[Q] Troublr with rooted nook tablet - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Fisrt let me say thank you to all who contribute! Two weeks ago I had no clue this info was available for us common folk. I was given a Nook Tablet for Christmas, researched it's capabilities and found xda. I did successfully root it(thanks to Indirect and the grace of God).It worked majically but I powered down and upon restart I have lost ability to access android market, android keyboard, or TitaniumB Pro. Any help at all would be appriciated greatly!
I went from to in 2.2 seconds...

That most likely means that you got the upgrade to 1.4.1 so you lost root and sideloading. You'll have to go back to stock 1.4.0 then root and block that OTA as much as you can again.

Well that blows lol, I tried to do the ota block with TB, that;s why I paid for it but I guess I didn't do it all the way. I went thru 3 different computors to get the root and ended up having to do it at work so i guess I'll go thru that process again and see what happens. Thank you for your input. I have alot alot to do today but when I get to it I'll relay the outcome.
And btw, all of you here at XDA are AWESOME!

Be sure to check to make sure it is at version 1.4.1 before doing a downgrade.

Right now it still says "unknown" as if it's rooted, does that mean it still is?

Veronica, I know its been a long tike since we used this thread. I gave up on my nook for awhile when I got my new phone but I picked it back up in time to get your CM7 ics ribbon mod. Its been over a month since I did it and its preformed flawlessly! Very pleased and content with it so wanted to say thank you very much, excellent work!

Is it possible to access my internal SD card for storage? I've looked everywhere to find a way to use it but can't find anything so now when I go to download games it won't due to insufficient space. I thought this rom was allowing free access to that sdcard but i could be wrong. Thx!

rooting?

Hey guys, I got the g1 when it first came out, and i rooted it after having it for about 6 months i think, well i've had the vibrant for about 3 months now, and i'm starting to wonder if i should root? I was wondering if there's a list somewhere that says what a rooted vibrant can do? or if one of you amazing people would just make up a list real quick. I know the reason i rooted the g1 was to get multi touch, tethering, and apps to sd. Since the vibrant does all that, and has the 16 gb internal, i was wondering what the draw is to root the vibrant...thanks guys.

Well if the vibrant the way it is, is working out for you then there is no point rooting. If you need more from your device like wireless tethering, make full backups of your phone incase tmobile comes up with another OTA update and bricks your phone or you want to remove some of the bloatware like Avatar or Media hub. Then head over to the Development section, start reading through the Vibrant Bible.
Hope this helps.
Check the sticky. I show how easy it is, what you can do and how to make the phone faster.
That would really set him back if he wanted to go back to fusion. I lost root when I odin ji6. Minor inconvenience.
Just unlock your phone man.

[Q] Impression i7 Tablet

I was recently shopping for a knock-around tablet and came across leaderinternationalinc dot com this little guy at Kmart. Yep, I said Kmart. When I asked the price and they told me $129, I said SOLD!.
So far it's been average in performance and had to do some trickery to get some apps installed (Android/Amazon Market, Pandora, Google Talk, etc.) and am still having some difficulty installing other apps. It seems as if they really want you to use their market and apps, some of which are okay, I guess. I got Netflix installed, but the audio/video isn't in sync and everything is a hue of blue. Might be a Flash Player issue - also which I can't seem to update.
Anyway, the bad news is I can't find a way to get in to bootloader or able to root this tab with oneclick. Hopefully they didn't lock this thing down to hard.
Additionally, since the screen is resistive, using a stylus makes it a bit easier to navigate. Worth the money so far!
I'm praying the brilliant dev brains here at XDA will purchase this one and create a simple root/rom that allows me to take this thing to the next level!
Anybody out there?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

We're heeerreeee basit....
Were you able to get the standard Market installed on it? I was able to get it along with Pandora, Google Voice and a couple others (Netflix not working well) with a little trickery. Still can't get Google Talk and a few other things like an updated Flash.
If I can get a plain vanilla Froyo on this I would give this cheap little tab a solid B.
#bonus
I know this doesn't have anything to do with my original [Q], but I thought I would share anyway...
I contacted Impression about another AC adapter... 1 isn't enough...
After I registered my device, they shipped me another for free!
Any devs out there for this one?
just return it and get another one, a tablet thats $129 is probably not going to be great at that price.. other than the time hp touchpads were $99
Yeah, it's not the snappiest device I've owned, but makes a great desk-side companion. Mainly use it for Pandora, Weather, IM and a few other things...I'm generally still happy with it although I know it won't replace my primary device. Having the (free) second AC adapter is nice so I don't have to carry that back and forth. 2 hours of streaming music kills the battery dead.
Stay plugged in with this one.
Still hoping, praying that a dev picks one of these up...

You can install the Android Market without any funny business. Just download the apk and install. Still think this device can perform much better if it just had vanilla froyo... Hope someone cracks it.

I used super1click, the newest version. It didnt work the first few times, i ended up doing shell root first, then was able to achieve root as normal. It did seem to take a while.
Edit: I just rooted a 2nd i7.... had the same trouble with it just hanging during root. When it hangs, quickly unplug the usb the replug it in. Once it detects usb debugging again it will root properly and pass the verification at the end.
Hope that helps

Just attempted rooting it myself with Superoneclick.
Did shell root first and that went fine. Attempted normal root right after and it hung right at the end when it said the device was rooted and would restart. Unplugged and replugged the usb quickly and then it rebooted.
My i7 was definitely not rooted when it rebooted. Not sure what went wrong. Attempted it numerous times with the same result sadly. Did it hang right at the end for you or at a different point during the root?

When it hangs at the end it never worked for me. Id suggest trying the different methods to root instead of auto....i just pretty much tried everything until i goot root to stick...if it hangs during root steps thats when to unplug and replug.

[Q] Should I get a galaxy tab 7.0 plus or a nook tablet?

I can't decide. I've watched youtube videos of both of them and they both look impressive. The nook tablet being $150 cheaper than the galaxy tab is very nice. But I'm hesitating because last summer I bought a nook color and wasn't all that impressed with it even after rooting it. The overall performance didn't meet my expectations. It's sluggish, N64oid doesn't work on the latest cyanogenmod for it, the internet browser crashes, I keep losing my wi-fi connection, etc. In the youtube videos I watched the rooted nook tablet looks like it fixed all of these issues. But I'm still not sure. I don't wanna make the same mistake again. I want a full android experience. Even if it means spending the extra money on the galaxy tab. What should I do?
The Nook Tablet is MUCH faster than the Nook Color (I had one), but I don't have N64oid, so I don't know the performance of running that.
To be honest, if you want PURE Android OS experience WITHOUT the hassle of sideloading GoLauncher, preventing OTA updates, etc..etc.., then get the Galaxy Tab 7 Plus. But if cost is important and you don't mind fiddling with the above, then go with the Nook.
I had the Nook Tablet since it came out and I spent more time trying to get it to work as a pure Android tablet than actually enjoying it, such as sideloading app, figuring out why certain apps doesn't work, etc.. and NOW I got the dreaded 1.41 update.
I am still trying to figure out this 1.4.1 update. When I revert back to 1.4.0, in order to use the NT, I had to turn on Wifi and register. Afterwards, I tried to sideload GoLauncher because I need to download Android Market app in order to get Titanium Backup (TB). TB is required to prevent the OTA update. However, before I get to downloading TB, I received the freakin OTA update again!!
I just want an Android tablet that I can use AND cheap, but apparently the headache of all the above made me not really enjoying the Tablet. So I am putting up my NT for sale and buying the Galaxy 7.0 Plus OR Galaxy Note, whenever it comes out here in the USA
The above is just my experience, so your mileage may vary.
the dilema is simple if you have the money go for the galaxy tab if someday the nook tablet gets the bootloader finally unlocked then u could sell your galaxy tablet and go for the nook tablet and get some bucks back to you , but if you get to love and need the whole (camera + other addons) experience then stick with the galaxy
That was actually very helpful. It does sound like a hassle/headache. Thanks.

I am fine with no camera, but I think the final straw was when I am trying to go back to 1.4.0 AND stop the OTA from happening again. Twice I tried the method I posted above, TWICE I get the OTA update before I can prevent it.
I know CM7 will come in when the bootloader is unlocked, but it probably will be months away before it becomes stable on the Tablet.

Hey guys, who should I sell my nook color too? And how much can I expect to get for it?
Try Amazon.com. Search for the "Nook Color" and when it show up, look at the right side, there is a button that state "Sell yours here".
I avoid eBay because of the scammers and Paypal HOLD your money for 2-4 weeks before releasing it to you. If the buyer "complaint" about your item, valid or not, then Paypal hold it even longer.
Not sure the going price for the NC nowadays.

Because I need the funds for the samsung galaxy tab 7.0 plus. I wouldn't need both. Especially when the nook color wouldn't get used once I have the galaxy tab.

In excellent condition, about $120 (unless you have extra accessories). Remember that B&N refurbs with a standard 1-year warranty are $149.

The 1.4.1 update is 283 MB. You must have a relatively fast connection
After restoring to 1.4.0 via Adam_Outler's method, you could try downloading something very large on your pc (large enough to effect the speed of all the devices on your network) while configuring the nook tablet to be rooted. Really all you need to download onto the Nook Tablet itself to root is the tgps_launcher.apk. Turn off your wifi after downloading it and then root. Continue to keep your wifi off on the NT.
On your pc, download the android central sideloading wonder machine here. Also the titantium backup apk from here. Use the sideloading wonder machine to install titantium backup. You need to have USB debugging enabled on the tablet just like during the rooting process via tgps_launcher. Now you can follow indirect's OTA blocking method here (all while keeping wifi off), and you should be safe.
The only time you will have wifi on is from first registering the device to downloading the tgps_launcher from here.
After the tgps_launcher is installed, there should be no need to turn on wifi until after you get the update block.
xdahgary was the person who suggested using the sideloading wonder machine, so credit goes to him (and indirect who figured out adb install works) for finding a way to sideload without having to use the web browser after the getting access to the development settings menu via tgps_launcher.
Thanks for the information. Didn't know I can download TB instead going to Market. I'll try it out and see how it goes.
My Internet speed is 24 Mbps, but average throughput is about 21 Mbps, so I think it's not that fast. Not sure how my Tablet can attempt to download the update so fast. But with WiFi off, should be no issue.

I just spent hours trying to get by the first step: going back to 1.4.0.
I followed the link above (AdamOutler's method) and downloaded the file (acclaim-update_stockrecovery.zip). Put it in the SD card and then put the card into the NT. Rebooted NT....nothing happened, just back to NT normal screen.
I tried 4 different SD cards (Kingston, Transcend, SanDisk with varying size, from 4GB to 32GB) and same..nothing.
I viewed the YouTube video instructions and noted the filename that was downloaded is "acclaim-update.zip", no "_stockrecovery" word. So I renamed the file and tried again.... same thing.
So the 1st step failed..so far. I am also preparing for the 2nd step, which is getting the Android Central Sideload wonder and the link for the Mac is DOWN. I don't have a Windows box, so I have to wait till someone posted the link again.
This is what I meant in my post no. 2 above, where it just taking TOO MUCH of MY TIME just to get the NT function as a pure Android OS (I don't care about GPS or Camera). It's not fun going to Fry's Electronics, bought THREE (3) different SD cards and found out none of them works for restoring to 1.4.0, AMONG OTHER THINGS that I have to do to get to pure Android OS.
Not complaining against the NT, nor to the people who helped me with the instructions, but I just want something that doesn't take too much of my time.

Was LITERALLY about to post about that same link...
anyways...i was debating on taking it back as well...i just can't anymore...even with a locked boatloader, i still have, essentially, UNLIMITED storage...sure, i gotta swap out sd cards, but hey wtf...i can have 16gb of TV shows, 8gbs of movies, and 32gb of music...and all of fits in my wallet....no cloud needed, no wifi needed, BUT if want, i got the flix and crackle on there too!!
so in the end....sure we may have a locked bootloader, but we can still use ADW and get most of the apps we want online...it's not as easy, but its still cheaper and slicker...
B&N will either unlock it soon, it is the holiday season people and not everyone is working, or some amazing dev will see that shiny weak spot in the code....patience....
hell, over at the SGSII forum, they have the ICS code for weeks now and still don't have a stable ROM on that beast of phone....patience....
Progress seems to be being made on the bootloader over here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378886
Nexus S 4G 4.0.3
The remainder are incompatible micro SD cards. My 16GB Sandisk wouldn't work but a 4GB Sandisk did work.
With respect to the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, I'm tempted to turn in my Nook and get this. The frustration level has already exceeded the additional cost. I'd also like a SIP app like Sipdroid or Csipsimple to work on this device but so far I haven't found any. I suspect this wouldn't be an issue on the Galaxy.

[Q] ZTE Valet Root Possible?

So recently bought the straight Talk ZTE Valet, and have been searching for a root for this device if anyone knows of any or is interested on trying to develop a root exploit. I'm willing to dump any and all files, as well as try any and all rooting methods. If there is already a root im sorry for making a duplicate post.
I'm also looking for a root process that might work on the ZTE Valet now available on Tracfone. Help please!
Any luck?
I am also looking for a root solution for this phone. Either of you had any luck?
I have tried many methods that have worked on other devices, but no luck yet.
I'm also interested, mainly to move more apps, data. The phone does move some apps to a micro SD but not all.

The ZTE Valet Z665 has JB (4.1.1).
So far, I've tried Bin4ry (v32), framaroot (1.6.1), and poot (current version). None worked. In looking at superoneclick, I might not be understanding things very well but it appears to require a CWM image which does not (yet) exist - is that right?
What other methods appear to be worth a try and what have people tried on the ZTE Valet? Anyone aware of a source for the stock ROM? Are there other phones sufficiently similar where the CWM recovery would function on the Valet?
BTW, I just picked up my ZTE Valet at Fred Meyer where it was on sale for $49.99 (Tracfone, no contract). It's a great buy for that price. The sale is over but if interested, keep an eye out for the ads.
Like others, thanks for any ideas.

OK - tried superoneclick and z4root. These in addition to Bin4ry, framaroot, and poot didn't work. I'm a novice at this and am nervous trying some of these options that seem to lack proper pedigree and openness. Also, since I don't have a backup, a more invasive technique also worries me. I'm hoping one of you brave souls will try something out and hopefully give some of us some specifics on what you did to get this phone rooted. It would also be helpful to know what you did actually try (details) that didn't work. Thanks.
Update: Also just tried the adb method which didn't work for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224774[/adb root guide].
Although I took care in trying each of the methods mentioned above and repeated them, I could have screwed up. So ... maybe someone else can report their results just to be sure. I would not re-try z4root but the others don't seem too harmful and my phone still works.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224774

Tried all of the above also z4root really seemed to take a toll on the device a question I was wondering is if we had an almost identical phone would the cwm for that work?

I'm also interested, mainly to move more apps, data. The phone does move some apps to a micro SD but not all.

My ZTE turned out to be defective. Screen become unresponsive even after going to recovery, trying to wipe caches/reformatting and even finally attemting to restore to factory state. K-mart wouldn't accept it for an exchange since I bought it out of state. TracFone says they will'll replace it after I ship it to them on their dime. Up until this I liked the phone, except for sound clarity outgoing seemed poorer than mt LG290c from one test from a noisy place.
New phone received and checks out OK enuf to keep. WiFi OK at home but only fair with weak source. Doing this on my Hisense Sero 7 Pro which does better with less than strongest wifi. Screen slightly less crisp at lower brightness than original when it worked. Got 9x more min, text, MB than expected when transferred from old phone so definitely keeping.
