Hello all,
First off, thanks to everyone involved in the creation of this awesome ROM for the Streak. Finally a stable Gingerbread ROM for the Streak!
Now, on to the issue. Having finally been convinced to try out the Firefox Sync feature again (the first time it well and truly failed) I had set up my desktop and installed Firefox for Android via the App Market. Then, lo and behold, upon starting it up rather than the standard Google start screen I was expecting the entirety of the text on the app was replaced with a large selection of random symbols rather than the standard Latin alphabet. This, obviously, has rendered the application rather useless to me. I can confirm, through the languages screen (reached via random stabs at keys on the option menu), that only Latin characters are affected with the other alphabets seemingly untroubled.
Can anyone suggest what the problem is or how it may be fixed?
I'm getting that same issue. It has something to do with Firefox detecting region and language upon first time opening. I'm pretty sure it can be fixed thru build.prop and changing region but since I'm not familiar with any of that maybe someone else can help us. Instead of Firefox I'm using opera n dolphin hd but I really wanna try firefox

This is caused by the font used in GingerStreak 2.4.4 and it was mentioned by Steve, that he wouldn't change it since only Firefox seems affected.
2.4.2 has the stock android fonts, replace DroidSans.ttf and DroidSansBold.ttf in /system/fonts/, reboot and you should be good.
P.S. The problem with firefox was discussed in the announce thread for 2.4.4, so you should really there first, before posting a separate thread.
Thanks for the solution, but unfortunately that failed. Every time I replaced the files using root explorer my Streak failed to boot after restarting (getting stuck on the BIOS screen/Android animation on the Gingerstreak stock boot)!
I also tried replacing the files in the install zip with the ones you suggested and reflashing the OS without any success.

That is odd, i never had a problem after swapping out the fonts. Have you tried deleting the old files and then copying the new ones, instead of overwriting?

I ran across an old thread looking for info on how to read e-books from other sources other than BN. The old thread was about installing downloaded apk files and how to get them to work. I tried everything but was unable to complete the action so I'm starting a new thread to ask the questions. Sorry if the subj has been beat to death but I just joined and really need the info.
I have a Nook Tablet version 1.4.3 and when I try to installed a apk app I get the error (process com.android.browser) has stopped unexpectedly....
I'm getting this error all the time now. When I first tried downloading aldiko.apk reader, I went to the download icon in the left corner and it would say install and install with packet manager, or something like that. I picked packet manager but nothing would happen. I tried powering off/on and then trying it but all i get now when I try to install the apps is it asking me to open with Quickoffice Lite or Reader. Is it not going to work for me or am I doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated
I believe sideloading .apk files was blocked by one of B&N's OTA updates (1.4.1 or one of those).
And I'm not certain, but you might be able to install the .apk files manually using ADB.

They're blocked unless you have a rooted nook, and even then it won't load correctly into the nook launcher because their own installer is still blocking unknown sources.
As per this post stickied in the General forum, all questions are to be posted in this Q&A forum not in General.
Thanks

I remember having this issue since ICS and on multiple devices running different ROMs.
What gives? I know the solution is to clear out the Download history and it still works. Just annoying that I have to do that... Does Google know about this issue??
You can also try using a browser like Opera, that helps me. But yeah it really is annoying it also happens to me both on GB and ICS

To be able to download certain files, you must first have an application that can run the file. If you don't have the ablity to run the file it will refuse to download, giving the download unsuccessful message.
What you say may be true. But the files I download are definitely openable. Yet they still don't download successfully until after multiple attempts or clearing the cache.

Hello everyone -- First post
I don't know if this will help, but i tell you what i experienced yesterday. I have both a HP Touchpad 32GB Wifi only and a Samsung Fascinate. I have the problem with both of them for months now. I can install anything i want from Google Play, but can not down load any other files, both from emails and websites. I can write to it with Window XP Pro machine.
Two days ago i was messing around with my Touchpad dual boot WebOS/CM7 and wreck it. Wouldn't reboot, couldn't run WebOS doctor on it or any thing. I thought it was bricked. Then i ran across a forum how to delete the volume manually and recreate them. Then install back to factory original.
Last night i got it back to 3.0.5 and installed CM9 tenderloin nightly 20121028 dual boot. First think i did was go to a website to down load a PDF file to see if this fix my download problem. File downloaded, i tried opening it, said no file associate. Jump into Google Market , installed reader, open the file, no problem. I started checking with ROM Manager for any nightly updates. There was one and i started downloading it, and moved on to installing Titanium Backup plus Root. Few minutes after dubbing around, checking CM9.I noticed that it had a download error. SO i jumped on to another website to download another file. Immediately <Untitled> Download Unsuccessful. Here we go again. Switch over to Google Market, Titanium Backup plus Root finished installing.
I remove it and root. Check to see if it fixed the problem. NOPE! still no downloading. This morning at work during break, I wiped CM9 out with ACMEUnistaller, and started over. Same install as before. No problem downloading any files so far, but i have not reinstalled Titanium Backup plus Root. I will install it tonight just to be sure and redo my Samsung Fascinate to see if i can reproduces the same results there with CM10.
Can someone else that is having the same problem confirm with their system and see if they get same result?
Not so
Sorry guys, I just reinstalled Titanium Backup plus and can not repeat it. I'll keep checking with everything that I install and any settings I change
You may have better luck with the Touchpad forum.

Its not just my touchpad that is having the same issue. My Samsung fascinate have the issue and it has CM10 nightly. I've search many forum site for this problem. There are many other that are having the issue with all different devices and ROM's. I
I'm currently trying to repeat on touchpad because if i mess this unit up it won't be a big deal for me. I have got it down 25 minutes or ever less removing the CM and reload it. Not so fast for me on the Samsung. So far unsuccessful repeating it. Going to try repairing Fascinate and on it.
You think this should be moved to another thread? If so please let me know.
Thanks in advance
FYI, if you change the name of the original Download folder to, say Download_old, then try the download again, it will create a new folder and download to that one. weirdly, the folder permissions are exactly the same for both folders after (rwxrwxr-x)
This has been bothering me lately. When I open my Instagram (using xperia ray latest Gingerbread stock ROM), and go to "Photo Maps", a dialog box appears saying "Photo Maps requires that the Google Maps Android API is installed on your device
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both Google Maps and Instagram, I restarted my device too. But it doesnt solve the problem.
I tried checking /system/framework/com.google.android.maps.jar , I thought I lost this file but the file is there..
This is a rare problem and I only found 2 search results on Google about this problem, and both were found on XDA forum. One had his problem solved by placing this .jar file there. The other one tried placing the .jar file but no luck.
It's bothering me. Because I think it will affect other application that uses google maps. But I'm not sure. And I don't want to reinstall the whole ROM because I have partitioned my SD card, put many stuff in it, I dont want to start it all over just because of this small problem.
Thank you very much in advanced.
I am having the same problem, but it has caused me to realize that I cannot download most things that have a main function that utilises the gmaps API... I'm running a CM9 fork, though, so I expect that to be the cause. Furthermore, I tried to replace the files and gapps installation through recovery, it yields no changes. I see no new files, which is odd imo... Placing the JAR through a file manager and rebooting doesn't change anything for me either. Would love a followup because I too have seen the threads Fun is talking about but I have also seen at least a dozen on here that have gone unanswered
yes. Someone has to got to have the solution. So bump.
bump... i guess? I havent been able to fix this. Althoug a simple flash will fix this, I'm curious that we can fix this.
Still having this issue myself.
Running CM10.1 on my Galaxy SII (i9100P), although its not just with my current ROM that I'm having the issue. Tried refladhing ROMs and GAPPS but no joy. Countless data/cache wipes have done notjing to fix it. Also tried the.jar solution but did nothing.
Really annoys me that I can't find a solution.
No one any ideas on what this could be?
i have a dopo (double power) d7015, the about tablet says the model is d7018. i've messed it up and didn't make a backup... does anyone have ANY info on these tablets? like if it is a rebranded other model? or any roms i can flash to it? i've tried putting 2 different roms on through the built in recovery, but it fails and says no more space on device.
originally i played with the advanced install of busybox installer, and that started problems... first thing i noticed was the 0 total internal space... i restored to factory settings, but the problem persisted and it wouldn't obtain an ip address, so i input it manually and could use the browser... but it was all pretty moot because of the messed up internal storage. i tried to adb shell into it, and was told that /system/bin/sh didn't exist... i found a binary online and pushed it, then could open a shell...
then i noticed that busybox was still in xbin, and i read in a forum that busybox being in /system/xbin could cause mount issues, and recommended to copy the binary into /system/bin. after that the internal storage showed properly, but wifi wouldn't even turn on.
i've tried reversing the process but can't get wifi to turn on at all... from what i've gathered in forums, most people upon getting into this situation flashed and all was well... but i can't find a stock rom for the tablet, or any other rom that's worked in my efforts...
i guess the main things i had in mind are either a stock rom i can use with the recovery that came on it, or another rom and a little help getting it on there... last flashing experience i really had was with my neo freerunner a while back...
but ANY help would be appreciated greatly!
thank you in advance!
still nothing? gonna try digging around for something again... if i find anything i'll update. i finally got my tablet going, but with pretty regular problems. now it seems like there's bad sectors in either the cache or data partitions because after i get so far into getting all my apps on there (from store) gplay services and account management and all types of other stuff starts force closing constantly... it's pretty maddening. i've had the most luck only installing a bare minimum of apps and only using it for browsing reddit and other small stuff, but before all the trouble i could do so much more!
totally given up on the dopo tablet... if anyone find something please post here!
