They really are getting out of hand with this already. Granted they have the best service by far, especially for me coming from Sprint, who had no 4g at all here, but come on already. Opinions seem to indicate that this is a result of people paying late, and Verizon is trying to force them to enroll in autopay, but come on. If someone's more than a day or two late, turn their phone off. Don't punish everyone for the actions of a few.

I have never been late, my first year I didn't want to be late because I didn't want to be screwed and lose my deposit, lol.
I heard this a few days ago. It really seems crazy to me, but this decision was far above my pay grade. I have auto payment set up so it doesn't matter to me, but still seems a bit much. One thing I did see though, and we will see if it is true when this rolls out, but if you have auto payment you can pay early with a different payment method and it will not take out of the account you have set up for automatic payment or charge the fee. Again, we will see if it really is that way once this rolls out.
Makes a lot of sense, the one method that must cost Verizon the most manpower to process, that's the free method. I understand that they have to make money, but it's far less insulting to just jack up the bill by 2 dollars and say "look, we need more revenue". Rather than say "hey, the two ways that we've been trying to encourage you to pay for the last few years is now going to cost you unless you give us unrestricted access to your credit card or bank accounts, but hey that really inconvenient and wasteful method is still free". Right, so when there's a billing error or some other problem with charges, they can take the money regardless and then you can fight with them to get it back if you're lucky. No thanks.
Most business charge a fee to pay online or over phone, nothing new. Use snail mail or online banking and save yourself the fee. They are only charging if you pay on their site or use phone or my Verizon.

online is the way to go, I have paid VZ that way for a couple years now.
I don't have it pay automatically, as I dont totally trust VZ to always get the bill right and I want to check it first, but it takes about 20 seconds to pay the bill online when it comes.

Yeah, everyone who said online banking rocks tha house is right. I can pay my 17 or so different bills in about 3 minutes. It used to take an hour and a half at least when I mailed them. Plus I'm saving loads of paper which always makes me feel good.

Online bill pay is the way to go with anything. Its free, normally done electronically for fast and on time processing, easy payment tracking on One secure site, proof payment was made on a third party system and last but not least can also set as automatic payments using your banks system.

I'm filling a complaint because of this. I get paid once a month, one day before my bill is due. If they force this autodraft restriction it will cause me to overdraft my account as most autopay scenarios take the money out 3-5 days before the bill is due. I've already had Verizon move my billing date up once, I doubt they will do it again. This is just wrong of them.

So here is the deal, I just want everyone to know this because I see it a lot! You have more than 30 days to return your phone, well it works out that way! This is the way it works, and you can verify this with Sprint:
You can return your phone on the 29th day and get the exact same phone, or whatever one you want, you can do this 3 times total! ( I want to clarify this, when you get your phone is 1 time, first exchange is second time, and final exchange would be third time.)
So you can try out the Photon for 30 days, exchange it for the exact same one, or something different? Say you want to try out the SGS2, ok so your 29th day just happens to fall a few days after it releases. Cool, take your Photon in, tell them your not sure if you like it or not, but your wanting to try out the SGS2. Try that one out for 29 days and hey if you like it, keep it or exhange it out for a new one maybe you might have dropped it. Or hey you do like the Photon better, well there you go, get a brand new Photon and welcome back! That would be your last exchange, but it reset your 30 days!
This is real, this is not a scam this can be verified by Sprint, it does help getting a cool guy at the Sprint store, but even so, they have to do it, period!
I just want people to know this, because maybe you do want to give the next best thing a try, so go ahead, get the phone you WANT, not the one your stuck with!
I did this with the Evo3d so I could wait for the Photon release. I know it works first hand, and I have called Sprint just to verify that it works for EVERYONE!
Hope this helps some of you guys and is not too confusing!

Two things I would like to ask, 1)Does 29+29+29=90 2) Should/will be there a $35 restocking fee every time an exchange is done?

There was not a restocking fee for me at anytime. Unless the Sprint rep is a *oo**(not nice guy) then I wouldn't think there would be. Like I said, helps if you friendly up with the Sprint rep of your choice.

Not to rain on your parade here, but in many stores, such my current and all previous retailer chains I've worked for, we limit you to one buyer's remorse swap. It's the fault of the customer for not researching more indepth before purchasing a device, but we understand mistakes happen. As such, you may swap models one time within your first 30 day window. Malfunctioning devices we will swap into the same model for, but that's it. You can go extending your 30 day's all you want, but it is up to the retailer, not Sprint, on how we handle the sale of our merchandise. We are only required to give you one buyer's remorse swap. It is way too costly for our companies to go RMA'ing two-three phones per customer just because you feel like it.
As such, this is not a guide, this is just a way to manipulate the system and piss off sales reps, likely resulting in you not getting service at the store you do this to. No one likes a tool.

It doesn't matter what YOU and your other reps do, by Sprints law, it is completely doable and if a customer requests it, it has to be done. Whether or not you're that (not so nice guy) that we have to go above and beyond is up to you. Like I said, we avoid people like you and talk to the nice reps.
Obviously I don't mean just go in there looking for this, I just meant if you were indecisive about a couple of phones, this is a way you could give them both a try. It's not that I want every Tom, **** and Harry to start doing this every time they upgrade, I just wanted to make people aware of Sprints rules.
Edit: Also, this is where I would make sure I had a rep that would do this for me before I even bought from your store. There are ways to cover your ass.

I would hope this is what you would do, this is not at all how I meant it. I am not trying to have people go piss off reps, once again I am just giving information on the laws and limits of Sprint. I am not condoning a mass phone return from all of Sprints customers.
For instance, if I had just got my Photon, and then the SGS2 came out and I wanted to give that one a fair shot, this is something I would use that for, as I thought I explained that quite well. My bad.

I would like to reiterate that M&P specifically states that 30 day exchange/returns go off the inital purchase/activation date. Any corporate store will be able to search this in RSP and find the information.
If you visit an authorized dealer you may find some different results.

"Nice reps" huh? Funny enough that I've been recognized at the district level every month for top customer satisfaction scores on both phone repair and sales. I just don't let people like you walk all over reps and manipulate the system, which forces Sprint to tighten their reins and make it more difficult on the honest customers. You can't argue policy with someone who has to enforce it daily, resetting your 30 days is a manipulation of an extended courtesy option given originally only by retention to solve major customer satisfaction issues. It's not for every joe-schmo to take advantage of.

You can spout off at me as much as you want bro, the fact is, is it's completely legal. Be mad, go cry to your manager I don't care, the guy I go through at Sprint doesn't have one bit of a problem with it. It's completely legal.
And guess what else, because the guy at my Sprint store did this, I have brought him over 60 people from competitors. Just think, if you weren't so anal, you might have got someone just as bad as me that walks all over reps and gives them as much commission as he could ever get from just one terrible guy like me.
Who gets to vote for you? I think they were rigged! Lol Chill dude, it's not a bad thing. You don't even know me, I bet we'd get along just fine, and I bet you would have hooked me up the same way if it was your store. You know why? Cuz we both have this in common! This being xda.

Whats wrong with a paying customer trying out the merchandise before he commits to such a large purchase? How can we research a product that just came out and truly get an unbiased opinion? Buyers remorse or not, these manufactures always tell you the pro's to their products and never the cons. I've gone through 3 phones to finally get the one that works good for me. I'm not manipulating the system, just trying to exercise my right as a consumer. A small price to pay for a multi-billion dollar company that should adopt a "spare no expense" type mentality against this economy and its competitors.

That's all fine and well if you want to do your business at corporate, but many of us aren't Sprint for the most part. We sell and represent Sprint, sure, but that's it. Our company assets are extremely finite and exchanging massive amounts of product for customers would not only cost us a substantial amount but it would also risk us losing our right to sell Sprint. Sprint and the manufacturers impose a set maximum number of product that we may return to them via RMA, and every exchange results in an RMA. This number is surprisingly small, and we get charged back for every item that we have to return. Justify your exchanges as you will, but I hold nothing against we third party retailers for denying you anything beyond one exchange. If we order 50 phones in a shipment, and 10 customers exchange their phone twice under buyer's remorse, that's 20 phones we're sending back, 10 sold, and 20 remaining for other customers. So out of 50 phones we purchased, we're only getting paid for 30 of them.

I see what you mean there, but it was that third party store that should have read the fine print pertaining to sprints rules to the customer. So next time order more phones! Jk. But I mean said store should know about how Sprint works, shouldn't they?
And by the way the one I go to is a third party store.

This is why I've explained and as [email protected] has said, the 30 day reset isn't a policy. It's a customer courtesy option. Your contract and our M&P both state that the customer has a 30 day satisfaction guarantee in which they may exchange under buyer's remorse or for manufacturer's defects. Being third party we do a lot of things to bend rules for customers but we avoid the ones that can put us out of business. Sprint doesn't like to pay any of us as it is, we all work for minimum wage at my store and average $400 commission per month with no overtime and no holiday pay. I'd say the amount we do for customers versus what corporate reps do, especially considering the difference in pay (our average W2's are about 15,000/year after taxes, corporate sales get roughly 35,000/year after taxes) is pretty dramatic. You can't blame us for protecting our companies.

I don't mean to sound stupid, but when you say 3rd party store, do you mean like a Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc? I totally understand how this would hurt you, on the other hand I also agree that if Sprint has this, they do. Is it possible that if a customer came into your store (having already exchanged once) that you could redirect them to a corporate Sprint store? I'm not sure how it works. I know I originally bought the Photon at a Sprint store, took it back (it started having probs right after the 1st OTA), the db at the store charged me the $35 restock fee, didn't even bother to turn my old phone back on (I had to call in and have it reactivated), and I was gonna wait and get the GS II, but after the announcement I got another Photon (this time from BB, and saved $100 in the process).

This reminds me. When I first got Sprint it was with a SERO account. I ordered a phone (Mogul) and they accidently sent me 2 but only charged me for one. I called Sprint and they had no idea what was going on but told me to send one back. So I sent one back. The next month I realized they put a $200 credit on my account. I called them back and told them what happened and even explained my theory about them refunding me for the phone I returned. The CSR assured me they would fix it. They never did. SERO was about $30/month so I ended up with like half a yr of free services. I'm still with Sprint and SERO.

I was living there for like a year and a half. I was the sucker that time.
Another time I got fired from Wells Fargo so the manager made a credit(bank lingo) and paid for the hours of that pay period. About a week later, I get a direct deposit for the same amount from them. Then I closed my account. Suckers.
just curious. there hasn't been a thread which is surprising, but the rumor is all over the net about verizon charging 30 dollars just to upgrade a new phone now.
they used to give us 100 off..then 50 off...then 30 off..now we have to pay 30 just to get a new phone.
it's quite ridiculous, IMO. i just called and complained, told them that i most likely know more than the people teaching these 'workshops' and that i feel i shouldn't have to pay for something i'm NEVER going to use. said that come the end of my contract in 2013, i'll have to seriously reconsider whether or not to stay with verizon. also noted that it's ridiculous because verizon's 4g phones are $300, whereas other carriers are from 100 to 200. noted how my rezound was 300, then a few months later was 200, then 100, then 50 for a time. i told him it's ridiculous how they change their pricings constantly, and i felt like i got screwed (not true at all cuz it was totally worth every penny lol but i figured i'd throw it out there)
Whatdya mean, paying for the privilege of being locked into a two-year contract totally makes sense.
They wanted to charge my brother $20 to upgrade at the 2yr contract phone price a month before he was eligible. Is it that they are thinking of upping that fee? It would be asinine to charge a fee to customer buying into new technology.

Are you complaining as a consumer or a 3rd party retailer...

Screw it, I'll just buy one off-contract from Amazon or somewhere else, pay full retail. When I do, I'll call them and tell them why.

that $20 is the annual upgrade fee. they already charged that when you're 1 year into your contract, and they'll let you do an early upgrade..so they tack 20 bucks on. however, those are dunzo, so any that are left, just like the NE2, are now done once you use it.

as a customer. called from my own phone on my own time.
Whoever came up with the mandatory $30 "upgrade" fee should seek new employment at car manufacturers.
Example: "Trade in your old Chevy for a brand new 2012 model.... MSRP does not include taxes/license fees/
delivery charge or the $300 car upgrade fee!!!"
haha i know, right? it's getting bad. i strongly suggest you all call to complain about it.
the guy said it will be notated in my account, and even he felt it was ridiculous. then after, they call you back with an automated survey that my verizon acct manager (for my store) said they DO listen to when you can do the part where you speak about what you liked when you called customer service..in that part, you havel ike only 30 seconds, so i stated that i was disgusted with the 30 dollar upgrade fee, and hten it cut me off lol so i suggest you all do the same

Whaaaa? So no more early upgrades????????
That's what verizon calls a survey. Its not VZW corporate listening to those. That specific Rep you talked to; their supervisor has to listen to that and use it for coaching if possible. It has absolutely no influence on VZWs decision making, unfortunately.

yeah, i'm sure that's the case. either way, my account manager said SOMEONE def listens to it, so when there's enough people complaining and whatnot, there might be something done.
REMEMBER people, we all got them to drop that bull**** 2 dollar charge to PAY the bill online! if we keep this up, maybe we can help get this changed. i doubt it will ever be free to upgrade again, since every other damn provider charges, but 30 is a rip.

I figure I'll be ahead. I informed them of the new $50 "Customer Inconvenience Fee" I'm implementing, which is what I'm going to charge them every time the 4G service I'm paying for, breaks.
^ This ha ha.
I think I'm far too laid back, because I just can't bring myself the get all fired up right now.
Although it being 7 am and I haven't gone to bed yet may have something to do with that...

This has nothing to do with early upgrades. It's just a $30 fee whenever activating a NEW phone. Doesn't matter even if you buy it off contract.

"Early upgraders who pay the full price of a new phone would not be impacted"
yeah lol i was just gonna quote that, thanks monkey.
this only applies if you buy a phone FROM VERIZON on an upgrade.
now, there was a rumor saying if you bought it online from anywhere else, you may not be charged this fee, and if you even buy from their website, you may not be charged. i don't like to buy into rumors, though.
Never read up on the fee but that's retarded.

So wait let me get this straight, you are mad at Sprint for not paying a bill? Pay the damn bill and move on with your life. You are bringing this on yourself. Put yourself in their position, if someone not a family or friend that owed you $30+ dollars, you wouldn't care? HA!!! you would be b1tching and moaning too. Grow a pair and pay up.
I see a GO phone in your future.......just sayin'
I'm not on pre-paid services. Im on a 2 yr. Contract. My credit is on the line.
So why am I being treated
Like I'm on pre paid services.?
*edit* and im sure a "GO" phone gets better internet speeds. So it doesn't seem like a bad idea.

ive never had a lick of problems with my photon, speeds occasionally suck but thats gonna be with any phone. so what do you want?

its not over 30 bucks, i assure you i have had buddies who have missed entire months of payments and paid the next month double and been fine, what it sounds like to me is you are 30 dollars over your spending limit program and they are going to shut off your stuff.
the point of teh two year contract is to subsidize the cost of a phone by ensuring you will play along for 2 years.

No,idk about...i tried asking about that...my spending limit is 150.... My regular bill is usually around $90 but I had got the photon beginning of april, so they added $36 for activation fee.
Which brings me close to my spending limit but not over. I paid $100 the other day. Not the full amount.yes I know that but why try to shut off my services over $30.
But I'm glad so many people love sprint and their services. I for one am not happy with it but I still pay them.

I have not missed a payment. just didnt pay the full amount, which was $30 from may 2nd. New bill cycle is on the 8th. But isn't due till june 2nd. So that makes jun2nd bill like $120. Spending limit not reached.

Spending limit? What is that? I have had $1,000+ monthly bills (always paid on time) and never had my service threatened.
If you didn't pay the full amount I can see why they would shut off your service. Not everything is free buddy. Grow up and be responsible for your actions. Stop *****ing like a little kid.

Just call them and ask them for a payment extension. Unless you are very very late they will not deny you
I was reading through the user agreement and the bank that administers the prepaid google wallet card charges a monthly maintenance fee of $2 per month and the card expires after 5 years. Just a heads up for those that may be unaware. Make sure you use that initial $10 or it may slowly deplete.
I would think google would make this a free service to entice users and get more merchants on board. I can see people getting turned off by the fees. Also, I believe the minimum amount to add to the prepaid google card is $20. I guess one good way to use up the last remaining money would be to prepay for gas in the exact amount left on the card in order to use it all up.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I wont be using Google wallet after using the initial $10.00. $2.00 maintenance fee a month? What a bunch of BS.
What happens if I use the $10?
Do they still keep charging $2/month after that?
Not shocking most banks charge a fee and seeing how the bank is citi bank that's not shocking at all

If I read the terms right, The fee is only charged when inactive.
This fee will be waived where there has been a transaction or reload in the previous six consecutive month period.

So they're pretty much encouraging you to use it.
Edit:
Or it means the fee stops after 6 months of regular use... Dammit I hate fine print.
I don't know what is more shocking. That Wallet charges a $2 monthly fee or that somebody on here actually read the fine print.

No, only when they have to keep track of your money in the account and it goes unused for 6 months.
I actually like using mine. I already put $100 on mine to keep as emergency since I forget my wallet sometimes when I'm heading out to the flying field
Sounds like a gift card. They dont want to track 50 million $10 balances forever so after a while they just charge you a small fee to make it go away eventually.
It's a little confusing. I guess time will tell. I don't know why they can't be clearer in their legal jargon! I think they make things as vague as possible so they can argue any angle!
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Sounds to me that the fee only aplies if you haven't used the card in more than 6 months. Just use it every now and then and there is no fee.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA
i understand the fee for inactivity. The annoying part is that fee doesn't show up in the transaction history. If you don't know what your balance was, there is no notification that you were charged anything at all.
