I've heard that froyo has it built in, they've been talking about it being buggy in the i9000 forums.
your supposed to hold the back button and tap the home button but I havent got it to work (might not be in my rom) some i9000 users say it gets stuck on, taking a ton of snapshots of the homescreen lol
guess it doesnt work on obsidian 4.2 rom then because i get nothing =/
I did something with the buttons and took one but havent been able to do it again

It happens when the phone lags like crazy and then you press those buttons. Don't ask me why, but this has happened twice with me.
IDK if people knoww about this, but today on my brothers vibrant which is fully stock, no lag fixes no root.
When its booting, i pressed the menu button over and over again then at the bottom it says SAFE MODE, but doesnt work on ROMS, because devs probably removed it or soemthing..
did anyone know about this?
It does work on roms it happened to me three days ago but had no idea what it was our how I did it pulled the battery and it was gone

oh i tried it on axura and it didnt work...
probably just me.
More to the point, does anyone know what it is for?
hmm.... I used to have this in the sticky but nobody ever could tell me it worked so I removed it....

Nero beta 3 + oclf
Yes if you boot and hold the menu button, it will go into safe mode. This means that it will disable all third party apps and services. You'll notice your installed widgets not working. It is annoying because when you reboot again, you'll have to take off your widgets and then replace them again. This mode is in case you get a rouge app, so you can uninstall before it starts. Kind of like window's safe mode.
basically what he said ^^
I've gotten into safe mode once by accident, without intending to do so.
I hear you hold the menu capactive button down while turning on your phone, but I can't reproduce safe mode. I'm running rooted stock 2.2 kb5.
How do you get into safe mode? Holding the menu button down and turning on isn't doing it for me.
The one thing I've hated about DJ05, DL09, and now our Froyo releases is that the timeouts on the capacitive touchkey backlights have gotten longer and longer. In DI01 it was a couple of seconds, in DJ05 it was the length of your screen timeout, and by EB01 and beyond it's now the length of your screen timeout AND reset every time you touch *anything*.
Well, I've finally gotten around to figuring out where the change was (setScreenOffTimeoutsLocked() in PowerManagerService.smali in services.jar) and modding it back. Now, as in DI01, the keys will only light up for a few seconds after you press one. I haven't reverted the recent change of regular screen touches resetting this time after the touchkeys have gone on, though: since the baseline is very short, this isn't a big issue.
Note that the version of services.jar on which this is based is from Super Clean 2.9.2. However, a diff seems to show that the only difference between adrynalyne's services.jar and the stock EB01 is the inclusion, in the former, of the battery notification/data throttling removal mods. So it *should* work with any deodexed EB01-based framework, though I've only tested on the self-customized SC292 I'm running.
The mod does *not* interfere with BLN.
UPDATE 4/28: I've removed the previous EC01/ED01 versions because they were turning on the lights a bit too often (screen press as well as button press). Instead, here are two fixed Edify-script versions for ED01.
Evil Fascination/stock ED01 folks should use shortlight-evil341, which basically just includes the light fix and the sbrissen mods. Community ROM folks should use shortlight-community12, which has a couple of other options unique to that framework.
The new files include a permissions fix, so just install the zip and reboot. (Those installing the original file -- SC292/EB01 and Amend only -- still need to manually mount /data and /dbdata and run the fix permissions script in CWM 2.5 after installation.) First boot will take a while.
UPDATE 5/17: From version 3.5 forward, Evil Fascination folks should use the community zip as well. Evil341 is still good for stock ROM users.
UPDATE 6/13: New version (shortlight-cROM2) uploaded for Community ROM 2.0. Edify only, like the 4/28 version.
UPDATE 8/31: New version for Powerwashed (ED05). Edify only.
To be honest I like it when the keys are lit up. Especially in the dark and you're trying to hit one of those buttons. But I do agree that they shouldn't be on after you lock the screen....

Do your keys really stay lit up after you lock the screen? What rom are you using these days?
I'm running Adyn's latest superclean (2.92) and jt's ec10 kernel (TW_kernel-0327-2) and haven't seen this issue. I'm wondering if there is a bug somewhere that is causing this issue with other people.
I don't have a problem with their time staying on..I do wish they weren't so bright..
Has anyone noticed that the in-call "buzz" is related to the soft-key lights being on? I haven't used a Touchwiz ROM in a while (including Superclean), but this is something I've noticed running other ROMs.
This fix might help with that.
Awesome!! Thanks, I can't stand the long backlight time. This is perfect!

Yep.
It's funny, a bunch of people like the long lights -- and it's their complaints, I think, that made Samsung edit the behavior in later firmwares. But I'm also sure there are a bunch of people who don't, so now there's a choice.
I also think if the lights were as muted as they are on, say, a Captivate, things might be different.
I tried this out. If I wake up my phone the lights stay off but as soon as I press one they never go off until the phone goes to sleep again.

Yea, the lights help locate the buttons in the dark, but they are so bright that they almost overpower the screen. As handy as they are, I'd rather do without them all together personally. But this is a great compromise.

Yikes, you wiped data!
Don't do that, this is a tiny framework change. (I think I'll add that to the OP.)
Not sure what could be off -- I assume the framework didn't change between 2.9.1 and 2.9.2. You used Red clockwork and not Orange, right? Maybe try reflashing...
(Since you're also in the SC thread, note that flashing any ROM will undo this change.)

My mistake, I didn't wipe data, only cache and dalvik (that's what I get for typing in a hurry).
I have Red clockwork, the latest from 3/30. I'll try again after my battery finishes charging.
Bizarrely, the lights seem to revert to "always on after touch" mode while the screen is in power-low super dim mode. Not sure if or how I can do anything about this.

Well I don't know about this particular version since people are still reporting problems downloading it, but in all the versions of S-Voice I've tried crash and logcat cites a missing resource
I have no issues asking about empire state building and hitting more. The flashable zip I posted link to from wanam is like 80mb and has the libs and everything. I haven't gotten it to fc yet and I have tried.

I got force closed when setting a calendar entry. It set the entry but force closed in the process so it "sorta worked"
Alarm, open app, navi, texting, posting to facebook, asking questions, etc....works great on S2.
I got a massive scare though when flashing it. I hit reboot the screen dimmed and then went all funky colors. I had to rip the battery. It booted back up fine into CWM, rebooted again, and phone is working fine. I'm going to chuck that up as random.
I get s-voice to work, and well, but I don't see it listed in my app drawer. The only way to bring it up is to long press the search button. Any ideas?

I'm running Mystic's Glory v4.0. I just dl'ed this Svoice zip to my phone. The ROM Manager asked if I wanted to install and I followed the prompts. The opening Samsung Galaxy SII screen comes on, then it goes black and nothing happens.
I popped out the battery a few times and tried to reboot, but same thing happens: Intro screen then black.
Any ideas?

Try wiping cache and dalvik with a fix permissions for good measure. If that doesn't work sounds like a reflash of from is in order.
PS. Try flashing it manually in recovery instead of using rom manager. I've seen it do all kinds of weird ****.

Thanks for the fast reply!
Can you give me a little more detailed instructions. How do I get into my CWM to wipe cache and dalvik with a dead phone? Or how do I reflash with a dead phone?
In fact, how do I get into recovery? I hold down the Vol Down button and the power button and instead of taking me to recovery, it goes to:
Warning!!
A custom OS can cause critical problems...
I can then either Vol Up to Continue or Vol Down to Restart phone. If I press Vol Down, say problem. Vol UP takes me to another screen that says:
Odin Mod, Downloading...Do not turn off target!!
Please advise.
Thanks!!!

You got this posted in more than one thread huh? Good move!
Yes theres a trick. Use the damn search function!.
As you may know, all ICS stock based roms for Samgung Galaxy 2 have one common and very unpleasant feature - a home button delay. This delay is noticeable every time you press home button to exit an application, return back from settings to dashboard or if you want to return to your home screen. As a result you may have a feeling that your phone response after clicking a home button is delayed app. 1s and it will degrade overall phone responsivness.
For demonstration of a problem see this video.
Finally the fix is here and you may enjoy it on your Galaxy S2 with the newest miuiandroid 2.8.17 rom with integrated 3-way Reboot options from kong. It is not tested on another miui releases, but probably could work.
Installation:
Just install the zip in cwm recovery and you are good to go.
If you enjoy my work you may consider a small donation to support my further development.
Note: This will NOT fix lockscreen lag, it is present because your cpu is in powersaving mode and takes some time to utilize again.
Please do not copy this patch to another hosts, always use a link to this forum instead.
I'm not responsible for any problems or data corruption you may have using this patch. For your safety always backup your rom before doing any modifications.
I'm keen to try this but scared it messes something up Any lab rats willing to test it first?

If you apply it correctly it will remove this delay completely and if you press home button the phone reacts immediately. Check if you have 3 way reboot option. If not a patch has not been applied...

If you have the patch applied there is no difference in speed between back and home button - and that's it! Now if you would flash unmodified rom you would see the difference between these two buttons very quickly
what is the process to remove this patch because I applied it and now my phone will not turn on passed the samsung logo?
