Xron is Android, not WebOS.
If you go to any Android build you can get the AI tablet keyboard from market with select/copy/paste shortcuts available by holding "C".

i posted this before i puton xron when i wanted to stay webos.
i asked bout xron for suggs about android keyboards.
some apps -- google docs for example-- will not paste w/o actual ctrl+v..
not even from edit menu-- says that browser doesnt support clipboard etc..
i do try xron now but have huuge wifi probs..
thanx

I'm running Alpha 3.5 instead of xron, never had any wifi issues besides having to turn it on after a reboot.
I just verified that the keyboard I mentioned allows you to select/copy/cut/paste in Google docs.

I can't stand the CM7 keyboard

On hyperdroid cm7 for hd2 the board is so much easier and better. How can I use thay keyboard on my atrix? Portrait mode is very poor on the atrix stock cm7 camera. Can you help?
THANKS
Download a different one, there are only about a hundred on the market.

I already downloaded like 20 different ones and they all don't work at all. I enabled them and tried to use them in dolphin mini and messaging and by simply holding the keyboard pop up button. It only activates the stock cm7 keyboard. I went into keyboard options and selected the keyboards and when I go to messaging and open keyboard it's the cm7 one. When i press the settings key it only shows the cm7 keyboard...
thanks
You have to long press a text box and choose input method... this is fundamental android options...

Yes, I'm fully aware of that function. However the only method that is allowed is the default keyboard option. Know of a specific keyboard app that is bigger, nicer, ans easier than the stock cm7 keyboard that works on all system apps and dolphin mini?
Thanks
First "Enable" then "Long Press" ...If your phone cant enable more keyboards, you might as well throw it out the window for an iPhone now.
My CM7 has like 5 different working keyboards

Please don't take this the wrong way...
If you download a keyboard.. for example the "Gingerbread Keyboard" from the market, (Which is the one I use and looks much nicer than stock and is resizable to fit your needs). Then you go into the settings menu and enable this keyboard from the Language/Keyboard options menu. Then you go into a text message or something and longpress --> input method.. you WILL see two keyboards there, one Android keyboard, and the other will be your downloaded keyboard...
If you choose the downloaded one, it will systematically
change your keyboard across all apps within android to that one...
This is what I was speaking of... and this WILL do what you are asking...
If this is not clear please let me know..
^^ What a nice guy you are

Just tried downloading gingerbread keyboard. It says package file was not signed correctly. I'll try closing market and try again. I'm running the latest cm7 for the atrix.
Thanks
I installed hackers keyboard and it doesn't show up in the input method list. Trust me i've done this so many countless times on none cm7 roms. Just never tried it in cm7. I believe it will not work. I don't like that comment above where the guy seems frustrated explaining it to me. I already know exactly what to do. I am doing everything 100% correctly. However because of the fault of cm7, will not allow any other input method other than stock to show up in the input method field. Please confirm.

By any chance have you flashed any kernels?
May be that if so...
Also, try reinstalling the rom if it's not too much trouble..
My last time I loaded CM7.. certain widgets would never show up in the widgets list...but after I flashed a second time, it would work.. Its real finicky.

Not frustrated, just *Confused* When you go into "Settings-->Launguage and Keyboard" after you install a new keyboard, do you see your new keyboard there and if so is it checked?
I have never had or heard of this issue, that was my only concern.

I figured out what I was doing wrong. I have to only select 1 keyboard at a time even know it lets u select several at once. Kind of weird. Anyway Gingerbread fixall is pretty damn solid and I like it a lot. Not quite as amazing as the keyboard on Hyperdroid HD2 roms but it's a lot better than stock.
THANKS BRO
BTW - I pulled the latinIME.apk from the Hyperdroid hd2 rom and corrected permissions and I get force closes after reboot. Maybe it's because it's not QHD so it simply won't work. I wonder how easy it would be to port it over? I really love how that hyperdroid hd2 keyboard looks and it's the easiest to use.

I noticed that if the keyboard installs as the same name as a keyboard you already have it will only show one when you long press. I have found that if your third keyboard has a unique name it will show as a third choice ... but I'm glad you got it worked out, I like the qhd one in my last post, it installs as 3vo keyboard and is kinda awesome transparent!

Hehe, I was thinking the same thing, but decided to just download them all and take a look myself. Install is super easy: download, select like any app install, done!
Then just see sublime's post for the instruction on enabling them. Cycling through them all took like 10 seconds.

[Q] Browser button on dock without stock browser

I don't know how to change the row of buttons at the top of the keyboard, but you can create your own custom shortcuts to launch applications:
http://www.androidsupernova.com/2011/12/create-custom-shortcuts-with-asus-eee.html
Search+b launches browser already, but you can change it to launch whatever application you want (including a different browser).

I must be blind..Where is the browser button. I assume you don't mean the normal browser Icon because that will open the original browser (regardless of your default).
When I hit the google search I am asked what browser to open (I haven't set a default browser yet)
If you want that default browser icon for Browser+ then I think you may be able to just change the Browser+ Icon

Automatic Keyboard Switcher App

As far as I'm aware nothing like this currently exists, and it's become all the more desirable with devices such as the transformer/prime. I keep my keyboard set to the Asus keyboard to ensure complete compatibility with the dock, but when I undock it I prefer to use Swype. It would be awesome if there was an app/setting that could detect the dock and change my input settings accordingly.
+1
Nice one. Just half an hour ago i was looking for the same thing without finding anything... This would help i imagine something that is automated or with a widget for the desktop. So I can plug in the dock hit the widget and the IME is switched.
Btw I think this is my first xda post written with the transformer prime. OMG this is sooo good!!!
I need this app too
But this App requires root, I think. It is impossible to change the standard keyboard programmatically.
see here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3916184/android-set-default-keyboard
As a UK user the need is equally as acute even basic symbols (£, @ etc.) are on different positions on UK keyboards. The dock has them in the correct place, but use anything other than the Asus software keyboard and the whole thing gets messed up!
theres a wii mote app i used on my PoV Mobii that changes to selected keyboard on disconnect without the need for root...
Tasker?
I have yet to venture into tasker on the tablet yet but I am guessing you could get it done with this app. Very functional automation tool for android.

Here is my a little bit more permanent solution:

This includes changing /system files, so you need to be rooted.

Behold! Keyboard manager! The app you seek!
You'll have to search the market for "keyboard manager" since I'm not allowed to post links yet...
Recently open-sourced, but not before the author added support for hardware keyboard detection. I had to dock/undock a couple times after activating the app to get everything peachy. Be sure to select the keyboard you want for all 3 options - portrait, landscape, and hardware. This DOES require ROOT.

If you try it and it doesn't work as expected then let me know. I don't have a keyboarddock myself but I've tested the app on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 with both Bluetooth and USB keyboards (swedish layout) with Android 3.1, 3.2 and 4.0.3 (CM9).
I'd be surprised if it does not work with the keyboard-dock.

Yap, and guess what:
I couldn't get it to work in QWERTZ mode. Even with the software it kept a QWERTY-keyboard.
Same with the original Samsung bluetooth keyboard cover - no way. Btw: The USB-host-adapter I've got wasn't working either with ICS-Kang.
So, I switched back to Task650 v.14.

It should work. Perhaps you did not switch input method to External Keyboard Helper?
The only devices that I know of that it does not seem to work on is Xperia devices when using USB keyboard. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 myself and it works with stock 3.1 and 3.2 and CM9. I also use it on my Motorola Xoom with stock 3.2.

Sounds like a kernel issue with the release you are using. I can use USB attached keyboard, mouse, etc with CyanogenMod 9 on my Galaxy 8.9 and I'm using a slightly modified version of the 10.1 kernel that is used in CM9 for the Galaxy 10.1. USB keyboard should work with if you build CM9 from the official repos.
There are some nightlys here for the 10.1 wifi: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=p4wifi
hi there,
i just downloaded the demo app of keyboard helper to try if it works.. i have the galaxy tab 10.1 keyboard dock.
well let's say it works quiet well with the german layout.
but what's keeping me from spending those 2€ on the pro version is, that it does not support all the special keys on the dock.. or i'm not able to correctly assign the keycodes...
ok, these special keys are not working by default:
* 'Home' Button
* 'App Switch' Button - you know, the one which would show all the open apps, like the softkey button right to the home button in ICS roms.
* 'Darker' & 'Brighter' buttons
* 'Mute' Button
* 'App Drawer' Button
I don't know if this is a ROM issue, but after enabling the custom layout and playing around with the key mappings I only got the 'Home' button working again..
I didn't find an option for brighten or darken the display, nor does the mute keycode work on my ROM..
If there's an keycode for the app drawer or the app switch, i must be blind, because I didn't find it..
hopefully you can implement the missing functionality! I want to use my keyboard dock to it's full extend
btw: i'm using AOKP build 24 (i know, it's old)

[Q] 4.2 keyboard on CM10 (FXP149)

Hello! I am the only one, who can't manage to get a working gesture typing 4.2 keyboard on FXP CM10? I flashed several ZIPs and installed APKs but none of them worked with gesture typing. The keyboard itself works perfectly, but the swipe function doesn't want to.
Why don't you download the apps like swype or swiftkey as they might offer the functions you need and also some keyboards support themes so you can apply themes on them...
Hope I helped,
Regards,
Abhinav

After all these tries, I tried swype and swiftkey too. Both of them quite good, but they eat a lot of memory (~30MB) beside the original android keyboard. But now I removed some not too important apps and kept only swype (beta). I will see how it works, thanks.

Yes ofc, I checked, unchecked the gesture typing and reboot several times, nothing. But now I am quite well with this Swype keyboard (except the +30MB ram use). Thanks guys

You can look here for the xperia sx keyboard that also has swipe but I am not sure if it has mdpi support: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33774862&postcount=1404 and the portal has a story on a new swipe keyboard that you may want to try: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/kii-keyboard-offers-free-alternative-to-swype-and-swiftkey/
If you really want the 4.2 keyboard, then pm me and I will send you the one that is working on my device.
Sorry for the previous post about making sure you turned on the features of the keyboard...it is just one of those things that frequently gets over looked
is it possible to compile the 4.2 keyboard from sources or is it a gapp now? if it can be compiled, can it be backported to 4.1?
It's already out there, both for stock and aosp, but i had the same problem with gesture not working. I'm using the xperia s and it works fine. Swipe and swiftkey eat ridiculous amounts of ram and also do random connections, i stopped using them after very little..
I went looking for where I originally downloaded the 4.2 keyboard. It was from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1964663
There are 2 zips, one that contains just the apk and that one is working for me on a ST18i, but mrmako777 also has a version in case the apk alone doesn't work and also contains a required lib file. So if the apk alone isn't working, maybe you can try the 2nd zip in his post.
yeah but i would like to compile it from source, and yes, Swipe and swiftkey eat ridiculous amounts of ram.
