SGS2 Outgoing phone calls not working after root - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am having problems with phone calls after rooting. Tried restoring to stock, problem still persists.
When on phone call I can hear the other person perfectly, but all the other person hears is a loud buzz.
Thought it could be mic, but i can record sounds without problems. So it is not hardware?
I used Odin to root with "CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEF_KJ2-v4.4-CWM4" since it matched kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKJ2- CL676699 [email protected]#2 (Bulid number GINGERBREAD.XWKJ2).
Made CWM backup.
Afterward upgraded to Cognition 777 to realise my phone calls are not working.
So using odin and xda forum tutorials i restored phone to original firmware, did a factory reset but sill have no luck in solving the problem.
Would appreciate any helpfull info,
With regards,
Sapa
Edit: i just noticed my current Baseband version is I777UCKJ4 .. seems like this could be related to the problem and what to do next? I do not recall the baseband version before rooting

Is that not a discontinued rom .
Is it a SGS2 rom ????? rom says its for SGH1777
Is that not for a specific network AT &T ..

XWKJ2 Stock Kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/DDKCBP8PHD
This is what i used to restore. It is from [ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares
I bought the phone in a shop, so its debranded. I dont know if it is AT&T specified rom above. I use European mobile network

Dont know what you have done looks like a firmware a different phone installed = Cognition 1777 not for your phone model probably .
Modem is still wrong modem i believe unless you are on AT&T ..
To be safe i would find out what model phone you bought ig i9100 SGS 2 international version then download correct firmware for your region from stock rom threads that includes correct modem and CSC .
Do not root and do not flash another kernel .
Follow wipe guide install firmware and test .
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
Still problems use usb jig to set rom counter to zero .
Return to service centre .
jje

Thank you for your help JJEgan
I repaired it and now it works great.
Just for the record if someone has similar problem.
The problem was wrong country modem (baseband) flashed. Found a matching EU one, flashed it together with everything else that came with the download. I used I9100XXKI3 firmware, modem, CSC..

[Q] Phone stuck on Galaxy logo !!

I recently installed WanamLite V7.7 XXLP6 Android 4.0.3 Final LP6 on my phone, but the signal was awful, so i tried to install [KERNEL] SpeedMod SGS2 [K2-20 CWM5 CIFS ROOT], hoping that it would fix my problems with the signal.
After that, the phone is permanetly stuck on the Samsung logo and won't go any further. I tried to re-flash the ROM but the problem is still there.
After that I've tried to fix the problem by following instructions on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499, but still nothing.
Can someone please help me to fix this problem?
Thanks for your time
I think that you need to do a restore or to flash a gingerbread rom before the ics one... Speedmod is not for ics roms...
Sent from my Galaxy S II powered by CheckROM
You said you followed pulsar's "boot loop" thread... so does that mean you cleared cache, wiped data, factory reset, all that?
Also, a future FYI. Kernels will never address your problems with phone signal. Flashing modems will, but kernels, never.
However, they might affect wi-fi signal, as some kernels have wi-fi drivers included.
Thanks for your responses. I';ve managed to fix my problem by flashing a gingerbread rom. After that i had major signal issues. I've flashed the main modem for my S2 (ki4) but i'm still facing the same issues. Any ideas how to fix the signal problem?

Try different modems until you find one that works well for you. That's what I and many other people on here have done. This is one thread with CW flashable modems (there are others, search), there are other threads on here (search) with Odin flashable modems if you prefer to use that.
i tried many... right now i'm using XLP6 which shows -93dBm but still when i'm on the phone, 90% the connection is lost and the phone hangs up
I've found that how well a modem works for you depends on where you live and service provider. For me, in Germany on T-mobile I've found XXKI3 to have the best results (with CM7)
I would be trying the modem that came with the phone .
jje
im also running wanamlite 7.7 but with the LP6 kernel...and indeed the kernel has nothing to do with signal levels
i did change the modem to XXKPA and the battery, signal has improved a lot so im sticking with it, my phone originally came with KK1 which kinda sucked even with stock rom
so follow the link they gave you and try the modem untill you find one that suits your needs
by the way, before flashing stuff you should read what is made for what rom so you can avoid bricks/bootloops

[Q] Please help!!!

I would like some advice because I 've heard too many different oppinions and I'm confused...
To begin my original baseband is XXLPQ. I was told to put a kernel with LPQ to root my phone... so I did! Then I put resurrection v 1.0 which was based in LPQ also and everything was Ok except battery. So I read about siyah and I install it but for some reason the phone couldn't open so normally I could choose ether install my previous kernel or install the hole rom to be sure. But as I saw the new version of resurrection 1.1 I said why not.. (although, 1.1 is based on LPE and I asked if there is any problem that I'm in LPQ and they told me there no problem..) So I did. I put siyah(v3) too and there all should be stable and perfect... but of course in my case there are not. Programs not responding all the time, battery suchs but I guess it's too early to say and generaly it crashes... So my question is: is there any case that instabillity caused by diferent basebands??? If not why am I having this??? With a reinstall of the new rom(v 1.1) would it be any difference???(and all programms too ... but manually, not by restore) Or should I put the previous rom?

Phone came with ICS firmware ???

Baseband is wrong re kernel
Its supposed to be tied to your firmware PDA version not the baseband

No basebands are modems
If not why am I having this???
Sounds like multiple flashing this that and the other syndrome .
Suggest wipe the lot and start at the beginning and read the instructions faqs and guides .

hi
Every installation of a ROM you should always do a full wipe to be sure it is clean to receive a new one. And also when you want to change kernels you need a cleaning script for that. You can search for it here at xda.
Thanks gyus think I got it!!
JJEgan yes it was with ICS firmware..
When I was saying baseband I meant PDA... its the same letters and in phone information written as baseband but found the PDA too and its the same... \Now I know that this is just the rom... anyway thank you!!!

Jje it's not wrong imei or faulty sim because I just switched back to my previous 4.1.2 chaos rom and it works fine, the rom that I install ms rom hd was a 4.2.1 rom based on leaked firmware with a baseband included, could it be that 4.1.2 modems don't work with the 4.2.1 leak? Or is my CSC wrong, because like I said in my previous post, I get edge, I get a signal, my imei is there the only thing I can't do is make a call

[Q][HELP] Galaxy S3 emergency calls only

Hello guys, I have read many topics about this and I have a problem. I flashed 4.1.2 stock firmware over that same firmware that was installed ( i deleted some files like all share that i need again) and now I can't connect to network, it says it has registered but in the notifications i have Unable to connect to my carrier.
The phone is factory unlocked and i have backed up my EFS and tryed to restore but nothing. The SIM card is working, i tried in other phone, i also tried downloading and installing the original phone firmware also 4.1.2 from Kies, but nothing.
My IMEI is correct, also my S/N is correct, it is not generic or 000000..
I have also tried the ARIZA patch but nothing. I am having the signal and everything is working but i cannot register to network.
How can i fix this guys, and please, don't say search, believe me I've searched alot.
Some more information:
current rom (originally shipped with phone): I9300XXEMG4
One set your mobile network up manually .
Two flash stock rom with correct modem and csc for your network .
Contact your network .
Return phone to vendor or take it to a service centre .

I tried manually set up network, tried manual APN's, also tried flashing stock rom for my network and generic international firmware, nothing worked.
I'll try flashing EMG4 modem to see if it will work.
Edit: EMG4 modem already installed, so not working.
Edit2: I tried ARIZA patch v06, is it only for 4.3 or does it work on 4.1.2 android, i know that v05 is for 4.1.2 but i can't find link anywhere, does anyone have link to version 05 of ARIZA patch?
Edit3: Tried ARIZA patch v05 and IMEI got 00499... going to get it serviced.

I'll take it to local servicer, not to official service, yes i have waranty but it is in another country, and by local servicer it'll cost me around 15$ to fix this and it's better than me going to another country and wait like 2 weeks to get it solved
I had this problem too. Is your SD card slot working?
Both slots (sim and SD card) where broken on my S3.
In the Service Centre they replaced the mainboard. After that all was working again.
Don't forget to reset the counters and flash a original ROM from samsung through Odin.
Good luck.

Emergeny calls Out of service area

Hello everyone,
First of all i want to thank you for all this guides that i was trying to use here
So here's my story.
I got Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 with bootloop issue so i decide to fix this by myself.
I was trying to install fimware using KIES but i doesn't fix my issue.
Then i was trying to search for right rom on several websites.
The right one and only working one was 4.0.4 with orange brand logo.
So i was excited that its finally working
Then i realize that my imei is null and my sim card is not working.
So i was trying to restore EFS using several tools and methods.
Finally i got it default IMEI 0049 but it was still not working.
My phone is not qualcomm based model so i cannot use nv item reader writer as it's required to edit IMEI
Even after applying phonutil patch my device is not being recognize as Qualcomm one.(because it's not)
So i was still looking for another way to change my imei manually as i have my original one on the box and under battery.
Finally I realized that i cannot make even Emergency calls it comes with message Out of service area.
So i was trying to apply few modem and radio updates to my phone but none of them are helping.
Anyone have similiar issue?
I have another Galaxy S3 that is working can i copy imei or whole system to my not working phone?
I know that after that i cannot use other device, but thats ok if its possible.

Have you tried patched modem and kernel? Did you read the guides on xda >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-imei-efs-stuff-i9300-including-t2393289 << and no you cannot copy imei from another phone.

I tried everything from this guide.
Regarding patch:
4.0.4-I9300BVALE4 firmware is the only one working on my Samsung
Patched modem and kernel that i found and try it are XXUGMK6.
Maybe they are different one or dedicated to my firmware

The reason you can't make calls is because at some point your phone software was on 4.3 this means your efs as changed to efs v2. Now because your current firmware is at 4.0.4 then your efs can't read this because 4.0.4 is efs v1. So you need to get a 4.3 stock rom onto your phone (I know you said only 4.0.4 works) but what are you using install firmware are you using Odin? If so what errors are you getting installing with Odin.
The patched modems and kernels are for 4.3 so they won't work on 4.0.4 or any other apart from 4.3
I was trying so many of them but its always ends with samsung logo loop it doesn' matter if i'm
do things like wipe cache, factory settings etc everytime its not working.
Even on 4.0.4 only this one rom is working.
Im always using ODIN, with KIES its always ends with samsung logo loop.

Ok a couple of things you could try (if you haven't already) I presume you have a custom recovery? Try flashing a custom stock 4.3 with recovery I suggest this >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/rom-sammys-stock-deodexed-rooted-t2585670 << This is as close to stock as possible but can be flashed with a custom recovery like Cwm,PhilZ,Twrp etc. You will also need to flash a 4.3 modem for this which is included in the thread. If the modem in the thread does not give you a signal (presuming the rom boots ) then keep the same custom rom but flash a patched modem and kernel on top with your custom recovery.
Don't forget to factory reset after flashing!
If none of that works you can always try the rescue firmware here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30087735&postcount=6 << obviously flash the 4.3 one. Hope that helps
Thank you very much for your help i will try this and let know here if it's working

So it's me again.
I have good news and bad news.
So i was able to install both of firmware with success.
After applying patched modem everything was still working.
But when im calling 112 for example im still having "out of service area" and my imei is still 004999...
So issue is still exist.
I can discover any network when i choose network its even says"registred on network" but then if im trying to choose some number im having error message that im not registred or if emergency call "out of service area".
Any ideas what still can i try ?
