can't tell you how many threads and posts I've had to go through because of spiteful responses.
I understand my reply doesn't help the OP, but I just had to say something.

Yeah...I have only been posting for a day but I've been reading these forums for a while and I've noticed a certain level of hostility especially towards newbies...
I asked a simple question yesterday (as my first post) and the very first response was a smartass remark...I wasn't even surprised.
There is a lot of nerd rage around these forums I suppose, and been an electrical engineer I am used to dealing with that...but still, I thought this was supposed to be a "community".it'd be funny if everytime one of my neighbors asked me a question about how to do something, I answered like that.
And by funny I mean, I'd be an asshole for answering like that.

First of all... why does it matter if a person posted somewhere else?
Secondly, there is no need to be hostile or defensive...ever.
Third, no one is asking anyone any work...some people are just asking simple questions about how to from A to B.
Fourth, if a person asks a question, and a second person doesn't know the answer then they shouldn't answer. And if their intent is to point in the right direction they could just say:
Hey, check this forum out and here is a link... no need for smartass remarks.

Because if they post in the international section they wouldn't have much help there as most people with the at&t version post here where there is also an ruu.
Second, there's only a few here that may be hostile. Telling people to search is not hostile.
Third, why should we spell it out for someone again if by taking a look around before posting will answer their questions?
Fourth, that's what most people do, except they don't always post links because they shouldn't have to. Most people I see tell the person with the problem exactly where to find the answer and linking to it isn't necessary. Do some people do it? Sure, but it shouldn't be necessary.

I understand there are some stupid questions asked on XDA but overall the attitude is hostility. It's been that way since I started rooting/flashing 4 years ago. XDA is very intimidating as a noobie. You have to learn lingo/terms and even as a half way experienced flasher I still read read read and sometimes am unclear on some things. There are a lot of helpful people on here and the devs are amazing but sometimes honest questions get ripped.

Telling people to search may not be hostile but is douchie...If the person is in these forums is because they are searching. If I know the answer to a question that someone asks, I have two options, I can either choose to answer it or choose not to answer it. If I choose to not answer it then I should not type a smartass remark.
So here is a simple suggestion for some of the most hostile older members of these forums...
If you don't feel like you should answer a person's questions then don't ****ing answer the question...Why spend the extra effort to try to be a smartass??
---------- Post added at 11:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:18 AM ----------
By the way Nick...
You have not been hostile to me...just to be clear...
Which baffles me that you are defending some of the a-holes who are.
I agree people shouldn't be aholes but I'm just trying to explain why the attitude around here is the way it is, I started as a noob once (back in the captivate days) the first thing I did when I tried to root that thing was mess it up, and I was able to fix it by myself without asking for the easy way out. Most people expect everyone who joins to do that so that's why people say "search before posting" and if you still can't find the answer then no one will be hostile in any way and will most likely answer your question politely. That's all, I understand it's intimidating but we just encourage people to problem solve by themselves first and ask questions after

This is kind of my point though...
No need to do that. When I know the answer to a question I either choose to answer it or not answer it... To say "hey, go search search"...is rude.
What makes you think that person wasn't searching? I can tell you if they found these forums is because they are searching...and perhaps they could not find the answer.

Usually you can tell, especially with people that make new threads like" how do i return to stock?" those kinds of things make it obvious that the person didn't look at all. Most of the time I will point them in the right direction and hope they can figure it out on their own, otherwise they shouldn't root/mod their phones. That's all.

The problem is that there are so many threads with misinformation and you never know which method to follow since there aren't many "official" threads in how to do something. Most of the time I search and read various methods and then will usually have to go with the mostly used method.
What I describe above is what is wrong with the internet in general.. not just xda.
You never know who knows what and when you find an answer your hoping it's right.. but I've been burned before where you follow someones suggestion, but then 20 minutes later, someone with more experience gives the right solution.

few quick questions
I flashed the Google Edition ROM earlier today and I have a couple of quick questions about the Google Edition ROM...
Right now my home screens are set to 4x4 arrays and the # of icons on the dock is also limited. Is there anyway to change this while using the stock launcher? I have the Nova launcher installed now, but I was wondering if there was any level of customization that could be done on the stock launcher?
Also the stock launcher is not allowing me to re-size widgets and such...is that a by product of this "Google Edition" using the Sense framework?
Lastly is the Trebuchet launcher on CM any better when it comes to customization? And anyone who has tried both and has an opinion one way or the other?
I'll greatly appreciate the help.
Flashed the CM10.1 June 28 nightly played with it for almost a day...liked it a lot but will stick to the Google Edition ROM for the time being...mostly based on Stability (and silly as it may sound the Beats Optimization)
Will probably switch to CM 10.1 once it reaches Release Candidate status or Stable version.
Great job so far...I really really like where CM is heading.
I have to agree with all of you in one way or another. When a person asks for help trying to locate information about their device. it really is not hard to either answer with a proper response of, Did you search for your info? Where did you look? And there certainly is no problem with going, this is what your looking for, hope i helped. (link)
As a senior member myself, i still have had times where i asked for some assistance because i could not find exactly what i was looking for, I have read, and searched, and searched, and read. and when i have asked questions... i have gotten one of two responses, here is what you are looking for, hope i helped you out. And the other being, you are not entitled to any help, go search, if you dont have time to search, you shouldn't be in the forums or modifying your device. also.. you must not mod alot of devices if you have to ask that question, you surely don't know what you are doing.
People here can be rude. if a person doesn't want to help, here is the thought.. you are entitled to keep your mouth shut instead of be a smart ass and let someone who is willing and patient to help the newbie understand what they are doing and help guide them. this is how beginners turn into our next gen of devs. and certain people acting like A**es makes them not want to be part of this community. I have gotten rid of certain devices because i couldnt tolerate the rude ignorant remarks in those device communities. it is also another reason that i dont do dev work anymore and dont post as much as i used to. People are rude.
i feel entitled to ask a question in hopes of an answer that may help me. you are entiled to keep your mouth shut if you plan on being rude in regards to said question.
to my last statement..... you have a better chance at scratching a bobcats ass, than coming up to me and talking to me in that sweet sister ass voice.
help the person or not. but at least have some dignity not to be an a**hole!!
So I know XDA is full of answers to this one, but it seems everyone either has some snarky comment like, "they won't check' or whatever. There are also some ok answers and tuts but some of it's confusing and a lot of the threads go off topic. So i'd like to ask, how do i get my phone back to stock? i have to mail my device back in for a warranty exchange as the speakers and camera stopped working suddenly.
My device is stock rooted, odex rom w/ TWRP. unlocked bootloader. Super CID and S-off. Tampered message gone in boot loader. My laptop runs Windows 8, which I'm having an issue getting the HTC manager to stay open for some reason, even after an uninstall/ reinstall of the manager and drivers. The drivers themselves seemed to have installed fine as my device is recognized as "my HTC" though when in fastboot, my comp will tell me the device is unrecognized. Using the stock usb plug that came with my phone and I've plugged in to both usb 3.0 and 2.0 ports. And yes, I do have ADB in the root of my computer, though I'm wondering if i need a different type of ADB since this is the one i used with windows 7 a while back..or does it matter?
I'd like to get things back to stock as much as possible and would be very appreciative. Thanks!
You complain about the snarky comments people make yet you make a thread on a subject that has been beaten to death and has a buttload of snarky comments every time because of it. Just read and you'll find your answer, it's not too hard

Really? Really bro? This is the dang troubleshooting section of the frigging thread, meant for asking questions like this, and ya gotta be a ****? Go die in a fire. You just reaffirmed my reason for not coming to this forum much. Rude, nasty people like you. Thanks so much.

Wow dude way to take what someone says on a forum way too far. I was in no way rude or nasty or a ****. You asked for that kind of response when you asked this question. Just because this is the troubleshooting section doesn't mean you shouldn't do your research before posting about a topic that's been beaten to death.
P. S. It's hypocritical to call someone rude and nasty and then tell them to die in a fire.

Maybe it would do you some justice to NOT go the route that I'd already forsaw. You were snarky and you response in no way solves a problem that I sat down for 3 hours trying to troubleshoot on an operating system I'm still learning since i just got comp last week. And maybe if you actually understood reading comprehension, you'd have seen that I'd obviously done my research, otherwise I wouldn't have made the conclusions I'd made in my OP. So yeah, I'm pretty pissed.

You could not possibly have researched for 3 hours and still had the need to post instead of doing what said research told you to do. It shouldn't have taken longer than 5 minutes to find your solution. Nothing I said was snarky you got the response you deserved and I don't care how pissed you are personal attacks are not allowed here.

Ok, whatever you say. i didn't do the leg work and i couldn't fin the straight forward answers I needed. It' cool. Someone was actually decent enough to point me in the right direction and not be rude about it.
Oh and for the record, what I really needed to know was how to go back to S-on and change the CID back to stock. I still have my files for the latter and i have an idea of what to do, but I'd rather not go testing crap out on a phone i'm trying to return.

Thanks for the quick reply. Um..I just ran into an issue and i hope it isn't a big one. First, the RUU won't run. And error pops up saying "make sure you have finished any previous setup and try again". I DLed this RUU straight from HTC.
Second, i'm in bootloader, tried to do a full reboot and instead it boots back into bootloader. Now on the top, the tampered had returned, as I used CMD to make it go away, and in pink is also a "security warning". The phone won't boot into anything else. The phone is locked. I got S-on with Revone, and i used CMD to write stock CID, which I rebooted each time to make sure nothing messed up.
Edit: Nevermind, after re downloading the RUU, I got it working properly and things smoothed out. Thank you again.

Don't exaggerate. I post that when it's necessary to post that. When help is deserved I more than gladly help but someone asking how to get back to stock does not necessitate a thread being made, hence my response.
