I am posting my query here as I am a new user and not able to post under dev section.
Have been hearing a lot about cf-root from my friends.Tried googling it had no luck.
I am using xwks9 stock rom. Can we use cf-root on this rom? Can somebody please help. Link to the tutorial would help a lot.
Many thanks in advance.

you must install the recovery

then

Here
Thanks Amit
But, I am more confused now...somebody has reported a problem on the second last page of that forum. The problem is on the same rom i am using. Should i flash it or get my rom changed then flash it? Would appreciate a lot if you can suggest some better rom.

cf-root works on any samsung stock roms unless it is gingerbread so don't worry it will work
I cannot see any services file for xwks9 there. Have been reading it and am afraid to do it now...i dont want to loose my beloved ace. What would be the real advantage of flashing it? I am sorry for bugging you with so many questions. Thanks for bearing with my limited android knowledge.
All I want is no app closes by itself when lots of apps running simultaneously. So that I can keep the page loading on explorer while playing some game.

well this can be done without cf-root also but it will lag
cf-root will enable you to have ext4 filesystem [download ext4manager and convert it]...+ busybox + root + init.d scripts + bootaminations
ext4 will make system faster [not like win xp to win 7 though ]
init.d scripts will let you to have some ram scripts which may help you..
bootanimation - you will love them at start of your phone instead of watching same samsung **** and you can choose from various of them
and one more thing you will need that services.jar file only to have support of bln which you don't want
I have now downloaded cwm for gingerbread and cf-root v3.7 b82. Going to download now ext4 manager.
One more advise i need here is...i hv my phone already rooted with update.zip method. Can i flash cwm and cf-root directly. After that i m gonna flash ext4 manager.
Any advise or anything that i need to take care of while doing this.
Also what is this bln?

I Just did all of this yesterday !
I flashed WKS9 2.3.5 after that I flashed CWM 4 from stock recovery
after it I flashed CF-Root b82 and I used CWM Manager to install ext4 converter apk
Did all of this cannot notice any change though...was this expected after 2 hrs of tension...plz help...i am seeing something has eaten my 16 mb internal memory.
is this cf root?

It could be or the ext4 file system ...
The truth is that after doing all of these things you won't going to notice anything in performance and look. CF-root is a stock kernel which support scripts and ext4 file system, etc. and it's rooted already. And the CWM is only a recovery for the phone. U can use it for flashing custom roms for your phone. The ext4 file system as far as I know is good to make the phone more laggless it's better than rfs maybe it makes little bit faster too.
If you want to achive higher performance you need to flash a custom rom or different scripts like SlaidFastMod v2 which is a pack of scripts to increase performance, battery life, improve on the touch screen etc.
If you want to increase performance and want to stay stock install SlaidFastMod v2. Installing SlaidFastMod v2 is easy simply download from developer section and flash it trough CWM by install zip file from sd card.
OR ! Install a CyanogenMod 7 on your phone
Keep in mind that you formatted your phone to ext4 if you want to flash other stock rom you need to revert back to rfs first with ext4 Manager app!
Just install the .zip file from the stock recovery of any 2.3.x without anything before. You will get cwm, root and all the other wonderful stuff.
They are genius.

Do NOT delete superuser app I'm not sure you can do it either.
It is not from your earlier root, it comes with CF-root too because it
contains root so the Superuser app is installed with CF-Root And you need
it to grant root access to some apps.
The bootsound and the default boot animation is gone. If you dont like the animation delete the file in data/local/bootanimation.zip it will gives you back the
default boot animation without the boot sound. Or if you want custom bootanimation just simple put there with the same name bootanimation.zip
About the bootsound the default bootsound is stored in System/etc with the name of Poweron.ogg As I saw it is removed and I don't know how to get it back. I don't really need that it is a bit annoying .
You need a file explorer with root access to see these folders and files.
But don't do anything stupid !! These files are important for the ROM to run !
U can use ES File Explorer it's free and you can give it to root access in settings and mount system as writable
You won me dear ;-)
Good night...i will play with my new ace tomorrow morning.
Thanks all !

I wanted to install cm7.1 by grif_07 but had to clear some doubts before trying it coz my primary reason for trying a custom rom is to enable apps2sd. otherwise I am happy with the samsung stock rom.
1. is every feature in the stock rom working perfecly especially like camera and video recording?
2. is apps2sd included in this rom? (important)
3. will I loose swype keyboard? but I believe I can restore it from my titanium backup. correct me if I am wrong.
and also I wanted to know is there some easy way to enable apps2sd in stock rom? without using a pc coz I dont have my pc working now
1) If you're looking for stock abilities , stick to stock .
2) No , but can be downloaded

Install manager by Alfred Neumayer from market is the perfect solution for app2sd on stock rom.
Swype needs some library files if I'm not wrong.

You can try that. But if it doesn't work, download the beta. There was a huge update and I don't think you'll like to stick to the old stock version.
For a2sd functions for cm7 try s2e
Just register in the beta.swype.com site and the swype installer will be sent to your email account so you can download it with your phone, just install it and swype will be downloaded.

i recommend you to use the app like scoffyburito said
swype beta is working fine in cm7 grif (dont forget it's still beta and RC )
at last I figured out how to correctly use link2sd huh...
dont think I need a custom rom now. next step would be some kind of ram optimization script then it will b a perfect droid...
What i have currently:
1.) Stock ROM
2.) CF Root
3.) CF Root dtapp2sd.zip
4.) V6 Supercharger (Memory optimiser)
Everything working beautifully.
Anywhere to get RAM cleaner ?
Hi, umm,
I flashed my ace to cm 7.1 this morning. It runs quite smooth. Although there's 1 thing from the stock ROM i seriously miss - RAM cleaner. I just can't live without it and no application can replace it. I managed to overclock it successfully to 902 MHz (stable) . I'd say CM 7 is awesome, it just needs the Clean RAM option. And if it is somewhere out there, can please some1 tell me where can I find it.
EDIT: 902 MHz isnt stable, just rebooted
I just got this new galaxy tab and it's really cool, but it's very laggy and I ready have a custom rom on it I'm not sure which one it is tho...
can somebody tell me how I can speed it up
flash galaxytask 14 and use an alternative launcher if you want.

The best way for anyone to help you get to where you want to be is for us to know for sure where exactly you are
I agree your best bet is to switch to Task 14 and if that happens to be your custom ROM already there are more steps to help you get rid of the lag than just the ROM.
If you can't figure which custom ROM you're on, it would be best, IMHO, to start by going to the development section and Task 14 thread.
Hope this helps.

also, what else could i do to get rid of the lag?
settings, about
flash pershoot's kernel if you dont already have it and overclock to 1.2 or 1.4 Ghz
install another launcher
It says
galaxy task 14 slim
And kernel says 2.6.36.3 [email protected] #1
So how do I do all that stuff...can someone give me a quick step by step?
I just downloaded CPU master and set it to on demand but the maximum it goes is 1000.....and so far I haven't noticed Any speed improvements

Nope but it isn't laggy.
lol...ok.... how about just doing the kernel then...i have downloaded it but don't understand pershoot's lingo....
"To install kernel modules:
Use Winrar (windows) or tar with the z option and unpack lib-2636.4.tar.gz
Push any module you desire to /data/local/modules (this is created by the update.zip)
Then, insmod it (you can do this via adb, in a gscript, or on the device in terminal."
I have unzipped it and have the lib folder and more stuff inside...how where do I put it? I can't find the data/local/modules...only data folder and then only .com stuff is in there
I tried running update.zip...from recovery mode but installation was aborted because it coudln't find the file or directory....where can I get it? looks like this update.zip is supposed to create the needed folders
ok...now i have just created those folders and added themodules but I can't insmod them through the adb shell..I can't even see them in the folder I put them in...only the 2.6.36.4-cyanogenmod+ but that wont "insmod"

Try to mount system under Mount & Format before you flash the modules. Just an Idea, i've not used this Zip. I always apply the Modules manually by put the needed one into the lib/modules Folder and start them through my init.d script.
BTW: That's not an OP which is clear stated. Maybe some more Informations about How To???

however I'm using 900-1050-1100-1150-1200 mv for the cpu and I really doubled the standby time which is great and the device stay way cooler even when stressed

Hi people!
I've installed just now this mod on my RAZR running 982.124.17 en.BR stock based rom JB 4.1.2, and sent all the informations to the dev to develop a tool to install the mod on our phones!!
At first time it seems work fine but I want to wait 2 or 3 days left to test it in hard use.
If somebody want to try, the manual installation is very simply, just download and unpack the .zip put the script file in init.d set permissions and reboot! that's all!
Good mod!!
EDIT: OK i goes wrong the script dont work... the swap.IMG can not be mounted because the path is not a device block... waiting for the devs
EDIT 2 : the script works fine, but stock kernel not support swap. Tomorrow I'll try to flash a custom rom like CM and try it and I would to test with JBX kernel also. I'll post here the results ... stay tuned!!

you have got just 1 swap file because have installed just 1 script. if you see into the zip package u can see three folder in it one called cache one called system and another called data. inside in each folder there are a script that create a swap file in each partition you can set the size of the swap editing this files!
Thanks!! You a my man, it works!

Can I use Turbo boost and swap data partition with application Link2sd? Link2sd created folder in root/data/sdext2 and applications are mounting to SD card after reboot. I don't know if it will be working.
Thanks for your reply
