First I want to thank everyone for all the good info, tutorials, and custom firmware.
I have noticed a very faint grid and dots on the screen, or between the glass and LCD. You have to catch it in the light just right to see it. I assume it is part of the capacitive touch hardware but just wanted to ask if anyone else noticed it or could explain exactly what it is. I have not seen anything like it on any other touch screen devices I have.
Yes I searched the forum before I posted this...
Thanks!

That's normal. The dots are built into the digitizer. I assume they are used to determine where your finger is being pressed. My Droid 2 has them too. I don't see them unless I'm really looking for them, and normally I got so many fingerprints on the screen already that I don't see the dots.
Thanks for the quick reply.

Ipad has the same thing
My Archos 101 has then as well. Not really as bad when the unit is on. At least to me.
Just an FYI...
I put my iPad, iPhone, gtablet, and my wife's droid all side by side same lighting and viewing angle and the gtablet is the only one that has the visible grid and dots.
That is why I posted the question.

grid dots on mine too!
I know this posting is old, but just wanted to say my g-tab has the same visable grid dots. I was going to take it back thinking it was just a lemon, but now that I see this I wont. This is the only posting I see that anyone has acknowledged this. I wonder if its all g tabs or just a bad batch.....

Not a bad batch. the small reflective dots are part of the digitizer that registers touch input. On some devices it may be harder to see, but I assure you, they are there. I noticed them on both my Milestone and Nexus One.
I think that there are two kinds of capacitive screens. I had to return the first GTab bought in November because the micro SD card slot was not working. That one did not have any lines or dots. When I received the replacement one in January, I noticed the dots immediately. But well.. this one can keep the micro sd card in it's place!!
Has anyone noticed visible dots when the screen is on? I just got a replacement gtab and noticed the dots on a white background. They are shimmering dots - similar to when dust is on the screen...
Perhaps a screen protector would help? I saw the grid when the tablet was off on my old one too... but never when it was on like this...

yes, i can still see them, when the screen is ON, so whats the update here?
i just bought my galaxy s2 today , but i noticed a strange circular spot on the lower right side of the screen, it is visible in gray or other dark background and is not affected by the brightness settings. should i get it replaced
Hard to be certain without a photo, but it sounds like a mark from the suction cup used to attach the screen - a few people have reported this, unfortunately. There are photos somewhere in the forum, can't seem to find them at the mo...
If so, yes - return it immediately.
i cant post a pic because im a new member, but thanks for the rep

sai4u - From another thread, suction mark in top right. Look like yours?
yes, i have the exact same problem
Shame. I'd return it, definitely.
Same issue, white circle in the lower right side of the screen, size of a coin, visible only on a grey background, just like the yellow left side issue. Doesn't bother me in real life usage, but still...
il get it replaced immediately, many thanks for the reply

I too have this same problem unfortunately, I asked for replacement but currently phones out of stock here, Waiting for new stock Impatiently.
Was it easy for u to get it replaced ?
my friend got it. hopefully she can get a new one.
Mine is not this prominent though, I dont see it on such dark backgrounds...God knows how many pieces have it, and the fate of replaced piece.
Could be a remnant from production process and oleophobic coating. Glass parts are mostly transported by suction cups and this might leave this "mark" ...........
i also have a light spot on my phone which appears on gray or slightly dark backgrounds. it's on the left side. it does not appear to be the same thing as the one on previous pictures. it's as small as a dot which can be made by a marker.

Maybe you are talking about the white spot in default internet browser. It is located in the left lower corner. It is normal and it's there for hardware acceleration. Check to see if you have dead pixels, if the white spot only appears in default browser than your phone is ok.
mine appears all the time (provided that the background colors are gray and of the same shade). also, the spot is on the top-middle portion (portrait mode) of the phone. example, it reading SMS conversations, background is gray right? i can see the light spot there. i would post a picture but i'm still new to the forum.
Hi.
Mine have that exact circle too =/ .
So, you say it is not burn in ? i was thinking maybe that was because the weather widget sun.
Since im out of warranty i m thinking in open and cleaning it, what do you think ? would be that possible ?

It would be possible for sure, but would be also a big mistake.
It's a hardware issue, not a dust one.

Hey there. After reading a few threads on various sites as well as on XDA-Developers I decided to make this thread. I have recently got a new Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100P on Orange UK) and I realized that underneath the screen there seem to be small dots. At first I realized this under direct light from a desk lamp, the dot on the top middle of the screen can only be seen under direct light at a certain angle, it looks like there's something on the actual glass because it seems to reflect making two dots in the same area. After doing further research I have found out that other people have been having similar problems, I also realized that under different angles I can actually find more of these dots around the screen when I look very close.
This does not seem to affect the screen at all whether it's on or off, it can only be seen when looking really close, with direct light pointing onto the screen and under certain angles.
Upon further research I ended up testing the screen with a black background in a completely dark room and I saw even more strange things which I'm not exactly sure how to explain, something that looks like lines all over the screen. I then read about people who've been using a sleeping app on which this issue was even more visible. I downloaded such an app and realized that in pure darkness the screen when it dims out with the app on does have weird lines and isn't pure black. The lines are black whereas he background is more of a really dark grey colour that glows. It's hard to explain, especially when your in a rush so I will throw up two images that describe the issue.
Issue 1: Dots
oi43.tinypic.com/21dk1ft.jpg
This is an example of the dots which can only be seen in direct light under certain angles.
Issue 2: Lines?
oi44.tinypic.com/2jg2xsi.jpg
This is something along the lines of what I see in a completely dark room on a black background or when the Sleep app is on a dimmed screen. The black lines are black whereas the background, the rest of the area that looks clean, looks sort of greyish and on the sleep app with a dimmed screen it looks like the grey area is glowing like one of them glow sticks.
Any ideas? Is this normal? So far this hasn't affected me in any way apart from the fact that I've noticed it, but then again I notice all sorts of imperfections in everything. Should I be worried? Could this affect the screen in the future? I've heard some people exchanged their SGS2's for new ones and still had the same problem? If this is normal, I guess I can live with it?
Thanks for your time.
Bump. Has anyone got any ideas suggestions?

Sorry mate Ive tried but I still cant open them, and I have been trying
Capture screenshot
Try using Home button + Power it should take a picture then atleast here its working
Dear XPS users,
Well I got bored and i was just starring at my phone LOL i dont know why but yea.
Anyway i notice that my phone's screen isnt really centered. how?
check your middle captivate button (the home button) and try moving your eyes up (aligning) with the app icon in the center.
it doesnt really bother me but i also notice that my menu LED is kind of dimmer than the other two -.- well this is my second XPS with no yellow tint issue. im not returning this to take another risk.
anyway how many of you notice your screen isnt that centered?
I just had a look at this and nope mine is centred perfectly I also measured up to the middle dot at the top of the screen and is also aligned fine.
Measure the gap between the dots and tell me what you get I am interested to know haha
okay for me:
from left side to left dot: 1.1cm
from left dot to middle dot: 1.96cm
from middle dot to right dot: 1.98cm
form right dot to right side: 1.2cm
obviously some human error in that...man I must be really booooored!
Just looked..
It seems to be in center...
Mine aligned perfectly.
12W15 ABAE
Nice n centred on mine too

how about a survey thread?
but mine also is perfectly in the middle...
I dont know can you guys see well. the pictures may or may not illustrate that clearly but having the phone in my hands i can see it no doubt.
Like even bringing up the menu settings on the homescreen you could already tell they dont align.
pictures below.
and also i see that the weather widget is a bit moved towards the left side.
the last picture. you could also see that my menu LED light is dimmer than the other two.
again im not being picky or anything just pointing things out. im a artist so i do see stuff when its a bit off lol i cant help it.
My weather widget is aligned and so are my buttons.
It could be that your head may be on a little crooked (joking!) but I'm sorry I really don't see it. I do see the bubble on your screen protector though, and that would annoy me more than a suspected 1/2mm off symbol. My lights are also the same brightness

..lol he is right. The dot is slightly to the right, but not very noticeably. I really don't care, one does not notice under normal circumstances..

LOL i applied the screen p on myself. well it was free and messed up the first time. :l better than nothing.
anyway im sorry i cant hold my camera still but im being super serious.
maybe we should have a XPS gathering sometime soon LOL
Why guess with your eyes when they can be tricked easily, I just checked mine with a ruler, mine aligns up perfectly.
Middle should be 3.1cm's (from glass screen edge) from top to bottom with everything including software and hardware aligning correctly.

I think I'm the newest member of xda and boy am i glad to be here!
Bought my S3 a week back and to be frank I was both glad and slightly disappointed. Most of the flaws I faced have already been discussed. Facing lag issues and call drops. Plus the Wifi connectivity is not all that great.
But all in all I'm a happy customer and glad I took this decision.
It all changed today though. When I came back home, I noticed a few odd blotches on the screen which were not there till yesterday. The odded thing is that cleaning the screen gets rid of them but when I smudge the screen with my finger they come right back. There are about 7 of them in the shape of a 'X'. Sizes range from 1mm to 2mm across but they are just too hard to ignore. Have attached a picture. They appear white in direct light and when viewed perpendicularly turn into pitch black, the kind of black sAMOLED is famous for. They disappear on turning on the screen. Kind of look like bubbles of air but are probably not as they go away on cleaning the screen. I mean they totally disappear, merging into the darkness of the screen. What do you propose I do??
And there is no screen guard over the screen at the moment. Just using a Capdase silicone shell.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

return it? and use the search button. there is already such thread open in the general section.
How deep to the marks appear to be? Near the surface, or under the glass?
Did you have anything in your pocket that could have pressed against the screen? They look a bit like pressure points.
Oh, and ignore the grumpy members who just tell you to search instead of giving a constructive answer. It makes them feel superior. We were all new here once.

Thanks for the reply Steve. I'm pretty sure I had nothing in my pocket. My S3 is my life, almost like a trophy wife . I have been as careful as humanly possible. These completely disappear on wiping with a soft cloth. Totally invisible i.e. When seen from a perpendicular view, they appear pitch black and hence merge with the pitch black screen when the screen is cleaned. However, as my fingerprints start appearing on the screen, these become visible too.
Attaching another close up if it helps. The blotch is in the centre just next to the reflection of the tube. Another smaller and fader one seen at 5 o clock to its big brother. This is not the same issue that others have of dark pixels appearing when viewed in complete darkness. These appear in normal light.
And yeah, they appear to be superficial, but beneath the glass, not really over it.
I agree we were all new once, no issue with asking questions. But please think about posting in the right way.
Make clear in the op that you have searched and this isn't a duplicate issue eh?
There are plenty here who will be glad to help. Welcome to xda
Looking deeper as you've asked I will reopen this.
I've a feeling you may need to return the phone. I'm thinking the seal between the glass and the digitiser/lcd may be dodgy.
Regards
Chris
Not a pressure mark right?

Thanks Chris for reopening this thread. XDA sure rocks!
i wanted to make sure that these are not scratch marks/pressure marks before going to the dealer. If I know for sure what I'm talking about, I can go all guns blazing and ask for a replacement. Don't want them telling me that they can't do anything as it is a user issue or something. So any other opinions/suggestions/explanations are more than welcome.
Thanks again.

if you feel those marks are inside the screen, then its definitely a manufacturing problem. Better go for replacement asap mate, they cant tell you it is a user problem you can simply ask them back " How can i go inside a gorilla glass? "

Lol. Will do that tomorrow. Some more advice needed regarding that. Before giving them the phone, how should I backup my data. My phone is still unrooted.
Another thing. Should I fight for a device replacement or would a screen replacement suffice. I've noticed my smartstay doesn't work too. I have tried it from multiple angles in different light conditions and with different faces.
