So, I just picked up a GT 10.1 (ditched my iPad 2). Currently, my laptop is with a friend for a couple of weeks. I have this PC at work, but I'm not in IT anymore and have lost admin privledges, so I can't even mount as a drive at this time. I have an OLD pc in the garage at home that I could set up, but we are talking 3-4 mintues to open a browser, so it's functionally worthless...
This GT is a bit laggy and whatnot on the stack ROM, which I didn't expect since my Asus Transformer had similar specs and was not, but that's fine since rooting and a custom ROM should fix this. So, is there a way I can Root and Update the ROM WITHOUT having to use a PC?
Thanks
Unfortunately you need a windows to use odin, once you flash the recovery no more need...

Thank you though...
You might try on the work computer since you don't need to mount a drive or install any software. Run the Odin program and connect the tablet in download mode and see if it finds it. If so, just flash the CWM and you're golden.
After that, since you can't mount the device, you can download ROMs directly to the device, or get a program called "wifi file explorer" from the market to transfer files from your computer without mounting it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there are some signed superuser zips on the superuser website. Maybe you can flash those in the stock recovery. I may be wrong though. Idk if the recovery is looking for a specific file signature or just any file signature

Root Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Without a Computer!
I just came across this thread because I had the same question.
I figured out a solution. This is a bit of a headache, but in the end it worked for me. Try at your own risk.
Do all of the following directly on your device:
1. Download tabrooteasy.zip. You can find a link from galaxytabhacks . com.
2. Use a file manager (File Expert is my fave) to decompress the file and locate Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip.
3. Turn your tab off, then restart in recovery (hold Power + Vol Down, on the screen after the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 screen, let go quickly, press Vol Down, then press Power).
4. Choose the "apply zip from SD card" option in the stock recovery, then go to Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip and flash it.
5. Restart your tab and after it boots, go into SU and update the binaries.
Your tab is now rooted!
If you want to flash something else, the easiest way to me would be to download Rom Manager and flash CWM. Then download whatever you want to flash and either flash through Rom Manager or use Rom Manager to restart in recovery and flash manually through recovery.

Hi friends...
The stock ICS recovery looks a bit advanced, because you can apply updates from Cache!but that's not the point...
In stock recovery(of any kind) you DO NOT have the option for applying a custom zip package, you can try applying update.zip instead,so try renaming your update package...I didn't test it but am gonna' stock in some days' time...

You should ask in the galaxy tab 4 forum on a thread that's not been dead for three years.
Also, when you do so you'll need to give a lot more information. At a minimum you'll need to 1) explain what you're trying to do; and 2) recreate the steps that got you to the problem.

hi im having trouble getting CWM to work on my Rogers (GT-P7500R) WIFI+4G to accept CWM, I have trying to flash it and it sends my galaxy tab into a boot crash...I had to to restore it to stock kernel with ODIN 1.85 which worked fine, but still on the stupid default recovery (I HATE IT). as soon as I try and flash it with the CWM it simply turns off the tablet and then when I power on again, it shows the samsung galaxy tab logo for a second and then turns off again, then i use odin to flash stock and it works normal again, no data lost at all...any help plz, cause without CWM im pretty sure i cannot do other stuff like custom rom, kernels, overclocking...HELP!!!!!!!!!! im pretty sure this has a signed only bootloader right?? thats why i need something other then 3e recovery to be able to flash stuff
FIXED!!!!
so see below
Good work
Keep us posted! I pick mine up tonight and will be following your foot steps haha thanks for the info so far.
Hi,
so here is how to get clockworkmod on the samsung galaxy tab 10.1 (GT-P7500R)...I looked around XDA for hours before finding some useful info...here it is:
Step 1
download these files:
http://www.4shared.com/file/KbSJhFtI/recovery-cwm_4004-sam-tab-101t.html
and
http://www.4shared.com/rar/74D8ERjO/Odin_v185.html
Step 2
extract the odin zip file and run odin, by right clicking first and say run as administrator...reboot the phone into download mode (ask me if u do not know how , there will be a warning and then a screen with some text in the upper left, connect you device to the usb, and back in odin select the bootloader check box and click browse to the right and select the other recovery-cwm file u downloaded and click start, it should take a short time and you will see a progress bar on the screen...viola, you will have clockworkmod
OPTIONAL: if you want to root it at this time, just follow below:
Download this file:
http://www.4shared.com/zip/cVgtnw_t/Galaxy_root.html
Step 3
put the file in root of the device and reboot into recovery mode (ask me if u do not know how and select update from zip and select the file, then its done and done.
OPTIONAL: if you want to put a custom kernal on, so that you can overclock it to 1.4 ghz, like I have then follow below...it worked and works fine for me
Download this file:
http://www.4shared.com/zip/vWdGcQcr/boot-cm_26364_p4_ux_hc32-oc-xt.html
and follow from step 3 again.
PS: I also have a stock kernal for the rogers edition of the galaxy tab if needed, if u mess it up in the future
Overcome has a good working version of cwm and custom rom that install easily on the Rogers Tab -- the OC kernel by Pershoot works fine. The custom rom by Genbarou also installs well.
Im also on XDA on my tab too...

I was able to load the CWM Recovery onto my Rogers 4G Tab, however I flashed with the files from here initially:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089
using the 4G Recovery and Kernel files. This created nothing but boot loop. I was then able to use the CWM file from this post and get CWM to boot however that is all I can do at this time.
I cannot get the device to connect to PC for usb storage (to potentially load a bootable rom) while in CWM as it says "unable to open ums lunefile (no such file or directory).
I believe the kernel.zip file from the other post has messed up my device. Does anyone have a Stock Rogers Kernel, or custom that is flashable via ODIN so I can at least get back to Android OS and load a Rom via USB?
Also can someone repost the Galaxy_root.zip file. I cant download from 4shared. Keeps timing out to file not found. THANKs

I dont know if this will help but you need to know that its not a 4G, its actually 3G+ so if you want to root, dont use the 4G method
I installed the cwm without any problem by following this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089
and by following this :
RETAIL 3G
[GTP7500]
1. Download this Root.zip file to your tablet and move it to root directory of tablet storage. (you can also download on comp. then transfer to tablet)
2. Reboot tab and go into recovery mode and apply the root.zip you just downloaded.
3. Then reboot
rooted already
For CWM
1. After rooting download and install Rom Manager from market.
2. open Rom Manager app and have it install clockwork Mod to your device, you should see your device listed within Rom manager.
3. Done.
I was unable to even get the device to recognize by PC. I could not load any zip files. Luckily I found a P7105 fille ODIN file that I was able to load. however it is a WIFI ONLY version I have. However it has enabled me to boot back to android and load files via usb. I am going to try OVERCOME 10.1 and hope that applies the necessary root as well as 3G access.
will report back

2. Reboot tab and go into recovery mode and apply the root.zip you just downloaded.
3. Then reboot
Note 1: The downloaded file is not named Root.zip. You can of course rename it yourself.
Note 2: To enter recovery mode, after you use vol- to highlight the recovery icon, power button didn't seem to work in selecting it. But you just wait for a min, it'll work.
Note 3: It only takes seconds to load and run the Root.zip. Then you are good to reboot, and it's done.

Hi forum
I just purchase a Galaxy Tab 10.1 16GB No SD card version that comes preinstalled with Android 3.1 and it feels sluggish in use to put it midly.
Now I purchased the unit as an upgrade for my Galaxy Tab 7" which already runs the excellent Overcome Rom. I remember rooting and installing was extremely simple and easy but it has been a long while since I've done any such thing.
I'm looking for a complete guide to install the newest Overcome Rom for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and unfortunately the guide on the Overcome site is currently down for maintenance and I'm not allowed to post in the Overcome thread here on the site. I need help rooting the unit as well as I figure it's required to install the rom.
I'll appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance.
Root using the guide in the dev section.
Once rooted, move the ROM to your root folder (sdcard/ )
Hold down power + Vol down, release power at the splash (still holding VD).
select recovery
select to install from zip
reboot after flashing

No need to root first. Also, you need CWM recovery before you can install the zip.
So, what you really need to do is:
1) Use Odin to flash CWM recovery (to get to download mode, hold power + vol down until you see a screen with two pictures - right one is download, left one is recovery. You select one by pressing vol up)
2) Plug the Tab into your PC or use a sharing program to copy the Overcome zip file to /sdcard/ of your device (it's the root directory if you open it up on windows, where folders like "Movies", "Downloads", "Pictures" etc. are).
3) Go to recovery, wipe data to insure a clean install, then proceed to flash the .zip
4) Give it a few minutes for first boot
Also, you might want to take a backup before you flash Overcomes .zip, just to be safe and if you ever want to go back to your original stock
All needed files can be found in the thread.
PS: Also, Overcome comes prerooted, so after flashing you'll have root. Make sure to run Superuser once before you try to give root to anything though.
Thank you so much both of you for the quick and informative answers.
Nightmarebadger.
Can you briefly explain how I flash with Odin correctly?
Do I only need the file called 002002-Overcome_CWM_Recovery_v5.1.2.6.zip, when flashing or to I need to include other files as well?
wouldnt you need to change the kernal too?
Follow the guide in the dev section I referenced.... after you have CWR (or overstocks) you can then flash the ROM.
Doesn't flashing a modded firmware with odin effect your flashcounter

Now I'm not 100% on this because it's been a while since I flashed CWM on my Tab so you might want to look up some guides or wait for someone else to explain it step by step.
First of all if you want to flash via Odin you need the .tar file, not the .zip one. You might even be able to flash the .zip with the stock recovery, but I wouldn't know (I didn't try it that way and the guide I was using said to use Odin). Here comes the part that I'm not really sure about - where exactly do you need to put the .tar - [Edit] seems you need to put it under PDA
And even though Overcome comes with their version of CWM recovery, a "normal" one should do the trick also - so you can just follow one of the guides on the net to put that one on your tab. When you flash Overcome ROM it'll also flash their version of CWM anyway.
As for the kernel, Overcome comes with stock kernel - if you want anything extra (OC for instance) you will want to flash pershoots kernel with CWM.
I'm grateful for all the help you guys have been giving.
For future reference how to use Odin is right here :
Flashing a Custom Recovery●►
Go into the same root folder as before.
Double click the root application named "Odin3_v1.85.exe"
Select PDA
Double click the clockworkmod recovery file labeled "recovery-cwm_4.0.0.4-sam-tab-10.1.tar.md5" to select it.
Click Start
Once it is complete, you can close the program
The root folder comes from a root.zip which is located in this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239185
I give flashing a go. Thanks again for your help
Has anybody tried flashing Overcome ROM on SGH-T859?
So my Galaxy Tab 10.1 GT-P7500R is stuck in a bootloop. I followed the instructions from this website: http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-tab-10-1-3g-4g-p7500-root-50789/
"- Download the kernel update file (kernel.zip) from here and save it to your computer.
- Download the recovery update file (recovery.zip) from here and save it to your computer.
- Copy both files to the root directory of your tablet’s storage. You may need to connect your tablet to your PC via USB cable to be able to do this.
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
- Reboot your tablet into recovery mode, as follows:
Press and hold both the Volume Down and Power buttons on your tablet.
Release the two buttons when you see the two icons on the screen.
Use the Volume Down button to navigate between the icons.
Highlight the icon on the left (box).
Press the Volume Up button to select it and boot into recovery mode.
- From the recovery menu, select “Install zip from sdcard.” Then, select “Choose zip from sdcard” and select “kernel.zip” from the list. Confirm that you want to flash the file. Repeat this step for “recovery.zip”.
- Go back to main recovery menu and select “Reboot system now.”
I did the update for the 10.1 4G as stated - just two files to put on the root of your internal memory (kernel and recovery files). Using the recovery option - first flash kernel then flash recovery - then select reboot. Now I have a tablet that appears to be in a boot loop. It just comes up to the Tablet name for a few seconds - screen glows for a while and then the tablet name comes back and the screen goes dark for a minute and then the cycle repeats.
I can still access download mode. Could I use odin to install the stock ROM. If I can does anyone have the stock Rogers Rom (GT-P7500R)?

Hi All
First of I would like to thank you all for having me on your forum.
Second, I live in South Africa, I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and my service provider is Vodacom.
I am trying to root my device.
I did manage to get into the "Downloading" Mode and using Odin I managed to install the "clockworkmod"
The next step is to boot into recovery mode (Press and hold Volume Up, Home Button & Power Button) but my S3 does not want to go into recovery mode. When I follow the steps it freezes on The Galaxy Logo.
I really want to root my device to use ALL of the awesome stuff you guys develop.
Thank You in advance.
Only hold vol up + home + power until you see the white galaxy s3 writing then release

Hi
Thank You for the Reply.
I did only hold it down until the logo pops up and then I released.
It still freezes. I have tried holding it in for longer.
I have checked the net and came across different methods and that did not work.
Could it be that Vodacom changed how it goes into recovery mode?
I would say flash an open fw through Odin. *2767*3855# to clean phone from obsolete data. Make sure to backup what you need. Flash CF through Odin.
Boot to recovery through cwm app.

put device in download mode by pressing vol down+home+ power on, press vol up to acknowlede the warning.
connect device. before pressing Start make sure nothing from Kies program is running.
press start.
wait till it is over and phone reboots.
then *2767*3855#

Thank You all Very Much for the help and input.:good:
Just a question: What would you say is the best performance, Stable ROM out there?
Thank You
You are welcome. I am on wanamlite 1.5 and ninphetamine 1.2.0 kernel. Very good battery and as always wanam makes very stable and bug free roms.

just try and read some before flashing. and Always search the XDA forum for what you want. do not expect everything always from someone.
remember to read everything before trying to flash and always backup backup backup.
i do not use rom manager for flashing and backup. in Clockworkmod I Trust!!! lol

I can go into recovery mode, when I click on reboot system now, its not powering on??
Ok so go easy on me please. I hadn't slept in two days ! so I was in the process of reloading Beans but when I was backing up and wiping this and that I stupidly decided to wipe internal and external SDs so I wiped my beans rom zip and so I can install it or anything. I am able to get to the TWRP. Is it a matter of just loading the zip to my microsd and installing it that way ? Please tell me it is . Also is there a way if I did this again to boot the note 2 normally so I can access the internet to download the zip that way or it doesn't work that way with android ? Thanks so much for all your help !!!
Sorry. I meant to say I can't install it
If you can get your micro sd card into your computer, via card reader or old phone, download your rom onto that. That's probably the easiest route. For the future, it's a great idea to keep a nandroid backup saved on your hard drive for times like these.
Did you format system? If not then yes your phone will turn on normally. If you did as the last guy said download to your computer and in twrp i believe there is an option to use your phone as storage or just grab a card reader. Basically just get it in your micro sd somehow then flash normally.

Ok initially I was able to boot into YWRP but after I downloaded the Beans rom to my microsd card and tried to flash it on my phone It would not flash at all and now it won't even boot to TWRP. It's stuck on ODIN mode and I was unable to unlock bootloader and see if I can then get into TWRP. Was that not necessary ? Is my only alternative now to get my phone back to stock ? If so how do I do that exactly ? I really need help I'm sorry !

Have you pulled the battery and tried holding vol + home and power to get into twrp. You shouldn't be stuck in download mode.

Yes I've tried that but didn't change anything

I would say just Odin to stock and start over

Ok omg I did that but now after I root and unlock the bootloader when I try to flash Beans rom 7 which is on my microsd it says failed and it says it can't read zip. Last time I flash beans rom I believe it was on my internal. Should it matter and if not what can I do to fix this ? Also isn't there a way to root and unlock the bootloader but not have to flash a rom but instead reboot back so the phone is useable and not on the TWRP screen ? Thanks !!
I'm sorry for all the questions. It's just frustrating to have done it right the first time then mess up and get it working to a point than cant complete the fix. I have it back to stock but why is it when I try to root it with either version of odin it passes and seems to work but I don't see SU and I don't have root as ive tested it by opening free version of titanium back up. No root. Also after returning stock I can download the paid version of titanium back up but there is no link to open it ? omg
Sorry I should have said I can't download it. It acts like its downloaded but no link to open it appears in the play store screen nor does it appear anywhere on the phone
I'd just try this method of rooting if your back to stock or is this the one you used ??

These are the steps I did. Sorry am reviewing to see if it's the same as I type
Step 1. Turn your Verizon Note 2 power off. Then hold down the Volume Down, Center Home, and the Power buttons simultaneously for about 3 seconds until you see a warning screen.
Step 2. Next, hit Volume Up to enter ODIN Download Mode and connect a microUSB cable from your phone to computer.
Step 3. Download the root-injected stock firmware and ODIN:
Download root-injected system firmware for Verizon Galaxy Note 2
Download ODIN
Unzip both files, you should get a file ending in “tar.md5″ and two files for ODIN.
Step 4. Run the odin3 v1.85.exe program by double-clicking on it.
Step 5. You should see a yellow highlighted box with a random COM number. If you don’t, install Samsung USB drivers and repeat from Step 1.
Choose “PDA” and select the root-injected firmware file ending in “tar.md5″.
Step 6. Hit the “Start” button and ODIN will start flashing the root-injected system firmware to your Verizon Note 2.
Step 7. When done successfully, you will see “PASS!”.
just go to the link i posted and watch video and read it's incredibly easy from the looks of it. it should root unlock and install twrp. especially if you somehow took the OTA
But if we could can we go back to my previous questions. I was able to unlock bootloader and I believe root it in one process and I got to the TWRP screen but when I try to go to install and I choose the beans rom on my microsd it says failed then in small print it says can't read zip file. Do I need to do something different or is there a fix to this problem ? Last time when I was successful I believe my rom was downloaded directly from my phone. And if it was is there a way to root/unlock bootloader but reboot back to where the phone is useable and flash a rom at a later time ? Thanks for all your patience and help !

You probably have a bad download. If you're on twrp then you're unlocked already. Re download beans and try that one.
By the way you should be able to boot normally after following the unlock thread. All it does is unlock and change the recovery

I really appreciate all your help!! I will try both of your suggestions!! As far as being on TWRP and booting normally is it just choosing reboot on the TWRP screen or just powering the phone off and than back on? Thanks!!!
